as a terrible person Caius was, he's true bro when he gave Dust a chance to return to his side, felt sad when his comrade die, fought honorble till his last breath and he was a true hero of his story
Gaius is an antagonist, but not a villain. The way he keeps trying to reach his old friend even when Dust is slaughtering his soldiers and attacking him is just... It's almost like something a protagonist would do.
I can definitely say that I cried. I tried denying it but I cried when this happened in the game. It did have an epically awesome ending But this part made me bawl like a child
I teared a few times when writing the choir section of the penultimate cut scene, where certain person says goodbye to other certain person, I will admit that!
+PixelLassie I forced the tears back, but it was so close, I let out one tear. Just finished this game yesterday and im listeing to this on repeat, its almost like I have PTSD XD
"We did everything right, Dust... Everything we were supposed to do..." "And sometimes, that's not enough Fidget... When the life thread calls... Fidget... Thank you." "Goodbye,,, Dust..."
Im not over reacting when i say this, i've never cried this much to a game or movie before, it was so damn sad and touching, Fidget's last goodbye just had me crying out like a pussy, even more when i saw the end because i knew dust werent dead! first tears of sadness, then of joy. This game deserves WAY more credit than it got.
*SPOILER WARNING* Ever since beating this game two days ago, it's hard to listen to this track. Even when I'm just listening to it, I still get the feels as I can picture the whole scene in my mind. Even the whole exchange between Fidget and Dust. I have never teared up during a game before but this one was different. Was it the actual scene? The music? Or maybe just how both aspects worked so well. 1:23 just hits you like a bus. So much so I renamed this on my iTunes, 'Sacrifice (All Aboard the Feels Train'.) One of the best games and soundtracks I have ever played/heard. :,)
BlazingLeopard98 There is a sequel planned, though the game itself hints at other Blades of Elysium. So with that said, in the sequel, Dust may not be the protagonist again, if not still alive.
When the final cutscene happened, my thoughts were something like this: "Dust got blown away by a sudden lava explosion. This looks bad, but he's freaking *Dust*! He'll survive it.... wait, he's crawling.... Okay, Gaius killed himself. Dust... Dust, why are you not getting up? Go on, go with Fidget... *go with Fidget, damn you...* noDustwaitdon'tdiegetoutofthelavanuuuuznononocomeongetupsummonthatlastminutestrengthGETUPGETUPNUUUU Crap." Afterwards... "Yep, he's still alive. FOR TEH WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNZZ"
I had tears streaming down my cheeks because of the ending I immediately looked up if there's a sequel. And yep, there's a sequel planned (Twitter post) This game is just beautiful
FireKid112 Nope! No rumors! It's on the creators twitter Though I don't keep track of his games, but he said he'll make another gane aside of Dust first and then plan it out
"Ashes to Ashes..." Fuse's last words to Dust "Dust to Dust..." Dust's last words to Fuse "Thank you... Fidget..." Dust's last words to Fidget "Goodbye... Dust..." Fidgets last words to Dust. The Power of Death presented in this game... its... Overpowering. In recent gaming years, (With the exception of a few gems, Such as The Walking Dead) Treat death like a score... This track and the sheer drama of it... Make me proud to have played through... But think... What of Haley? And Bopo? :(
the Halfway point of this game and the Ending... no matter how often I hear this theme I just feel utter sorrow. I look forward to the Sequel, one of my favorite games to this day...
From the beginning of the game to this point held my childhood close, but when I saw this part, with the music and all... it hit me like a bus and my eyes stung for a bit... you guys do very good work, keep it up!
This particular track on the OST is my personal favorite. It is amazingly powerful. There arent many "sad songs" that actually drip with sadness. No matter how many times i listen to this, i feel humble and almost bow my head for Dust. Not many songs I feel can do that. In fact, the last time i played a game with a soundtrack this amazing was Shadow of the Colossus. Dean Dodrill created a masterpiece and the works of Hyperduck complimented everything perfectly. My hat goes off to you Hyperduck.
Man that was a great job, I played the game recently and one of many things I appreciated was the soundtracks. Just fantastic. I really hope there will be an other game so we can keep on travelling along with Dust and Fidget while having your wonderful soundtracks ;)
MrFenderburner With an ending like that, there has to be a sequel. I would so love to see them reunite with each other. Also, I would love to see the place where Fidget lives, and learn more about the Nimbats. :)Hope it comes soon.
I have been called flegmatic a lot and it is true since there is little that would affect me emotionally. But THIS AMAZING game with THIS AMAZING music was the only game that made me cry. Before when a character that i liked got killed if was only: aaaawwwww...... But this masterpiece made me cry. definetively one of the best 10 games ever made.
this game is one of the four games that have ever made me cry, the other being pokemon mystery dungeon red rescue team, explorers of sky and gatea to infinity :P this ending was, and still is my favorite ending ever. good job everyone that worked on this game :,)
