  • In this video I am taking you step-by-step through my process in creating a realistic oil painting of an egg.
When eating this egg for breakfast, i had the feeling it was staring at me. Just had to paint it!
❓If you have any questions or requests, I'd love to read about it in the comments. Please know that my materials are mentioned at the bottom of this text.
📷You can see the final painting on my instagram page.

🛒My paintings (and prints) are available for purchase in my online store pfeilarts.etsy.com
ℹ️If you’d like to know more about me, or get a custom order (know that I’m up for painting anything you can think of), you can always visit my website www.dennispfeil.com
🖼️The surface I’m painting on is a small MDF panel by the brand “Muspaneel”. They are very smooth, so I always add a layer of gesso on it with. This creates some extra “tooth” and a lovely texture! After that, I put a thin layer/wash of burnt sienna acrylic paint, just to get the white off.
👨‍🎨The paint I use is a special oil paint (Cobra, from Royal Talens) which you can thin by using water instead of spirits. Other than that, it's the same as regular oil paint.
🖌️ For brushes I use the cobra brand brushes, and for smaller sizes I use Mus brushes.
🎨 On the palette for this painting:
    - titanium white
    - cadmium yellow
    - yellow ochre
    - pyrrole red
    - ultramarine blue
    - burnt sienna

Quite interesting how nice everyday foods and items look in a painting! May I ask you something? Do you varnish these oil paintings? And if so, how long do you have to wait before you varnish it? I’ve heard that these paints dry a little faster than regular oils, but on the site of Artisan it says you have to wait 6-12 months before varnishing 🤔 And on the Cobra site they say that theoretically you can mix acrylic paint with these oil paint. Would acrylic varnish work for water mixable oil paints?

I like to use Gamvar! It’s an American brand and you can apply it once the paint is touch dry. If you don’t paint too thick that can be as soon as 2-3 weeks after painting. I made a video on varnishing too 😉
