This track really gives that feeling of brittle, vulnerable isolation. Like being the last person on earth. Or a single insignificant spec in a sea of sand. It's that kind of lonely that begs for someone to care and understand. It's realizing you're not a badass or a god or a protagonist; you're just a man with a beating heart, a terrible burden, and no one to truly share it with. And it fits Subaru so well.
Not only that, the title itself is so perfect for Subaru's character and situation. "Fantasy Lied". Subaru was transported to another world thinking he was gonna be some op badass with a harem and all that other crap, but he quickly learned that that wasn't the case, and that all that he'd seen in fantasy was just that, fantasy, and that the world of Re:Zero is just as chaotic, horrid, and cruel as the real one. He was lied to by fantasy.
The first time this track played in episode one when Subaru is just stood their watching her communicate with the spirts is one of the best anime scenes I’ve ever watched, the way all the other audio cuts out is so immersive.
I love the contrast in that scene of how he realizes he's falling in love with her, and the melancholy undertone of the song hinting at the immense amount of tragedy and hardship to come.
This song gives that feeling... Dispair while feeling completely numb just because: It matters not how hard you tried, It matters not how many different paths you tried, It matters not to ask anything to yourself and there's always something preventing you to speak with others, such as the Witch's "curse". You ended up when you started: Alone and helpless without anyone noticing. This piece is just majestic for how well it shows such a complex feeling in a song. And one I hear every damn morning.
“My hands don’t get hurt when I clean anymore rem and I’m also starting to learn how to read you guys have done so much for me please I don’t want to die”-Subaru💔
What I love about this track is that it encapsulates both the beautiful feeling of fantasy with the harsh reality; even if you're transported to another world, it's still gonna be just as punishing.
Keep on coming back to this song. Re:Zero had many uplifting and epic moments, but this plays whenever Subaru feels deep emotion, such as melancholy, yet the first time this played was when Subaru was watching Emilia talk to the spritis in the slums. That was his first day in Lagunica, yet not knowing the tragedy and adversity ahead of him, the dreamy and fantasy-filled worldview he had must've lifted at that moment. If Subaru was infatuated with Emilia on first sight, that was when that emotion truly realized, when he knew he wanted to help this ill-fated girl through an unknowably cruel world.
Season 1 will always be my favorite because of the sad isolation feeling it had. It's an amazing emotion it conveys that Season 2 and 3 never truly replicated for me the same way season 1 did.
One of the best OST in the whole world. The sound of the notes are just wonderful, it feels like having flashbacks and memories of a life you never had. You feel the warm sunbeam touching your neck in a wet forest... I just want to listen to it for the eternity without be disgusted of it
For people who gets confused by the real meaning, Lied is the german word for song but yeah it’s true that the fantasy was lied for both Subaru (thinking he was the stereotypical isekai character) and the watchers (thinking it would be a yet another standard isekai) lol
this is probably my favorite track, including requiem of silence and the season 2 stuff. I don't know, it just feels like re:zero. it's beautiful, but also so alone. I read the light novels with the soundtrack on the background and this is what I play when there isn't anything more fitting, and there usually isn't. in different contexts it feels completely different, but always like re:zero. this track is what comes to mind when I imagine all that subaru is been through, including his hardships as well as his triumphs. this is what ties everything together. thanks for the edit btw, it's flawless.
The reason i loved so much season 1 compared to season 2 even though season 2 is largely much better objectively is because of all the atmosphere around it, the darkness of despair, the dellusion of a fake hero, the continuous torture without any ways to escape from this cycle, we discovered so many mysteries into it and every answers that we found led to even more questions, it's just why season 1 is the best for me and i'm sure arc 6-7 will be A BETTER continuation of this atmosphere in re:zero !
if anyone here has heard the minecraft soundtracks, you will understand when i say this song is a depiction of isolation and would easily fit into a game like minecraft, where the music shows how lonely a single player world can actually be. just being able to fit into a masterpiece of a soundtrack like minecraft's soundtrack is a giant feat and definitely shows the emotions the composer wanted to bring up to the front.
A quiet sadness. A calm hollowness. A peaceful decay. A melancholic existence, the only scraps of good in heaps of bad. A paradise paradox. Man this show is wild. At least season 2 had a happy ending.
God this anime has no chill, I'm just there enjoying the anime and then episodes 18 and 19 hit and I'm just here, crying with anger, confusion and just pure sadness, I have cried for 30 minutes like this. I just want to see (character name, not saying the name because spoilers are bad) happy... Thank you for extending this track.
I finally found it. I was like, there's a song that plays when Subaru is trying to figure things out or something is about to change for the worst. It plays practically in every episode, well and many anyways.
For me this song perfectly found despair and peace yet it feels like a realization that what was wished for was just too otherworldly or was not meant to occur; a lie, an acceptance.
Oh god... I always listen to that ost of re:zero when I have a bad day or get depressed, it makes me cry everytime because no-one is actually care for me or how do I feel when people who I care about acting like I'm not even exist :'( Sry 4 my bad English btw ...
I am in the same situation, I suffer with depression and I feel as if no one really cares about me, most of the time the other way around completely ignoring my existence as if I don't even need to look in my eyes and it hurts me a lot. if you need to talk, call me on the discord~ ShiroeSSI#8122

One of my favorite OST from Re: Zero. It’s sounds beautiful and I feel a lot of emotions from listening to this. Re: Zero season 3 is going to be the best to watch. I read some of chapters of the web novel. I can say with certainty, that it will be the best anime of the season, if it’s done the right way.
Excuse me, but has anybody else noticed that this soundtrack especially has this way of conveying utter loneliness the same way the background musics from Minecraft does?
I have only watched half of the first episode and I am in love with it. The charm, the music, especially this song, and characters just bring to life this wonderful start to an anime. Edit: Jesus Christ this show has everything I am asking for. I watched a few more episodes and it is a lot to take in. SPOILERS by the way. The gore of each kill he has expresses how much he has to deal with his power as it comes with the cost of experiencing the pain over and over and living with the memory. The characters and their attitude towards everyone, including Subaru who is an extrovert even though he is a shut in is amazing. There is so much I can say about it but all I can say is there is not enough words to express this masterpiece so far.
@@HoshinoholicI would like to come back and say I finally started to read the novel.
