This Rolex airking 4499 from around the World War 2 era needs a little tender loving care. It’s one of the earliest airking models to be made by Rolex. The war, aircraft, pilots and timekeeping as their source of inspiration for the airking models.

You’re like a cross between a wise old sage, a comedian, a master craftsman, an awesome father, an Oscar worthy editor, director and producer. Thank you for doing what you do and for sharing it with us.
Wow 😮 thank you 🙏
@@NekkidWatchmakerthis my second video of yours first was engraved Rolex, this one was wonderful also but I'm disappointed not to see troubles dial art installed as I really liked the look of the kids Rolex
I didn’t know how I felt about replacing the dial but your solution of replacing the dial and still keeping the old one was a really good way to handle it.
your watch restoration skills are impressive! Also, your advice to the young to resist social media pressures and fashions is spot on.
32:45 just imagine leaving your Rolex for service and it comes back looking like this:
I recently started working for someone who has been a watchmaker for 60 years. Yes, he's 80, but he still has the passion and I feel so lucky that he took me under his wing to teach me the craft. Watching videos like these only gets me more and more excited for the future and everything I will learn. This is one of the most beautiful crafts I think that has ever existed.
Good luck with your new profession.
When we can expect yours videos??
@Randy Marsh, I've been a professional watchmaker for 19 years and been interested in it for probably, 30 years. My Great uncle was a watchmaker and my mentor and I was lucky enough to inherit his tools when he finally retired but if I've got any advice, it would be collect as many service parts and broken movements as you can afford, this was the advice that my Great Uncle gave me and it's held me in good stead! Crystals, main springs, hair springs, face and hands are getting harder and harder to find and keeping family heirlooms ticking is a rewarding experience. We can buy all of the tools that we need, what we cannot buy are the parts to restore the movements!
Ey man how is the job so far
@@abdellahsalehi9231 Yea I think we want to know.
The videos UA-cam suggest you watch, you watch one and “BAM” you become addicted to something random, wonderful, and lovely.
that's what happened to me yesterday -- down the magical rabbit hole into the world of vintage watch restoration!
@@ireallylikemaps me too!!!😁
Same!!! 🥰🥰 now I can’t stop watching
You are an artist, my friend: The Bob Ross of watch restoration, for sure! Keep up the amazing work and may God continue to bless you and your family.
Thanks mate same to you and yours
🤣🤣🤣“The Bob Ross of watch restoration”. I loved that comparison! 😛
@@NekkidWatchmaker justice couldn't be more accurate with that comment
What a beautiful restoration. The finished item is a joy to behold.
Thank you for being a good dad. You are so right. We should protect our kids.
The alternative watch face was my favourite.
That mix of Roman and Arabic numerals would drive me nuts.
I want one and am ready to buy!
Yes, he went to swap it out and I cried “NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!”
I am 53 years old and watching your channel has ignited my passion for restarting my personal watch collection. Watching as many of your videos as i can. May our good Lord bless you and keep you and your family safe during this peril times.
As a father to two young ladies, all I say say is “Well put!” Thanks from all fellow fathers out there! Much love and safety your way.
Amen as Father’s we don’t just become protective over our own little one’s but other’s as well. It’s a Father’s love for other Father’s who you pray would do the same for you.
Very well put also a father
I just happened upon your channel and actually WATCHED the whole thing. I never thought in a million years I would be on the edge of my seat and holding my breath. You sir, are a master craftsman.
Agreed!
Its a kind of very stressful relaxation isn't it LOL
You , sir are a professor of watches and a master watch surgeon, bringing back the life of mechanical time pieces, and beautifying them. God bless you and your family. Looking forward to .more videos. Satisfying the soul and mind . Thank you
Junk becomes a masterpiece. The end product is just beautiful.
Don’t do social media mate….I’ve a 12 year old daughter….nothing more enchanting than the innocence of our kids. I’m fascinated by your skill but your narrative is on a par. God bless. Bob Joy and little Bella x
gorgeous! nothing ruined about that i love it. the quirkiness about of the dial switching between roman and numbers is my favorite part
I have a stupidly stressful job, I watch your videos and everything is alright in the world. Thank you.
Secret service agent for Biden and harris are you?
A programmer?😅
Me too
That was more than just restoration. It went from someone's old junk to a fantastic masterpiece. The end product is breathtaking.
That finished product is one of the nicest watches i've watched you do.
This restoration was incredible! Love your sense of humor
How I wished the finished watch was available for purchase. The nicest Rolex I’ve ever seen.
It is isnt it, I dont normally care that much for watches but I really love this one and would love to own it. Its like the perfect size, shape and thickness, elegant but not boring.
I know nothing about watchmaking but find your videos unbelievably compelling and completely riveting. Thanks for making this content.
Another splendid job! Love the classic black dial and strap!
I enjoyed your closing remarks more than the restoration…and that’s saying something. THANKS!!!
For all those that like silence there is a volume button on all devices, personally I like your sense of humour 👍👍👍👍 Keep up the good work.
Our world is always in need of another "gentle" heart. Thank you
His watch skills,..the intricately, the precision involved, attention to detail, and patience. I love watching his work ❤️
The Pulp Fiction reference with Christopher Walken, humor and skill, what more can you ask for?
Thank you!! I couldn't remember which film and it was doing my head I !!
Beautiful restoration! The black replacement dial was a great choice.
Thanks daniel
@@NekkidWatchmaker Keep the paper dial to put on a old parts Rolex and present to son at graduation.
doppler great idea mate
Yep.
I read online that stay away from lumed hands but not lumped dial, as it may indicate a Franken watch (if buying on ebay). I'm still not sure what a Franken watch is though!!
@@leoi3031 Franken watches are watches that are watches made of multiple different watches from the same brand or similar enough brand
I like how this guy has a funny sense of humor while acting serious.
How do you know he isn’t acting funny with a serious sense of humor?
I had big stroke while read you reply!
So true Lin. those without a sense of humor, simply go through life as miserable souls.

