- A live performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in 1984. Taken from an old videotape.
The sound on the tape has rather lost quality during the years. Brilliant lead guitar playing by Frank Reckard.
Did anyone else notice the I Feel Fine riff at 2:45
Absolutely !!!
Yep!
I didn't...but thanks for pointing it out!
That’s a quote of “Buckaroo” by Buck Owens
I thought it was a reference to a Buck Owens (Don Rich) riff - but maybe that's another one.
Thats one of the greatest guitar solo.s you will ever hear
This is my all time favorite guitar solo. It may be because I saw him do this live in Hampton Beach, NH. His solo seemed to go on forever and, although I went to hear Emmylou, I didn't want him to stop.
Have seen him live , also , on Luxury, no one has done it better, and many have tried! He is now an activist lawyer!
Frank Reckard ladies and gentlemen. The man sure can pick.
Man could he ever!
I saw this band live back in the day, and sat in the front row. Wow, they were ridiculously fantastic and Frank Reckard was outstanding. He's not as well known today but he was definitely one of the greatest guitar players ever.
became a lawyer in new mexico
I saw the Hot Band in the 80s, and Frank Reckard just floored me. My favourite Hot Band guitarist by far.
Mine too. The guy was crazy good.
Can't get any better! Frank went on without mercy! Great stuff!
What a great guitarist, Frank Rekard, Emmy Lou draws greatness by her presence, earlier she had Albert Lee. Rodney Crowell is still singing with her.
And before Albert Lee she had Bob Warford, at times Bob AND James Burton, and started the Hot Band with James. A pretty darned great run of guitar players, and she’d turn them loose for extended solos unlike most front persons.
I remember reading about Frank Reckard in Guitar Player, I imagine not too long after this performance. I remember there was a photo of him playing that Les Paul TV he's got here, which had a custom string bender built into the body. You steel that round knob immediately behind the bridge? When that's attached to the B string, and there's a mechanism attached to the guitar strapped, so that when he pulls down on the neck, it bends the string up. The guitar was stolen sometime between this performance and that article being published, because the theft was mentioned in that article. I just found out today that eventually Frank got the guitar back, so that's kinda cool to hear.
Whoa, Nellie! The tempo on this version feels faster than the Hot Band version with Albert Lee from 1977 on YT. Blistering. Brilliant solo.
how great!! Great to hear FRANK REKARD rockin out!! GO FRANK!!!!!
Audio quality is fine!!
Yeah but I still prefer Albert but you can't really compare GREAT WITH GREAT can you. I do like Parsons rendition better though....how he starts the song with that Cash 5,6 train getting faster beat. BUT AGAIN GREAT WITH GREAT!
This is definitely one of the best examples of country guitar playing I’ve seen. Too bad he’s not as known as James Burton and Albert Lee.
I wish I could find the version of Wheels with Frank.on it - it's the best.
If that doesn't get your blood circulating and your feet going, you are DEAD. I Loved Frank Rikard's guitar work on "I'm Movin' On" Live at Red Rocks, but I just heard this and it's phenomenal. Love Emmylou's singing, and there's no doubt the band is Hot.
A guitarist’s guitarist, A low profile giant! Zac Child’s said Mr. Rekard earned a law degree and left music, can you imagine, guitar in the Hot Band following Albert Lee, and James Burton, playing at that level, and walking away from it to become an attorney. And I’ll bet he is one outstanding attorney too.
How is it that he became an attorney??????
@@pabloperez4063His family are high achievers.
Went to school.Duh
I went to Claremont High School a year behind Frank, and was friends with his younger brother Matt.
He and his band played at some of my high school dances and we thought he was just consistently amazing! Glad he got to jam with Emmy Lou and the Hot Band!
If I'm not mistaken Frank Reckard is using a "B-Bender" (?)
Yes, he does,
Astonishing guitar playing. Wow, just wow!
Great playing from Frank....great taste and tone. Love Teles but love those DC Les Paul Specials too. He's right up there with James Burton and Albert Lee.
Funny.. Rock n Roll anthems tend to be secretly played on fenders and country on Gibsons.. What a world!!
Excellent guitar playing by Frank Reckard ...!
Veramente fantastica anche se gli anni passano ❤❤❤divina🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋
Frank’s an amazing guitarist ! Incredible
One of the best solos Ive ever scene or heard country or otherwise i wish someone would do the tabs for it I think Frank Reckard took over from Albert Lee what a player
Saw Emmylou and this band at Circle Star Theater in Redwood City opening for Wilie Nelson.
Hard to believe this guy is arguably the 3rd best guitarist Emmylou had.
At some point everyone ties for first, really.
Albert Lee was always my favorite. Cheeky bloke.
