  • Fibromyalgia, chronic pain/fatigue, digestive problems (IBS, Crohn's etc.), severe anxiety/depression, autoimmune problems, there are SO many more! - are a direct result of a dysregulated nervous system.
    In this video I explain a few details about how a person ends up with the signs and symptoms (the syndromes) of chronic illness.

    I just want to say thank you so much! Every word you said I highly resonate. I always had anxiety, but after a traumatic experience, i immediately experienced symptoms of fibromyalgia. However I noticed, when I feel calmer, when I don’t think about it or my fight or flight goes down, my fibro is alleviated. It’s interesting because yes there is no cure, because no one can cure your fight or flight except for me! I’m going to work very hard to get my system back on track. Thanks!

      Hey Jeremy -- yes. you got it. The cure is 'curing' our stored traumatic stress patterns and learning to regulate our nervous system. Not an easy feat, but it is totally possible with the right education, support and practice. Be sure to check out my Healing Trauma video training series that is happening right now ... I think it'll give you even more understanding around what it takes to heal for real: irenelyon.com/healingtraumaseries
      Thanks for watching, Irene.

      Jeremy. I just read your comment about watching the Gaga Doc.
      Funny you should write this as I watched it last night as a client did as well and told me I had to watch it and find a way to help her.
      The thing about her situation is that, from what I can see in the doc, they aren't addressing the root issues of the pain and they are only trying to stop the pain. Fibromyalgia isn't a "pain" disease, it is a nervous system dysregulation .. as you learned in this video. So, because she hasn't gone that route, all the money in the world won't get you better.
      I'd love to find a way to get her attention, but the traffic she'll be getting with this new doc and all the healer flocking to her now will be insane. Maybe with enough tags and outreach to her, she'll find this video too like you did :)
      Take care, Irene.
      And, if you can, I'd recommend my programs online, here is a long, but comprehensive story from one of my alumni, It might interest you and give you some insight into how powerful this work can be when done properly!!:
      "If you believe in the mind body connection, if you believe you are the source of your own healing, but just need the tools, then THIS is the program for you."
      I used to have fibromyalgia. I used to hold everything inside me. Literally. I didn’t feel much of anything (except pain). I was “happy” enough but with no sense of joy. I felt kinda helpless to help myself beyond the physical (osteopath, naturopath, acupuncture, diet and lifestyle - all since 2002) and when my subconscious told me it was time to start taking a look at what I hadn’t seen, my mind freaked out and had no way to file or process and it resulted in a deep, dark pit of depression and despair.
      Fast forward to me creating (another physical) supplement regime that avoided pharmaceuticals to stop myself from taking my life, and some excellent counselling and I was able to see that I needed something more. In September 2016, I stumbled across Irene’s free Healing Trauma intro videos that are the informational series to the 12 week program. I had done SO much myself, I had healed as much as I could, but I was at a loss with persistent dis-ease and lack of overall sense of wellbeing... The emotional side of things and the mind body connection were missing…
      Watching the three-part video series, I was riveted. I felt compelled! It spoke to me in a way no other therapy had! Could I really gain the tools to help myself to heal? Could I really stop myself from responding to stress the way I always had? Really? YES! The answer is YES!
      I went to the dentist the other day, ZERO anxiety. For as long as I can remember the dentist = stress response. I no longer have continual pain in my hip/body -- I used to hold anger in my right hip, I now have the tools to release any pent up anger and frustration in a constructive health promoting way, no longer holding onto it to manifest as physical pain. I have such a sense of freedom. SO much has opened up in my life. I can FEEL and I am ok with that, vulnerability suits me it seems.
      I feel more generous with my time - I am easily a hermit ordinarily. I see an osteopath on occasion as opposed to almost weekly as a necessity. I work through stressful situations in a flash to the point that they are no longer an issue. I can have repressed memories crop up and deal with them powerfully - not be consumed by them. Issues with people in my life? Meh, sorted in an instant without drama on my part... Illnesses around me this winter (I’m in NZ) nada, I have been exposed to SO much and had nothing at all… AND... I am experiencing JOY, every day.
      My past isn’t coming back to haunt me, it is coming back to heal me. I am healthy. My bloodwork and alternative tests look fabulous. No liver toxicity, no chronic inflammation no regular pain… I had done A LOT of work myself prior to this course, and, although I have learnt a tonne and have no regrets, if I could have my time again, I would just invest in this course. And, finally, the best thing…
      I have found love, I am IN love. I am in a relationship with a really awesome man (it’s a recent thing). I was single my whole life (on purpose) and unable to engage, or even if I am honest, consider the possibility of engaging prior to this course… Things are on track for happily ever after… I wondered if it would ever happen… A WHOLE lot of stuff needed to not just change, but transform before this was going to happen and now it has and IS happening. I needed to be able to love myself first… And THAT started with acceptance.
      This program is a journey of self discovery, of letting go of what is not serving you, of gaining the “things” you need to live your life from a place of health… whatever that means to you… You can take it at your own pace, you can stop and start if you need to, you are accepted at wherever you are in your journey, there is no pressure, you are the skipper of your ship… There is incredible support offered by Irene and her team, but also the alumni and other participants. You are not alone. You must DO the work, but if you do, the results are INCREDIBLE. I know this, because I am living proof of it.
      What are YOU waiting for? This IS it. This WILL get you results."

