In this video, I'm teaming up with my good friend, @NolanGouveia to build the perfect dividend portfolio comprised of 10 awesome dividend stocks for brand new investors.
The ideas and opinions presented in this video are meant for informational and entertainment purposes only, are not intended to serve as a recommendation to buy or sell any security in any account, and are not an offer or sale of a security. They are also not research reports and are not intended to serve as the basis for any investment decision.
Which stocks would you put in your perfect portfolio? Let me know in the comments! 👇
“Perfect” depend on when the dividends are needed. For example, GOOGL yield isn’t great, but they are sitting on cash and only just started paying the div. Someone who needs the div now would not want it in portfolio, but 20yrs from now, it should be great.
Another concern is dividend timing. If you need consistent income flow, you may need to “calendar” diversify, which may eliminate some options. Alternatively, if payment timing isn’t an issue, it opens up more options.
Vici wouldn’t be my reit choice personally, but otherwise, those are all great choices! I like BP for energy, they are really trying to ready themselves to pivot to renewables
Schd, MSFT, Cost, V, PG, MO, O, WM
I have a seven figure portfolio, so I have a lot of individual stocks, but my largest three positions are Microsoft Nvidia, and Broadcom… Hovering just around 9 to 10% each for the first two, and around 6% forAVGO… I have some indexes like the QQQ and spy, but a large percentage are serious dividend stocks that may not grow a lot, but throw off income that I live off of while the overall portfolio is powering higher. I like the oils, so I own WMB, OKE, KMI, ENB, and AMLP… I have some closed end funds that return well above 6%, and still have a smattering of lower dividend yielding stocks that are growing, such as NTAP, HD, APO, COST, etc.
Thanks for including me in this one my friend! Nice work!
Thanks for taking the time man!
Thank you!!!
Greaat job guysss!!
MSFT, V, HD, PG, CVX, VICI, ABBV, AWR, AVGO, and ODFL. Interesting stocks.
Thanks!
It all depends on an individuals time horizon, but in a vacuum, I’d easily go with Visa as well & Costco.
Very true, can’t go wrong with those two man
Costco is great but when you are a beginning investor mayby a to high price to build a good position? What do you think of lowe's? But fcourse V all the way :)
I like LOW a lot too
The Dynamic Duo strikes again💪🏾
Heck yea - back in action!
Real talk. These two gentleman are doing good work 🫡🤝
Las 10 🔥❤️🔥🔥
1.MSFT
2.SCHD
3.WM
4.MCD
5.V
6.PG
7.NVDA
8.ABBV
9.O
10.LLY
Honorable mention to….CVX,XOM,AVGO,BLK,TPL and TXRH 🌪️❤️🔥
Very solid list my friend! 🙌
I like AVGO; it has quickly turned into my biggest individual holding by a wide margin despite trimming some shares. If I was younger, I'd consider Visa.
Nice! Yea your yield on cost with V would definitely need some time to grow
All great picks. I am heavy on Microsoft, Chevron, and PG, but I sold my large position in Broadcom back in February. Visa is the one I want to add more of -- it's in my daughter's portfolio, but not mine.
I’m with you, would love to have more Visa. Can never have too much Visa!
I own a lot of these mentions in my dividend portfolio but it’s only 25% of my entire portfolio. Recently sold 50% of my tsla holdings to put them into VOO and the dividend stocks. Will hold the remaining 50% for next 5-10 years for even greater return then sell most and put them into dividend stocks and more ETFs to retire.
While the dividend portion of my portfolio has more than 10 stocks, here are a few of my favorites. CAT, LMT, MO, VZ, DTE, DTM, MAIN, and BX. Of course, the largest position in my dividend portfolio is SCHD! I loaded up big time in these companies during the 2020 crash, so my yield at cost is nearly 6.5%. I retired last year, so dividend stocks account for about 30% of my portfolio, and when I start collecting SS in 3.6 years, SS and dividends will cover 100% of my expenses, which includes leisure costs. When my wife starts SS 3 years later, it's all extra! What you invest in can be determined bybwhat stage in life you are in! Great video!
