Hi, I'd like to know if you have an advice or if there's some precaution to take when heat-molding near screw holes... Just got the FR3 310 and rolled approx. 50 km (3hrs in two sessions). My right foot arch definitely suffers from the ankle strap screw pointing in, and around this particular area. Man did it hurt after my last run (33km), had to walk on the heelfor the rest of the day. Rest of the skate is perfect though, when comparing to my old 1998 K2 fitness skates :) I really like the fit in general, the more forward stance and the speed that it generates! Excellent video! I just have a quick question. This only apply to a specific boot or any hardshell boot will work? I just got a Powerslide Next 90 and got pain below the inner ankle (around Navicular bone) on both side. I did heat mold the inline twice already and been skating on these for 5-6 times already but the pain are still there :(
Im insanely flat-footed. I got new ABX v1 valos recently just the boot size 12 (I'm size 11) walking around in just the boot for hours doing test jumps to test the impact felt fine. Took them out to skate (crusing) and after like 10 minutes it was killing my feet right in the area where my arc should be. I used the same liner that Ive been using for years. Do you think heat molding would solve this? Or is this boot not going to work for me? btw, love the channel, love the content , nice to see this sport coming back
It might work but an arch is a hard thing to work out because it is quite a big area. You could work it a little at a time to see if it works. It's hard to say without seeing your feet.
Hey! Thank you for this video! Do you know what temperature (°C/°F) is necessary? I found some small devices which heat up to 200°C (about 390°F) - is this enough?

So, I Just ordered a set of skates that have heat moldable liners, Should I heat mold the liners 1st thing? OR should I put some hours in them before heat molding them. and either or. should I mold my skate 1st or the liner 1st?
Nice video, but i have a doubt, blisters appear because there is friction, movement between sock and liner or and boot shell, if we enlarge this gap by heat moulding, the gap will increase and then movement and friction and blisters, is my statement correct? Thanks and regards
Blisters can and will happen where there is friction yes. Heat molding is to relive pressure points not to stop blisters. Blisters should go away over time. If you continue to get blisters you may have to big a shell.
@@ThirtyandRollin i have use my skates for two days only, and i got a blister in the inner side of my left foot. Maybe is to early to mould the boot? Thanks again 🙌🙌🙌
Got a pair of next 90s, with the my fit spc liners in them. My inside left ankle has become quite a nuisance in terms of pain. I can get out about 7 miles before my ankle starts to hurt(throbb8ng at thay point). I've just molded the boots in the affected area to the best of my knowledge. Will this make the pain dissappear or will it just be enough to cause little if any discomfort. I have to wait a few days now to see if it's enough as my ankle is pretty painful as of right now. And before you bring up stride, my stride is pretty tuned in. I'm also wondering is maybe the skate is just too big and I need a bigger liner to fill in the spots where there's excessive play.
Yes wait for your ankle to fully recover and then try the skate again post heat molding. You may still feel a slight discomfort for longer skates but shouldn't hurt at all.
Great content man! After quite a lot of research and searching online, i finally found the Twister Edge X in my size. For shoes i usually wear between 44,5 and 45 and for the skates i got 45 since they didn't have 45,5 in stock anywhere. My only worry is that my foot is a bit wide and I'm really hoping they would fit relatively comfortably without too many heatpoints. In a local store i tried size 45 Roces Vidi, the 4x90 ones, and they did fit absolutely perfectly from the get go. With them people again were advertising to go a size bigger. I know they are different types of skates but their boot didn't seem that wide. Hopefully the Twister Edge X fits almost as good without the necessity to use the heat gun too much. They seem like the absolutely perfect skates for my needs.
Ya the Twisters are narrow but a great skate. I hope they work for your foot! Sizing up on a narrow boot doesn't help that much. With skates it's more about shape and which skates fit your feet correctly.
I got the same problem with twister edge x, dope looking skates but had to order a pair of myfit second skin liners cos of the pressure points there was some relief but will do another few more hours for the break in and consider heat molding an option! They def have a narrow shell, tried the FR1 80 and almost cried cos it was perfect for wider feet
@@willsmooth8826 Didn’t try the Twister Edge, but just got a pair of FR 2’s. They run about 1 size small, but they are wide, in particular in the area where the ball of your foot is.
Good advice in this video. Did you have to do this to your Twisters? I had a pair of Twisters about 4 years ago and loved them but man they were narrow! I had to do this to a pair of my Flying Eagle freeskates a couple years ago.
Very good question. You have to heat the shell from inside. Much harder but doable. Just be careful not to touch the metal part of the heat gun to the shell.
Have you tried this with the roces egos you reviewed a little bit ago? I got them (prior to seeing your video) and theyre great skates but i think theres a pressure point by my ankle thats so annoying
Excellent video! I just have a quick question. I noticed you placed a square of tape on an area where two different parts of the hard boot will be rubbing on each other (3:49). I have a similar problem with my Maxxum edge 90 but in the inner malleolus. Do you think that just by heat molding the boot (white part of the hard boot in your vídeo) would be enough or should I also try to mold the hard boot cuff (black part of the hard boot in your video) as well?

