HOW TO GROW GRASS

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- So behind all my regular weekly videos I've been busy trying to grow grass in my backyard. I filmed some bits over the past 60 days and stuck those bits together - this is for those of you that like grass.
For those not interested in soil and grass seed then I'll see you again soon with a regular upload. 👍🏼
She'll Be Right.
Cheers to @LawnTips for the advice. Go check 'em out.

How did I managed to watch through whole video without getting bored?
Oh.. Its how to dad
👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🍻😉Better to watch than work!😀Especially "how to dad..."🤣working🤣
Same! Never thought I would actually watch twelve mins of grass growing. I don't even have anything close to a lawn. But hell, it was fun.
I feel you kkk
this video is satisfy me actually
just like being with my grandpa lol
People yelling "GET OFF MY LAWN " makes more sense to me now...great work👍🏻
Woah!!!
Yeah, now I understand why. 😀
Exactly! Makes all the sense now
Lol...
Totally!! All the work and effort
Nice graas should be respected
Do I have garden? No
Am I interested in grass growing? No
Did I watch the whole video? Yes I did.
lol same, for our future gardening plan....
GROW SOME GRASSSS
🙂
Plant trees, screw grass, the lawn mowers pollute to much
U that bored lol ??
Professional landscaper here. California here... about N.Z. I don't know much. This is the BEST,most realistic video I've seen on putting in a lawn yourself! HILARIOUS.😅😅😅👍👍👍❤
Haha cheers
@@HowtoDad churs
So true. My friend bought some of the grass you see in adverts that's supposed to be quick grow, grow anywhere, perfect lawn type. The picture said to sprinkle it with gaps between each seed, don't need much. Ha! Lawn was just like this only worse to start. They ended up buying regular grass seed and tossing it in thick. Only way!
@@angelkotilainen to
Curious what would you recommend putting down in central California where the summer is in the 100s.
And Great video how to dad !
honestly kinda interesting not gonna lie, didnt know how to grow grass before 😂
😂true
Sameee
Not like this.
Growing grass is waste tbh. Grow some veggies and fruit plants instead.
@@petrichor259 why not both
Last time grew grass, I ended up with 200 hours community service.
You got community service BECAUSE you grew grass? lol
Lmao!!!!!
😂😂😂 you got the wrong type of grass seed
@@danielleking262 grass is a slang for weed. People also call it wheat sometimes
@@dusmantaborgohain7600 ah... yeah I knew that when I hear the phrase "smoking grass" but didn't occur to me that's what the original comment was implying..... my bad, lol
Thanks man, now I can grow grass inside my apartment
Oh gosh😂😂
😂😂
I wanted to like this comment but the like count is 420, and it would be a crime to mess with that 😂
Only one Dad's expectations were harmed in the making of this video...
I actually enjoyed this whole grass growing thing probably way more than I should have!!! 😂😂😂
🤫🤫Corona virus lockdown has us ALL watching anything and everything🤣🤣This video was informative and hilarious!!
@@sashatv382 idk about you, but my UA-cam viewing habits are the same... 🤨🤷🏼♀️ I genuinely enjoyed watching this process!!! Haha. And I worry just a bit about how much I enjoyed it lol.
So when are you doing your "Watching Grass Grow" livestream?
We can help chase away the birds with noises. You know those interactive web cams where you can turn a light on and off etc we could do something like that lol
@@angelkotilainen YES
I'd be happy to watch HOW TO GROW VEGETABLES starring HOW TO FAMILY now!
YES! I wanna see this too 😁
good idea!!
This was actually really interesting for someone who has no prior interest in gardening or yardwork. this video makes me interested in this process, so thanks for sharing. How cool.
This video was as exciting as watching grass grow... oh wait.
Oh my, that takes me back to my childhood.....I was the one helping picking up bits and pieces. The only difference, no escaping after 12 minutes.....😂😭😍
Yep! I was a stick picker-upper too.
Good job!! You should be very proud of yourself! That was A LOT of work!!!🤗🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍👍
Folks, don’t get bored, this is how to be a real dad
As a single female living in an apartment with maintenance, I have no fudging clue why I'm watching this; but alas I am.
Me too, but I just wanted to watch grass grow XD
What does being a female, or single, have to do with it?
@@ThePrryns 👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣me too😁🙃
@@StoneE4 it’s part of the joke.
@@aperson176 : Please explain how being a female _(and single)_ is part of the joke.
More more more I need more how to dad stuff. Eg how to build a shed, how to do veggie patch , how to paint a house. Love from Australia 😂
Yes! I would love to see those too. This video also raised my respect for Dads everywhere!
same here
Seriously impressed most don’t take the time/ want to expend the energy to do it right. GREAT job! 🙌🏻👏🏻❤️
Make sure to move/rotate the trampoline around the yard regularly to avoid dead spots. Great Job, comforting to see others experiencing both the ecstasy and agony of growing grass...
