I was at msg for both of those nights standing in the floor sections and the tone was the best I’ve ever heard live. It was so thick and sustainy but crystal clear at the same time.
@@erikhartley2494 he wasn’t using the Dumble for this one. He was using the Sterling Sig. Your right tho as someone that also owns a 004 style circuit that was built by Bill Krinard they’re pretty damn close to the real SSS 004
@@tonyz4292 002 & 004, it’s got elements of 004 but the preamp has a cathode follower tube of the 002, the new Sterling is an updated and arguably better amp. According to Two-Rock it can do everything the old Sterling can and more
I actually think his current tone is the best ever. His classic “Trio” tone, although incredible, I always thought was just a hair too murky. I feel like his tone is slightly more crystalline nowadays.
I don’t know that I’ve ever heard guitar tone better than that WTLI live recording. So many fantastic tones in that DVD. That Bold as Love solo tone is a perfect combination of subtle cleans and overdrive. It manages to sound both hollow and full at the same time.
Dude his tone for the sob rock tour was insane, I personally like it more than the trio tone, but not more than the WTLI tone. Yeah those two are similar but they’re also different
Yes, the original sterling signature was based on sss 004, the teal one henry kaiser owned. The new silver signature uses a cathode follower and is based more on sss 002 the black and silver one john owns.

That’s the Dumble for ya. The high headroom with pedals for gain is a big part of why his tone is so clear.
Me too😊

My friends were at this show and I remember how jealous I was to hear that he performed continuum front to back

Great video, Justin. Keep it up.
He did acquire SSS 002 during the recording of continuum. He said the second half was recorded with it so maybe that was intentional as well 🤔
great video as always
Thx justin!
face: melted.
Is there a tone difference between the new silver sterling And the sterling sig?

I wish he'd bring back the strat to go with it.
Pretty sure Ceriatone makes this model
