It was a terrible extraction. Should have had a heavy full size truck with a winch that could have pulled you out slowly. This really could have been avoided. TFL should be ashamed of themselves.
Seriously, what happened to the ram recovery? Oh thats right they didnt want to scratch that and then ripped on the poor guys brand new bronco with a side by side. Poor guy probably didnt even know how many rocks he got pelted with. That was such a dick move, there was no call for anyone to do that to this guy. Funny how Andre said he was going slow in the ram because he didnt want to scratch it.
This is an unfortunate consequence of having Tommy unavailable and trying a recover with staff not appropriately trained and experienced in it. I’m sure Andre feels terrible about it and will use this as a lesson so it never happens again on his watch.
Okay, definitely some problems here: - in the first half, honestly I'd have been annoyed if someone told me how to drive as much as was going on (tho it got better, amusingly as it got harder) - a kinetic yank for someone suctioned into mud isn't great. This wasn't sitting for ages so it wasn't as bad, but it wasn't the best strategy - use a truck, you brought it for a reason. Use the power to pull it out slowly and in a measured fashion. Get tension before applying wheel speed, and ideally you'll not get the stuck guy spinning wheels unless that's needed, makes it much more violent once it is unstuck - a winch would have made that even easier. Given the difficulty, I think having one on hand is a good plan - I'd not put a metal D ring there if I didn't have to, a soft shackle is a lovely piece of kit to have. Props to the owner for taking it in stride though, I'd be kinda annoyed tbh. It didn't have to go that way. I pinstripe the crap out of my vehicle but that's because I have no choice if I want to keep driving up the mountain, and I generally want to do so. I don't enjoy scratching it up needlessly

Great attitude Lance. But TFL, I’m confused. You brought a Ram HD out there, why didn’t you use it? Start with a tow or winch from that heavy beast first, move to kinetic if that doesn’t work, a little bit more slack each time and stop once he’s out- you don’t need to drag the guy 10 ft out of it- once his rear wheels were out and on solid stop, his lockers will get him the rest of the way out. Jeez man you guys just went straight to the nuclear option. And as I’ve said before when you recovery from a side by side’s hitch- If a metal D ring breaks off someone could get killed. I sure hope that before you attached to that point you know what that attachment on the Polaris is rated for- kinetic ropes multiple the force substantially. You also may have weakened it for future. Attachment points are not always rated for hard recoveries. You know what would be a great TFL video- one where you guys team up with some popular UA-cam offroad recovery channel like Matt’s or something and get instruction on recovery. Lance is a cool cat!!!! That recovery was ridiculous guys! Hope you learned something from that. I agree with Fab Designs. Hang the door as a reminder and aesthetics.
The problem with soft shackles is that a lot of tow points on vehicle’s are not smooth enough to safely use a soft shackle. That being said there is no way a kinetic rope is stronger then a D ring Shackle. As long as the tow points themselves are strong enough it’s a non issue.
I guess in retrospect the recovery should have been done differently. Hopefully lessons were learned and the adage of slow as possible fast as necessary will be brought to recovery. I was a big fan of the kinetic rope until this video. A slow winch would have been better, if it would have done it. Of course, I have the advantage of being an armchair quarterback. Great video guys.
We all make mistakes or at least I do everyday. I've made worse mistakes than this. I, however, am not brave enough to post them on UA-cam for everyone to see and take all the harsh criticism and insults about my IQ. Andre is obviously a smart and very kind man.
As soon as they started hooking up the kinetic rope I thought to myself oh you’re not supposed to use a kinetic rope when the stuck vehicle is in deep mud… and then bam, he got pulled into a tree lol. They should have told Lance to turn his tires driver so when they pulled him out, his bronco would’ve gone away from that tree/brush. And the recovery vehicle definitely should’ve tried a small bump on the rope first before giving it heck. Use as little force as necessary. I do feel bad for Lance. That’s going to be a good chunk on money to get that fixed. He did roll with it quite well though. Hopefully TFL offers to help Lance with the bill for the damage since the damage occurred during a not so well planned/executed recovery.

@@lakertang Yeah, they wouldn't need to totally recreate trail mater, I just think it would make a cool video series, and I feel like that's something David would be all over. It's too bad they still didn't have the Disco 2 rescue rig from a few years back, that would be perfect for the ranch. Capable enough to get around, but heavy enough to be a good winch point for most vehicles.

