I used to get up at 7 am every Saturday morning as a kid just so I wouldn't miss an episode. So glad to be able to watch them all over again. God, I miss the 80's.
Saturday morning was the day I got to make my own cereal and watch this without fail and I am glad this was my childhood, of course it took longer to discover the game it is based on
Woke up 30 minutes early so I could burn one before this came on…
Presto: powerful enough to bring an Aircraft Carrier into a magical castle from an alternate universe
Not sad to say, whenever i play a videogame rpg i always name my knight Dekion. This cartoon has always carried with me throughout my life. The producers and writers should be proud of their work, after all, don't we all seek some little bit of redemption?.
I like how this episode doesn't give them basic fears or cheapen out on them like other shows that try this premise.
- Sheila is afraid of being isolated and alone
- Hank is afraid of failure
- Eric is afraid of ridicule and having his feelings hurt
- Presto of powerlessness
- Bobby is afraid of the loss of agency that comes with being young
- And Diana is afraid of the loss of her physicality and faculties that comes with age.
Those are some real ass fears, and this show was pretty hardcore to acknowledge them with children around. It basically had everything shy of the fear of death.
This episode basically tells a story about redemption while conquering one`s "inner demons", which speaks to me on a personal level
A good message. Christ can truly redeem
@@Quincy_Morris Indeed he can
Just stop weirdo, It’s just a fkn cartoon-it’s not supposed have some deep meaningful plot-FFS you kids today are so fkd up trying make shit more dramatic and it only makes you look foolish as if your somehow more special your not, neither am I leave it alone weirdo I grew up on this and it was just a cartoon then and now and ALL of d and d cartoons have the same set up or are you to blind to see it? Obviously
The handsome, white dude with blue eyes Jesus, or the brown skinned 'every-man' Yeshua?
Which one y'all talking about?
Nah
It makes no sense
Loooooool
This story tells that you should get f*ed by people and still help them
No matter how many of these episodes I watch, the song at the end is always the best part.
RIP Adam Rick ( Presto's voice ) 😭😭😭🖤
Dekion: I was part of the Celestial knights a band of mystical warriors , Eric: Oh yeah what instrument did you play happened to be the best line ever
🤣
Poor Sheila never gets to pick a lock, Bobby or Hank always smashes it open. Guess that magic cloak doesn't have any pockets for picks.
It was a Masterlock, no picking required lmao
Eric is too funny. Man his one liners are great.
He is the comical one. I love him too.
Especially at the end.
Ironically, Gary Gygax hated the character Eric, he didn’t want Eric in the show at all, but Eric’s inclusion had something to do with insistence coming from parents’ groups because of all their paranoia surrounding the DND game’s bad press in terms of encouraging bad morals at best and satanism and black magic at worst. Parents’ groups were demanding the show at least include a spoiled character who had to be shown “the right way to behave” -kind of like a moral lesson in each episode. 🤯
@@arib8782 I never knew that, I just thought he was in it for humor purposes
@@eleanorhogan8643 Oh, well, you're definitely right that he contributed in that way, and that that was very much the show's intention. It seems to me if they hadn't been forced to have Eric as a character at all, another character would've stepped up as the main source of comic relief. My guess is that given they were being coerced to include a character for the reasons I mentioned, the folks writing the show decided he'd be the comic relief too, since that was probably the best combination -- otherwise, to have one character in there for "moral" reasons who isn't the comic relief, plus another character whose full-time job is comic relief instead, that might have been a bit too much. Seems like they turned lemons into lemonade even if Gygax still hated the main function of the Eric character through-and-through.
The telephone bit had me in stitches especially when Presto said "it's your mum"
Agreed, the comedy element is woven in skillfully
I love how Dekkion can tell a story by conducting fire.
Bobby is such a badass, he is only 8 years old and still he kicks ass.
"Humph, we'll never see him again " - Eric is hysterical
Eric knew the deal
And he was right!! lol

Yep he never showed up again, even when the kids finally got home in the unaired finale.
