I don’t care if you can play as a female you can also plays a Male character. They said years ago like three years ago that they were going to go for a whole Bonnie and Clyde type of storyline. Well, obviously the female is the Bonnie google history if you don’t know what Bonnie and Clyde is, but they were a crime duel that were also lovers GTA constantly takes things from real life, events, and other media projects to make their storylines.
although the problem with the controversy this time is because people are gonna hate it for being too prowoke or too antiwoke rather than the usual violence or sexual bullshit. it's sad that the world especially here in the states have gotten to this point and have become so divided since if it were 10 years ago, very little to no attention would have been raised on these same issues.

The whole entire moral of the GTA story is that the pursuit for crime and short term pleasures like drug abuse, casual sex or material possessions like expensive cars or sex trafficking rings are NOT the secret to living a long happy life. There are brutal, life destroying consequences in the real world and the only way that COULD be plausible is in a fictionalized world of faked entertainment like a video game.
Exactly. Rockstar shows with their games that "yes, in our game you can be a criminal and do what you want. But be ready for some hard and dark reality, when you will do it in real life"
I even read some posts from people who were criminals in the past and they loved GTA, because it shows why you should not become a gang member or a hard killer etc. This game also changed some ex-criminals lifes. So much for "GTA is killing people and kids"
GTA has always showed crime to be a terrible idea, but also recognizes that it's a video game at the end of the day - so it has to let us do said crime.
It has always been a parody effectively as well, at least as recently as GTA 3 (when they first transitioned to 3D). It parodies modern police - showing them having an infinite number of cops that will show up, escalating all the way to using tanks and such on you, over a few minutes long car chase if you end up being deadly enough. It parodies criminal gangs and popular culture around that sort of thing very heavily. The radio stations and such in-game have always included some hilarious bits to them as a parody of media, etc.

I have a good story about this. Couple of years ago I was selling games I finished on FB Marketplace. One of those games was Mafia 3, some guy texted me he would buy it and that he would come pick it up. He texted me I'm in front so I went outside and it was cop on duty in full cop uniform buying Mafia 3 from me. I still laugh about this.
That's why people play them. To escape reality.

The political/social commentary in RDR2 is so subtle yet so powerful and interesting. Besides the Wapiti reserve quests, I remember riding to a mission with Lenny and he just casually talks about the racism he experiences and it hits you. These guys have not played a single Rockstar game, they are so well written, I honestly wish it was RDR3 and not GTA VI coming out, the latter franchise just tends to have an overly goofy feeling, whereas RDR games feel more balanced and grounded, but with all the fun still there.
The thing is, what room is there for a third, or technically fourth game? Another prequel? And it’s fundamentally a western series, you can’t have it set in the 1920s. Also, I love the game and it’s not subtle about its social commentary. It’s extremely left wing.

I can tell you from personal experience that video games do not make people bad. They would be bad regardless.
Growing up I played video games. I never caused trouble and use to avoid anything that could lead me into it. Sadly my mum's house where I was living at the time as I was only 18, burnt down. I ended up sofa surfing for several years which lead to my mental state falling apart. I then began to use drugs which then lead to other complications. I have had to come to terms with my past which still to this day is not easy to think about. Eventually I got help and found my way back on the right track. 1 of the things that helped me more then anything was going back to what I enjoyed, video games.
If someone is playing games they aren't doing anything they shouldn't be. Therapists are even using games to help people. Some schools use them for education. There is a church using VR chat! Video games are helping countless people.
Video games are distractions. They didnt help you, they just turned off your brain and left years of trauma unnurtered and untouched and you will be a worse person for it.
the only somewhat valid thing ive heard about that is that maybe some people with certain violent tendencies will go to a game like GTA or CoD, but they act like thats a bad thing. id rather have someone violent playing gta than stabbing someone or punching a wall

I prefer hyper violent splatterfests, and have been gaming since I was 10. Started with Wolfenstein, went to Doom and Duke Nukem, Soldier Of Fortune, Farcry, Hatred, Shadow Warrior, every COD/Batglefield game etc. Fast paced virtual blood n guts is cathartic and relaxing.
I'm also a Christian, a loving father, a productive member of society, and spent 16 years taking care of vulnerable patients and old folks, developing friendships with many of them. I'm happy, well adjusted, and don't even road rage (90% of the time... 😂)

My favourite thing about the conversations about GTA 6 is that I've seen so many posts of people getting mad over a leak saying that there would be pronoun options. it's funny because
1. The "leak" isn't real
2. Our GTA online characters are already referred to as "they" and "them" so it literally doesn't change anything
No sane person would make a character and then have them be trans, they'd just make a character of their preferred gender

It's depressingly hilarious and ludicrously sad that people complain and say that achievements in games are worthless, playing games is meaningless and a waste of time and money, and shows you have no life or skills when you could do everything in games for real.
Clearly, they don't understand that STAR DESTROYERS are fictional, and playing like a raving Cowboy in 1899 or 1900 isn't possible IRL. We are not living in those years.
Nor can most people just earn millions and buy dozens of cars and hundreds of GALAXY-sized mansions. And a lot of people are depressed or in some form of downs. The world sucks, everything sometimes sucks, in the worst form.
Games allows us to escape reality. But the idiots don't want us to escape reality, they want us miserable and almost suicidal. Because their level of comprehension and intelligence is shallower than a puddle. Even if they are just as miserable as some of us are, or happy as some of us gamers are, they still can't understand, or they just won't, they don't want to.
Games also allows us to wipe out entire species in the blink of an eye. IN A GAME. It's not the same as killing people IRL - it's simulated. But we might be fed up with something in life. Maybe someone annoyed us at work, maybe I stubbed my toe, maybe the food I had was really really bad. Gaming can help us vent.
As for me... yeah, I am not successful, I'm on fucking welfare. But I am doing okay. Not many can say that today. And I have elephantine proportions of free time on my hands. If I am not reading, tinkering, walking around or such? GAMES. It's a good time sink, it gives me some level of fulfilment, it gives me a routine. I need that. A lot of people need that. We need the fun, we need the community it brings. If people refuse to even try to understand that, that's their problem. If they enforce it to be our problem... we tend to get rather pissed and fight them off.
We want our games. We want our Empire builders, murder simulators, crime simulators, strategy, war games, all of it. We have our likes and dislikes, and games allow us to explore so much that we are not allowed to, or can't afford to, in real life. Games can be the solution and escape, and WE gamers love it and need it sometimes.

Tbh even a game as early as GTA: SA does the diversity thing pretty nicely with the triad leader, the hombre from Southside, the G-Man, anti G-Man, crazy hispanic lady(?) and more. It doesn't feel forced. Instead, the game felt like an adventure where you meet tons of interesting people

One thing that so many of these people do not seem to understand is that one of the key reasons why we engage with stories is that we want see other points of view and what other people's lives are like that are different from our own. As someone who plays Chun-Li as my main in Street Fighter, same.
I like to remind people that in the original GTA from '97 on PC, four of the eight playable characters were women. Granted, you could only ever see them from the top down and it held no bearing against the game itself, but DMA / Rockstar already did what so many are complaining about. Not to mention, Vice City made its first appearence here.
