For me, it's a frustration that I discovered Christopher Hitchens just shortly before his death. Then again, for me, its a wonder that I discovered Christopher Hitchens. He gave voice to my doubts about faith. He was a guide light on my way forward as I broke the bonds of the religion I'd been raised in, and he was an advisor on my path to rationality and free thought. I never knew him, personally. But I owe him a debt of gratitude for his brilliant expositions of logic. We never met, but thanks for your effort, sir.

Most people who don’t believe in religion usually get mad at religious people for the things they say and don’t treat religious people the way they themselves want to be treated, yet they need to be reminded that the first amendment includes saying freedom of speech and freedom of religion, not freedom to say only what you want to hear and agree with.

I only discovered him about 2 months ago. I can't believe he's dead. Such knowledge and learning and eloquent diction and phenomenal command of the English language and to top it off his main point of focus being the same one I've been trying to speak up against my entire life since my uncle a priest started talking about Catholicism to me as a RELIGION POISONS EVERYTHING. He is a role model everybody should strive every day to follow his lessons and example.

It is unconstitutional. The joining of church and state has caused all evil in the world, wars, witch burning, slavery, the crusades, the inquistion, honor killings, SA of children, cults, oppression of every kind in every nation. Freedom depends on the separation of church and state.

Firstly, of course: the world would be a better place if Mr. Hitching' s great intellect and blazing wit still went forth to provoke and inspire our thoughts.
A fairly sensible assessment of the commandments would be that numbers 3 through 9 represent a sort of rough sketch for positive social behaviour, particularly in a tribal society. 1 and 2 serve no useful purpose except to "justify" obeying the other 8...
And #10 creates a concept later clarified by Mr. Orwell: the notion of "Thoughtcrime".
    Thanks again, Hitch!
