The blizzards of 1996, 2006, 2010, and 2016 (the heaviest) were big for NYC getting more than 20” of snow each. Sadly 2023 hasn’t been active in terms of snow. We have had a few winter busts in the past decade, 2012, almost 2016 except the storm I just mentored which saved that winter, and 2020. Hopefully 2023-24 winter is heavy in snowfall but I have my doubts as El Niño, which is developing, typically makes winters warmer and drier in the northern US.
I was born a few days after this in upstate NY. My mother went into labor and my aunt and dad had to run an extension cord with a hairdryer out to the car to melt the ice off the doors so they could go to the hospital. My fiancé was born in the blizzard of March 1993 lol
I lived on 14th Street and walked up a deserted Fifth Ave. to my job on 27th street, where I think 3 others showed up. I remember seeing a pickup with plow and marked "4x4" stuck on top of a seven-foot drift.
1996 was a beast for a snow. I just move to Florida a year before the snow storm of 2016. 2012 was the time that New Yorkers literally believe a hurricane can be that strong.
in 96 i was 21 working at johnny's truck stop off exit 12 i-78west had fun getting home in my 83 buick regal After i took a man to a local auto parts to get an alternator & serp. belt he pulled in his alternator was on fire 😆 never saw anything like it
I believe there was 17 snow events the winter of 95/96. We had a couple of deep ones. In suburbia, snow sucks. Nothing but a mess. In God's country, like upstate or Canada, it is a winter wonderland playground. I hope we get no snow this winter & our reservoirs fil to a safe capacity without any flooding.
I remember the blizzards of 95 and 96. Childhood memories. The best blizzards.
I'll never forget it. There was so much snow.
