Rajnikant and Shoba are siblings. Rajni is a winch operator for the power house. Jayalakshmi seeks shelter in Rajni's house and he allows her to stay. Sarath Babu arrives as the new engineer. Once Sarath counsels Rajni that winch shouldn't be used for personal purposes. Rajni dislikes it. They both become inimical due to a clash of ego. Rajni loses one of his hands in a road . Rajni and Jayalakshmi fall in love and they get married. Meantime Sarath loves Shoba. Due to the enmity, Rajni looks for a different groom much to the dislike of everyone. Whether Shoba-Sarath pair unites and Rajni-Sarath get into good terms is the rest of the narration.

Rajini of the late 70s and early 80s...mullum malarum, johny, netrikan, aarilirunthu arupathuvarai, thappu thaalangal, thillu mullu, thambikku entha ooru, billaa, thee, pollaathavan, murattu kaalai... vera level.. Very unfortunate that thalaivar didn't do full justice to his acting skills and totally went into commercial route..

Stalin, already director Mahendran always backed up new faces or super star rajini for his movies. only during the movie kai kodukkum kai movie, that Mahendran lost in super star rajini because he wanted to become mass hero like MGR. That is where he lost his acting ability. My sincere prayer is that rajini should become Nadigar Thilagam after Sivaji Ganesan, not another MGR. I hope that rajini will realize his acting ability, unlike Kamalahasan, he is very realistic in his acting approach.