Another great episode! Of redemption and overcoming your personal fears. Seeing Hank’s face melting away is the most horrifying moment.
I love how Eric is usually right, but for all the wrong reasons
As a 90s kid I appreciate the art style and script writing of series like this. Love how this episode focuses on facing the fears that come from our own hearts.
An undead skeleton warrior and a tower of fears. I like this episode.
Did that Warbird wait for him all that time? That's loyalty...
That is the best cartoon of the world ever!
Thundercats is up there too...
So is transformers g1. all the 80s cartoons are great
😂😂😂😂🤣 Hell no !
Have you ever watched Avatar ?
@@PpAirO5 now, you gotcha me huahuahua
@@EsquerdaCariacica.. 😂
My parents still have some of these episodes on VHS. Along with other stuff like Thundercats, Thundar the barbarian, and the animated series of the incredible Hulk.
This is one of my personal favorite episodes of D&D. I can still remember having dreams of being one of the kids with a special magical weapon fighting off Venger and trading insults with Eric the Cavalier.
There was a time when I wished Hollywood would make a live-action version of this cartoon but considering Hollywood's reputation of getting its "collective heads up its ass" by consistently screwing up most of my all-time childhood favorite cartoons shows (Transformers, G.I.JOE, etc.) I'm better off just remembering what a good time I had watching this when I was a kid. GOOD TIMES!!
Thundermaxx so true!
Indeed.
Well they didn't make one of this cartoon but there was a live action D&D movie in 2000 and apparently one I never heard of in 2005.
@@thebman80
Ah you mean that movie the first D&D movie that was practically based upon the origonal RPG?
Awesome movie the "sequel" was also good in portraying the characters but weird since the capital must have suffered some magical diminishing as there weren't even any ruins left of that gigantic city in the first movie etc.
Though the live action G.I.JOE movie was better than the cheezy cartoon ever was = For once I didn't want Duke to die?!!???
And the characters were better written.
Brings back memories. Wonderful. Thank you for the upload.
I totally understand Eric now that I'm older he doesn't like shady people he just want to get the uck home. And I noticed the realm plays on Eric emotions by his looks by turning him in to a big beast, and a donkey face man. It's terrible that they won't open up the other season.
It's 2018 and I've JUST realised Eric is voiced by Ralph from 'Happy Days'
Hank and Bobby are voiced by Willie Aimes and his TV show brother from 8 is enough
AKA Donald Most! He still got it!!! Adam Rich is Bobby.
Hard to un-hear it, and I already found the Eric character obnoxious.
I watched these live, back in the day.
4:51 his sword reappears, now there's 2
This is my favourite episode out of them all and there were some great episodes..it was just compelling watch as achild, and still as timeless
Same
Facing our worst fears really is the best way we overcome them. A lesson which this episode and programme helped me learn way back in childhood. But nice to have a reminder.
Man I miss this ! Saturday in the 80s was nothing like it!! By the way Eric a trip😂
Maybe I'm imagining things here, you have a scene where Shelia is holding Dekion's sword after he tried to attack Bobby. However in another scene 4:51 if you look closely you will notice that the sword is back in his sheaf even though Shelia is still holding it. A little while later in scene 4:57 it's gone again. That is one hell of a magic trick that even PRESTO would be envious of.
How did Presto know something was behind Eric, when his glasses were taken by the specter, just moments before. And I quote, "Without these, I'd get lost in a closet."
The facing of worst fears was and still is a classic in comics, I still remember the same scene in the mini-series comics "X-Men and the Micronauts" when the Micronauts face their deepest ones at the hands of the sadistic Entity...
This is my favorite D&D episode. Thanks for uploading it!
Also in Harry Potter with the Boggart
I have the feeling that DM could've sent this group home at any moment, but he knew there were people in is world that they could help, and in doing so they would grow as people too. Just sayin
Antonius Britannia he wants them in this world to redeem Venger it’s in the final episode “Requiem”
One of the best Venger fights at the end - he's a frightening enemy. I thought when they decided on episodes for this cartoon that they might nod to modules that were popular at the time. I had the sense this episode was based on the module Ghost Tower of Inverness, but really, this episode is it its own animal. I enjoyed making those distinctions as I watched the series.
