I saw him live three times. The first time was in 1983 on the "Serious Moonlight" tour. He was perfection vocally. He hits notes that night that made the audience of 53,000 fans gasp. Last time was on the "Reality" tour in 2004. Over 20 years later he was just as good as the first time I saw him. He played a great set that night. The encore was a highlight as he performed three songs from my favorite album Ziggy Stardust. They were "Starman", "Suffragette City" and "Ziggy Stardust". When he sang "Ziggy played guitar" at the end of the concert it was a moment I'll always cherish! There are a lot of artists/bands I love, but David will always be number one. A brilliant songwriter, great vocalist and genuinely great guy. In spite of having an incredible intellect, he always seemed down to earth and approachable in his interviews. I miss him and his new music greatly.
A great reaction to my favourite artist. Bowie was an iconic genius. His Ziggy album is my all time favourite and I have been listening to that since 1972!
That 1980 line-up of musicians remains one of the great "What ifs?" of Bowie's stellar career: What if he had toured with them to promote the Scary Monsters album? Tragically, those plans were shelved following John Lennon's murder that December, which not only robbed him of a dear friend but also prompted Bowie to retire from public life for a year, after the police informed him he was second on the assassin's kill list. He then switched music for moviemaking, starring in The Hunger and Merry Xmas Mr. Lawrence, and then came back in HUGE style with Let's Dance in 1983, which made him a global megastar. His vocals on Wild is the Wind, Sweet Thing, and Lady Grinning Soul are arguably his greatest ever, but you should also react to his version of Heroes at Live Aid -- it's a masterclass in vocal performance.
i have seen bowie 8 times live over the years from 78 to 2003 never disappointed i cannot pick just one song but Hunky Dory was the album that got me into him as a kid back in 73 in England at that time we had never seen anything like him before .
Nice, me too , a little earlier, round '73 , first time without parents on holliday in cornwall, popperrol..time from ziggy and hunky dory..his star was rising in that time..hunky dory has always been my favourite
So many to choose from but Changes for me springs to mind as 1 of his most iconic, even to point of appearing on Shrek 2 soundtrack and Lindsey Lohan sang it on movie Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen that she did at the time which of course if needed was proof David Bowies appeal and popularity was and always has been multigenerational.
I think another reason for the key change here is that, by this point, Bowie was entering his "crooning years" in which the focus was very much on deep notes and smooth vibrato. He could still sing his old songs in their original key if he used his falsetto voice, but he preferred to belt out the high notes with all his power, and that's not easy to do! So he had to lower the key in order to sound more macho or whatever he was going for at the time.
In terms of live performances, there is a video on youtube of Bowie doing the song Ziggy Stardust in the last official Ziggy-Stardust-Persona concert and it is fantastic; he is vocally on fire and looking incredible in his original Kansai Yamamoto outfit. I would recommned any song from that concert honestly, a few of them are up online like Moonage Daydream and Rock n' Roll Suicide, all excellent. :) For lesser known albums, I think Lodger deserves a fair shake as the most underappreciated of the Berlin Trilogy (the other two being Low and "Heroes"), any song from that would be interesting but I love the second half in particular - anything after and including DJ - and the opener Fantastic Voyage. In terms of individual songs, Time from Aladdin Sane is severly overlooked and I consider it one of Bowie's best lyrically and tonally speaking, it's very cabaret style and the production is fantastic for bringing that concept to life. Similarly "Teenage Wildlife" from Scary Monsters & Super Creeps, honestly has some of Bowie's best vocals in terms of pure emotion.
Hi Shelby, It's great to see your generation still tuning into David Bowie's early stuff, When you have 10 minutes to spare check out, David Bowie - The Old Grey Whistle Test - 8 February 1972 - BEST QUALITY It is uploaded by Tanaferry, The first song (Oh You Pretty Things) David plays the piano so i think you will enjoy it.
David Bowie, was a 🌟 Starman he was designated to teach us that there is indeed aliens UFOs. He knew this 30 years ago. God 🙏 and goddess bless him for his inspiration.
This is what is great about the internet, yes as you said we have access to all the great iconic singers/bands. But also as an older guy , the joy of seeing beautiful young people like you discovering this music. I'm a huge Bowie fan, I grew up and live in the same area as he did, although he was about 17 years older. I saw him live 4 times. A great performance to see is this "Heroes" video, it also shows David's sense of humour at the start ua-cam.com/video/bsYp9q3QNaQ/v-deo.html
If I were to trim down Bowie discography, to make sure I hit all the high points but also spanned his career, I'd give this list to someone: Space Oddity, Hunky Dory*, Ziggy Stardust*, Aladdin Sane*, Diamond Dogs*, Young Americans, Station To Station*, Low*, "Heroes"*, Lodger, Scary Monsters, Let's Dance, Earthling, The Next Day, Blackstar* Of those, the ones I've given an asterisk* are, to me, the essential David Bowie albums
If you really want to be amazed, watch the live version of starman from the bbc theater or Glastonbury 2000, or the live version of life on mars at Glastonbury 2000 / reality tour 2003 album ... he really kept his feel and soul in his voice, even in his later touring years. I honestly think he sounded best in 1999-2003.
1:51 wow, and there's a lot to listen since many albums of him are great. And they change according to the 'epocque' or recognizable phases. One of the bests for me is the album 'Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)', which is after his 'soul' phase (of Young Americans and Station to Station; where he did a lot of coke, but produced so many great songs in those albums). Scary Monster is such a weird and amazing album.
You should react to ungodly hour album you might have heard 1/2 of the duo before she’s the one who sings “Have mercy” yk “booty so big lawd have mercy”😭😭😭😭😭😭yeah well it’s her! Her and her sister are an RnB duo 😄anyways there really cool u should check them out
Try Width of a Circle or Wild Eyed Boy from Freecloud, or maybe Love You 'Til Tuesday or Little Bombardier from his even earlier days! Please! Thank You!
You should react to Zayn's entire discography. Mind of mind, Icarus Falls and Nobody is Listening albums, and some of his live performances, you won't regret it.

