I had the pleasure to meet Fritz and Brian back in the late 80's early 90's when the band I was doing sound for all week at the tavern opened for Helix when they played there. Fritz was very funny and had us all in stitches. Brian later came to our room and was giving us vocal tips on how to keep from losing your voice and how he had taken lessons from an opera singer that really helped him out. Both of them were awesome guys.
I was the only kid in my Southern Connecticut high school that listened to Helix. I kept telling everyone, these guys are amazing. They really should've been a lot more popular.
When I was in high-school in the 80s the lead singer would come into the pool hall and play pool with us, he was really cool and down to earth good shot too I agree with you.
Still hard to believe you're gone Fritzy it was never a dull moment when you were in the room always making people smile and cracking jokes. I still remember working with you on a job and I asked you who the biggest rockstar was that you got to tour with and without skipping a beat you answered "myself" hahaha greatest answer ever I'll miss you buddy and I am happy that I was able to call you a friend R.I.P Legend
Myself Being Canadian and a Drummer from Back in the 80's So Sad to hear about Greg's Passing/Peace and love to his Family and Friends Thank you Sir for the great Music and Memories
RIP Fritz. Saw Helix with Whitesnake and Quiet Riot. Great show. Helix was on fire, Whitesnake had Sykes, got my first autograph from Helix Bass player, caught a pick from Carlos Cavazo. Great night for a 14 year old kid.
Deep cuts the knife at the news of Fritz's passing. Gone too soon. My condolences and respect to all you lovely Helix fans, as we've just lost a hero and a true star. I met the band as a kid one summer at a "Van- in" outside Hamilton, ON. while they set up for their nightly performance of Raunch and Roll, it was an unforgettable moment for me, and a small glimpse into the rock and roll life style, one that was actually a lot of work, a lot of effort and a lot of fun! I will always remember those times fondly. Hail Helix!
My first concert..Helix an KickAxe....never looked back..Hooked on Rock n Roll i grew up listening to and meeting my idols...met Fritz a few times and he was always awesome! Gonna miss ya ...yer gonna be the drummer in my Halloween display"Rock n Roll Heaven" this year buddy! 63 Sterling st London Ont...and we will be crankin Helix for all to hear!🍻
Greetings from Hespeler, Cambridge, Saw them play at the C.O.E @ the Kitchener Aud many many years ago.. great show..as a teenager , I heard Fritzs" name alot. He really is a hometown Hero.
One of my favorite bands, and one of my favorite drummers. I'm one too, all my life, and I know this is a genuine timekeeper. There's no better place on earth than behind your kit. 10 people, or 10,000, doesn't matter. This is where you belong. R.I.P. Fritz, count it off for me,.....1,2,3,4......
His smile says it all, Fritz's life living his best life behind the drums. Was the most genuine man always made every fan a part of his life 🤘R.I.P Bud 🥁
RIP Greg FRITZ Hinz saw you in tiny clubs and huge stadiums, Killer drummer his power with traditional grip was INSANE. never over played but he had killer chops ..met him a few times such a nice guy Condolences to the whole Helix family
One of my bands opened for Helix a long time ago. Partied with this great guy and great drummer. Seemed to be a guy who enjoyed his life and lived large. RIP. ☮️🇨🇦
I"m pretty sure it was Fritz that gave me my nickname many, many years ago when I worked for you guys. He was always so much fun to be around-warm and generous and positive. Rest In Power
There is this sound called 80s Canadian Rock. Helix was a big part of that. No band ever sounded like them especially Helix. The vocals were original and so were the tunes. RIP Fritz thanks for the memories.
I had the pleasure of working with Fritz in the early days of Starchild as a FOH mix person. A lot of hard work in the bars, that's for sure! He was dedicated to his craft and was always practising. When I showed some interest in drums, he graciously taught me a few basics and let me practice on his kit in the morning before the bars opened. A generous man. Turns out I'm not really cut out for the stage but I'm still mixing sound 35 years later. Time flies. I'm sad to hear of his passing.
Get real Keith, that was more like 45 years ago. 1990 was almost 35 years ago. But I do agree that Fritz was a warm and generous man. I'm sad to hear he's gone.