I agree, Vengor is a great villain, but I still like Skeletor better.
Venger is such a bad ass, cant get enough;) that and eriks bow which is insane! Reminds me of Cattie Brie's bow from The dark elf triologys
I love that show
Dekion is one of my favorite characters including all iterations of DnD over the last 50 years.
This is the only episode that disturbed me. And I love it. ;)
Not even Hank's skeleton scare, as any 80s kid was long inoculated with slasher movies, but 11:52.
The baby screams as the zombies approach? Nightmare fuel.
Ikr! Sheila getting withered and Hanks face melting was almost too much for me (as a kid). And the magic tower, so huge on the inside, full of people's fears, was just brilliant.
loved this as a kid all that fantasy stuff
My favorite episode
Casually summons USS Nimits
Pretty sure this episode gave me nightmares.
Loving this show now and back in my childhood years 🤩🇱🇺
One of my favorite episodes as a kid!
we need more rich character stories like this one where the characters would have histories where they would not be perfect they would have flaws and have to overcome those flaws.
Dungeon master kidnaps kids and forces them in to role play for his own gratification.....sinister
So it was him who brought them to that world? It was him who made the rollercoaster car go through a portal and put them into a dangerous dimension with giant scorpions, dragons, skeleton warriors, an evil scoreer, demons and goodness knows what else.
We never see him again, Eric was right.
😂
Sheila: It’s bigger inside than outside.
Me: so… it’s a TARDIS
My favourite character in this was venger from start to finish episodes.
My fav episode. Hall of Bones hooked me but this made me LOVE this show. If this show had had toys - never would have been cancelled. They f'd up there, BIG TIME. I'd love to know if kenner and mattel and hasbro , turned them down or if the license was even offered. A Venger figure!? Hank, Eric, Presto? Dekeon!? ..I had Strongheart and Warduke...wasn't good enough, although I LOVED my Strongheart figure lol
I had Strong heart and Warduke.
They made Tiamet and Uni figures.
@@lusyhognaston3777 Had they ONLY made the main cast...lol they had 3 seasons!!! Plenty of time!
@@DJRitty yes this is probably one of the best cartoons ever, dumb cartoons like tom and jerry got countless seasons and yet this one has wit, has excitement, has educational value ... it has everything and got cancelled. Nice requiem episode by the way, I always wondered what the relation between Dungeon Master and Venger was, took 30 years to bring it out! :) long live Dungeons and Dragons
@@jonjon-gi4mh it deserved ONE more episode...can't believe even back then they didn't go ahead with ONE more lol SMH... The voicework on this show is great, them music is the most beautiful for a sat morning cartoon...this show takes me back. 1983 baby... I still to this day think those kids deserved to go home lol They could do requiem STILL as an animated movie and then a sequel show on netflix. Have the kids go home to the 80's but a group of todays kids cross over for this gen. Throwing money into another stupid live action movie when they could just do this instead.
I would love to see how Dekkion summoned Venger. That would be super cool!
I always thought that Dekion should have been the one to destroy the ring.
It would have made his redemption more powerful.
Dungeonmaster is the true villain!
"We'll never see him again." lol
and they never did.
True, they didn't😂
Wonder how many Adventures Dungeon Master has gotten killed... over the years
Fucking scary when Diana got older >_< I was terrified when I was little lol
XD
I guess she must fear old age more than anything else. Or maybe she's afraid of being powerless.
buzz Dixon did a great job writing this story.
8:14 looks like Sheila was trapped in a Twilight Zone intro.
My favourite episode.
When Eric changed into a donkey head I fell out laughing.
That was hilarious 😂
Presto cute laughing at 10:19 XD
Their fears are:
Shelia:being alone
Eric:being different
Presto:losing his glasses
Hank:falling
Diana:getting old
Bobby:being young
That just leaves Uni, what is she most scared of?
