There's more than one measure of greatness. Drake can definitely argue his body of work is greater, even if it lacks the depth of Kendrick's music. He's the only rapper from this generation who could pass away and get the MJ treatment where radio stations play nothing hit his hits all day and fans don't get bored.

Overly dedicated (2010) section 80 (2011) GKMC (2012-13). TPAB (2015) DAMN (2017) black panther album which he executively produced (2018) THEN the five year gap MMATBS (2022). He’s been active, also Kendrick’s strength is his QUALITY not QUANTITY. I much rather him drop ever 2-3 years and have something come out with weight and substance. This is the interesting thing about the 5 year gap to me from Kendrick (2017-2022). Kendrick and TDE did release the Black Panther Album (2018) plus had multiple features, however during that time, J Cole released two projects (KOD - 2018 & The Off Season - 2021). I’m not a huge fan of KOD but The Off Season was a better Cole project. So let’s say Cole went 1/2. I’m not going to count the Dreamville projects solely because it’s not a Cole album. Drake released 11 projects to include EP’s (Scorpion - 2018, Scary Hours - 2018, The Best in the World Pack - 2019, Care Package - 2019, Dark Lane Demo Tapes - 2020, Scary Hours 2 - 2021, CLB - 2021, Honestly Nevermind - 2022, Her Loss - 2022, For All the Dogs - 2023, For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition - 2023). Out of all of that, I would say Drake had about 2 good albums in (Dark Lane Demo Tapes & Her Loss) and had about 3 good eps (Scary Hours 1,2, and 3) so overall Drake went 5/11. So my point is, Kendrick taking “5 years off”, Drake or Cole IMO didn’t drop anything groundbreaking or anything that would move the needle for me to consider them better than Kendrick. So while as a Kendrick Stan, I would prefer if he was more consistent, but seeing how great his discography is & what I always get out of a Kendrick album I personally am okay with waiting whatever time I need to.

And about Cole being in third place in this Big 3 debate: The problem with cole was never his pen, the problem is that he couldnt follow the other lanes that drake and kendrick went and I'm talking about amazing visuals, impacting the new generation and things like that. Because when it comes to pen, Cole washes Drake EASILY and there are A LOT of rappers that can wash drake easily but just the pen is not enough. Keep your work bro, you are doing one of the most important things in hip hop that is talking and giving importance to these things that for a lot of us is a big part of our life.

For an album about therapy..thats as good as its going to get. No other rapper can make an album about trauma, healing and therapy as creative, catchy or clever let alone better than kendrick at this moment in time. Im sorry but its the truth and mm&tbs is a 8/10 imho. That album was great for what the content tackles from beginning to end.
6:50 your favorite superstars weren’t always in your face like Drake pre-social media. It’s actually helped make Kendrick more famous or at least more of an enigma due to the mystique of being less accessible. He’s proven so people will tune in whenever he does decide to pop out. Also, we’re not gonna pretended Drake’s quality has been anywhere near kendrick’s since 2017 even with Kendrick only dropping 2 projects in that time frame. Do we care about what we’re consuming or do we just want to consume anything constantly? That’s why the whole “he goes away for 5 years” thing makes no sense to me as a negative.
To be honest I hear a lot of people talking about Kendrick’s inactivity or him taking “5 years to drop” the only time he had that layoff was between damn and MMATBS. Overly dedicated (2010) section 80 (2011) GKMC (2012-13). TPAB (2015) DAMN (2017) black panther album which he executively produced (2018) THEN the five year gap MMATBS (2022). He’s been active, also Kendrick’s strength is his QUALITY not QUANTITY. I much rather him drop ever 2-3 years and have something come out with weight and substance. You can’t dock him when he’s putting out consistently above average projects. That’s one of his strengths and why he has 3 arguably 4 classic albums that will last a life time. Cole has maybe 1 project in forest hill drive. Drake has none. This all comes into play when you’re talking about goats of the genre.

The inactivity argument against Dot is bogus to me and some brand new standard that never existed before. He has one of the best bodies of work in music history. Yes he can take 5 years off to have 2 kids, start his own label, and still be the best. This microwave, tik tok attention span thing is not legitimate.

This is the interesting thing about the 5 year gap to me from Kendrick (2017-2022). Kendrick and TDE did release the Black Panther Album (2018) plus had multiple features, however during that time, J Cole released two projects (KOD - 2018 & The Off Season - 2021). I’m not a huge fan of KOD but The Off Season was a better Cole project. So let’s say Cole went 1/2. I’m not going to count the Dreamville projects solely because it’s not a Cole album. Drake released 11 projects to include EP’s (Scorpion - 2018, Scary Hours - 2018, The Best in the World Pack - 2019, Care Package - 2019, Dark Lane Demo Tapes - 2020, Scary Hours 2 - 2021, CLB - 2021, Honestly Nevermind - 2022, Her Loss - 2022, For All the Dogs - 2023, For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition - 2023). Out of all of that, I would say Drake had about 2 good albums in (Dark Lane Demo Tapes & Her Loss) and had about 3 good eps (Scary Hours 1,2, and 3) so overall Drake went 5/11. So my point is, Kendrick taking “5 years off”, Drake or Cole IMO didn’t drop anything groundbreaking or anything that would move the needle for me to consider them better than Kendrick. So while as a Kendrick Stan, I would prefer if he was more consistent, but seeing how great his discography is & what I always get out of a Kendrick album I personally am okay with waiting whatever time I need to.

Kendrick to Goldberg is not a good comparison. I think Kendrick is more like The Rock. He’s cemented his legacy. He’s the People’s Champ. He can disappear for a decade to do side quests and come back and the crowd goes wild. And for the Cole fans that think he has nothing against him, the best place he can hit is his confidence. Drake is fine making mediocre, safe, pop music and getting money. Kendrick is fine taking his time to release polished projects taking risks with his sound. Cole has never been confident in his position and him hopping on a song with Drake to posture himself as #1, Drake as #2, and delegating Kendrick to #3 was poking the bear. He deserve this.

Kendrick is S-tier in hip hop. Nothing will ever change that. Just like Slick Rick, Big Pun and Biggie are S-tier with not giant discographies in hip hop. It's not about how much you put out, it's what you put out. Kendrick has put out things that will transcend his era in hip hop