Sounds like you have some great holdings there!
Great video Ryne & Prof G. Enjoy both of your channels and the info you both provide. Always insightful and interesting. Please be well.
Thank you my friend! I appreciate you tuning in 🙌
AVGO went crazy this week after their earnings announcement and next month’s 10 for 1 stock split. It’s by far our largest holding of a single stock. We bought it for an average cost of $317/share. We recently donated 20 shares and sold 10 more. But now our holdings are much more than when we unloaded those thirty shares over the past two months.
Oh wow, so you have quite the position!
@@rynewilliamsWell, we’re 68 years old, so we’ve had more years to build our wealth.
@@TheBeagle1956hey man seeing you’re 68 I wanted to ask a shorty question. I have just started my portfolio journey. I am 18. What lesson has changed your overall gains in the market. It can be anything
@TheBeagle1956
😮 Oh-WOW That's GREAT 👍 I WISH, I Knew You'll When You'll Started THIS Journey with AVGO😃
I'm Praying To Be Able To Afford Getting One, But Hoping For 10-Shares of AVGO‼️
I'm JUST NOW Learning About AVGO In It's Glory ❣️
Someone Was Supposedly Going To HELP Me Get Started In AVGO & Two Other Companies, By Donating Two Shares of Each, & Showing ME How To DCA Into More....‼️
But I Got Down Sick 😷 THEN They Got Sick 🤢 & It Never Happened 🥺😢😭‼️
So I'm Trying To Understand & Learn About Financial Literacy Stuff On My Own BUT, I Really Need Help with ALL of THIS ‼️
It's 😫🤯😵 Very VERY Scary 😢To Say The Least 😥🤦🤯
That’s hilarious how I subscribe to both of you and somehow you’re sharing content
We appreciate you tuning in!
I like a lot of the ones listed, but I take a safer approach with ETF’s. My core being SCHD/DGRO/VGT with my satellite holdings at 5% each like HDV(highly recommended) DHS and my lone stock of MO
Solid strategy my friend!
I love you mentioned AVGO. I’m still mad SCHD sold their position in it 😭. However, this was a great video and a great concept. Keep up all the great work!
Thank you!
I am 17 years old and plan to start a dividend portfolio when I turn 18. I am thinking about putting a little research into O, GAIN, JEPI, PFLT, SPYI, and thinking about PDI. Any suggestions or tips on these or different ones would be super helpful, but I know that if I do my research and start early, I will be thanking myself later on!
@@international_dividend Thank you for your input
Great idea getting started with investing! It sounds like you have quite a bit of high yielders there…I think some more emphasis on dividend growth would help balance that out
@@rynewilliams Thanks! I will surely do that, I will need to balance out those riskier high yielders for sure
I believe better advice for an investor that young is to stick to a majority of growth stocks. Then allocate more towards value/dividend in your 30s and 40s
Homedepot, Realty Income, Alphabet, Chevron, P&G, Apple, Microsoft, Agree Realty, Pepsico, Coca Cola
Solid picks!
This was a very solid video. Thank you both for the info.
Thanks Jason! Appreciate you tuning in 🙌
I prefer AWK over AWR. Bigger, better balance sheet, similar yield and 5 yr dividend CAGR
AWK is great!
I looked at the avgo chart today, it looks quite strong
Yea it’s been on fire!
It's interesting not to see people talking about JNJ anymore and leaning towards favouring ABBV more.
It kindda makes sense with all the legal battles JNJ is going through but me personally, I'll stick with JNJ and I see this as an opportunity to buy more, it's sort of a dip right now and I do see it picking up in the near future. It's not a company that could go under like that if u know anything at all about them
I still talk about JNJ quite a bit...I've been adding more to it the last few weeks
One thing everyone forgets is most plastics are made from petroleum and oil companies also have propane and natural gas which are used for home heating to power production - to charge the electric cars.
Very true! Thanks for adding that 👏
😮 Yeah, But Which Companies ⁉️
What NAMES Are You Going With In The Petroleum Oil Companies, Propane Natural Gas & Power Products Area's ⁉️
I Get What You're Saying, But, What's The NAMES Of The Companies Within Those Area's of Stocks & ETF 's⁉️❓❓❓
Interesting point on Broadcom stock, though I wonder why this was one of the stocks SCHD removed from its listing.
