In 2021 for the Longest Day trip, a buddy and I decided to check out the "Indiana" crossroads of the Canadian National Railway in Griffith, IN. Griffith hosts two major arteries of the Canadian National's American rail lines, including the South Bend/Elsdon Subdivision (ex-GTW between Blue Island, IL and Battle Creek, MI) and the Matteson Subdivision (ex-EJE between Kirk Yard Gary, IN and Markham Yard, Homewood, IL). Due to severe thunderstorms the night before, we ended up getting a little bit later of a start than we had hoped, so we began in Merrillville on the GTW and grabbed 3 eastbound trains back-to-back-to-back all of which would have gone through Griffith (and only missed one on the EJE), then remained in Griffith until dusk. A total of 25 trains passed the cameras (one not shown) in roughly 17 hours. The traffic was steady the entire day and CN sent some absolutely wack consists through town as they usually do. I would definitely recommend Griffith to any railfan that plans on visiting the Chicagoland area for railfanning. Great consists and busy traffic always make for an interesting day!
    Enjoy!