Oh and those ‘special dials’ are priceless........I know you’ll keep those forever and cherish them ❤️👍🏼
Real Oriental style of appreciating tea. No pinky raising allowed. Beautifully done.
I'm watching this proper gentleman repair a vintage chronograph and out comes a Pulp Fiction reference. Epic.
Hahaha
So random, I literally had my gf watch Pulp Fiction for the first time yesterday.
An an Avengers Infinity War reference too...
You scared the ever loving... out of me with that bloody pic!

Thanks mate. Same to you.
Well you have a gift you are a watch makerGod bless you again I like it when you make phony voices
That' s a compliment
Sir,
@@NekkidWatchmaker Do you offer watch repair/restore services?
I would love a watch where my kids designed the dial! What a neat idea :)
i wouldn't recommend using paper. UV does bad things to it. However you can get dial blanks (1) and ink jet/laser printer decal film so it's not impossible.
1) The exact watch will determine how much of a pain in the butt that is
That black dial looks bloody awesome with the stainless steel and the black snakeskin strap
Probably the nicest Rolex I’ve ever seen. Nice work.
Dave O just thinking the same, it's gorgeous
I loved the Special Dial. Please give my admiration to the artist. Best regards from Mexico.
Haha yes I will do. I love those dials too
Your chat is ASMR, thank you.
All I can say is amazing. I am starting out in this hobby as a novice and you have inspired me.
Love the Pulp Fiction reference at 1:39 👌🏽😎
There are many watch restoration channels on UA-cam. But yours is the only one I subscribed. I appreciate your mastery of the craft, sense of humor and reflections on life. Love your channel!
Thanks mate
LOL I laughed hard when you pulled out the rare dials. i love my son and grandchildren too. That is what we are put here to past on, our love and knowledge. Well done again.
The end result... I did NOT see that coming at the start of the video. Wow, that was amazing!
For Christ sake, I was not prepared for the "after" shots. It probably looks much better than what it looked like when it left the factory. Hell of a job!!
The original dial has a secondscale belong to the centersecondhand. I like the new dial, too, but I would prever the old one. After all: "A good job." Very good comand, nice to see...
I understand (sort of) preferring the old dial. The black one is the first Rolex I've seen that I felt was beautiful. Imagine my surprise therefore when I realized the true beauty on this channel is your soul. Nothing to do with watches at all. Hug your family and stay safe.
I just love WATCHing your videos, genuine craftsmen at work.
Thank you. Gaining confidence to restore my late father’s 1950s Bulova. A joy to watch and listen.
I'm lost already lol how you remember all the parts and where they go is amazing, well done young man.
Great sense of humor Christopher Watkins!😂
Why some folks want a commentary-free experience I'll never know. Your thoughts, humour, and spoken explanations make the whole experience complete. Good karma for you and yours, Mr Nekkid.
Thanks mate
Love your sense of humor. Subbed! Super entertaining.
Not related to the video but just wanted to say that I love your channel. And your work changing the bridge on that 52 Gibson was equally awesome.
Guitologist! I love your informative videos as well!

