    Great display of non-verbal communication between driver and fireman here.

    Hard working fireman, driver quite easy handling, 3rd man, well he has to start off by just being there! Off the footplate: success to their efforts too.

    Got to driver her during the member's launch back in May, found the reverser to be VERY stiff. Also drove 5199 a couple of times on the AGM days

      She is very stiff especially the reverser. However once she warms up it’s very pleasant driving!

    As a ex western region Fireman, i note that the Fireman should Not Fire when Starting away or with the regulator closed !! Or to keep closing/ opening the dampers,!! plus just use the fire hole flap and not the doors as he is doing !! , if he needs help i can help, The very first tender loco i fired was 6800 Penzance to Truro 1958 pick up local goods .

    I think the Heritage Line speed limit is 25mph isn't it? Just imagine what it must be like at mainline speeds! Very envious of your lovely line and scenery. My local is the NVR and whilst it has some interesting features and great people, it can't match the NNR. Great ride, thank you.

    • @MarkP_747

      Yes we drive at 25MPH, mainline speeds would be a whole different experience indeed!

    I’ve always liked that the GWR did things their own way and followed no one - except maybe the French after Churchwards visit and decision to standardise things.
    What’s stood out here is the driver on the right side whereas everyone else drove on the left.
    How does the driver on that side know where to bring the train to a stop in a station?

    • @MarkP_747
      @MarkP_747  2 місяці тому

      I guess that come part of the route knowledge. We have to know the stopping points for each station on each line

    I always dreamed of riding in the cab of a British Steam Engine, but sadly I don’t think that will ever happen.😊😞