Music comes from a person's feelings. And u can use music to understand certain things and people without them uttering a word. This is definitely good music. If you guys we're to make music like this for the worship of God without anyone singing in it. God will be greatly pleased because it stems from your heart and everyone will know it's for the praise of God.
From what I've heard he definitely wants to, though no details yet because it's far too early. I know I'm really looking forward to it whenever it comes out too. :)
I have yet to play this game, but I'm willing to bet the Steam price is worth it. The game's soundtrack is simply stunning, and the fact that the game was made almost entirely by one guy just takes the cake. From what I've seen of it, this game is a true work of art. Now the question is, will my computer run it...
To be fair, that is the problem almost all indies run into - because good advertising can cost a lot of money, as well as require resources and connections that only bigger developers are likely to have. On the plus side, with the Steam release I think it's gained a significant amount of exposure to at least do well (I know quite a few people I know bought it during the summer sale).
Do you think there is any way that you guys could make an extended version of these songs? It's that I like to listen to music when I shower and these tracks end just too short. It's cool if you can't and great work on the songs btw.
Btw General Gaius is a man of honor. He did not tricked Dust and not throw him to lava with him even if he had opportunity - he literally grab Dust's hand. And what he did? "Cherish it" And throwed himself to lava. What a man
I hear ya amigo... such a soulful game. I wonder if there's gonna be a sequel? In any case, I'm a fan. Here's to hoping they'll all return someday, and that the movie is gonna be equally awesome.
Its crazy how this ending is nothing special in particular. Im sure we have all seen a similar scene in a other game or movie. This game had almost no cutscenes to build the story. We only had dialogue to build the characters. So why did I and so many people get so emotional? I think its the fact that this game is such a hidden gem with a small budget and an even smaller team that it really shows the passion the development team had for the game. Thats why its so perfect.
Ohmygawd. When I first downloaded the game on Xbox 360 for free. (For having gold) I played it some and eventually looked at the ending. I teared up and I really wanted to know what song it was they played when he's being coated in lava. I usually listen to like all that remains kinda music. (Heavy metal) but this song is my favorite. And today I got to general gaius and watched the cutscene. It was way more intense doing it myself than it was watching someone else do it. So if you have Xbox live gold and you haven't downloaded this game. DO IT!!
All samples! This was the era of EastWest Composers Collection for us plus a few other bits n bobs, google orchestra sample libraries you'll easily find lots of options.
Probably that Dust will either come back somehow, or that a new protagonist will appear, inheriting his soul. I hope to see Dust, Fidget, and Arah come back though, kinda feels like a new trio can't be as awesome ever again.
Do you think he got enough to motivaite him for a sequel for this game? So far, for games like dark souls the binding of isaac (yes 2 is coming) and dead space, I always wished for a 1 and it always came out as good as i hoped and even more. I really REALLY hope that in this case it will happens too, even more than those other games.
Hello! I got my piano arrangement of this ready. It's approved by Hyperduck Soundworks. You can find it here: Piano arrangement: Dust: An Elysian Tail OST - 01 - Falana
Problem is, they dident make enough advertisement... You might think its a minor thing, but its a major thing, the game can be way better than alot of the AAA games, and this 1 is, but still, without advertisement, ppl wont know its exist, or at list wont be interested enough... As some 1 who just finished the game yesterday, and defently can say out of all the games I played, this is 1 of the 4 who I will remember the most (alongside Dishonored, Walking Dead and Dark Souls).
I've had this game SOOOO long, listened to the entire OST so many times and only now am I realizing that it's "an Elysian TAIL" instead of Tale *facepalm*
I think, path of reincarnations will merge Dust's souls stronger and there will be nothing left from Cassius' soul, except skills, because self-sacrifice is unknown for people like Cassius. Maybe new challenge for Dust will be uneasy choises between good and evil (and third gray way). Choices between cruel truth or merciful lie. In first game all choices was easy, because there was clear-sighted enemy - Gaius. In sequel story must be more complex... and involve more nimbats! :3
Or it could be something with the other swords of Elysian. Honestly I think it would be cool if it went back before Dust, with Cassius and General Gauis. Since we didn't really learn his motives for killing the Moonbloods, or know much about them.
yeah, everything goes in harmoniously, and the fact that a 2d game like that can make a better story than other 3d games, it's almost perfect. Well if it weren't for the downsides of this game like lack of challenge for boss fights and redundant monsters, then it would have been the best arcade game for 2012. Comment re-posted