@@johnmpifer Hi John! I don’t know for how long you have had your Maxxum Edge, but if they have recently been bought and if you can change them for the RB cruisers, they seem to have a wider fit. I haven’t experienced it myself, but a friend of mine with the same problems as we do (I have both prominent internal malleolus and navicular :’( ) is now skating pain free!! If you can’t get the RBs or don’t plan on changing them, like me (I love having 4x90mm) I’ve had heat-molded them at least five times (it takes patience to punch out the hard boot enough for it to stop hurting). For being totally honest, the pain has decreased from a 9/10 to a 2/10 (10/10 being the worst pain and 1/10 almost no pain). I think I might keep doing it until I get better at skating and invest in skates that don’t hurt. Unfortunately there are no inline skating shops around my area. I might probably go to Canada to get my next pair at a good shop with good customer service.

If you service your bearings they can last a lot longer than your wheels. You should be able to get at the very least 6-8 months with your wheels. You’ll be able to tell by how much smaller they’ve gotten.
hi, can i heatmold the laces part of my NEXT100? i find the toes pocket a little too big and its almost impossible to budge the toes pocket with the laces. Thanks in advance!
@Thirty and Rollin Hey, thanks for the video, buddy. I immediately noticed hot spots on my inner malleolus ankle bones with my new RB Maxxum Edge 125 3WD’s when I first got them and tried them on. Figured I’d first try to see if the skates would break in a bit and lessen the discomfort, but, after around 6 hrs of fairly aggressive (for me, at least) skating (I’ve even already had to rotate wheels), they’re not getting any more comfortable. In fact, I went out yesterday, and had to turn around and head back after less than 15 minutes, because I was already in quite a bit of pain. It had been 4 days since my last 1-hr skate, which wasn’t too bad, but, I suppose the bruising and abrasion is cumulative, and this time it was really hurting. I can withstand a certain amount of discomfort (I’m also a distance runner, mountain biker, and cyclist, and past dirt bike and sportbike rider), but this was bad enough to be distracting and to take the fun out of skating. The good news is that, other than that inner malleolus, everything else on my feet feel great in the boots. It’s just those areas. Already have a heat gun in the garage, so I’ll be busting it out this coming week! Other than that, I’ve really enjoyed the skates so far! Thanks again for all you do for the inline skating community!
They say carbon boots are heat moldable. I want to know to what extent that is before i fork out big cash for a pair. I have wide and flat foot so my size most of the time is off and i would really like to find something that fits right. Im 3 weeks into rollerblading and im loving it except the foot pain. No shops to try, only overseas online orders. I have PS Next 80 btw. Thanx.
I have carbon fibre ice skates and they only mould a bit. True skates are much more mouldable. So it depends on the skate, but a way out skate will never fit. Best find out the length snd width first.
Hi ! And thank you for the video ! After trying and comparing PS Next in 40-41 (too big) and 38-39 (a little too small), I kept the latter, but my toe touches a bit against the plastic shell. I know you said one cannot add egg extra size, but do you think it's possible to heat mold the end of the skates to get the precious 2 or 3 needed millimetres extra ? Thank you and greetings from Germany !
Hi @Thirty and Rollin, I am having a hard time deciding between the Next 80 in 42/43 (too small?) vs 44/45. Can I get the smaller ones to fit better with heat molding the liner or should I go for the bigger ones? Problem is, I have a foot lenght of 276mm which is too large for 42/43 (until 275) but to small for 44/45 (starting at 282mm) when looking at the Powerslide fitting table. Any suggestion? I am happy for feedback.
@@AM-hv3pd Hi, I know you didn't ask me the question. But maybe my experience can be useful. My feet are narrow to normal, 25 cms long, and the shops advised me to get 40-41 (25,4-26,1 cms). I ordered and tried 38-39 (24.2 - 24.8) and 40-41. 40-41 felt big, after lacing them I felt like my ankles would not be supported very long, and there was way too much space in front in the toe box. With 38-39, I could touch the end of the skate with my big toe, but nothing bad or uncomfortable, the big toes were not crammed. The skate felt like it was a part of my leg. I asked around in many forums and kept 38-39 (24,2 -24,8 cms). They broke in and they are now perfect and comfortable, widthwise and lengthwise, no heat molding necessary. I only got a 40-41 Eva insole and put it on the 38-39 liner, that was even better and I haven't looked back since. Skated around 300 kms since I got my Powerslides Next end of May. The bigger size would have become too big after breaking in the skates and I would have had to buy extra things to make them fit.
@@Geexx4 Many thanks for your insights! With my 276mm feet I will try out the Rollerblade Twister Edge in 43 (280mm). At least on paper that might work (to have a 4mm comfort zone) but let's see :-)

