victoriamansion.org/
Victoria Mansion is a much-loved Portland landmark, but its significance extends far beyond Maine. Distinguished for its architecture and its extraordinary original interiors, it is among the most important historic homes of the nineteenth century anywhere in the nation. As an organization, our mission is to conserve, maintain, and restore this one-of-a-kind property and share its history with the public.
Thank you for a nice tour and wonderful stories of this home and it’s occupants. I am so HAPPY, that this glorious home was not demolished for a gas station to be built. This happen way to often here in America, they demolish to many BEAUTIFUL homes with such craftsmanship and history.. it makes me sick that so many do not care about preserving these spectacular homes. ❤️
90% original furnishings! Amazing. I do so love old homes. I'm so pleased it's mostly all original to it's time
thank you for the great tour, always wanted to see the house. Grandfather took me by in the 60's before it was open to the public. My family has been in Maine since early 1700 if not before, i think before. We are all from the Winthrop area. grandpa had a potato farm and worked on the railroad, he retired in about 1965 or so. Long time residents of Maine.
Loved this. I'm from the UK and I love seeing the old houses in the US.
To think an architectural masterpiece such as this was almost demolished. Salute to all the people conserving this gem. Thank you Mr Thomas Johnson and Dr Meuser for transporting me back to an era gone by and learned so much from this one video than many other videos I've watched regarding Victorian homes. Keep educating us 👍
I've seen this home a number of times while visiting Portland.. The photos simply don't do it justice. It is truly a well-preserved work of art. Class act gift shop too. See if it you can.. it's worth the trip!
So glad to see this jewel house well restored for the future generations to see and appreciate... The beauty of true art!
What a fabulous video tour! I own an 1889 Victorian home (in California) and am enthralled with the magnificence of the Victorian Museum/home you shared.
I love the history of this beautiful home and that you are breathing new life into this historical treasure.
This is TRULY incredible! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this! I’m just blown away! Thank you!
Excellent tour. This gentleman explains the history of this home beautifully. Definitely on my bucket list.
What a gorgeous piece of architectural history . I was amazed at the beautiful craftsmanship in each room . So glad it is being beautifully restored.
I can’t believe this beautiful piece of history was almost demolished for a gas station!!
This is such a great video, thank you
Absolutely great tour of a priceless gorgeous house. Thank you!
This is a wonderful tour. I love seeing these old buildings and hearing the storied pasts they hold!
I’m no historical academician by any means but this is truly truly extraordinary. Thank you for sharing!
A stunning home and superbly informative narration by Executive Director Thomas Johnson. His expertise, enthusiasm, and reverence regarding his stewardship of this important and unique American landmark home will help ensure that it continues to educate and impress visitors well into the future. Our American heritage is worth honoring and preserving indeed.
Well said!
Thank You very much Michael Bergstein for providing the name of our guide.. Mr. Johnsons name should be included in description. He is an excellent guide!

I would have loved to have been there watching these victorian houses getting built. It's a true art form.
The home is incredible...the story even more so...leaving much to the imagination. Thank you.
I love mansion tours, and you give a most fantastic one! It is a really authentic house. what a delicious gem, and a really great house to tour. Thank you!
I live next door! You should see it all decked at Christmas! Maybe they can make a video to share next year??
you so lucky to live so close to a beautiful piece of architectural history.
@@elisecooper1942 The mirror they have covered for room renovations is a diamond dust backed mirror, a process where silver was melted and used to cover the backside of a piece of glass. ... In this process the mercury evaporated leaving the silver. So gorgeous!
Here is a pic!

@@foots-qt4pk omg I saw the Christmas photos online.. so stunning and breathtaking!
@@JessikaJay16 Every year they have a different decor done by local artisans. They each get a room to decorate so it is always a new experience!
@@foots-qt4pk wow! Awesome!! Hope it reopens soon so I can visit! 😍
Wow! A Carriage stepping stone is still on the street.
This was an amazing tour. Great encapsulation of the home's unique qualities/architecture along with the history of the estate. Ninety per cent is an admirable amount when
considering the original furnishings as part of the collection. That is very rare nowadays when it comes to preserving historical residences. Thanks so very much! Cheers,
Darryl
I'm impressed with the house and with Mr. Toms vocabulary and descriptors of the house he used. This was a fascinating tour. Thank you!
I enjoyed the tour and lecture. I just wish they’d used photographic equipment that allowed for better close-ups. It was kinda like trying to see things up close without your glasses on.
Plus there was so much excessive motion of the camera, that I was lightly sea sick by the end of this otherwise fabulous video....
Thank you for sharing the history of the home and the people that live there. The home is very beautiful . I love every minute of this video.
I love history. I love seeing old homes preserved.
Very beautiful home. Thanks for sharing blessings
This house is amazing. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing! 😊
Magnificent home and a fabulous presentation but this really should be re-filmed in high definition
Wow wow wow! What a treasure, thank you for saving her!
WOW. What a fantastic home Thanks for the tour
Amazingly beautiful house. So very glad it has survived and is being restored. Wonderful detailed presentation and camera work. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Just watched this fantastic documentary. Well done Victoria House and a huge thank you sir for your excellent guided tour. I am so grateful everything is not being torn down or vandalized in our country.
Fantastic video, we cannot thank you enough for sharing this historical information. God bless 🙏
How absolutely wonderful lunch the house but the renovation project and how meticulous now thorough it's been in the fact that it's such a rare surviving relic of the past is just incredible I'm horribly impressed at everything that's being done and the house itself and would love to participate and restoring it with such an meticulous I it's wonderful to see something like that happening!!
Wow. Your command over the language and the way you present... wonderful, Sir.
Thank you for making this video. It was so comprehensive! I loved it.
