@@lorrmaster4778 roughly less than 10% of a diamond mine is used for jewelery, only rare diamonds and stones that can be faceted are taken as prime specimens. The majority of diamonds are too micro or unusable unless used in industrial and commercial uses.
Even most chips or small stones under .5 carat are usually slivers or cut off shards reshaped. Unless u buy a 1 karat and up than your usually buying imperfect diamonds or heavily included stones that are than heat treated in a lab or manipulated to look more perfect than it is.
Rubies, sapphires, emeralds all the same process in finishing only difference is the diamond scale 😂 heating imperfect sapphires to make blood rubies. Very risky but the increase of cost per stone sky rockets more than x100 times the original value of the poor stone ✌️🤗

Like oil, palladium, wheat and all the other Russian commodities, they will still make their way to Europe, they will just be more expensive. ie So usually what will happen is that places like China and India will buy them and then re-sell them to the EU (or buy them and sell their own resources instead, be that buying Russian oil and then selling their own oil, or probably in this case just buying Russian diamonds at normal prices they are right now and reselling them again for a higher price, because diamonds are about to get more pricey like oil did).
And you know what? EU member states probably knew that as they made this ban, just so they can at least feel and say they are doing something.
Really helps them get re-elected and makes for good talking points during political debates. I can already see Trump going: "He is weak on Russia, would've never done this if I was in office, etc" - You know? The usual talking points. And then Biden will come with: "I pushed for a ban on Russia diamonds." - Knowing full well that they aren't really banned.
So, you're about to see other countries suddenly being able to "fill in" in the Diamond export gap left by these sanctions. And no one is none the wiser to ask where they came from, nor do they really care. They can at least say they are sanctioning . . .

well, if there are any recognizable characteristically russian colour types of diamonds, that could happen. but natural diamonds are going to drop in value anyway, since artificial diamond production processes have been advancing leaps and bounds in the last ten years or so. it used to be that artificial diamonds were ao imperfect that they were only useful for industrial processes (mostly as relatively fine grit for grinding tools), then they started making tiny gem diamonds, and nowadays synthetic gem diamonds are roztinely produced in really as big a size as can be considered at all reasonable for jewellery. they can either already be made bigger than the biggest natural diamonds, or they will in very few years' time. I don't know what they can do in terms of colours, but I would guess that aome variations are probably not a big additional hurdle. besides, I think the general public image of diamonds is such that most people expect them to be white and do value white diamonds relatively high compared to many colour types.
anyways, if you want a sparkly faceted stone, get a moissanite - they're even sparklier.

Western sanctions measures harm those who impose them against Russia. Sanctions have eliminated competition in the Russian domestic market, which is good for domestic producers and the Russian economy as a whole. Even though Russia does not have everything in the country that is required, for example, to produce chips or other equipment, it is supported by the majority of the world’s population. For example, China, which is an unusually technologically advanced state and is constantly developing, supplies Russia with the goods that it needs. But in the modern world, it is also not a problem to simply bypass sanctions.

Heard once that Russia could crash the diamond market by flooding the world with cheap Russian diamonds. (Currently DeBeers has strict controls to keep prices high.)

Ban doesn't mean ban, it means cheaper... at least for the manufacturers.
    For the public... who knows.

The overwhelming amount of approving and cheering comments by ordinary Russians in response to videos depicting the atrocities against civilians and prisoners of war in Ukraine were just as shocking to Ukrainians as the war itself. We had somehow grown accustomed to the war, but the realization of who we have been living alongside all this time without even knowing it is still horrifying.
Those barbaric creatures referred to themselves as our brotherly people. One can only imagine what they might do to those they consider their enemies given the opportunity.
Negotiating with Russia is akin to negotiating with ЕbоІа vіrus. Allowing Russia to remain undefeated is like undertreating a deadly infection - it will only return stronger. This is why any peace agreement that doesn't ensure a clear victory for Ukraine is merely a temporary ceasefire.