Should really have a support vehicle with a winch to pull people out of the mud. The slow tension and the control breaking the suction is better then hitting hard with a kinetic rope and and having a greater risk of breaking a person vehicle or pulling them into a tree. We all know tfl can afford a some crapbox 4x4 that has a winch on it.
You guys need to do some trimming in that landscape. The obstacles look great but no one wants to pinstripe or scratch their vehicle. Its about the 4x4 not silly branches (that can all be removed in a day) damaging vehicles. Make some space, you guys also test big trucks in there.
You better do your homework on offroad recovery before someone gets hurt. Using a metal shackle on the sbs without proper recovery point could ended in some injuries. At least use some soft shackles next time. And never start from so much speed and slack on the rope its better to try the recovery 2-3 times with each time more speed more slack instead of what you did and risk in broken recovery point and shackle that goes to a windshield.
I do think for recovery you need to get a tractor that you can use to control slow and easy instead of the wild light weight thing giving hell and hoping to get it out
Another channel has pitted the Ford Bronco against the TRX in the snow against each other, I'm wondering with heavy snow, which of the two are better on the Tumbleweed course?
I think Cottonwood Creek is starting to overshadow Tommy's Demise in difficulty. Looks like lockers and Mud Terrains might be a necessity going forward. Great segment fellas!
Andre's smile just before he went into that mud pit, kind of makes me think he thought it would be dramatic. A little more lift and maybe more aggressive tires probably would have made it.
I have a 2 door outer banks with same front bumper. For a winch I got a rough country high mount winch. The only thing it blocked was my front camera. But my front grill is different than his. Let him know to check it out. Said and done $700 ish dollars.

I'd be pissed if Andre pulled my new ride into a tree when there was a clearing on the other side! The side by side could have sprayed rocks into the Bronco windows too, what happened to using the Ram?
I suggest you set aside a wall at the ranch and call it the “Tumbleweed Wall of Carnage” and start hanging trophies on it, and maybe get some extraction/recovery training for some of your staff in order to reduce unnecessary and avoidable damage to vehicles. With a little training, and recovery knowledge, this recovery could have Been damage free. The tree would have been missed. Or mostly missed.
Maybe all of tfl should take a recovery class. Go to a local ohv park where local off road groups train how to use recovery equipment and what to use in different scenarios. Practicing on participants vehicles is not the way to learn. This recovery was just reckless.