Its price ran up so much, which pushed the yield down to a point where it no longer met SCHD's criteria
@@rynewilliams 🤔 I Don't Get That 🤔 It Doesn't Make Sense 🤔.....‼️
I'm Thinking IF I Had AVGO & It Ran Up In Value PLUS It's Paying A High Dividend & Is A Solid Company 🤔 THEN That's A GREAT Thing 😳; But You Said SCHD Sold AVGO Out of There Basket🧺 WOW🤯 That's Mind-Blowing 🤯🤯🤯🤯‼️
I'm Even MORE Lost 😵 Now 😢 Than Before 🤦‼️
PLEASE HELP ME To Understand THIS ⁉️
I don't like MSFT as a great dividend stock, given that it's currently expensive. Great long term growth stock, though.
Fair enough!
Glad Broadcom got a nice little shoutout. Great video guys!
Thanks my friend!
Zoetis Would be also a Great pick! 🎉
I agree, beast of a company
I have 29 but if I only had to build around 10 these would make it to my portfolio-V, PLD, JNJ, ABBV, SCHD, LOW, JPM, UNP, APPL, O, AFL.
Solid picks!
AVGO payout ratio is too high. Personally I like TSM or TXN for technology
❤❤❤ My two favorite dividend guys! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
This one was great and really liked the list of stocks!!! I only hold a few of them.
Thank you man! Which ones do you have?
@@rynewilliams I only hold VICI, PG and V!! Planning on holding for a long time to see the compound!
I love this list! MSFT, AVGO, HD, V, and UNH are the top 5 best Dividend Stocks to buy and hold forever in my opinion
All of which have the best combination of Price Appreciation, Dividend Growth, and reliability on top of the fact that they’re just splendid companies with excellent fundamentals
Yea those are all very solid 👏
I like MA, MSFT, AVGO, and MCD for my dividend stocks.
You can’t go wrong with those 👌
Great video. But, if I bought the dividend portfolio in my non tax free account, I would have paid more in taxes. This would work best in a tax free account. Also, no one JUST buys VOO (or any SandP 500 etf), a lot of us buy a growth etf as well, which would increase the returns. Still, your video opened my eyes. Thanks.
Thanks for tuning in!
Great vid. Question: what's the advantage in buying a stock with a high price but low div yield? Like Visa?
The coumpounding dividend growth
Visa's underlying financials are really strong, which should hopefully result in consistently great returns and dividend growth over time
Not a bad portfolio at all, very well diversified I feel even with just 10 holdings, MY top 10 would be...
1. Mastercard (financials)
2. Microsoft (tech)
3. Google (tech)
4. Intuit (finaicials/tech)
5. MSCI (finaicials)
6. Xcel (for stability and utility exposure)
7. United Healthcare (Healthcare exposure)
8. Costco (retail)
9. Vici (reit)
10. Starbucks (consumer)
I had to redo this a few times, this is the list that I'm most okay with, theres a lot others I like that I'd like to fit in, but, for a top 10, trying to cover all bases, I feel this isn't bad.
Interesting ones man! Which ones did you end up taking off your list before coming up with this final version?
@@rynewilliams SPGI, Tractor Supply, Meta, Salesforce, Enbridge, and American Tower. I kept switching ones around, but finally came to what I felt was a solid top 10.
I think $O is a good complement to $VICI as well to round out the REITs part of your portfolio. Besides that, I think $AAPL is one you can't avoid keeping in mind their history of buybacks. I also think $SPYI is a good bet to keep some income flowing that will allow you to pour into these other stocks/ETFs.
I think if you’re retiring in 5 years or less or your retired Realty income is good, for cash now. If you have a long term over 10 years VICI is better, my personal opinion.