    This is such a clear explanation. It makes so much sense! Especially after the 45 minutes education of day 9. (I am in your 21 Day Tune-Up program and at the end of day 9 you suggested to watch this video)
    While watching this video I got this image of a person that's in a hole with a lit on it. The person is desperately trying to come out of the hole by pushing and bumping against the lit...the fight/flight part.
    The lit, which is heavy and can't move, stands for the freeze part.
    The person is fighting and using all its energy, but the lit does not move an inch.
    It is possible to keep this behavior for a few minutes, but after a while the person gets exhausted.
    This is how I imagine the theory that you just shared.
    I feel blessed to have found you and your free teachings and your program!
    Love, a grateful 🙏🏼 Savannah

    Thank you for the video Irene! I went through years of childhood trauma and began having physical health problems when I was 20. I have had many abdominal issues; liver, kidney, pancreas, colon and have had my gal bladder removed. I was told I was going to die. I saw many different doctors and they are unable to explain why at 24 I had so many problems with my health. After going to therapy for the last year to deal with some trauma my health has improved immensely. I think it is so incredibly important for people to be aware of the manifestation of stress and childhood trauma! Although I am still recovering and have heath issues triggered by stress from time to time it is my awareness that has kept me out of the ER for the last year.

    This is so true. If the whole system is dysregulated on the most basic level, meaning the nervous system, everything else must be in dis-order: hormones, immune system, everything is regulated over there. Lying in the sun and feeling good by doing the things that feel good is a powerful healer. Try to get as happy as person as you can.
    I hope research evolves fast in this field so we can all get help fairly quickly

    I used to get sick all the time. I was more sick than healthy and my doctors didnt know what was wrong, studies and more studies and nothing. Until I started to have therapy and working on my TAG... Suddenly I stop being sick, my allergies disapear, my back stop hurting, hadaches gone, my stomage pain went from 24/7 to nothing, my blood presure is normal and i dont get sick!
    But if im in contact with my triggers I would have stomage pain almost inmediatly and would take me months to recover.
    I couldnt fully understand why. Now I know. Thanks.

    love it ! am just discovering your brilliant presentations. i am a coach & trauma expert and can absolutely confirm what you are talking about here. i do love the meta health and 'german new medicine' approach, personally - as it pinpoints precisely what syndrome, which organ and brain layer and what 'time frame' we are looking at to determine the often hidden initial stress or conflict shock
    once resolved the symptoms disappear :)
    i call our work 'the journey to world peace' - as each person who clears and heals from their 'blockages' will become a whole, complete person, a compassionate 'hu-man' at a place where there is no war within and therefore no war without.

    Once again, a great job explaining the harm that can be done from early trauma. I was not aware that the parasympathetic system got stuck up with the sympathetic system. I thought they were totally reverse, exaggerated all on or all off for trauma issues. I need to restudy this and program this into my understanding.

    I like what you're saying at about 7 mins regarding oxygen. Could this be why, for some people with fibromyalgia, going to a hyperbaric oxygen chamber regularly seems to help. I do feel stuck in fight or flight after many traumas and prolonged stresses and I do have fibromyalgia. I did freeze up and black out during a very bad trauma when I was younger. Sometimes I feel like I want to run about in a panic screaming even when there is absolutely nothing going on.

