Granted BTG divided dropped slightly but its still the one stock I can afford no matter what. It's my discipline builder...probably always hang on to it for that reason alone.

      There are thousands of stocks, don’t throw darts. Put them all on a spreadsheet and use formulas to filter through the weeds to the solid stocks. In general 99% of your list will end up being household names, JNH BA BAC AMZN INTC and so on, if everyone has heard of the company it’s probably a safer bet. And yes I know some I listed don’t pay a dividend, some growth stocks should be in your portfolio too. IMO…. some metrics I look at are Volume, Liquid Options available, growth, or decline over 52 weeks, Option open interest. My strategy is different than most probably, but to each their own. Point is, do a bit of homework before you throw cash at a stock or a stock option.

    • @rynewilliams
      @rynewilliams  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Vladi! This is a great question. The better option between the two just comes down to how much time you want to spend in your portfolio. If you want something that's completely hands-off and can grow on autopilot, dividend ETFs will probably be the way to go. If you think picking individual companies and doing the research into them (and learning how to do the research) sounds interesting, then individual stocks aren't a bad way to go. You could always do a hybrid between the two as well, which is what I would say most investors do

    Is this a value portfolio or a dividend one?
    It promotes the value of the stock itself beating the market which is good if you intend to sell the stock in retirement, but for a purely dividend portfolio where you only want to live on the dividend and not sell the stock, the sub 3% doesn't beat inflation.
    So it seems if you really want value, you could adjust for heavy hitters and sacrifice the dividend a little. But if you want dividend, you could sacrifice the value and try to get 5 or 7 or even higher dividend return focus.
    If I wanted to balance both, I think I would sacrifice some of that value and push a little higher for dividend percentage.