@@angelromero8076 I’m 29 and continue to build positions in both companies but they’re the only REITs I own. Regardless of age/retirement planning, I actually hold them because they’re a great hedge against the current state and when rates are lower and spending power is higher, both of these should see good price appreciation, not to mention, they both consistently increase dividends at a higher rate than inflation so perfectly OK holding at a younger age.
I think you’re right about O and AAPL. Both would’ve been worthy additions to the portfolio
American States Water looks great! But man I don't want my money anywhere near Cali.
T his seems to be a growth appreciation portfolio
I have no problem with having some growth stock/dividend payers like Microsoft visa in the portfolio… After all, they keep growing the portfolio overall while the heavy lifting is being done by the more serious dividend stocks… My question to the author of the video is, did you have to calculate the free cash flow of for example, visa yourself or did you have a proprietary source that you pay to get that information. The reason I ask is because it’s so difficult to figure out free cash flow financial statements stocks in my portfolio.
Thanks for the question, and for checking out the video. I got the FCF info from Seeking Alpha. If you search a stock there, you can view all the financial statements, including the Free Cash Flow
Thanks for answering my question… I’ve been thinking of adding seeking Alpha basic tier to my advisory services…
I’ve been using it for the last few years now and it’s been a really great platform
I have 40% of my profile still in Tbill that will mature in August/september and I have been 😮seriously debating if I should sell them off early vs keep until maturity and invest in EFTs or stocks instead vs continue autoroll. I will take your advise for investing in these stocks if I decide to go risky. My parents are retiring soon and our take home salary can cover monthly expenses. What would you recommend? Should I go more risky?
Unfortunately only you can decide how much risk you want to take on…I personally really like the idea of just investing in ETFs for the simplicity of it, but if you felt inclined to add individual companies you can certainly do that as well
Fepi, schd, sphd, usoi, svol
Ditched sphd and started picking up qdte say what you will but I've had price appreciation and weekly dividends of .23 or more every friday
I would have put OXLC and FTCO is your portfolios
Great duo, big fan of MSFT and VISA, personally I prefer less cyclical businesses to Chevron or HD and would go with Vici for a bigger yield 👍
@@michaelswami I meant that it was
Thank you!
Ryne I hope you thought about me when professor G added AVGO 😎
You know I did man!
Awesome video!! I'm sad no apple or wmt in the perfect 10 lol
Man both would certainly be fantastic additions!
Let's see, 40% SCHD, 40% Berkshire Hathaway (likely becomes a dividend payer), 10% Microsoft, 10% Amazon (likely to become a dividend payer). Gives you almost no overlap if any, all the best stocks that Buffet and Munger could find, and majority of the cloud computing ecosystem. Microsoft makes subscription money off of almost every company in the world, and Amazon makes money off almost every consumer.
Love it! That’d be a killer portfolio
I just started investing in a brokerage and roth a couple of months ago. Ive had a 401k but trying to invest more. There are quite a few good ones wish i had 10k to just dump into this but ill just keep at it.
Man I know what you mean! There are a few companies I’d really love to sink some money into right now
@@rynewilliams Which Ones, Which One's Are You Talking About, That You "Would You Like To Sink Some Money 💰 Into Right Now" ⁉️❓❓❓
What do you think about UNH as a dividend growth stock?
I think it's been a really solid dividend grower
Another Great Video guys, guess you spilled the beans on your next purchase Ryne thinking that highly of VICI lol
I do think VICI will be my next purchase 😂
I like your picks, I recently started investing and had a very similar selection, but I switched back to ETFs as from a taxation perspective especially for dividends, and being in Germany, ETFs are a much better investment, which make things really boring. I like looking for the hidden gem, but I gave up :( And the most frustrating part is that there is no good equivalent to SCHD over here. Dividend ETFs have a very high cost. Now I understand that the only investment of most people is MSCI World accumulating. You buy and switch off your brain until you retire.
As for the performance of your portfolio, you can thank MSFT, V and AVGO which performed exceptionally in the last few years. I hope that they will be able to keep the pace.
