Very insightful, Kirti. Bowie was a master of nuance, of presenting something in a way that would draw the audience in, intrigue them, and make them want to pay close attention. A subtle pause, a way of holding himself, a certain warble in the voice or a particular enunciation. He was a true showman and knew so much stage craft.

David Bowie invented characters which he used to conceptualize and present the music: Major Tom, Ziggy Stardust, Halloween Jack and The Thin White duke.
Starman belongs to the Ziggy his glamrock period, and Ziggy was a kind of androgynous alien rockstar with his own band The Spiders from Mars.
Bowie constantly re-invented himself and used these different characters as alter egos, canvases to paint his exploratory themes on. He changed his alter egos every two/ third year moving on to a new musical genre.
He was also very interested in space and aliens as metaphors for isolation. He often discussed the conceptual idea of isolation as a means of creating something special. Several of his classic songs deal with symbolical isolation: Space Oddity, Starman, Heroes, Ashes to Ashes.

Flying Saucers are real and David knew it. This is about our brothers and sisters across the universe.

Wow! I didn't think anyone would do a reaction video to Starman since it has been so long ago that it came out and it has always been pushed to the back of the pack of all of Bowie's other much bigger hits. It's one of my personal favorite songs and I'm an old head-bangin' rocker who grew up in the 70's. Thanks for doing this song. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Minnesota.

Kirti, you nailed it. I know a lot of people who would have listened to the selections you have reacted to who would give up on David Bowie. Too chaotic. Too many different styles. Blah blah blah. Mr Bowie was definitely a performer extraordinaire.

Perhaps we are all " the children " to The Starman " .. A being many hundreds thousands of years ahead of us from very far away, As we visiting cave men of our past might blow thier minds with our technology . so would he,, He is definitely good, because he does not show himself for fear it may harm us,,

I can't decide if this is my favorite Bowie song, or if it's Modern Love. So lucky me, I've got two favorite Bowie songs.

About himself? His alter ego? The pied piper that he was?
