Christine Official Trailer 1 (2016) - Rebecca Hall Movie
Rebecca Hall stars in director Antonio Campos' third feature film, CHRISTINE, the story of a woman who finds herself caught in the crosshairs of a spiraling personal life and career crisis. Christine, always the smartest person in the room at her local Sarasota, Florida news station, feels like she is destined for bigger things and is relentless in her pursuit of an on-air position in a larger market. As an aspiring newswoman with an eye for nuance and an interest in social justice, she finds herself constantly butting heads with her boss (Tracy Letts), who pushes for juicier stories that will drive up ratings. Plagued by self-doubt and a tumultuous home life, Christine’s diminishing hope begins to rise when an on-air co-worker (Michael C. Hall) initiates a friendship which ultimately becomes yet another unrequited love. Disillusioned as her world continues to close in on her, Christine takes a dark and surprising turn.

the last 20 minutes of this film was the most intense emotional experience I've ever had while watching a film. I feel empathy towards everyone who struggle with mental health issues, this is a prime example of what depression looks like.

I've been battling it for over a decade now. It changes you. The only thing worse than feeling sad is feeling nothing at all. This condition has robbed me of life.
This film does a great job of what it means to be drawn into the darkness that is depression.
Keep going, please. Lots of us are in a constant battle. Some people won't ever understand what depression is like. You can overcome this. Please keep going. 🙏💙
Its remarkable just how similar this Christine was to me. I suffered clinical depression for over twenty years and I'm only 24 years old. I was always withdrawn from social gatherings and always had a hard time socializing with people. All throughout high school I suffered from suicidal thoughts and self-harm. There will be times at work where I willing sacrifice my break so I can complete the jobs assigned to me to make the bosses happy simply because it feels good to know someone thinks I have value and I can be useful to them. This movie really opened my eyes to the internal struggles I have because just about everything Christine struggled with, I struggled with too!!!

Its like an early mid life crisis so many of us with depression face. Unfortunately because of our age its ignored.
I hope they show all the charity work and time she spent with disabled kids. She would make puppets and take them to hospitals, etc to loft their spirits. The story is nuanced and I am going to watch tonight. It’s not just about being in love with a coworker. She had ovarian cancer as well. Told all her coworkers she was suicidal and had purchased a gun and no one took her seriously.
Alexandra what did you think of it, I'm sincerely interested. I've seen tons of movies, some very sad (Manchester by the Sea comes to mind) and some horribly gross (not my thing specifically - more by accident or on a dare) but there was just something about this film. Outside maybe war or some disaster movies, I truly think this was possibly the most profoundly sad film about an individual I've ever seen. By a wide margin. To be honest, I'm having a hard time shaking it.
You are a girl though? Why "she"?
Charity work doesn't bleed....so,...the movie will not show that....

I gotta say. This trailer was really really well done.
So is the movie. Hall is great.
mabusestestament it was made by a friend of hers coincidentally.
Yes and the movie is pretty well done. Too many movies overly simplify characters as likable and unlikable and the trailer worried me that it would do the same to Christine's boss. It also seemed like the movie might falsely portray coworkers as pushing her to suicide through overworking her, harassment, or sexist promotional practices. Instead, everything seemed realistic and understandable.
I thought the same the same thing! the editing is brilliant!
fake news
(SPOILER)
The part when she says she always wanted to have a baby, and a husband and a family its just heart breaking💔
Why? Millions of women are in the same boat. There has been a huge shortage of good men since at least the 70's. So, if you have issues, children won't cure you.
It'll just make things worse realizing lots of women are still suidical AFTER kids and a husband.
no good man?
Winds of March Journey/Perry tribute band Doesn't matter. Still upsetting.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Way to completely miss the point. Also the shortage of good men you claim exists is horseshit. Plenty of good men out there losing custody of their kids and paying alimony. A lot of good men trying to get dates just to realize being themselves doesn't usually work. If I act obnoxious out in public its easy for me to find a woman. If I actually show my real, laid back self, women just put me in the friend zone. Of course only after they lead me on and allow me to buy them dinner. Of course not all women are that cruel but I genuinely can't find any decent women. Every woman I've dated has said things to me that would lead to physical violence if she was a guy. Don't be picky and you can find a good guy. Most of us guys have dealt with some seriously psycho women and will gladly take anyone that isn't demanding and doesn't complain about every single bit of adversity life throws at them. Sadly those are the 2 most common traits in women from my experience.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 nay, women just became too choosy and busy with their careers.
"Why won't anyone just listen to me" it connects with me in a deeper level.
Watched this movie a few days ago and I was stunned by how powerful this movie was. Rebecca Hall did a phenomenal job playing Christine giving us glimpses into what she was going through during her last days alive. Not afraid to admit I cried towards the end when seeing all the pain Christine went through
Have seen tons of movies, gruesome horror movies (not a huge fan, but I have) sad movies...some very. I seriously can't exactly put my finger on it - but saw Christine recently and just can't quite seem to shake this film off. Just the feeling of dread building for this poor woman. In not one area of her life could she catch a break. Not one. So felt for her.
This is one of the greatest movies about loneliness I've ever seen. She is unforgettable in the part. 😰
It really is a breathtaking movie.
Man, she was a very sensitive and professional woman. I read she was still a virgin because she just never found the right man for her. She had a crush on a coworker and found out he already had a serious relationship with her friend Andrea. She was told she only had like 2 years to be a mom due to some problems with her ovaries. She saw the drastic changes in the news network she was working for, and she hated them. I mean, from her perspective, everything was falling apart.
This is an absolutely beautiful film. It covers the horrible pain of loneliness and how someone can be screaming for help in a crowded room, so to speak, and still be completely ignored until they're pushed to their breaking point.
Knowing the true story makes this movie so heart breaking. You just wish you could give her a hug
According to Wikipedia about the film, “At the time of the film's release, Chubbuck's parents and older brother Tim had died, leaving her other brother Greg as the only remaining member of her immediate family. Greg Chubbuck criticized the releases of both this film and the documentary Kate Plays Christine; although he admitted to having seen neither film, he expressed concern that viewers would only pay attention to the sensational aspect of the story and ignore Christine's many positive qualities.”
I just saw it. Touching. Rebecca does a fantastic job. Makes you understand more why Christine went the route she did.
does it though. it's a movie.
@@grawakendream8980 ... about her. So yes it obviously does
because she blamed her problems on everyone else?
Christine deserved better. It's a shame what she went through.
I used to work in news, and I can attest that it will turn you cynical. It becomes a way to survive. Drove me to drink heavily. The mainstream news industry model will crush you if you're an empath. I'm so glad I got out of it. If you're not thick-skinned or just soulless, the news biz will break you. If reporting honest news is you're passion, best to go independent.