Hey! I'm a big fan of your work and I was wondering if you could listen to some music I've made for a game (I'm mostly a game developer). I want some creators opinions on it, and since you make music related content, I want to hear your thoughts. You don't need to make a vid listening to it (retro music isn't your type of content) but I want your opinion.
Think you watched the worst video of him singing Life on Mars......Glastonbury , and I think he did it for a BBC audience recording around 2000....much better
Glastonbury is my favourite place in the world, and I can't *wait* to get back there in June. The video of the full 2000 set was broadcast for the first time ever a few years ago, and it's worth seeking out! David complains of a throat bug during the show, but it only really results in a few less elongated notes. It's also notable because he didn't really do greatest hits sets during his live career, giving due deference to whatever record he was promoting at the time, but he does in that show. Of all the songs played, the altered version of Let's Dance is particularly dreamy ✨✨
My favorite artist of all time. Rip legend
I miss Bowie so much. He truly was a personal hero. I would also recommend Aurora's beautiful live cover of Life on Mars.
I’m a teenager and I can still vouch that Bowie is the greatest singer of all time. I’m still yet to hear a song of his that I don’t like

I also really like the differences in the Life On Mars performance, love artists who change up songs a bit over time

My favourite artist of all time hunkydory is my favourite album of his and have them all
Five Years and Oh You Pretty Things are also on video from this era fyi. I love how Ziggy looked kinda punk in his earliest incarnations. I adore him.
i have seen bowie 8 times live over the years from 78 to 2003 never disappointed i cannot pick just one song but Hunky Dory was the album that got me into him as a kid back in 73 in England at that time we had never seen anything like him before .

he wasn't entering in his crooning phase as you call it that performance is from tv in 1980.
Please do more of this. Station to Station and Time would be amazing.

Look for the official vids for Life on Mars? (Mick Rock, 1973) and Starman from Top of the Pops, both available on UA-cam. Mind. Blowing.
He was the most mesmerizing human
Yes!
Have you seen the movie Labryinth? Underrated Bowie classic in my opinion
Great review AOC
Love John I'm only Dancing , Sorrow , Drive in Saturday , The shores of Amsterdam , not so much The Laughing Gnome 😆
The Laughing Gnome is just a step up from Leonard Nimoy singing The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins
If I may suggest, “Width of a Circle” from the album David Live at the Tower Theater, Philadelphia. Enjoy 🍻
React to the albums: Hunky Dory, Station to Station, Heroes, Low and the last one Blackstar
Rest in Power, Legend

He always hit the notes, ALWAYS.
You've got to hear (watch that man) from Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
❤❤❤❤❤
hello can I please suggest two of David Bowies songs to react to, Win and Fascination
Nice one, keep it up!
Post-coke Bowie couldn't quite hit the high notes like he did before, but an octave or so lower helped him out.
I hope you do moonage daydream live from the ziggy era :)
You may well not have heard the underrated Heathen album, if not I can recommend it.

I almost did that one, but I wanted to find one from an earlier time than 2000. But I will be watching that particular one on my own time. :)
