      @@justicelucas1116 Yeah right there's always two people flying the plane. Also he probably knows how to fly/enter commands/talk to ATC down to muscle memory so even after three drinks and a beer it's unlikely he'd mess up bad enough to cause a serious accident. Flying a plane isn't like driving in that there's much fewer situations where a split second decision is the difference between life and death. Windy landings might be sketchy though, that does look like it takes a lot of precision.

      @DefinitelyNotGeorge there's only 250k pilots in the world, and keep in mind most planes are carrying at least 200 people, so having only 1 drunk pilot a year is dangerous enough. and those are just the ones who get caught. my guess is because almost all of piloting is controlled by autopilot, even landing and takeoff require little work from the pilot, plus the cost of rescheduling a flight is such a pain and expensive for both the airline and passenger, that they intentionally let pilots fly drunk

    Breathalyzer for every pilot before any flight. End of story.
    UPDATE: I still stand firm on my perspective. Why are we comparing daily drivers to commercial pilots? Two different situations especially when you're not behind the wheel... My point was, we need to have some sort of mitigation when there is no other way for the contingency of saving YOURSELF. Yes, we need to check for integrity and the only innocent or moral way of doing so is/are breathalyzer(s). How about for "during flights" you may ask. Each flight has a co-pilot. He/she would HOPE will attempt or take charge. What blows my mind is how, how many people disagree or complain about why it's necessary. If an occurrence were to happen and it was the cause, you would hope for this change. Why do people only act when an instance happens. If there is a probability or risk, we should prevent or reduce its odds.

    • @janelbbuck
      @janelbbuck 5 років тому +21

      Em Gee I don’t think it’s ridiculous. People pay a lot to get on planes it’s a business, these pilots are there to do a job like the rest of us working adults. I’d also say bus drivers should get the same treatment. They’re both under companies that are able to record such things with more ease. Look I’m not saying riding a plane is safer or more dangerous. Frankly I do not care. But if regulating it is possible, then why the heck not. Hell, if having a breathalyzer test for every American driving a car was possible I’d agree with ya there too.

    • @lostnetwork5717
      @lostnetwork5717 3 роки тому +9

      stats show that there are more bus and train accidents caused by drink driving so the law would have to require them todo the breath check first and that would be unreasonable but unfortunatly politics would argue this and it would never happen. the only chance for this happening is if the air ports put into policy that pilots are to be drink and drug tested before takeoff and maybe the fcc could push this as well but then the pilots union is going to get into the way and them does this apply to smaller airports where planes land and take off with no personal onsite at all. also then theres constitution stuff where your presumed inoccent until guilty and some may argue that requiring everyone todo this would be like saying they all drunks and guilty of drink driving/flying .. operating a vehicle under the influence. basically the crap shoot that these basic things bring to politics is what stops progress. and trust im in agreement on the dink test for these large comercial flights and maybe even small charter planes as well. but life brings fights and arguements and nothing ends up happening. it will take thousands to die before action is taken for any issue. my prayers and hopes for the future is we start preventing things instead of fixing things.

They could install one in the cockpit and have it require a test prior to starting the engine, throw a camera in the cockpit as well to make sure they’re doing it correctly and also to observe any gross negligence and it can be all done for less than $150-$200 per plane, probably less if the software was already in place

      Rubies and Jaspers Jasper, just some facts, your actually most likely going to just walk away alive in a plane crash, it’s proved by statistics of plane crashes. Second, most accidents happen in landing or takeoff. So your not going to plummet 40k feet. Third your most likely going to get something happen to you in the airport rather than crash, but you could have phobias etc so it’s not your choice

    I was a flight attendant back in the day when security checks were pretty casual for airline personnel. On layovers, some pilots would hang out in the hotel bars, getting drunk, rowdy, and inappropriate. They may not have been drunk on the flight next day, but they were certainly extremely hungover. Looking back, the level of professionalism was awful, but stewardesses, as we were called, had no power to curb their behavior. Not all of them were like this, but enough to make the job difficult.

      Residues from alcohol remain in your system 24-48-72 hours and are detectible via a urine sample. Chemically, alcohol sometimes easily takes 8-12 hours to be flushed entirely by your body. If you stop drinking at 2 am and go to work at 9 am...get my point ? So any hangover still has evidence of some sort of alcohol within your body. This is why the cure many times is the hair of the dog that bit me, which only puts MORE alcohol into the body.@@azula3906

    Oh my goodness... This reminds me of a flight I took years ago.
    I was going up to my hotel room, carrying some ice...
    These pilots and stewardesses entered the elevator, the smell of alcohol was very strong...
    Before getting to my floor, they left the elevator, only one pilot stayed with me... he was drunk!
    He asked them to continue partying in their hotel rooms. They told him, no, we see you tomorrow morning.
    The moment he noticed I had ice, he asked where was I having a party! I don’t think he liked my answer: this is for baby bottle!
    One time landing in Florida for a family vacation, I couldn’t believe how drunk, loud a couple were, drinking the whole flight. Drunk, loud, and worse, with a little baby... as a mom, I was very concerned with their behavior while traveling drunk with a few months old baby!
    The airport guards stopped them when they were leaving the airport!

    • @roccop3760

      Bhq that’s not true. Even if the pilots use autopilot the whole time they’re still required to work the auto pilot I.e. set heading, speed, altitude etc. they’re also in constant contact with atc and performing system checks. Autopilot wouldn’t work if there wasn’t a pilot to monitor it
