For all those in the comment section whining about the self imposed limiting, this engine is a mild daily driver. The owner will be thrilled with anything around 250 HP and 400 Ft Lbs of torque. And so would I. It's not going to the drags.

They got the torque they came for. That’s good enough. The components that are still oem in the block won’t be able to handle much more. It’s a cool old school Chevy, not a 2JZ.

I would love to see the potential HP/torque with a better lower end/rods/pistons and head/valve work. Full boost would be cool to see after all modifications, hammer it till it self destructs just to see the rating. ;o) By the way, I love seeing a strait 6 hopped up,,,,,,,v8's are boring after seeing this, thank's!

Especially when you figure in the fact that it's running on a throttle body injection system and it's self-learning. Great job guys. I love inline sixes...the torque potential from small financial input is excellent. I agree with snakeboy256...the Ford 300 was awesome. My Dad had a 1977 F100 with the carbureted 300 and three on the tree. It was a real stump puller and gave us fantastic gas mileage. The truck being a typical 70's Ford was a rust bucket and had all kinds of weird problems including cracked piston skirts but I often wondered what kind of torque monster it could be with the right massaging.

A buzzin half dozen. Those 292 I-6 engines were torque monsters. Long stroke, small bore. Worked on one out of a large (2 ton) truck that had steel inserts in the piston for the top ring groove, rotator valve spring retainers on the ex valves, & valve seat inserts on the ex valves. Built to take the punishment just couldn't handle much RPM. Truck drivers had a tough time switching from a V-8 to a I-6, they would try to rev the 6 up past the torque range & get frustrated. Just get it up to the mid part of the torque range then shift to the next gear & let the torque do the work. Enjoyed watching this build.

A long-forgotten gem of an engine. In the shop I worked during the 80's and 90's, we built 230 and 250 circle track engines as well as truck engines. Upgrading the flywheel bolts to 1/2 20's is a good idea on these engines. They also need to put a large washer with a flat head screw to hold the cam gear on. With this level of cylinder pressure, they better find another crank and bearings. After 50,000 miles the bearings will be gone. If they didn't put hard seats in the exhaust by the time the bearings are done the worn exhaust seats will take up all the travel in the lifters. Been there done that. I ran a .060 over 250 with 11:1 compression and 3.73 gears 60 interstate miles to work every day in a 1970 pickup.

Technology has finally caught up, as in semi- affordable, and made Turbos a legit option. We've always known they're the great equalizer. The means to control them was just so out of reach.

I built this exact layout for a good friend of mine. He has a '52 chevy business coupe with a 292. I built the engine, forged everything, blueprinted and balanced crank, t66, holley terminator with their t body. I also fabricated a badass intake and exhaust manifold. I built the hot side unequal length with the hope of not sounding like something Japanese. It actually worked, with the cam hes running, 6 into 1, super 50 muffler with a cherry bomb as a resonator it's pretty throaty. She made 363 wheel on pump gas through a tremec tko with 3.73 final drive. But, torque, shes at 491. It hauls the mail for a big ol girl. I'd really like to see what we can do with some C16 in the lines. For the life of me I cant remember what head we used. I built it 3 years and about 200 shots to the head from fellow light heavyweights later.