Cant believe she wasnt even NOMINATED for her performance here. Emma Stone's performance in La La Land has nothing on this.
leonthesleepy The Oscars are all about campaigning by powerful studios. Little films like this can’t really compete.
Yeah. Agree. If i were going to do a Christine, I'd do so to the tune of "La La Land," myself. Tedious and fakey. Like Chinese water torture.
Its truly sad she wasnt nominated - What can indie actors do if smaller roles cannot be recognized?? Mainstream

@@iliketohearmenmoaning Its true and I agree. Art is subjective but this was a tremendouse performance that deserved to be recognized.
It's about time they made a movie about her life!!. I've been researching her story since college (2008). She had a sad but interesting life. RIP 💞
This happened at channel 40 in the 70s in Sarasota, my hometown. I was a kid at the time but I remember it and so did everybody else. The family spent a lot of money trying to treat that girl but obviously didn't work. I thought I read that there's another movie coming out besides this one on her, but perhaps not.
There is! The other film regarding Christine Chubbuck is called "Kate Plays Christine."
And it's a documentary, if I'm not mistaken
Jasmim Bettencourt Sort of. From the trailer it looks like a behind the scenes look at the filming of a (fake) documentary and the lead actress seems to start to lose it.
I WORKED THERE AND REMEMBER ... I THINK A MOVIE ABOUT HER IS VERY SAD.. ALL I CAN SAY IS WHY?
weather guy Steve Newman. A gentlemen you can find here on UA-cam worked there. You wish watching and reading this story that Christine would have just left that business and went to work as a study hall monitor at a High School somewhere for awhile or maybe look for a gig a country music radio station or something. She was sick and needed to step back big time.
It's terrible that her senseless suicide didn't accomplish anything in the news industry, seems it just helped their cause of wanting more sensationalism. Sad story.

This movie was a really good movie. Rebecca Hall gave an amazing performance. This didn't look, sound or feel anything like Rebecca Hall in her other movies. I'm not trying to say she's bad in other movies, she's good in other movies she's in, I'm just saying that she gave an amazing performance in this movie that is unlike any other character she plays in other movies, she performs the role of Christine Chubbuck, so well, that you kind of forget that the actress playing her is Rebecca Hall, and you actually think it's this woman named Christine Chubbuck, who is playing herself in this movie, that's how great Rebecca Hall is in this movie. Now, this movie, I was interested in this movie, because before I heard about it, I had seen some videos about Christine Chubbuck's death, and then when I heard about this movie, I was like, what they made a movie about this? So I wanted to see it, and I watched it, and man, this movie was truly realistic. It portrays depression and loneliness in SUCH a true, and realistic way that's not usually shown in most movies. And it's so sad to see what this person had to go through, and that a person would feel like this, and it felt like this person didn't deserve anything bad to happen to her, and to her state of depression and loneliness. There were times in the movie where the depression and loneliness felt so relatable, and just made me feel for this person even more because of that. So, I'm gonna give, "Christine", 7.8/10 stars. And I want to say that if anyone is dealing with any depression, loneliness or suicidal thoughts I'd like to take the time to talk any of you who wants to talk, and to also call the national suicide prevention lifeline, and the phone number for that lifeline is 1-800-273-8255. To those feeling lost, depressed, lonely, or suicidal, I want to say to never give up. Always have hope. Always have something to look forward to, even if it's something small, such as going out to buy a new video game. You were put on this Earth for a reason. Find your purpose, and most importantly talk to someone. Talking is crucial, especially when it comes to the topic of mental illness, or mental states of depression, loneliness, and suicidal thoughts.
One of the reasons why I quit my job since they didn't appreciate me, yes If my job doesn't make me happy, then why waste my life on such a job? now I have a different job, I make less, but I'm happy. that's what matters people, live your life the way that makes you happy, some homeless people are happier than millionaires.
And I'm glad I watched the movie before watching the trailer or even knowing the back story, the last 10 min was really intense and I wasn't expecting it. that's what made the movie really enjoyable for me.
The isolation, loneliness, rejections, depression , emotional pain and the choice to end it.all into one. Tragic

