      i have a slip test question. you use the roller across the board but dont the wheel size matter?. a smaller wheel will sink more in between the rollers so the power needed to overcome the hump is bigger but wheels like the bronco have big tires and only need to overcome a small hump due to its size so the wheel wont sink inbetween the rollers.

    • @shitloveaduck
      @shitloveaduck Рік тому +3

      Agreed!! The trucks are really hard on the rollers due to the weight of them though. May need a heavier set. Occasional tests on heavy vehicles like the Bronco aren’t too bad, but the trucks are different!! Haha. Love the Tremor you described!!

      Torsen, when one wheel completely loses traction, behaves like an open diff.

    • @Cloud30000
      @Cloud30000 Рік тому +7

      Torsten is a torque bias; it ONLY EVER acts like an open diff when the wheels have equal traction.
      Every other time, it requires extra energy to turn the rollers, which is how it transfers that extra energy to the wheel with grip (even when one wheel is in the air).
      Now, what you refer to is when that extra energy is still not enough to move the vehicle; this is true, as when a wheel in the air only takes 5 ft/lbs of torque, the other wheel will only get 15 ft/lbs in a 3:1 Torsten bias, which isn’t enough to move it.
      However, apply a little brake, and an open diff will be stuck with just the torque to overcome the brakes (maybe 30 ft/lbs), while the Torsten triples it (so 90 ft/lbs in that situation. Big difference.

    • @Cloud30000
      @Cloud30000 Рік тому

      Autocorrect changes Torsen to Torsten

    • @andrej5861
      @andrej5861 Рік тому

      @@Cloud30000 Torsen acts as open diff when it sees no torque on one wheel exactly because it multiplies tbr×0 to transfer to other wheel (in extreme situation). If you brake the wheel of course it will work (as you simulate friction) but then you do not really work only with Torsen. All this info is on manufacturers site and numerous videos . I have experienced this myself in an Audi quattro. And applying brake and throttle in many cars is interlocked nowdays..

      Ahh, the G80 aka the Gov-Bomb. Let's let one tire spin a few revolutions before crash locking the differential together, what could go wrong?! Ahh - everything, ALL the time. I would agree with that. Especially once front & rear lockers are engaged. Then the only difference could be tires. Physics kick in and the two have to be the same. I've taken our 4 door badlands in some real aggressive off road parks in the summer and in the snow and I'm flat out impressed how well the stability control works. In 2WD with the traction control off it will allow lots of wheel spin and a little angle before it does everything it can to straighten the vehicle out. Now, I like pitching vehicles sideways all winter long but I can apreciate how well this traction control system blends the lines between having fun and losing control.
    The GOAT modes were intrusive to my advanced driving style (15+ years of hardcore off roading and rock crawling) but plain ol 4WD low with the lockers on/off and with the staybar disconnect it did far more that I thought it would. I was very happy to have the windshield VIEW and feel match my 74' Bronco. Within minutes I was swinging the front end inches from trees an getting real comfertable with it and had to slow down as this was a 50K+ brand new vehicle and body damage matters... Top that performance with the flawless road manners and the POWER this 2.7/10speed puts down this is quite the ultimate dual role vehicle.

We went up an off camber and rough hill at .5mph which put the truck at 40 degrees tilt up and 10 degrees driver. It went up no problem. We then went down the other side which at one point had a front end drop which put it at 43 degrees down. It handled it perfectly. The one pedal drive is pretty amazing.

    Simulation of differential locking using brakes was used about 3 decades ago- for example Audis had it in 1990s (both fwd and awd) just to name one example. I have hard time understanding fascination with something that old. Now just sensors and programing are little more sofisticated

    If you want a real shock, you should try the Highlander with "Torque Vectoring". I does all of that absolutely automatically with no modes, switches or gimmicks at all. Completely seamless, with no ABS noises, absolutely satin smooth, you aren't even aware of what it's doing besides effortlessly moving no matter what. A real step up from my Tacoma, FJ, 4Runner and two Tundras in the traction department.

      You are not wrong if you are needing a true offroad machine they are the only way to go. But if you want a real unstoppable grocery getter, you can't beat a Highlander with torque vectoring :)

    I love TFL. Thanks for the great review. I have a BaseSquatch. Offroad if I have 2 wheels in the air w 4WD it wont move. ONLY when I activate the lockers I can move. The basic 4WD system is open diffs. I wish the basic 4WD system was more capable and had limited slip function. If you are going offroad you really need the lockers. The Jeep and Toyota is much more capable in their base 4WD systems. I wish Ford would have addressed this issue.
