    I expect that once the Berlin Gigafactory starts making Model 3s that the build quality will improve. The Shanghai Model 3s arriving in the UK, Australia and New Zealand are better built than the Freemont made ones.

      I hadn't heard they would be making the model 3 in Berlin; I thought only model Y. It will be interesting to see if the price will be affected for us Europeans when they are produced there also. Let's hope they improve build quality also. Makes you wonder why Elon didn't bring over some Germans to USA to sort this in the first place!
      Have always bought hatchbacks as more practical than a sedan; so the model Y would be my choice.

      If the construction design is a failure then sadly there is not much room for improvement. E.g. sharp edges at the trunk door - Min. 1:12 - There is simply no material to cover the metal by design.

    If the battery is warm (preconditioning before leaving in the morning helps a LOT) and you precondition to the charger you can charge quite a bit faster. Same spec but with the 60kW battery I’ve done 11-60% in 14 minutes, the charge curve is similar from 20% so should be under 20 if going 20-80%.

    The model 3 has one of the best interior of any car, IMHO. No gear levers getting in the way, charging for 2 phones and plenty of storage so you car doesn't have to look like a dustbin. Look at the other EV cars (ID 4, Polestar, etc.) for how bad the interior layout is, no storage, cup holders in wrong position, etc, etc... I'm loving mine and its 10 times cheaper to run than those dirty diesels and petrol cars that people keep buying...

    Recently test drove the Model 3.Thomas does an excellent job summarizing the car feel and imperfections. As an older driver, I might also add an extra concern - the fonts on the screen are small and difficult to read. I've seen Tesla forums totally devoted to this problem. Nevertheless, I wish Thomas had reviewed the voice command system more thoroughly. It seemed to work well on the car I drove. I think voice is the best way to operate to minimize driver distraction.

      @@everusualsuspect yes the 2021 has double glazing. There is also an aftermarket door seal for about $30 which apparently helps.

    • @everusualsuspect
      @everusualsuspect 3 роки тому

      @@philliptemple4534 Yeah, I think we have to be careful with judgements. It's more a case of the EV is spooky quiet at slow speed but then you wonder why it is so noisy at higher speeds. I bet Tesla competitors will improve on the noise level but at the same time the weight will go up and efficiency go down.

    • @philliptemple4534
      @philliptemple4534 3 роки тому

      @@everusualsuspect I think there is some exaggeration about wind noise as it doesn't seem to come up as an issue with actual owners online. Dan seems to be the exception rather than the rule. He could have some issue with his particular model. I am going to hold off buying the extra seal until I get mine next month and will see how it goes. The seal also helps keep dirt and mud out but I live in a sunny country so that's not such a problem for me.

    The Germans are rightly proud of their automotive heritage. The EV era has arrived and their industry will adapt. I notice that the big 3 are trying to stake out the high ground but EV's are sensible in nature and they may encounter resistance in making very expensive models like the Taycan and EQS. Tesla is clearly showing the way in moderately priced EV's.

  • @MrAdopado

    I am surprised that anyone would routinely drive their Model 3 in "chill" mode. You can drive in just as smooth and relaxed a fashion in "standard" mode ... all controlled by the right foot of course! If you drive at the same speed and use the same level of acceleration their is no advantage in terms of efficiency (range) being in chill mode. Also, if you have a situation where you really do want/need to use maximum acceleration you can do it instantly.

    The reason for this cheap plastic Audi wannabe to be sold this much depends on a few criteria. Firstly, they know how to do marketing specifically targeting an audience who did not care much about the mechanical aspects of their cars. To the Prius user this is an incredible upgrade for instance. This brings me to my next point, a Prius owner also didn't care much about how to drive their car, they saw it as tools - and particularly - tools with marketability. Their cars would tell the world that they cared about the environment, little did they know their cars caused more Co2 emissions than the standard cars due to the immense pollution those old batteries had caused during production alone. And that their cars would not consume less than a good car, say a BMW 3 series or a Passat when driven economically at regular speeds at regular distances was a complete mystery to them. With a Tesla they've got the social upper hand of eco-carying mentality, which I 100% support, but the target consumer did also not think of their cars as actual car enthusiasts do: as long term friends. An enthusiast using their thoughtfully purchased, well made, durable car for 10-15 years; whilst driving economically, using long endurance tyres like Michelins instead of Nexens, etc. and more all of which added up to reduce waste very well in the long term. But no, the USA was full of people with 600bhp, 6+ litre pickup trucks exempt from gas guzzler taxes whereas the 3 cylinder Prius was the only marketed eco car as a competitor to this. Of course the Tesla sold well! Because essentially they had no competition.
    This car is sold a lot as a conclusion because it is easy to sell. It just ticks so many boxes of a non-enthusiast. And to be fair, they have been making good progress on the build quality that if it is a Peugeot level of noise insulation and comfort was the target, why not give the supercar speeding EV a go, right?

    Hey Autogefühl! I like your reviews, but it has to be stated, the Model 3 is one of the best selling BEV worldwide, but NOT the best selling BEV in Europe or Germany. Best selling BEV last year in Europe: Renault Zoe. Also there is one simple fact, why the Model 3 still remains its top selling position as a BEV, there is simply no competition in the midsized BEV sedan market exept for the Polestar 2. I'm really exited for the BMW i4 cutting into the Model 3 LR and Perf. customer base and get some competition going on. Also the price starts at 44,000€ (DE) not 40,000€ in Europe before incentives.

In fact, it seems like the t3 doesn't even make it into the TOP 20 top selling models in the EU. And I seriously doubt it's any different in large markets like China, Japan, etc.
      So, where do these "facts" come from? Sounds like more propaganda from tesla affiliated channels, with no basis in reality.
