You do not "push on the button" to remove the cooking section. You just pull it out. You push the button to separate the 2 parts you pull out.

in answer to the plastic button cover..Yes put it back on, it keeps you from accidentally dropping the pan before you place it in a safe spot.

It's Lori's Life for your larger family I would suggest the bigger 5 quart size. If not you gonna be standing there cooking several servings. Especially meat.
I have the 5.3 qt version and love it.

@@CassieAfricanQueen Wow, more things that I can list in here. But almost anything that can be deep fried. I have even baked calzones in my air fryer!!! And the tried and true french fries, of course!!!

Did you use any oil when you cook? And if you did, where does it go?
smurfsiw the oil goes to the bottom of the pan.
You may spray some PAM (or equivalent) in the case if dry food, but normally no oil is needed. Most french fries or breaded food are already oiled.
You just have to spray PAM (or equivalent) over dry food in order to get crispiness. But normally, it is not needed. Never pour any oil inside an air fryer.