Hi! I have very narrow feet, width is a size 5 but length a size 10! I don't live near a store that has rollerblades where I could try different ones on, so I ordered a pair of twister edge skates since many people have said they were too narrow for them. The length is good, my toes touch slightly when I put them on sitting but not when I stand up. But, my forefoot is still quite loose. Do you have any suggestions to make them fit better? Can this method be use to press down the top of the boot on the side of the laces? The plastic is so rigid that pulling on the laces doesn't do much. Thanks so much!
Sound like you got the right size but you do have a very narrow foot. I would try placing a soft flat insole in the shell beneath the liner. I have sucked up a lot of room in boots that were too big volume wise by adding an insole or two. Good luck!

I know this a quite old video but you seem to be someone who knows what he is doing (and i rly have noone to turn to) I want to buy specific pair of hardshoe skates and there is ONE problem - they do not hurt when I put them on and roll about - they fit perfectly and are quite snuggly - BUT on one feet has a high heel or smth - and it hurts when I am putting the skates on or off - ONLY DURING that time. One part of shell (top on a front) seems to be digging it's edge into my top of a foot (?) only when i am pulling or pushing the feet inside/outside the skate (Imagine having a loop brancelet and pushing your palm throu it - it will squeeze your palm a bit and afterwards it will be fine) Do you think heat remolding this part would help a bit?
@@ThirtyandRollin I honestly didn't realize that until recently, as my late dad would always tell me "numb is good! Keep pushing through!" I had them since I was 8, and turned 30 in December.
This is true but if you have to mold a small spot in the shell to make them more comfortable for you to use then its worth it. I have heat molded most my skates and no stress cracks have happened over years of hard skating.
I bought some new skates not long ago and they fit well except in one area which is my big front toe. It is very painful and there is no way in exchanging them because I already had a test ride with them. The hard frame of the skates is not a problem because there is still a good gap behind the heel but it's more the liner itself. Here are the skates that I bought: www.skatehut.co.uk/skates/inline-skates/sfr-air-x-pro-80-inline-skates-black-silver.htm Is there a way how I could fix these? I would still warm the liner/shell up and put something like the handle end of a screw drive inside the boot to push out the constricting spot. You just need to stretch the liner/shell like you would with a hard shell.
Guy it’s not a hockey skate you can’t bake these plastic pieces of crap it does nothing there’s no gel in this liners nor is there curved composite so heating them is just taking life out of your fruit boots but you prob only paid like $200 and in that case your skate is a plastic/aluminum Chinese toy. I seriously think this gentleman has no idea what he is doing and keeps applying things that are done to an ice hockey boot made from much more premium materials that will not work and WILL DAMAGE YOUR plastic “inline” skate and most certainly void any warranty. Skate ovens actually exist and you do bake composite inline skates but not plastic ones