    I'm youngest of very large , low income family. Father was physically abusive to all brothers, and my Mother, sexually abusive to his daughters from very young age. Got severe case of shingles in primary school. Terrified of him at all times, adored Mother whom I became extremely protective of as I aged, around 17 and up.
    For decades now, as adult, I've had migraines and fibromyalgia, worsening every year. Hypersensitivity to light (sun and fluorescent or flashing), smells (perfumes, dogs, exhaust, bushes, trees) sounds (I startle way too easy with even store intercom..only go out after dark), can only wear cotton or flannel next to skin, cannot tolerate sadness, extremely overprotective of grown children and Mother when she was alive- passed in 2002 and still can't speak of her without crying), prone to panic attacks. Now on disability after working 40+ very stressful years. Migraine neurologist dxd me with "central nervous system hypersensitivity" but had no treatment. Am a senior now and rarely leave my home due to above sensitivities. My children are worried. One is very much like me..had severe unrelenting stress during pregnancy, as my Mother must have had we me and all siblings. None of us are "normal." What can I do?

      HI Norberto, Jen here from Team Lyon. If you'd like to work with what you describe, you might consider working with a nervous system trained practitioner. These practitioners may be therapists, coaches, bodyworkers, or healthcare workers who have specific training in working with the nervous system to heal trauma. Irene has a video about choosing a practitioner that I'll share with you, I'll also share links to a few practitioner directories.
      I also want to make sure you're aware that Irene has also created a course and program - called the 21 Day Nervous System Tune Up and SmartBody SmartMind - to teach people how to work with their own nervous system. You can start the 21 Day Tune Up anytime, and it can a powerful complement to 1-1 work. I'll link to that too in case you'd like to learn more.

So high strung all the time. I'm starting to believe that all of that has caused her health issues. I'm in my late 30s and am taking an approach to natural health. Spending lots of time on the ocean and in nature. I'm exercising more now as well. Maybe that will help reduce my stress levels. I want to try and stay healthy as long as possible

      Hey there, Seth here from Team Lyon. Thank you for being here! It's hard to say for sure as it depends on what kind of trauma, and for how long, and on your individual personality, and capacity, and how much work you've done already. In general one is looking at years not months. I had complex PTSD that went untreated for 36 years, but as soon as I started doing Somatic Experiencing sessions I started to improve. I would say it took me about 5-6 years of regular sessions (a couple times a month) to get to full regulation, but that included massive shifts and improvements along the way. again though, everyone is different.

      Hi Thalia Reyes, Jen here from Team Lyon. I happen to have Hashimoto's too. I've found that nervous system work, including doing Irene's online healing programs (I started with Irene as a program member) has helped me to almost heal my Hashi's. This may not be the case for everyone, and it often helps us to better handle whatever it is we are going through.
      Talking about nutrition is beyond the scope of what we do here, and with Hashi's some find that a helpful component too. Dr. Aviva Romm can be a great resource for that part of it, and very compatible with Irene work as she talks about "allopathic load" (high stress and trauma in the nervous system) as being a key factor in thyroid dysfunction.
      If you haven't watched Irene's free Healing Trauma training, you might find it that sheds some light on a few things: Free Healing Trauma training: irenelyon.com/healing-trauma. I wish you well on your healing path, know that the nervous system (and whole being!) are resilient and it's never too late to heal.

      Hey there Hmm Thinking, Seth here from Team Lyon. Mostly the reason that everybody is not taught this is because this information is relatively new. What we call 'the new traumatology', which is based in these understandings that trauma is physiological in nature, only started emerging about 50 years ago.
      Also, I don't know how much this plays into it, but it's worth considering that if this knowledge was really understood and accepted by everyone it would require a MASSIVE overhaul of the medical system and the almighty pharmaceutical companies would go out of business pretty quickly. Not to mention the world economy only functions as it does now because most people are living in survival mode trying to make ends meet and buying stuff to soothe themselves.

Very painful and really has changed my quality of life, even in the one week I have had it. I did some research and found out is can be cause by stress. Well for me that makes perfect sense. I have too high pressure jobs and a family with many kids. Iv'e had other stresses going on outside of those two main ones as well. Well, I have literally felt the stress in my bones, veins, neck and heart. The only way I can describe it is like a toxic charge on a micro level going through my body, usually pulsating from my vital organs outward. It's not as dramatic as that but it's a slow and very uncomfortable burn. Carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders makes complete sense when it's at it's worst.
      To your point; we are not getting enough assistance. We are left to our own devices and we turn to things like drugs, alcohol, smoking and other addictive things such as food, medication, reckless lifestyles etc. While hyper-consumerism keeps our economy strong, as you'd well know, the price we pay is enormous. Now I have the mammoth task of working out how to regulate. Over the last couple of days, in what used to be minutely stressful situations, I finding myself breathless, shaky and nauseous. It may sound like I'm an intense person. I'm not. I'm a very normal person. But I feel like it's an accumulation of many years of trauma that have caught up with me. There is no 'just get over it' like there used to be. Like I said, I could talk for days about this.