Who would have thought that a watch repair could be so entertaining? This gentleman has his head screwed on right. There seem to be so few of his kind left in the world. "Thought we had medications to control this type of thing!"
I love your channel to cant believe you like this also
A truly amazing journey from start to finish. The guy has some patience and a incredible memory to where all the small screws and parts come from. That's the first time I have watched a watch getting repaired. Truly amazing and some craft to carry out this type of work.
Coincidentally I saw my watch man recently (hello Billy) he has exactly the same calm demeanour as my favourite UA-cam restorer.
Video point: 31.12 = priceless. Better than the Royal Academy could produce in their Summer Exhibitions. Thank you for making me so happy.
Thank you 🙏
BRAVO! I do hope this one does not disappear into a dark void, more please.
Looks very nice. I’m not even a watch person but that is classic.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. The watch critters was different but the coffee sip was epic😂😂.
The black on black is simply stunning.....understated stunning. Classic.
“Provide you with some escapement.” I see what you did there.
As a father of a young daughter I agree you hit the nail on the head. Just subbed
Your talent is only surpassed by your humility. Bravo
Mr Nekkid, you are a wise man, I like your words.
Aside from your incredible talent with very high value timepieces, your position on the “greater” pandemic is not only apropos it is spot on and well articulated. Thank you for sharing it with us. I pray it will not fall on deaf ears.
Thank you 🙏
I have zero interest in becoming a watch maker, yet I find these videos fascinating and entertaining. Love your commentary and sense of humor.
Thanks mate
Thank you for your expertise, and your your rare sense of humor. Live well!
That was awesome. I think I've found the best watch restoration channel on youtube.
I think this is some sort of new covert therapy. Enjoyable, soothing like his voice, but addicting. Thank you.
Thank you for restoring this beauty back to working order...I'm a believer in restoring what we can whenever possible.
Thanks Shawna
The macro shot of your tea is brilliant!
As a father of twin thirteen year old daughters I applaud and agree with your statement wholeheartedly! In this day and age it truly takes a village. Thanks for your excellent content. I look forward to each new episode. May God bless you and yours.
Thanks mike same to you and yours mate
So... I bought me a multi function digital watch from Walmart the other day. It was on sale for $3.50 (not a typo) I decided to wash my hands with it on to see if it was water resistant. It was not. Got all full of bubbles inside. SO...Being the budding watchmaker that I am.
Took it apart...dried out the moisture and sealed the 4 buttons for the multi functions with some Shoe Goo. Cute little blobs at the ends of each button. It appears to be fixed. I haven't pressure tested it to 800 ft but it no longer gets moisture when I wash my hands with the watch on. This is all because of your encouragement. You rock SIR.
Let that be a lesson to you: never wash your hands! Lol, JK 😉
Wow look at Mr. Rockefeller here! We can’t all spend $3.50 on a watch, showoff. 😉

I love those “California Dials”, first they were shocking to me, but now I find them with a lot of personality... ❤️
Very good as always. A real pleasure to see your restorations Joe
I can think of NO MORE BEAUTIFUL video on You Tube. Thank you for a look at perfection. Well done.
Thanks Peter
For some collectors it has to look nearly destroyed. As a collector and watch repair amateur myself, I don't care about that sort of heritage, I want it restored to a point where it can't be distinguished from new. To each their own, of course.
A bit of patina is not too bad, but yeah, that Rolex looked horrible and was probably a pain to read too!
I agree with your comment wholeheartedly that the belief that watched need to look run over is really not the point of these videos. The heck with "patina" when it makes the restoration pointless.
'Patina' is the politically correct word for 'corrosion'.
Which, of course, is just absolutely desirable in the guts of a precision machine.
the "mysterious" 1534 is the same as the serial number :)
The eye of this beholder found it beautiful enough to give pleasant cold chills and goose bumps. I also enjoy your wry sense of humor. Thank you!
Thanks jimmy
who would even want to "watch" without the commentary/instruction? That's the majority of the entertainment!!
The Instagram bit had me laughing after a very hard day at work. Thank you for the brilliant comic relief. The watch looks superb.
Thanks mate
Sublime my friend, what an absolute pleasure to watch, true ARTISAN.
I loved your solution to the destroyed dial . Save the old and install a replacement . Easy peasy .

I have lost count of the number of times I have watched this video. How can anyone dislike it???
I shared your channel with my physical therapist who is a watch lover. He told the he had binged watched your videos all weekend. Now we talk watches as they work on me. New friend for both of us!

It still amazes me how he remembers where all those gears and intricate pieces go during the re-assembly process!!
I wish there was a way of contacting him directly as I’d love to have my Dads Tudor from 1949 restored. Maybe he could feature it in one of his videos......... ahhh wishful thinking!! Keep the videos coming!! Love the humor!!
Thanks!
I can't remember where I parked my car most of the time..
The finished watch is the most outstanding Rolex I have ever seen. Thank you!!
Your restoration was not the only thing spot on about this video.
Well Done.
Love your video! There is so much mystique and seriousness around horology. It is so refreshing to see someone adding a sense of humour. Good skills

The Christopher Walken was spot on, props for the Pulp Fiction reference! Thank you for the uploads. You have the patience of a saint.
Thanks for finally explaining Jewels in a watch.
To be honest I don’t think the dial need to be replaced ,as long as you don’t throw it ... but you did awesome on this watch! Love your content
I seriously appreciated the slurping of the tea and the compulsory noise of appreciation after. It's 3.18am, and I'm going to have to make a brew now!!
