It does feel good to step back and say 'I grew that!' ☺️ -My tomatoes also ended up very tall this year, our last frost was a few weeks late so they were stuck in little pots indoors, but it didn't seem to bother them, they're very forgiving (thankfully!)

Ive always called them "Wonder tomatoes" as in you wonder which ones you've got! Lol
I used to work in a big greenhouse nursery and we often put tomatoes and peppers on clearance called wonder plants as people took the tags out and no one had a clue what you'd end up with. At 50% they almost always sold.

@@Emeraldwitch30 Lol! When we find an unknown plant that's popped up where we hadn't planted anything, we call it a "Damn if I know"! Too funny. 😆😂

I have a tray of surprise tomatoes. My grandson, age two, was helping me and removed the tags because the were dirty. We washed them and put them back but who knows what is what. He is my little gardener His favorites are the peas and string beans and those tags are in his bucket so again no idea. At least the bush beans and pole beans were planted in different places before the tags were collected to be washed! Carrots will be another surprise. I love it. You can't take your eyes off him for a minute, just like my daughter.

I finally got my garden all planted. I started all my tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant by seed, and then transplanted. Everything else was direct seed. It's a little late here in Fort Worth, but just like every place else we've had crazy weather. It's supposed to rain all week, so hopefully that will help. I really enjoy watching your channel. I'm an old fat woman, so if I have success with gardening, then I can prove anyone can do it.

Dear Todd and Rachel, If I were a tomato plant, there is no other place I’d rather be, but in your garden. Thanks for introducing us to your new augur for making holes. Great tool! When you use it again, show us a different application. Your tomato plants look great, the more so because you grew them from seed. You may even save some of your own seed for next year. Thanks for telling us how you hardened them off, a tedious, but, nonetheless, important process. Now I look forward to seeing your garden grow. Sincerely, Larry Clarence Lewis, Canada.

You are going to love using that auger. I like using a corded drill. I find the cordless run dry to quickly. I also put my tomatoes in the solo cups when I transplant. That way you just drop the round tomatoes transplant into the round auger whole. It’s the best way I have found to plant your garden. Super fast. Loving your channel. I stopped by for the canning tips and stayed for the channel.

I got myself a planting auger for my drill last season and absolutely LOVE it! So much easier for planting tomatoes and peppers! My tomatoes last year got really tall like yours. This year I didn't even start them until April 15th and they are already big enough to plant within the next week! I harden my plants off on my covered patio. It gets maybe a couple of hours a day sun when it's low in the sky but I've found about 5 days of that I can go ahead and plant them out.

I bought an auger last year for planting the garden... actually it does work to make the hole wider...u just need to move it around in the hole, leaning side to side.... you'll get the hang of it....I basically never dig a hole at all anymore....saves my hands! I used to always get a blister in the palm of my hand from repeated digging.

You can actually make a trench & lay the tomatoe plant down & just keep the top above ground, you end end w/ 2 to 3 extra plants that will come up in yhe trench. I think this works good if you are on a strict budget. I did it years ago when I first started gardening, my Dad taught me alot, he also told me to use lime in your 1st garden, I don't remember why but I did it & my garden was awsome.

Oh, I forgot to mention...I noticed the end of your cattle panel row had sharp pointy edges. You can use those Styrofoam pool noodles to cover those sharp edges. We use the pre cut ones you can buy to cover outside water pipes to keep them from freezing during winter. Cut the points as short as you can. Then you can cover the points as well as the vertical metal edge of the panel which helps hold onto the foam.

Not sure if someone has already commented, but when using the auger go down straight first and then go down half way again on an angle doing this all the way around I believe this will help make the whole wider. I also watch UA-cam channel "Garden Answer", they use an auger and I believe that's what they do. :) My first time planting tomatoes from seed as well. I'm still in the scary stage of will it succeed or not? Your video is encouraging! Thank you! :)