That should be plenty. You can always hold in in spot longer to warm it more.
What about taking the Dremel and doing a generous cutout in the shell? ^^ Good insight, I'm sure all the newbies that are popping up right now will appreciate this video.
I have never Dremeled out a boot for fit just a soul plate for wheels. Heat molding is all I have done for fit.
@@ThirtyandRollin I was joking man hahaha. Think about how ridiculous that would look ^^ If you gotta go that far then you definitely got the wrong size hahaha
@@ThirtyandRollin There's a golden rule when it comes to modding skates. If you can tell at first glance, you've done it wrong. Good mods are always hidden. Underneath the soulplate, underneath the skin, inside the shell... skates gotta look proper. great video, have RB SK blanks (aggressive skate) where my left foot is perfect and right foot has an inner ankle hot spot that gives me a blister and my toe is a bit cramped as well. going to try and see if I can force just a bit more room in the toe box with this technique. can't tell if the ankle blister is from a tight spot or if it's too loose there? do you have any advice for those inner ankle blister spots? are those generally caused by tightness or looseness? or does it always vary? cheers!
It definitely can vary. How long have you skated on them so far?
@@ThirtyandRollin probably a total of 10-12 hours
@@konnyknees I would give it a few more hours and then heat mold it if it's a pressure point.
So, I Just ordered a set of skates that have heat moldable liners, Should I heat mold the liners 1st thing? OR should I put some hours in them before heat molding them. and either or. should I mold my skate 1st or the liner 1st?
Yes heat mold the liners first thing.

@@diodeno666 Ya I would let it heal and keep rolling them. If there is a lot of movement in that spot they may be too big.
I did successfully use a blow dryer but in was kind of a pain and took a few trys with alternating skate sessions

With skates it's more about shape and which skates fit your feet correctly.
hey, an update on the fit for twister edge x - pretty please? haha!
Not the edge series that I have now but the previous Twisters I did.
hey regarding the outside foot toe area, mine has a metal plate inside to fasten the anti scrape plastic part, how do you heat mold that part?
If it is removable try removing it first.
I have the Rollerblade NJ pros. How would I do it with blades that have a skin?
Very good question. You have to heat the shell from inside. Much harder but doable. Just be careful not to touch the metal part of the heat gun to the shell.
Have you tried this with the roces egos you reviewed a little bit ago? I got them (prior to seeing your video) and theyre great skates but i think theres a pressure point by my ankle thats so annoying
No I haven't since they were wide on me but you should be able to. Just go slow as they are a lighter weight plastic shell.

I would try the main shell first. The cuff is a bit harder to mold.
Thanks for your reply! I am a huge fan of you and your skills!

I have the Maxxum Edge as well, but I have the 125 3WD.
Same problem as you - severe pain on inner malleolus bones.

The weird thing is that I don’t have wide feet, nor large and wide ankles. I’ve never had to wear a wide shoe in my life. I’m a distance runner, and my feet and ankles are fairly skinny.
I’m going to try punching them out with the heat gun and see what happens.
They’re such cool skates. I hope I can get them to work for me.
Yea my skates hurt the left ball bone of my ankles bad. Should I heat mold um or will break in fix it. Cause the pain on the inner ball bone on my ankles is pretty Intense

Hey there! This video is super useful! I just bought a FR3 80 skate, not very comfortable for now, but only have a few spots, in general it should be a good fit. kool! video.... got a question... how often I change my bearings or wheels....???
Depends on how often you ride and what you ride. I can usually get about a year out of wheels and bearing before I purchase new ones.
If you service your bearings they can last a lot longer than your wheels. You should be able to get at the very least 6-8 months with your wheels. You’ll be able to tell by how much smaller they’ve gotten.

@Thirty and Rollin
Hey, thanks for the video, buddy.
Thanks for making this video - i was not aware this was an option. Would this work for decreasing the arch on a FR1 shell? Might be too big of a spot.
Should work.
I am not sure with carbon boots. I have only molded plastic hard shell boots with removable liners.
That area of the skate may be hard to heat mold but no body is stopping you from trying!

Here are the skates that I bought:

I would still warm the liner/shell up and put something like the handle end of a screw drive inside the boot to push out the constricting spot. You just need to stretch the liner/shell like you would with a hard shell.
@@ThirtyandRollin Thank you for the advice, I will try it out.
Use Dremel tool to remove material from inside is more effective than this
If you want to weaken the integrity of your skate.