0:04 that guy in the background seems out of place
must be an easter egg
My favourite episode
17:46 Best Part. Hank the Ranger being turned into a skeleton. GO VENGER!!!
I'm surprised this show got away with it.
@@nije1x They pressed their luck, but avoided the Whammy sort of speak.
At first I thought Venger was casting Disintegrate on him.
@@kilroy987 Venger was going to turn his arch enemies into skeleton warriors and it would be a living death. He said six MORE skeleton warriors referring to the children.
i love uni..this is pure nostalgic...
Uni, the Universe's only one-horned goat. Still love her though.
Bobby was an OG Brony.
Deckion turned hot, once he changed back lol
Venger: Still someone of the celestial Knight💕💕💕
*somewhat
*somewhat
There's no way Bobby would succumb to the magic of the tower. He doesn't fear anything, in that realm. Well, maybe he fears falling off of that rope bridge, but that's it! 😅
We need all of these characterss in action figure form.
as of 2023 we got Hank, Bobbie & Uni, Diana, Venger and Dungeon master.
Eric was right, they never saw him again.
Woudl have been great to see Dekion as a fully fledged Celestial Knight against Dungeon Master
8:50 NEVER split the party Hank...
Poor Eric. He just wants to know what the hell is going on.
Awesome episode. Best one yet. Good plot.
when I have found a way back to your world, I shall return..
"Its bigger inside than outside."
Me: The TARDIS?
I recognize Mirage's voice from the Transformers.
i like Dekion at the end he become a good guy again.
Interesting episode, a heck of a lot of stuff packed into just over 20 minutes! 11:25, this scene REALLY freaked me out when I was young!
Venger's mystic energy blasts always sounded far more powerful with the D&D battle theme led by the horn section!!!!
Speaking of venger's mystic energy blasts, why are they so weak lol, even a 1600s cannon could beat him
@@iSyriux 😂😂😂 that is hilarious! Made funnier because as I remember the cannon wiped out a moving Statue!
17:47 There's the face melting that ProJared mentioned.
This cartoon is a total acid trip !
Dekkion had an easier time defeating the children, than Venger ever did. Seems he was capable of defeating Venger, on his own, but the plot decided otherwise.
I swear presto's scream is copy and pasted in ever episode
Yeah, and Sheila's scream too
Blair Hylaun Boby has prestos scream whenever he's scared
My personal favorite episode of the series with the dragons graveyard being second
The skeleton warrior sounds like voice actor of Mirage the Transformer.
Correct, he is voiced by Frank Welker who also voiced Uni the Unicorn and other one shot charcthers.
@ted37846 I prefer Cullen as Venger than OP. I am a softie for villains.
@@donmccullen1973 yep villains are very important in storytelling. Because without villains then the stories won't be so exciting.
Did he also voice Nibbler in Futurama?
@@georgemercer402 Frank Welker voiced Nibbler.
Ooo Redemption… Isn’t that a rock group!
So that is what Presto looks like without his glasses.
Dekkion is a dead soldier, from the Joust arcade game. The Circle of Power is really a quarter!😂
So we have Bobby, Hank, etc... Was the Wizard's name in the real world "Presto"?!
I never even thought of that. Good point.
14-year-old Albert, better known as Presto
I thought Presto's real name was Preston.
I always wanted a figure of Venger and his horse, Venger is cool and so is his strange horse.
This was great!!!
this really freaked me out as a kid, doesn't really feel like a kids show this... especially how she aged really left an impression
Still Something Of The Celestial Knight In You Dekion!!!
Poor Eric, always getting his face messed up: first a bog-beast in Ep 6. and now this with the funny big ears and nose!
I remember this episode from the eighties.
I remember Diana turning old and Bobby a baby the most
It's like Jon Lovitz used to say, " Just decide not to fail, yeah... that's the ticket!"
10:06 This is one of the funniest Eric moments...Eric turning into Donkeyface....😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣
😂😂😂 OMG ... Presto laughing 😂😂😂
