I realise that I didn't explain what diesel bug is. There's a good explanation of it in the following link, and the issue with it is that if it grows in your boat fuel tank, it will eventually block your fuel filters, can damage your fuel pump and injectors and will ultimately stop the boat from running. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microbial_contamination_of_diesel_fuel

One of the reasons bigger boats have fuel polishers.

Maryanne looked stunning in her new hair dew. Along with diesel bug inhibitor I always add about a pint of 96% Ethanol to mix the water in the tank cause by condensation. In a diesel engine what isn't used from the pump to the injectors is returned at high temperature into the diesel tank. When the heated fuel cools it is replaced by high moister content air because diesel expand when heated and contracts when cold, letting the outside air enter the tank using the vent tube. This happens after a day of use and the boat sits overnight. Small amounts of water go to the bottom of the diesel tank and can clog and stop your engine if not treated. About a pint of Ethanol to every 100 liters when refueling your boat will allow the Ethanol to mix the water into the diesel without clogging the filter. If you have a fuel polisher it does this without the Ethanol. Just a trick I learned as a teenager working on a commercial fishing boat on the US West Coast.

Thanks Nick these videos are just excellent and show the reality of boating in the UK, down to the last detail. AQUAHOLIC to be confirmed! Bought it at Penton Hook Marina but hoping to keep it somewhere on the Thames until next summer when I hope to take it across the Channel. It needs a lot of work to get it seaworthy and not just a gin palace!

Another great video! It would be lovely to have your wife with you on a boat tour and for her to give her perspective. Such as having her do the interior and you covering the exterior and engine room and ending with both of you giving final comments.
And what an ideal music choice. As we're currently locked down totally here with a curfew and a 5km travel limit, I'll just enjoy cruising vicariously. Still need the video of the scones, jam and clotted cream on the aft deck though.
Love it! I filled boats for 5 years and sometimes it's actually quite a challenge to even get the fuel into some boats either due to dumb filler tube design or STUPID spiders getting in the relief valves
True, about the restricted filler nozzles, let the air escape as well by pulling the nozzle out of the filler once in a while.
Also ,blast that damn spider into oblivion!!!!!!!

Thanks for showing us the fuelling process. I was going to ask you if you would consider doing a series of videos on the practicalities of running a boat such as use of the vhf radio and what is the process of contacting the harbour to see if they have a berth, how much that would cost. Even emptieng the loo etc.

i like these videos more of your own boat than that of the super yachts you review as your boat is kept in great condition and it's more realistic ... super yachts are for the mega rich ... you would need to win the euro millions to buy one .... and the reality is you can pop your yacht/boat in any Marina you want without any problems

Love all your vids but particularly trips out with you and yours on water and land - behind the scenes is great as was the very extravagant family charter you shared with us thank you. Undoubtedly the super yacht tours are fascinating but reveal the boring transitory life led by many of the very wealthy poor things - makes me feel lucky to be born without such problems. Please keep doing these videos they are inspiring in these difficult times.

I once knew this guy who owned a 180’ oceanfast......every time he fueled his boat, it cost $50,000. And that was back in the late ‘90’s. It’s probably twice that amount today. Crazy $hit!
Oceanfast, world class quality from western Australia, the company went broke, after building Australian pro golfer Greg Normans 210' ft. Aussie Rules ,at the time 2000 it cost $50million a.u.d.,I'm going to find the story on Wikipedia.

Would be good to see how much your fuel cost and what a day out like this would average in fuel. I know you have been through costs before but this would be good info for people looking to get a boat
Fuel was about £185 worth. We probably used about £10 of fuel that day.
I should imagine it was £183.48p how far that will take you I don't know. It probably isn't that far, in my car that would take me about 1,500 miles. Probably not that far in a boat though.