      Yes. When the system can't handle the stimulus, activation that we might call "anxiety" it'll shutdown and "depress" into a lower state of activation that is driven by the parasympathetic nervous system, the portion of this system that is a deep shutdown/survival response.

      Hi parth mithrandir, yes, gut issues are often related to the fight, flight, free response. One of the (many) reasons for this may be that the lining of the gut is believed to repair when the system is a lower-tone dorsal vagal state and when someone is living more in fight, flight and/or freeze the system may not have much access to this state.

    Although emotional and mental stress can cause physical unwellness, we are living in an environmental toxic world, vaccines, medications, chemtrails, EMF/EHS, pesticides insecticides, GMO, etc.. stress can be good, it depends on coping mechanism, etc.. reasons for increase in chronic illnesses are caused by the aforementioned.

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  8 років тому +9

      For sure. The environmental world is also a big piece .. and, I've lived in very clean air, mountain living towns, and the amount of sickness and mental illness is those towns was just a high as the urban environment. So much, un-resiliency we are seeing is due to early childhood adversity and how well the nervous system foundations were in the first place.

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  7 років тому +1

      I agree that we have a lot of extra stress on our systems due to toxins, and, from my experience in private practice, many of my clients become way less sensitive and can better process and integrate these stressors (toxins) without them harming them when they resolve their trauma and better regulate their nervous system. Then, if there is early trauma from the start, it is tougher to heal from these stressors which is why SO many are struggling now: the biggest epidemic worldwide is childhood trauma and it is colliding with the increasing amount of toxicity in general.

    • @pashkapushka
      @pashkapushka 5 років тому

      @@IreneLyon Hello Irene, what do you think is the reason for this "epidemic of childhood trauma"? Surely, the children of the past have had many just as many if not more reasons to be traumatized. Unlike most of us here, they might have experienced the war, various dictatorships, hunger, poverty, ... I don't see why our generation should have more incidence of childhood trauma than before - there is more abundance, safety, and peace. Are you perhaps referring to the fact that many more children come from broken families? And what about those who do not come from broken families and yet are suffering from the very illness which you believe to be the result of our nervous system getting out of whack? I know it's hard to generalize ..

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  5 років тому

      @@pashkapushka Thanks for your note. A few considerations in reply:
      #1 people of previous generations lived in a time where "trauma" was a thing that war veterans "got". Trauma was not understood the way we understand it today, so many many people of past generations were likely traumatized and did not know what to call it.
      #2. families don't need to be "broken" to be exposed to and suffer from the the lack of good social family engagement and connection that our fast paced, on the go, get it done yesterday culture perpetuates. Consider how many people don't do "family dinner" any longer. The prevalence of "to go" meals and drive through dinners.
      #3. In general, less and less connection to each other, and nature. Trauma is, in it's most basic description, a loss of connection. To self, to others. Again, in general, our society and culture doesn't promote slowing down, doing less, doing no-thing. So many many people are living with less connection, and in the "push" of society, living in stress/survival physiology.
      Hope this helps,

      @pashkapushka 5 років тому +1

      @@IreneLyon Thank you, Janice and Irene. These are very valid points. What you say makes sense. Still, I can't help but wonder why it is that in today's day and age so many people suffer from "mystery" chronic illnesses (CFS, fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis, rheumatoid arthritis, lyme, etc.) My parents' generation (I am 40) have not heard of all these weird, hard-to-treat health conditions. People used to die of cancer, infectious diseases, heart problems, many of which we have managed to successfully treat thanks to advances made in the medical field, but doctors are impotent in the face of these chronic debilitating illnesses (symptoms) of an unidentified cause. If people of past generations were most likely traumatized, just didn't know about it, why is it that they were spared of what afflicts our generation? Is it down to the environmental toxins that have increased in the last half of the century? Is it down to the fast-paced life that you mention? Is the combination of environmental toxins, fast-paced life, technology-orientated, humanly disconnected way of being that have created the perfect breeding ground for chronic illness? Or is it that we just talk about it more whereas in the past people suffered through it in silence?

    Theres something I'm not getting. Isn't the action of the parasympathetic to bring the system down, how could it be up? Or do you mean the freeze response? So when both the f&f response and freeze response are stuck on high thats what causes all the issues...