I Applaud you Ryan for the excellent job of Camera work in getting all the details not of just the large but of the small Graphics of the Designs and Details.. I just loved this Tour ..I sure hope there will be more to come !!!! Thank you Ryan
Thanks for the positive comment, Deborah. My name is Tom not Ryan, however. This video was a joy to make. We are lucky to have this amazing gem in Portland.
What a fantastic snapshot in time!! Love it
Thank you! We missed our annual trip to Maine this year. Definitely would love to visit the house in September 2021. Portland is a city we have not explored much of. Looking forward to new adventures 😊.
Amazing! I watched the whole thing! What a wonderful tour 😍! Thank you!
This is really wonderfully done. You’ve got a great delivery style and you’ve hit all the interesting highlights that I enjoy seeing. Please do more videos!
AWESOME JOB!! What a treasure.
Thank you, I really enjoyed this video. I'll be watching it again.
Excellent! Very enjoyable tour.
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you. This was lovely, but I can't help be disappointed that you didn't show us the kitchen. I love seeing old kitchens.
This was such an EXCELLENT experience!
While my daughter was attending UNE Dental School I took a tour of this incredible house with my granddaughter’s school class. It was a wonderful tour for the children, but I wanted to know SO much more and to spend time perusing detail. Alas, that did not happen. One day, I hope to attend an event there during the holidays, or perhaps just take a tour with more time allotted as experienced here. As mentioned in the tour, the visual environment is so rich it is difficult to notice particulars in just one visit, or even during several years of restoration efforts. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video, all who were involved. I would like to know where Olive went when she left the house. I don’t think that was mentioned. I share the opinion of the gentleman, he was likely spot on about the reasons she left the house ‘as is’ once her husband died. She did not appear remotely contented in the image shown, nothing like the painting.
When Olive sold the house, she moved to the Falmouth Hotel in downtown Portland.
TRUE Craftsman 💖
I absolutely loved this tour/video. I would love to visit this mansion. The history is amazing. This gentleman is so knowledgeable and makes you feel the history.
Victorian houses are unique. No replica!
The ceiling is amazing. You explain everything so well.
Thats a soul home with all the warmth dressed with good taste.
Bless conservationists like you. Thank you for your dedication.
I thoroughly enjoyed this it is a beautiful beautiful home you are doing such a great job I really appreciate you for that well God bless and stay safe and thank you for showing us the very very top I also really loved your stories
EXCELLENT!!!😍THANK YOU!!!
Beauitful Home, Wonderfully Narrative. Unscripted an if it was Scripted He told it Beauitfully. Forgive my rustic back woods sayings but I absoutly Loved his way of telling us about the House and Passion he has for helping Restore the Place is fabulous. Thank you Sir for giving us this Wonderful tour.
I really enjoyes this, thank you
Thank you so much for this very detailed tour, especially during COVID. Amazing historical home, real palace quality!
I would love to visit this mansion some day!
You just gotta love these Italianate mansions. I took some ideas from this one for mine!
I love these videos.
What a wonderful presentation!
I stopped the video because of the poor quality of the video, the presenter Tom Johnson did a marvelous job that alone deserves better video quality.
I almost stopped watching, as I felt sea sick..... but I was compelled to watch it any way.....
Absolutely amazing. Thank you!
Loved this video tour, Dr. Meuser. You are so very knowledgeable regarding the architecture & furnishings of the time. Also sympathetic to Olive's position in her marriage. I do wonder where the children slept as you said the home only has 2 bedrooms. Or did I misunderstand?
This was great and informative. As an Artist I eat up all the details that you mentioned.
Fantastic !!! Thank you very much !!!
Very well done Bravo!!
What a lovely tour, thank you!
Awesome video! Very informative. I hope you release more videos Sir.
Excellent tour.
This is so beautiful haunted Manson,I love IT😉I d like so much to live here
Where's the rest of the video? Beautiful restoration, and our tour guide was very informative, and interesting. I hope the second video arrives soon.
Well done! Very interesting. Thank you.
Absolutely fantastic!!
Wonderful.
Wonderful, thank you.
I appreciate the presentors expertise and knowledge throughout this tour. The camera work and lighting makes it feel like this was taken on an old vhs recorder. Should have had a professional film this.
Thank you for saving the history!
What a great video! Thanks!
Me ha gustado mucho el video. Una edificación muy interesante y muy bien explicado en el tour de visita. Enhorabuena por la labor de preservación y recuperación que están haciendo. Soy un fan de la epica victoriana. Saludos desde España.
Wonderful tour, thank you
My home city, I love this beautiful home, I now live in Cincinnati Ohio
Great.... very enjoyable viewing thankyou.
Superb, thank you so much!
It's such a phantastic video and narration. A bit sad that it'snot uploaded in better quality. The details sadly get lost a bit. But again: Great video!
Beautiful! Thanks
Very good and informative video!
The jittery camera work and the poor lighting make this a difficult viewing . More of the history of the family and the city in which they lived at the beginning of the video would have added interest to the narrative. That said, I would imagine its a great place to visit
I totally agree, I felt sea sick by the end of the video because of all the camera motion and poor focus. But otherwise a great tour....
Ruggles Sylvester Morse. What a fabulous name !!
They almost let this place go to ruin. Its hard to believe but I cant get over this. It would be a crime to not fix this home and restored this house no matter what. PORTLAND get it together and dont let this home go to hell. FIND THE MONEY NO MATTER WHAT
ONE of the 50 greatest rooms? You mean there are greater? I'd like to see that.
Nice to see a carpet from Glasgow (it's pronounced Glas-go, I'm Glaswegian 😊) wonderful tour
Why are we spending so much time looking at the presenter rather than the house !
Thank you.
when he's talking about the broken skylight the pillar to his right looks broken & glued back together