1:40 How to Dad flexing his Dad muscles
Thanks for this video. You've convinced me that I never want to grow grass. LoL
Yep, that’s decided, I’m getting the professionals to do my lawn this spring
A guy with a flashlight wandering in his backyard at night. Nothing to worry about eh... dum dum dum...
More than the grass, I was thinking bout how quickly the girls are growing up🥺😅
This is actually great, wouldn’t mind you add a how to dad “tutorial” once in a while. :)
I would certainly watch more of this kind of video. I loved it.
You made me learn about grass growing! That was nowhere near on my agenda 12 minutes ago!! 😂🤣
I watched you go through this process in real time on Instagram and yet still watched this entire video as if I didn't know the ending....it'll be alright 👍 (also grass looks great!)
You are a God dam legend how to dad 😃...that was one hell of a solid effort mate...keep seeding, keep watering & most importantly keep doing what you do for your beautiful little family 😁🥰 Big love from Down Under 🇦🇺 👍
Funny as man, loved it 😂
Cheers mate!
The cross over I didn't know I needed, great work lads
Wow ! I'm thoroughly impressed, How to Dad ! Job well done. :)
The other day I was admiring your lawn and all the trees - everything looked marvelous under sunshine. But now I know that it was hard-earned.
Man I once tried to grow grass but it's just too shady in my woods
I have been waiting for this my whole life... Grass grass grass.. Hopefully in your searching for lawn porn you ran across my channel Lawn Time Coming... Ben from Lawn tips is my idol lol
Lawn Time Coming, what a hilarious name :D
strangely fascinating. really enjoyed this change of pace and topic!
Ah yes, grass, something that Discord mods never touch.
Instructions unclear: Grass is now all dead ;-;
Really didn't expect to be this interested in looking at a grass growning video😮 This was exstremely entertaining to watch!
Could most definately watch more grass growing videos fra how to dad!🤩
This is hands down the most wholesome thing I've watched 2020. All these efforts for the kids. Things you do for love.
I feel your pain How to Dad! I've been doing exactly this (but thankfully on a smaller scale). All the best people reseed three times!
I made it to the end!
What men do for their families ay 💚
Omg no you sexist ❤💅
And women :)
Tis is exactly what my Kiwi hubby does every week when he comes back from army work, check out the grass, mow, reseed the patchy bits, water, water, water (reminds me to water when he’s not around) and admire his hardwork when he comes back😘Gotta love Kiwi blokes! You’re an amazing Kiwi dad!
This is actually interesting and fun. Love the dedication, How to Dad!
How to grass, nice. Can't wait for the spin off How to Fly next.
Although it's different from your usual stuff, I still enjoyed watching it. Good luck in your landscaping adventures!
Oh man, the scene with your "helpers" brings me back to the "family garden sessions" we used to have with my family when my brother and I were younger, good times
You did a pretty good job! You made growing grass look fun!😁
We kind of gave up getting a perfect lawn and mixed white clover into the lawn. It made our lawn more drought resistant. We seeded in the Spring, so we didn't have to water much. It looks lush all season and mowing is every 4 to 6 weeks.✌🏽from 🇨🇦
Watched the whole video. We had to do the grass thingy about 20 years ago when we moved into a new house. Can totally relate to having to chase birds away... they are relentless, but seeing that first green haze showing over the ground is so worth it.
You might need a cheeky seizure warning for the flashlight bits in the middle of the video
Meanwhile I didn't plant any grass and still have it everywhere. Such is life!
I can totally refer to the emotion related with grass growing. After a couple od moth my husband still has this weird face when me and our daughter step on the grass...
Oh man I can't wait for the sequel, How To Dethatch Grass!
Haha yeah I was thinking that the whole time 😆 dya reckon he’s learnt what a vertimower is yet from his googling etc?
@@Rainbowgrrl or maybe How To Dad is more the hand-rake artisan style of dethatching? We'll have to check back in a few years and see! (Is there a point to dethatching in the first few years after seeding? I'm guessing probably not.)
@@setharnold9764 he may just macguyver himself up the dethatcher 2000! Nar not much point in the first few years though. But I look forward to seeing some follow up to this.
I planted a patch of grass about that size a few years ago, I was lucky enough to have a couple compact tractors with tiller, loader, roller and etc. My grass also came up spotty, I just left it along and in a years time it filled in and it looks good.
Loved your video, you need to do more like this!
No yard no grass no kids yet here i am
I loved this! Go ahead and create similar stuff if you’d like - I’ll happily watch 🤗
Good effort! How much did you save by doing it by yourself but still having to buy all that gear?
2 how to dad videos in one week = awesome 🤩
I love ur videos, keep it up!