Aw man. I was in LA ( one of many, many times...) in '84...just getting ready to get on a plane that week to Tokyo...with Steffanie Borges.... Who had enlisted Myself, and JK Northrup, my old buddy from Redding.... for her band to go over there and perform for a couple weeks; but while we were just hangin' in LA....she got tickets to the 'Roxy.... ( pretty sure that's where it was....) and we Saw Helix. They were so cool! I'm was 24 at the time. Heady Days. God Speed, Greg. Only time i ever saw your Band, but....I'm sure you lived an Amazing Life. I'm 63 now....and taking a 'break'...from Drumming. Gonna have to see if i return to it. Life sure Changes. Rest Well......
Helix was the very 1st heavy metal band I saw when they were on their Sleepin in the Doghouse Tour back in the early 1990's. They signed my copy of Wild in the Streets glow in the dark edition, my poster which I had laminated. They were really nice guys to talk to and I still have this stuff today.
Sleeping in the dog house I never heard the Its a Business Doing Pleasure tour that I was on called Sleeping in the dog house lol that was a good track off that record though.
The T-shirt that I bought says Sleeping in the dog house tour, and the poster they signed was the cover for their 'Its a Business Doing Pleasure" album.@@Dan-sd6gb
My friend used to take drum lessons from Fritz back in the 90's when we were teens.. He had a lesson with him one day in my parents basement because his kit was there. We used to jam down there some times. I thought it was cool having the drummer of Helix over at our house for an hour.
I just heard about his death, very sad, but I am so lucky to have seen him at his prime, in 1983 & 84, I hope I’m right, it was for the “Walking on the razors edge” and the “Long Way to Heaven” tours at Hamilton Place. They had “Kick Axe” on one tour and “ Headpins” on the other, I still have my ticket stubs after all these years. I was lucky to have seen Brian “Too Loud” McLeod with the “Headpins” on that tour too. Those were some of the greatest musical concerts of my life. All the bands were at their peeks. “Fritz” was always so original, he played his left/snare hand like a jazz drummer, or like Charlie Watts did in the “Rolling Stones”, very original for a hard rock band . R.I.P. “Fritz”, you were awesome !
dearest friendZ: I met and partied with you i the 80's and in the 2000's when Brian gracefully invited me to the sadly now defunct Planet Helix. As a drummer, you were always the driving force behind that band and your energy was felt hard and heavy at that party, good man. While The Devil hosted it, you were the life of the party and you took me in to your bosom and rocked me, and my wife with your kindness, insightful wisdom and ultra cool "Helix Bucks". Keep pounding my friend Dutch Metal Maniac and I personally will always remember you as a part of the soundtrack to my life. Yea!
i saw Helix just one time , beginning of 90's in Montreal , also seen him 3 or 4 times at the Mustache club, Montreal with the band Starchild, let me tell you, probably Fritz was the best Canadian drummer i seen in my life, he was probably as good as Neil Peart but with only 1 bass drum, and much better than J,Mercer....i offer my condolences to all the family and relatives ....i never seen or heard another drum solo of Fritz in any audio bootleg or video except this little excerpt at the end of this Remembering video....hope that if you have others please upload these in UA-cam....as i say , in shows i have never drum solo except Buffalo '82 ( probably one minute long ) , maybe HELIX and B.Vollmer hated drum solos, Fritz was so talented .... will remember him absolutely ...
The original line up was the shit man... and I love all you guys after. Just saying. Saw Brent in a corner store after he left the band... and still such a humble guy. They all are! Hometown band proud! Cambridge baby. MataWhore days ruled lol
Oh, and for the record... Starchild... first band for Fritz... Bob Sprenger, lead guitar, was my first guitar teacher. Mr. Julke, you blow him out of the water lol. (You played in my house back in'82. Ha. Eruption. )

Wow, George did an Eagle on my arm. 1983.. it was done at his kitchen table. It was on a street near Schneiders. After it was done ,he took a photo for his binder, which had some great photos of what he had done for people. So sorry to hear about his passing, condolences.
@@719diesel still have all his photos and some video and that would have been on Kent street where he did your tattoo. I’m his grandson Kody, Kenny son.
Very sad. I saw Helix in the early 80’s, but I can’t remember who they were touring with. I’ve been to several concerts in the 80’s and I just can’t remember who was touring with who anymore. Of course I could alway Google it. Anyway, I got their autographs, so I’ll have to check if I’ve got Greg’s autograph. R.I.P. Greg.
I knew Helix for a couple of years and I would correspond with Daryl Gray. The first time that I met Fritz he was hanging out of the bus door and he was saying something to one of the guys. He had no idea that me and a friend were sitting there until we bust out laughing. R I.P Fritz! You will be missed.😢