Un morceau qui déménage et ça fait du bien.Fabuleuse Emmylou,et alors le solo de Frank....
Awesome band!!
Frank, you make it look sooooo easy! Love it!!
Smokin' solo by Frank Reckard!
briljante gitaarsolo van frank reckard:
een kippenvel moment
Love Frankie's guitar solo way better than Albert Lee's in another video...
I agree..
totally agree, much more fluent player, v musical and less flashy..
not me albert lee the best
She used to introduce Frank as; on guitar and cigarette, Frank Rekard. He was GREAT
That B-bender on frank's guitar sounds great.....
nice job of not over-using that bender.
Me and everyone loved Emmy Lou. I saw her twice up in the front row in the early 80's at the palomino. I remember Ricky Skaggs as her lead guitarist. I locked eyes with her a few times. I looked a lot like gram parsons in those days, now half bald. gg
Yeah I would go alone without a date because I just wanted to watch emmy lou. Not only was hers my favorite kind of music but she -- my god -- she was just impossible not to adore. I was
I've only just discovered Frank Rekard here. Wow! He's absolutely outstanding and looks so cool 😎
This is the hot band I saw at the Civic in Portland Or. - AMAZING
Wow! Emmylou and her band! Incredible...thank you😀😀
Definitely a Man's Fantasy,we need to deal with our realities!!
I LOVE the sound of that Gibson Les Paul Junior DC that Frank Reckard is just burning up. WOW !!!
Just great talent
frank was a monster
Соло гитарист-супер!!
A little different than the version I remember, but every bit as good as the one with Albert Lee or James Burton (IMHO).
Legal, super show o guitarrista nem tem comentário super legal
Just compared Frank reckards guitar chops on this version Albert Lee's on another version both great hard to tell which was better love both.
Frank's fantastic but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOObody tops Albert
Tru dat. but I think I'll have to got w/ Albert doing this with Ricky Skaggs.
I did hear Emmylou Harris and Frank Rechard at Stavanger Country Fesival about 1987 I think. In GuitarPlayer magazine, Frank Rechard was mentioned as an intelligent player. In between James Burton and Albert Lee. One of the greatest country player I have heard and seen.
Love the Beatles riff.
Fantastic
Did you catch Frank's little smile? Smile away, you deserve it!
PHEW! Simply fabulous in every area. I've watched this now several times over the past two days and... wow. ALL the vocals, Reckard's leads, the unrelenting locomotive rhythm. All HOT indeed!
Is there possibly any more footage available from this performance? (Please. Even if the quality is"only" like this, anything more would be GREAT!)
Emmylou, Harris and the hot band luxury liner
Grandioso solo de, Frank Richards
Awesome Frank!
Her voice here was her best country voice, ever! Saw her with Frank and Albert several times, guitar will never get better! Only Vince can compete well today! We still have great country, but it is rock with Keith, Osborne, Rooney. Frank was amazing, and creative! Graduated from UCLA Law, a NMex Atty General ! Still plays! Hope you saw him then, a true guitar hero!
Damn Fast fingers Franck Reckard - a pickers picker.
Awesome X 10
Hot guitar from Reckard!
Hele goede gitarist.
I prefer when theres not so much loud interference with Emmylous gorgeous voice.
What just happened ?
Great !
Holy **** Batman
Wow .
always reckon Emmylou had great bands---probably better bands than her singing deserved!
Apatrullando la ciudad, apatrullando la ciudad por la noche con su coche el policía Nacional
Was this ad red rocks??
Yes, this was at Red Rocks. It still rocks!!
@@Gaiaan08 thought so. I saw many groups at red rocks. Including the tear gas riot in 1971 with jethro tull. I saw Emmylou with this band in 1976 in salt lake.
Emmylou took Gram Parsons' great song, and let 'er rip!
*There's only one Albert Lee, yet Reckard does a great impersonation of hin*
there's only 2 great leads ever played.... luxury liner by Frank Rikard....... and the Star-Spangled Banner by Jimi Hendrix...... the Stratocaster was invented for the Star-Spangled Banner
Albert Lee might disagree with you, but Frank did do a great job.
@@TheAzmountaineer Albert Lee is one of the finest guitar players ever lived. Remember he took over after Frank retired to be a lawyer who argued cases in front of the Supreme Court. When Albert took over they actually slowed the song down. At least you can copy Albert Lee
@@starke2908 Not to really argue the point - I saw Emmy Lou several times and Frank killed it. But Albert was with Emmy Lou before Frank so I'm not seeing how they would've slowed it down for him, since Frank hadn't been there yet.
Frank Reckard could eat em all alive, probably half the crowd came to Frank play that Gibson guitar.
Awesome X 10