ODFL and HD have also crushed it
@@rynewilliams true :)
US going to restrict fees for credit card, not good to visa.
in parallel governments all around the world are pushing for digitalization
For me the top ten dividend stocks are: 1) Microsoft, 2) UNH, 3) HCA, 4) Walmart, 5) Waste management, 6) RSG, 7) URI, 8) PepsiCo, 9) PG, 10) Unilever
Great picks! You’d want to own both WM and RSG?
Thanks Ryne 😎, yes I love both companies and the waste management sector for me is one of the best sector in the world. Wm and RSG are the two biggest players but the sector is very fragmented so they can continue to do acquisitions and expand organically for many years to come…
Ryne says “The consumer staple company proctor and gamble”
Me putting on my Old spice deodorant 😮
Haha there you go 👏
i wonder if i should sell my J&J position and invest these funds in P&G
Not a bad idea, especially with all the lawsuits JNJ is dealing with…
What would make you want to sell JNJ?
😮 WHAT 🤯 Just Keep JNJ, & DCA Into P&G Every Pay-Period ‼️
I like ABBV, EPD, OKE, CNQ, ABR, XOM and SO.
Solid picks!
You had me with the Bad Brains tee!
Haha I love it! Bad brains are awesome
@@rynewilliams long live HR! @ 68 I still love them
@@bobleming5673 that’s awesome. I grew up listening to bands like blink-182 and New Found Glory, and as I’ve gotten older have gotten into the more classic punk bands like bad brains and black flag. The Ramones and the clash too…love them
Nice work guys,
Thanks so much!
Solid picks, got to add a few more to my Portfolio soon 🔥
Thanks man! Which ones are you thinking of adding?
@@rynewilliams I already have ABBV and PG, but I’m also interested in V and CVX. I didn’t even think about Broadcom until this video so I definitely want to look into that one as-well!
I already have ABBV and PG, but I’m also interested in Visa and and Chevron. Didn’t even think about Broadcom until this video so I’m definitely going to look into that as-well!
Are Broadcom chips only used in US?
No not just in the US
You making the swap from O focus to VICI?
Not necessarily. I really like both of them…I just wanted to talk about a different REIT other than O for a change
@@rynewilliams I like it, I have been eyeing it as well.
Schd, Msft, Apple, Mo, O, WM, WMT, PEP, VZ, PG, Nvida, SPY, LLY,
Nice ones!
@@rynewilliams I have more, these are just the ones I remember. Buying more Nvidia. Just bought SMH. I am bullish and am old so my time on earth is not long. I have nothing to lose. I bought AMAZON four months ago.
Ryne looks like Eriksen
That shirt wins.
Heck yea, thank you!
Hi, I'm in South Africa can you recommend a good broker in Usa
Maybe look into something like interactive brokers. I think they might be in South Africa, but I’m not 100% on that
You can try Charles Schwab. Ask them how you can trade from Africa. I had followed IBKR stock for a while. I think this company trade internationaly. Please do careful research. So much scam. Charles Schwab is very big trading company in the US. They will guide you. Good luck!
Keep going Ryne
You too Norman!
MSFT, V, ABBV, AVGO, ODFL are good, HD, VICI are also okay, but PG? Guys, companies like Proctor and Gamble, Coca Cola are done growing. They are for old folks like me. You guys are young with young audience so I am not sure PG is a great choice. (BTW, I own PG myself.)
Thanks for sharing 👍
CAT, PG, V, JNJ, HD
Love those. CAT just had a really nice dividend raise
I don't have $PG 😂😂
To each their own, right gents??
Haha true that my friend!
APPLAUSE!!!!!!
Thank you!
😄
Thanks for tuning in!
Stop the cap that its just happens with those picks 🤣😂
When did anyone say that?
RRSP- schd, Schg, xaw, Vfv, Vz, o, Jepi, googl, cvs. TFSA- atd, bce, bep.un, BNS, Sru.un, T, Trp. What do you think? Canadian accounts
I’m not too familiar with some of those holdings, but the ones I recognize; look pretty solid!
Hey Ryne this is aniketh from uk a great following you person I started a investment just a month ago with your help I reached 550 dollars I own a little of jnj, groy, bit, jpm, hrzn, obdc,pg thank you 🎉
Great job getting started man! Keep climbing 👏