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Jn2it, Seth here with Team Lyon. That's right. parasympathetic brings the system down, but the WAY in which it brings it down is what makes all the difference. The ventral vagal system is like a gentle brake that eases the system into relaxation and also the low-tone dorsal vagal, which governs the rest-digest-repair state. However, the high-tone dorsal (freeze) is like an emergency brake getting pulled, and it actually takes a LOT of energy to maintain that freeze under the surface, which is what often happens with trauma. Then, underneath that, there will also be Sympathetic activation that also is sending contrary instructions to the freeze, so the wires really get crossed, and the system uses a huge amount of energy maintaining those unresolved survival states.

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  Рік тому

      Music Lover, Jen here from Team Lyon. With the nervous system work, slow and steady often leads to sustainable results.
      Large or quick shifts, either in the direction of sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activation or in the direction of settling, aka "going down" or deactivation into a parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) state can be destabilizing.
      Settling can also be associated with threat in many us with a history of trauma (and especially of early developmental trauma), so going down quickly can often cause the system to spike up into SNS activation. I hope this helps to clarify a bit.
      It's not the same, and this does relate to the concept of titration so I'll link to a few videos on that in case you'd like to learn more.

      I really appreciate your feedback Irene and all your work and commitment in the area of trauma, thank you so much! A few nights ago I had dream that told me to check out the difference between SE and EMDR so thought it would be good to ask you your opinion. I now feel I'm on the right path and also followed my intuition to have an SE session early this morning. Am feeling all the better for it, it's amazing and I didn't HAVE to remember anything though an earlier traumatic memory did surface it arose quite naturally as a felt sense and I was safe in a resourced space. I feel so grateful!

      Hi InForTheWin32, Jen here from Team Lyon. I'll link to a few of Irene's resources that may be helpful. These are more practices to be done in the moment. More foundational, lasting change usually involves taking steps to grow nervous system regulation. You can learn to do this by working 1-1 with a nervous system trained practitioner and Irene also teaches this in her introductory course - The 21 Day Nervous System Tune Up - and more comprehensive program - SmartBody SmartMind. I'll link to these too in case you want to learn more.

    Vaccines and environmental toxicity also cause massive dysregulation of the autonamic nervous system. And I've seen on your FB page that you support vaccines. I support you to do more research because the trauma these children go through is off the chart. Your interest may be childhood trauma but vaccines are part of this.

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  7 років тому +2

      Hi there.
      I just wrote this in a comment above in regards to environmental toxins etc:
      -- For sure. --
      Also, to clarify, I never said that I support vaccines per se all around. So please be careful in glorifying what I say on my page. I said that "I" has all my vaccines as an infant, child and my immune system and wellness is top notch. Of course I've had my traumas via surgeries and some low level freeze due to our current society, but, to say as some has said in my group that "vaccines kill babies" (this was a recent post) is fear mongering and it doesn't help bring a higher level of education to these issues.
      Trauma is caused when the circumstances and environment lead to an overwhelmed nervous system. Just as two people may get into a car accident of the same scale and one walks away with no troubles at all. And one comes away with PTSD and a lifelong struggle with chronic illness. My colleagues and I have spoken at length on this, and there is no clear consensus when it comes to vaccines, but what we do know is that if the person/child already is stressed and has a compromised immune system, the likelihood that they will react is higher -- just like that example of two people getting into a car accident.
      My belief, and while this isn't back up my science, but is what I know from studying immunology is university and knowing that the bulk of the world doesn't die when they are vaccinated is that there is more to the picture than we will know right now.
      Each person has the capacity to choose and decide. Especially parents for their kids. So if a parent feels in their gut that their child shouldn't be vaccinated, then that is their own decision and right.
      Each to their own.

      @jessd956 6 років тому +4

      Irene Lyon With all due respect, vaccines absolutely DO kill babies, children and adults. It's definitely not fearmongering to say so. More people need to do the required research to learn the truth about vaccines and their history.

      Here's the thing, of course they're bad, BUT, one of my mentors Ari Whitten says: 'Anyone who thinks they're completely harmful or comletely harmless, is deluded and needs to actually go and look at the real scientific literature/research on this subject. Because if it isn't backed by science it technically isn't proven.' He does believe that they can be misused though.

