I've been looking for a budget tent (self supporting) for my upcoming adventure and it has come down between the
    Naturehike Cloud Peak 2
    collinsoutdoor...
    or
    Naturehike Star River 2
    collinsoutdoor...
Both of these tents will serve well wild camping, moto camping or up on a hillside.
This isn't a budget hiking tent review but a first look and comparison between the two.
I was impressed with the quality and ease of pitching. They are both spacious and will allow me to cook in the vestibule. the only question is which one do I take on the #tinybiketour .

Star river would be my choice. Can always turn two asda trollies upside down and tie the door guy outs to them!! Then again I need more length (in more ways than one) so I've always preferred that one. It's on my list 👍

I appreciate the comparison they're both close, personally i'd go with the Star River 2 due to the fact that you can actually star gaze on a clear night.

SR2 owner and fanboi. Love it. Its a genuine 2 person tent with a nice square footprint for 2 with 2 full size square mats (not mummy). Would love it in more stealth covers. Yes its easier to pitch inner first, but can be done outer first with the footprint. Easy to spend time in with the head room if you have to. Doors opening both ways - and both sides all add to flexibility. You do definitely know when the sun is up !!. Absolutely love it for wild camping with 1 of the kids....For a 1 person trip.....would take my Southern Cross 1 :)

    Big up Naturehike!
Loving my cloud up 2, had it 4 years now. £71 by some quirk of amazon.
We all know they're knock off MSRs, but 3 for the price of 1 is a no brainer.
i'm a bit 50 50 on those 2, but if i had to choose, i'd have the star river.
Everyone says pitching mesh first in the rain will be tricky. Only if it was proper chucking it down, iv'e done mesh first in light rain and only had a few spots inside.
In theory you could pitch outer first using the footprint, but it would be a bit of a faff, and most likely contain swearing.
You also have the option of mesh only if you're confident of the weather , which is nice to try on a clear night.
    Good luck

Cloud peak 2 is classic all rounder well tried and tested , blends in nicely , Star River is often overlooked being based on the Copper Spur it’s a cracking tent pitches tight too, if weight is a concern Cloud up 2 10D is half the weight! I have one 🤟 nice viddy dude 😎

Either way you go, you'll have a place to sleep. Me, I don't set out to go camp or tour with the intent of spending 16 hours inside. It's a shelter from the elements and a spot to lay down for the night. If you prefer not to be obvious to a passerby and a nice vestibule, the Cloud 2 seems a good choice, if you enjoy a bright morning and door options, Star River. As long as your sleeping pad doesn't deflate, you'll probably be happy regardless.

Hi Nobby, don’t know if I mentioned that when you put the poles in,put the pole that hooks to the zipper side of the door on last so it’s ontop,it makes the tent a bit more tought,,and also when you’ve clipped the poles into the bottom holes just lift all 3 poles up and temporarily clip them all together with a big carabiner,,easier to clip together,,also just tie a little bit of string to the top hat and also a piece to the tent so you always know which way round the top hat fits,,,,I got some good ideas off I think he’s called the Yorkshire lad,,I think🤔🤔

I'd take the Cloud Peak on the bike as it's self-standing and the weight won't matter. The other tent looks better for backpacking into the hills in the summer heat. Naturehike makes some decent budget tents. I've got an Opulas 2 which is great for cycle trips as I can fit my cycle into the porch, and I use a Cloudwing 2 for really hot weather as it has a really good design for allowing air flow in. Both tents cost me a smidge over 100 notes each. A bargain compared to expensive brands.

Nice review, the cloud peak 2 was the 2nd tent I bought, its not bad tbh, but I've just invested in the Terra nova pioneer 2, only because it has one less pole to faff around with and it does say it can be a 4 season tent, it's a good tent and I got it with the footprint for 356 quid, I think it's just me, but I need a pop up tent as my patience isn't the best maybe my age (51) haha. But I found the the OEX boncat 1 to be ok, better and lighter than most 2 man tents, though a bit restricted, anyway nice vid and thanks for sharing 👍

For someone who aint into tents that was one of the better reviews/overview I have seen for quite some time, both are cracking tents for the money and weight ratio...............tricky decision as they both fit your criteria, but you seemed happier with the star-river. I have heard the ''lid'' on the cloud peak is really ''flappy'' in the wind and keeps you awake and seeing as your trip is a long one its bound to be windy at some point and it is a magnet for drones lol........so on that basis i'd take the star-river.............just as a sidenote I have heard good things about the naturehike cloud-up 2(20D version is much lighter)...........ATB......Lee.......Stu.....👌👍

I agree Lee, y’cant have 100% footprint in a tent, y’get all precious about muddy gear, cooking and spills….. hassle you don’t need. I’d sew that small gouge in the mesh if I was you…. Nail polish & glues are likely to bind with everything else in the tent bag when it’s all squashed up & left in a cupboard for months on end in a warm cupboard😧.

I have heard mixed reviews on these tents. Some people like them and some were very disappointed. Recently a well-known person here on yt talked about a tent from naturehike. When he went to set it up the first time it was already broken. When he contacted them, they basically said... That's too bad, good luck with that. No offer to repair or replace. In my opinion, customer service & warranty are as important a quality.
I have been looking for a lightweight tent for some hiking this summer. I do have a 1-man bivy style tent that weighs about 1 1/2lbs less than these two tents but wanted something with a little more room.
I recently purchased a new Litefighter 1 military tent and these tents shown here weigh as much as it does. You can also setup the groundsheet & fly first, so your tent doesn't get wet during rain. They call this configuration "The Hasty Hooch".
That being said, it looks like you are one of the lucky ones who got two good tents. I like the color and the fact that you don't need tent stakes for the green one but I am not a fan of tents with a quarter fly and it is fairly heavy. The other tent is lighter, has much more mesh for ventilation and has a full fly but the color is going to let sunlight in and you will need a tent peg or two. You could use longer heavy duty stakes or attach the stakes, lay them flat and put a rock (or rocks) on them to hold them in place.
Anyway, sorry for writing a book lol Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.

3 problems with the green Peak 2 from what I have looked at on the internet.
Its heavier and bigger which is a problem on a bike. If you keep saying, "its only half a kilo", it ends up 5 kilo's over your entire load.
But the real killer is that the Peak has half the water proof on the fly as the grey Star River. The Star River comes in a variety of colors including the same green as the Peak in this video. But again, the green has less water proof.
So if you never camp in rain who cares........but staying dry is a big reason to load the Peak tent on the bike. BBrrrrmmmmm

Hi thanks for the video I have been researching tents for what seems like months and have got it down to these two! Which would you recommend for backpacking? Does the star river sway it because of the weight? I’m a 62kg female and I’ll be travelling with my 11 year old daughter so pack weight is a definite concern! I like the dark green of the CP though. How did you find the star river on a morning? Is it really bright in there when the sun comes up and how do you combat that if so? Thank you 😊

Thank you, I wouldn’t go out in terrible weather, late spring, summer and early autumn I think. Mainly due to safety concerns and hours of daylight to get to our next campsite as a women and a girl alone. The Lanshan looks very tight on space, so I think I’ll go for the star river and shed a bit of weight by getting rid of some of the bags and maybe the footprint of the weather is forecast fine . Thank you 😊
