  • Like most things in life the more we work on it the better we get. In this video I show my progress and what I've learned when it comes to training mango trees.

    Dude, to stop the string cutting into the branch I can recommend using a 2 inch off cut of garden hose sliced down one side and placed around the limb. I use that extensively here and it often even holds up through the typhoons ( hurricanes) we get here every year. Thanks for the video.

    I like the bending and weighted down training. Here in norcal,growth is so much slower,pruning for that is almost impossible. I never thought too tall would ever be a problem..but it is about 14' and in another 3 or 4 years might be beyond even a ladder picking. Spread out could work!

    this is the only video I have been able to find where the mango tree branches are tied down or weighted down instead of pruned. Do you have any update on the trees a year later? I started bringing my branches down with water bottles and I am curious to see how they might turn out a couple years from now.

    how old does your mango tree have to be to start limb bending

    • @ingarrajoey
      @ingarrajoey  3 роки тому +1

      You can start when those pencil thick branches have hardened off. Usually when they are about 8 to 10 inches long. The height of the tree and where you start training the canopy is up to you. You can start when the tree is 3 feet tall or whatever you think is best.

      @@franciscoportodo6698 greetings, whenever you prune a tree it will try and regrow. Mango trees are very vigorous and usually will put out several new shoots from where you just pruned. Usually within 2 to 3 weeks. Then, it's all about selecting which ones you want to be your new branches. Three is usually a good number. I hope this answers your questions. If you have any more questions feel free to contact me

      @@ingarrajoey I know about the tree being vigorous as it grows. Aswell as what pruning does to plants/trees. I was referring to making the main stem produce the chutes. As i tried cutting/topping main stems mango plants that are 2'-4' in height. It doesn't work like when you do it to a pepper plant or cannabis plant where it shoots branches from the leaf sets. I would like to make plants have multiple main branches starting at 2'-4' im height. Then i can start off from there and prune as it grows into a bushy canopy.