@@ReformedBrant By that I was insinuating the RAM should have been used. As it was the better tool for the task. I guess Andre just wanted to show off the RZR. It definitely did not work just fine but it did work, that is all I am saying.. lol.
After waiting 13 months for the vehicle, then having to wait another 6 weeks to get the new engine, I think I would have been really upset getting that door jacked up. I just take pride in my equipment.
A new engine. What happened?
Lance you are the man.
Thats why I love a 4x4 Hooptie! No worries of scratches! 88 Suzuki Samurai
Dang Lance! You are a trooper! I gasped out loud when you went across that tree. Damn! Don't worry about Tommy's Demise. You have an awesome rig. Now you have the Trail Rash of honor!
Lance seems like a really nice guy. It was crazy seeing the little Brock get stuck like that. That’s some serious mud, but it sure looked fun! I’m glad that Lance was taken care of by Ford.
What a nice guy. Even gave a Lil piece of bronco for them. That's awesome.
Wow thats an awesome Bronco! What a great sport he was! His voice reminds me of John Candy! One of the greats. I hope we hear from him again. Thanks for this video! Cool stuff
Lance is a cool cat!!!! That recovery was ridiculous guys! Hope you learned something from that. I agree with Fab Designs. Hang the door as a reminder and aesthetics.
Andre, could I recommend Matt’s Off-road Recovery for some lessons.
This course is awesome
Great guy hope his bronco is back to 100 soon!! Great video as always!
Lance is a champ...he'd make a delightful host too.
TFL: Replace that man's door!!!
Gents love your sites and course. One key suggestion. Please get soft shackles to attach your ropes verses D-rings - much safer
The problem with soft shackles is that a lot of tow points on vehicle’s are not smooth enough to safely use a soft shackle. That being said there is no way a kinetic rope is stronger then a D ring Shackle. As long as the tow points themselves are strong enough it’s a non issue.
@@larrysmith6797 you are right I totally agree but in this case a soft shackle would have ripped apart. So neither would be a good option…
Good to see a UA-camr finally with sense to run Duratracs on their rig, Andre. Doesn't get any better as I'm sure you well know. Good stuff.
That was badass, Lance!
Seems like a fair trade.. a massively scratched door and a broken mirror for a sticker.
Much respect for this guy. Used his vehicle for what it was built to do.
I love watching yalls videos because I've done more with less and honestly I laugh my ass off most of the time.
Lessons learned. Great video, anything with the Bronc is great honestly.
From one Lance to another, you're wearing our name well. Keep going, fam!
Most of the course is what hurting right now LOL Good job guys, thank you for the great video, Lance was amazing.
Having lost a ton of those shackles in mud. I use the soft shackles now, they float on mud and don't vanish if dropped in muck.
Andre is gonna notice a deduction 😮in his next pay check! Lmao 🤣
He deserve IT,he is way too excited in the latest videos, what îs wrong with him
Thank you lance
Great guy, great Bronco! That last obstacle is becoming a bit deep, lol. That Bronco is a little beast!
He was a good sport, but eh. I’d take the class Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery takes… I’m going to when I have some time. Matt seems awesome!
Lance is a great sport !
What an awesome Bronco owner!
Ouchhhh, that is rough.
Mistakes happen, and when they do always a good opportunity to pause and learn.
Congrats, that is a very cool bronco!
Bronco owner is in shock, who would think of getting that type of damage on nothing more than a mud course
This super suv can do anything
It's an off road vehicle , dings and scratches are battle scars and should be worn with pride. Also he said it's his toy vehicle so it's not like it needs to look nice for going out for a dinner .
@Mr.Plow I get what you're saying, but when someone else inflicts damage on your vehicle, sorry, that doesn't sit well with me, off-road vehicle or not.
@@cosminpopescu92 he could of tow him slowly and carefully out of the hole and with precision. He Scratch the entire passenger side on a marked up $20k above over msrp truck that nobody can afford. Are you sure he is a pro 4x4 er. Just for UA-cam testing, it was great to see the bronco has its limits In off-road mode.
@@cosminpopescu92 he was yanked out like a freight train didn't even realize what was going on and was pulled right into a tree lol. Sure its a bush but it will be a tree one day lol
The guy was a champ, good video looks great,
Note to self don't get TFL to pull me out of anything.
Right on i live about an hour from holister. I go to holister ohv park pretty offten. Its a great psrk
New idea for a build series: enlist David to build an actual recovery rig. I recently saw a mid-80s 1 ton 4x4 Chevy wrecker for 5k. That's what Trail Mater is based on. Something like that could be epic to have on the ranch.
I just love that you confidently know that we'll understand what 'trail mater' is because we're all offroad UA-cam nerds
Would be overkill for the ranch. Maybe just a winch on a truck. Slow and easy recovery to avoid liability issues.
@@mendonesiac eh, I figured some people will get it, and those curious could easily look it up and be rewarded by having a badass new channel follow.
@@lakertang Yeah, they wouldn't need to totally recreate trail mater, I just think it would make a cool video series, and I feel like that's something David would be all over. It's too bad they still didn't have the Disco 2 rescue rig from a few years back, that would be perfect for the ranch. Capable enough to get around, but heavy enough to be a good winch point for most vehicles.
to the owner... look at JCR's Vanguard bumper. That's what I put on mine with the Lux and you do have to buy the radar drop bracket, but it works perfectly!
I will check it out, thanks for the heads up!
Great video, guys! That was a brave attempt at a very muddy course!
Fix it and carry on 😎. Was a cool run through the ranch and considering that Bronco is bone stock but performed as well as if not better than highly modified rigs, I would have been happy with the results!
Moral of the story is don't do anything involving the tfl guys because they routinely damage viewers cars or there own
i haven't seen tfls bronco run this course
No Doubt. Most amateur outfit I've seen and they been doing it for like a decade or more at this point which is unreal.
Dude was yapping at him on how to trail the most basic shit but got quiet when it got to the hard part. Pulled out his vehicle while scratching it the whole way down and the best thing he could do is give him a sticker? Pathetic. He’s one of his patron supporters too. His team should do something to pay this guy back
Ouch! That’s why you always start with the min force possible and go up from there. BUT that’s also the chance you take off-roading. You’re not sending it hard enough if you don’t get a bit of damage. Lol. Rock on!
i allways love your videos----it would be great to getva test from you of bronco, rubicon and defender, same wheelbase, same tires-same driver-same course...first time va REARL vs. test
So did you guys buy it the rebel
It Happen’s Lance was awesome sport. That is some serious Mud it needs to get colder and stiffen up.
When muddin' ya gotta hit it n git it!!
17:54 and that might be the end of viewers being able to tackle the TFL off-road course
Why not just slowly and easily pulled it out with the Ram?
I feel bad for Lance. I think it's a safe bet that his $10/month TFL subscription is going away soon.
Andre couldn't hear the yelling to stop with the helmet on. Communication is key.
I do think for recovery you need to get a tractor that you can use to control slow and easy instead of the wild light weight thing giving hell and hoping to get it out
Even the small tractor they own would have been a better tool for the job, than the four wheeler was.
That wouldn’t be nearly as dramatic for video views.
And a little bit more speed....
I suggest TFL buy stickers big enough to cover the damage !
I have a 2 door outer banks with same front bumper. For a winch I got a rough country high mount winch. The only thing it blocked was my front camera. But my front grill is different than his. Let him know to check it out. Said and done $700 ish dollars.
Thanks Lance!
Lmao that recovery was harsh af but Lance is a such a cool guy
That scratch sucks but it's a part of offroad driving. I remember the 2nd time I took my brand new 2020 Ranger. I got a long dent it. I still take it offroad and got many more scratches on it.
Is the ranch ever going to be open to the public? I want to try the course in my 2008 fj cruiser trails team Edition.
I have to ask what does AV stand for? It rings a bell for where I live in CA so I thought I would ask.
@@MrBillsfishin it’s just the first letter to my name and wife’s name. It’s a channel I’ve been trying to get started.
@@larrysmith6797 there is off road parks like that that are like a amusement park.If they rented it out or charged a fee to use it they’d make a lot of money especially if you’re a fan it be something to add to your bucket list.
beautiful ram i am more of ford person but this is just beautiful
Bodyguard bumper has an excellent camera relocation, park sensors, etc winch capable
TFL, you guys need to pay for that repair!
Man I’d be pissed if I was asked to drive my Bronco there (knowing it would most likely get stuck) and seeing a Polaris with a kinetic rope used for recovery. TFL should have a proper winch equipped vehicle ready if they expect people to risk their rigs 🤦♂️