She will win Best Actress at the oscars.
I don't know I think this might be Amy Adams year.
At least a nomination for Hall
Adam Ruins Everything already made award shows irrelevant.
I have a feeling Emma Stone's got it in the bag after Venice.
Yes. I think you are right. She should win for Best Actress. But then according to Box Office Mojo "Christine" is only playing in one theatre in the entire United States! I saw the film at that one theatre in New York called the Film Forum. What is wrong with theatre owners? Don't they know a great performance and film when they see one? I don't get it. And yet trash that the big studios put out are booked in thousands of movie theaters nationwide. Somebody please tell me why.
I first heard about this back in like 2010. It was on Boulevard of Broken Dreams or something on E! I couldn't believe it had happened. I read everything I could find about her and it really saddened me that someone who seemed to have the career she loved, in a nice town was so depressed that she decided this was her only option. I think Rebecca DEFINITELY deserved an award for her performance and couldn't think of anyone else that would've embodied her struggles with mental health the way Rebecca did.
So...all the horrible news, lies, disgusting and unseen horrors of the news started with her because she was preasured into doing it. I wanna see it.
Really? This really happened long ago in real life?
Yes, it really happened. But it happened back in the '70s, about two decades before the internet, and all the footage was either destroyed or saved in a police evidence vault. So unless you were around back then and happened to be watching tv when she did it, you'll never see the actual footage of the suicide.
She was kinda bitter and self deprecating and it only feeds on her depression. And apparently situation at her work and relationship didn't help either.
+culversketch actually the footage 100% Still exists. there are 3 for sure copies. The studio original (she asked that her show that day be taped, it normally wasn't. it was live with no delay, people saw it happen on tv) the 2nd tape is a copy created for law enforcement who later returned it to the studio. Early 80's the station changed hands and the two tapes were turned over to her family. But.... Not before the original station owner made a copy for himself. His wife got in some trouble while trying to shop the video around. The family wants this to NEVER be made public and brought an injunction. Legally the firmer owner can keep his copy but he can never make it public. It's a story that was buried by her family and although you could find seme detailed references to it you never really got a solid story. Her brother just this year repeated that the tapes would never be released. I don't want to see the actual suicide. I'm more curious about the odd things that happened before. she had a bag with her, usually had puppets in it, she used them on her show, Had a gun this time . She asked that this show be taped, it usually wasnt. She requested to report on a news story she normally wouldn't cover. when the feed jammed on that story is when she did it. I just dont get why on live tv? revenge? notoriety? Both? Anyway, the tapes exist.
for revenge. to let people know :you wanted this so bafly, you got it...permanently."

been looking for the real footage but I can't find it anywhere 😑 if only
I saw this at Sundance, and it was really hard to watch.
hard in what way?
saw this at TIFF. I feel you. Depressing and grim all throughout but I was still rooting for her.
Dope!!! My kind of of film, an actor's film. I love films that cause the viewer to 'feel'. This looks amazing, Hall is superb. Did you catch any other films while at TIFF???
Also, are you a filmmaker, writer, actor?
This movie seems to suggest that she didn't have a breakdown, that instead she was always crazy.
I disagree. I find that its questions are more fundamental, like what does it mean to be "crazy" or to have a "breakdown" in a world that's so sick to begin with?
Where's the car? I guess I'm relieved they're not remaking Christine but how can you have another film with the same name..? where's the lawsuit?
I just saw a trailer on TV for Stephen King's _Pet Cemetery._ Turns out it *_IS_* for a remake. I never saw the first one but, going forward, should I mention the title I will know to make a distinction between the classic and the reboot/remake. Meanwhile, "Winds of March Journey/Perry tribute band" doesn't think two movies with the same name _might_ be a little confusing for some people...
been waiting for this, story is great! love Michael c hall!
I've always loved Christine Chubbuck. I identify with her and her self-loathing, depression, and problems with relationships. She was such a badass.
....no, I don’t think we need to describe someone who selfishly took their own life on live television to scar hundreds as ‘badass’. Suicide needs to be demonized again.
@@notrr1469 To each their own. She gave the media what they wanted and, in return, got to end her suffering while establishing a legacy for herself. I don't see anyone making biopics on our dreary lives.
One of my favorite movies of the year!