I can't believe I have just watched twelve-minute video of how to grow grass instead of preparing for the exam😂
Anyway, it was still pretty entertaining
Exact same spot
** Me with no kids, watching howtoDAD cause I love his content **
UA-cam: Aaah let me put in a nappy ad for this new parent
Brilliant sarcasm! ahahah. If chandler ever grew grass, this is what it would look like I guess xD
Sir, we need a "How to grow toddlers". I'm pretty sure your spreader can handle, ngl.
How to DAD - Uploads a video longer than five minutes
Me - Wait! That's illegal !
After the first seeding grew in it almost looked like you had been watering your lawn with *Brawndo* *_The Thirst Mutilator._* 😏😁
Damn. Have to grow grass in the garden. Didn't know what I was getting into. Thanks for the handy guide How to DAD!
people that say it "wont fill in" if you let it go, dont know a damn thing about grass.
I can't believe you've done Keanu like this. I thought you were cool, man.
Only How To Dad could get me to watch a video like this and actually get drawn in to see what happened.
The yard looks beautiful. Two thumbs up👍👍
I have a feeling you'll go mad before you finish all the other patches around the house xD
he wears the same shirt for every single video...
No!
He's a simple man, raising his family.
I had no idea it was so hard to grow grass WoW
This makes me appreciate the work my parents put in growing a backyard of grass. I just frolicked around as a kid, didn't realize it was this hard! 😅
How To Dad should have a book by now! I have learned so much life-changing hacks from him! Like if you agree! 😀
My version: Just tell the grass to grow
Wait till you see the grass under the trampoline in a week. You may want to consider a forth seeding :)
I never had a yard. Looks like a fun project to do honestly, though it seems like a lot of repetitive work
Next video: "How to paint the shed", right?
And this ladies is what a real man looks like!
I hope your family shows you a lot of love because you really deserve it! ♥️♥️♥️
Hey Scott’s Lawn Products People... Time for you to step up here. Advertising potential. Plus you can fix his spreader. Just saying.

This could have been a 3-part series! I want to see more!
( State Certified Nurseryman - and BA minor in Environmental Horticulture ) You bought the wrong type of spreader. I don't even know why they make those - they are just absurd. A ROTARY spreader throws the grass seed more evenly and up to a 6 foot swath on each walk down the row - whereas the horizontal spreader just drops the seed straight down in like a 20" path. And of course if it is broken or the seed is damp at all it is even worse - and way too thick etc . . I prefer a handheld rotary spreader with top bag attachment - which gives incredibly precise application of the seed. And watering before AND after initial seeding is necessary. And a light raking by just dragging the rake lightly after spreading the seed is a "best practice" and THEN - the most important part is watering at least once per day for 28 days minimum. ( 2 or 3 times a day is best if in hot time of year ) And a good fertilization as well. Preferably organic if possible.
Till today I thought grass grew on its own....
You *SURE* it was cheaper to do it this way? 😆😆😆
Seems like you had to spend a lot of money anyway renting the rotary hoe and buying supplies to make the leveller and all the gardening equipment regardless. I would've thought it would've been easier just to spend all that rolling out pre-assembled grass, hahaha
THE UA-cam RULE:
comment first, watch later
Hihi
tbh i do this too
@@dailygeli4357 no..really?
I burst out laughing so many times my dogs are hiding under the bed! 🤣😂🤣 Balloons on sticks! Cue movie "The Birds"! 🤣🐦🐦
Yeah nah, just pour concrete down the side of the house. Way easier than mowing it all... lawn looks great though.
I missed the “than” and thought you mowed your concrete
@@slideways8022 To be fair, mowing concrete is pretty easy too. Less clippings to cleanup LOL
As the video rolled on I could feel myself turning into a 35 year old man. And I also finally understand why you have to "keep off the grass". It's MY hard earned grass. Get your grubby foots off it. That's my blood, sweat and tears. Go find your own grass.
👏👏👏👏👏 *Now that's commitment. And we're talking bout grass, so imagine commitment to his family*
Our school tried to grow grass once. It's now permanently patchy because all the elementary kids didn't follow the rules of don't go on the grass.
this video is hilarious but poignant at the same time🤣😭
we stan an old school grass growing by hand DAD! always doing the most witout ppl realizing it
this is obviously the most instructional video you have ever made
This is the longest How To Dad video I've ever seen
Hahaha great job mate! You are not cheap my good sir, and you should never characterize yourself that way again. You are 'frugal' and by doing it this way and using your own labor and the 12 minutes you got from your kids, well you've gone and created a wonderful memory of dad growing grass and they got to help. Cheers and continued good luck with your emerald carpet.
Lawn porn is a dude from West Australia on UA-cam, probably be stoked to get the free advertising!!!
How big it is and how much budget did you spend averagely
well done dude! I like this guy. Funny. Shame you are literally on the other side of the planet. Otherwise I'd come over with a beer to congratulate you.

How to dad you have encapsulated every thought of trepidation that occurs while undertaking a passion project in this video. Thank you for sharing.
I didn't know Keanu Reaves had a youtube Channel about growing grass.