Goodbye dust
as a terrible person Caius was, he's true bro when he gave Dust a chance to return to his side, felt sad when his comrade die, fought honorble till his last breath and he was a true hero of his story
_Cherish it._
When Gaius' eyes teared up a bit when he fell to the lava, I actually felt sad for him.
Until I watched about this game, Thanos was the only villain I've cried for
This is sad...
Gaius is an antagonist, but not a villain. The way he keeps trying to reach his old friend even when Dust is slaughtering his soldiers and attacking him is just... It's almost like something a protagonist would do.
I can still hear their voices as the soundtrack plays...
I can definitely say that I cried. I tried denying it but I cried when this happened in the game.

The choral stills give me the chills. Such a moving theme. c;
Not usually one to get emotional to a game but this was exceptional.
Same here, I was like petrified during this whole cutscene. I just sat there and watched..... and hoping a miracle would happen.
Im not over reacting when i say this, i've never cried this much to a game or movie before, it was so damn sad and touching, Fidget's last goodbye just had me crying out like a pussy, even more when i saw the end because i knew dust werent dead! first tears of sadness, then of joy. BlazingLeopard98 There is a sequel planned, though the game itself hints at other Blades of Elysium. So with that said, in the sequel, Dust may not be the protagonist again, if not still alive.
@@SethTheArcanine I wonder how that went.

That moment, at 1:25... that was powerful. I applaud you, Chris and Dan. Just beat the game, sat here speechless during that scene.
Dust needs so much more popularity compared to everything else. Honestly the best game I've played this year.
my god every bit of this music is like a punch to the soul 1:23 was definitely a breaking point it this game that flipped the feels switch
A current caught in the winds of change, a harbinger of storms yet to come...

That scene teared me apart
This saved videogames for me.
Well let's not be hasty, but I'll prepare the sacrifice table for you.
When I first played the game and heard the song when he died and the end I cried.
So corny and ham-fisted. And yet, still straight in the feels. Great game!
thanks :D!
HyperDuck SoundWorks
when i hear this music its just nice music for but in combination with the game you did a fucking masterpiece
Amazing track. I just wanted to point that out. My OP sounded rude. I wasn't knocking it just FYI.
From what I've heard he definitely wants to, though no details yet because it's far too early. I know I'm really looking forward to it whenever it comes out too. :)
This scene... it just... Let's just say that this one almost made me cry. No game has ever done that apart from The Walking Dead Season 1.
Anytime!
Mind if I ask another question? Can I just re-download the album if I should lose my files or I gotta buy it again?
maybe even the best game I've ever played.

Thanks for the heads up! I bought it :)
+MrMii20102vr I bet you didnt regret it either -Sniff Sniff-
Porushinobu Nope! :)
Me either :3
Not to mention that the last scene repeats what happened in Mudpot with Bopo and his dad... Just... So Moving...
Absolutely love the song! The human voices around 1:30 give me sort of a Far Cry 3 vibe though :)
i like the endling but what do they mean about: A harbinger of storms yet to come?
To be fair, that is the problem almost all indies run into - because good advertising can cost a lot of money, as well as require resources and connections that only bigger developers are likely to have.

I listen to this, played the game, and I think to myself "Hey Hyperduck, when the time comes, wanna help me with my own game?"
Great game, would play again
Dean has plans on possibly making a sequel. He stated at the PAX East 2013 panel.
1:20 Man this part gives me feels...
This was one good game I can tell you that.
Is it possible to buy individual tracks?
once appon a time, i actually kinda cried, and therefore defied the laws of physics, cause thats how awsome this game is.
this song is sad and I miss dust I love you dust you will always be remembered :(
Are the links in the description broken? I'm hitting them and basically it's a dead link. I kinda wanna get my hands on the whole soundtrack...
Btw General Gaius is a man of honor. He did not tricked Dust and not throw him to lava with him even if he had opportunity - he literally grab Dust's hand. And what he did?

I am a huge EastWest user, it's all I use right now. It's good to know this is what EW can do. Thanks!