    When I was a child I often thought about taking my life, because I thought my mouth r was going to kill me one of my he days, I also a bought I might have to kill her, which as a child was so awful. When I was ten she attacked me, I went to my room to try to console myself she came in and told me to stop crying, I was trying to swallow my tears back down when she grabbed me from behind and pulled me into a chair and from behind she put her hand over my mouth and my nose, I couldn't breathe. I don't remember much just that I can bought this was it, this was the day I was going to die.
    I was saved that day by my sister who was 11, she came in a he house just in time, she about e at my mom to let me go, my mom was on auto pilot, she was not there. My sister had to struggle with her to get her to release her hand from my mouth. After she walked of like.a.robot.
    In that same year which I now think may be something to do which that incident, I went to bed on the high and I awoke with poo all over me?
    I did not know.what happened? My mother was so angry, she called me all the names under the sun, and whacked me. Then on it he night it happened again, I was so scared I tried to clean it up but it was everywhere?
    She was furious.
    Three nights in a row this happened, I awoke covered in my own diahrea?
    How can you go to bed and not know you are leaking poo?
    On the third day she took me to the doctors, I was sent to hospital, I was there for ten days, they did not know what was wrong with me.
    did that event some how shut down my bowels?
    Has that event caused the IBS, fishers, skins tags, fistulas, abscesses?
    I think he reason I had the endometriosis was because I shut down my femininity, and took on a male persona to protect myself, I have dealt and overcome so much of what I went through, I have tried a sea of tears,.I have wrote years and years of memories feelings houfhts,.used art in all its forms as a way of expressing what I could not verbalize.
    Yet my health was deteriating, then I releaized I was being manipulated and drained by family members who refuse to begin their healing journey , and I was affected by their toxicity, so I separated myself from them the begins my of last year.
    I have had over twenty five operations for endo, abcesses, skin tags, knee problem.
    I realise I have done myself more damage by going through all these.medical.procedures and taking all those. "medicines" over all those yes s, trusting those who are supposed to care, yet who.do more damage than was there to begin with.
    Money prevents healing, money provides them with opportunities to use us as guinea pigs, and I am done being their guinea pog, for all their toxic manmade Frankenstein concoctions.
    And when I found out that the word Pharmacy is derived from the Greek word Pharmakia, which means, poison, sorcery. That just says it all.
    How.do I resolve it on my own? I have no.support,

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  7 років тому +1

      Hi there, Thanks for watching. Of course we are living with many stressors ... and, when our body is harbouring a lot of toxic stress, those stressors (drugs etc.) are more damaging because the system can't excrete the toxins.
      Also, please know that I don't advocate for meds, that isn't what this channel is about, and sometimes, a person with an infection NEEDS antibiotics. We need to start being more intelligent with how we take care of our bodies and minds and educating people, IMO, is the first step .. as opposed to people being zombies and doing everything that their doctors tell them. For me, this is the bigger problem - we have a population of people who don't understand how their body works and how to help it when it is unwell.
      Further to this, if a person is healthy and regulated and heals their early traumatic wounds, then, the chances of them needing psychiatric meds are very low.

      @IreneLyon  Рік тому

      @user-nd4on7vb6r, Jen here from Irene's Team. The 21 Day Nervous System Tune Up does offer educaton to help people better understand the nervous system and how it works, and neurosensory practices to work with the nervous system. For some people, this will be enough to shift out of the gas on /brakes on state.
      And other people may need additional support, such as is offered in SmartBody SmartMind or doing some work with a trained practitioner. In either case, the 21 Day course can help to lay the foundation for going further.

      Hi @@infiniLor . Seth here from team Lyon. Yup, that makes sense. Nicole is correct that people-pleasing falls into the freeze side of things but the way it does this is complex and not entirely direct.
      When we people-please, it is usually because we are feeling pretty activated in the fight/flight side of things. We are feeling anxious about the situation or the person and so we people-please to try and stay safe. Fundamentally this is a suppression of our authenticity, and the only reason this happens is because we learned early on that it was safer to suppress our authenticity than it was to express ourselves, and this generally happens in relationship to our primary caregiver. Very early we learned that in order for us to stay safe we had to suppress our authenticity and try to take care of our caregiver, so that they would stay in relationship with us. At a young age, attachment trumps authenticity 100% of the time, it's a biological imperative. Great little video by Gabor Mate on this... ua-cam.com/video/l3bynimi8HQ/v-deo.html
      The only way our body can stand the feeling of us repressing our authentic nature is by bringing on the freeze response to numb us to that experience. Otherwise it would be too painful. So that people-pleasing pattern, even though it arises is moments of Sympathetic activation, is rooted in that deep suppression of self that is supported by a pretty refined use of the freeze response.
