It's amazing how "cultural sensitivity" and offensive jokes is a concern for GTA... ...a game where you commit murder, robbery, and other insane crimes imaginable.
I appreciate that they are making employees lives better but this game needs to have the classic gta feel - this includes the humour and controversial topics that rockstar covers and normally gets away with.
Removing Drag Queens because "it's transphobic" is the ultimate contradiction because this assumes that trans people are drag queens, which is transphobic. Rockstar played an uno reverse card on themselves.

The only reason games don't want that rating is because consoles won't publish these games. Some countries ban those type of games. So they'd lose a lot of market

I always thought GTA's story was like South Park. It pokes fun at everyone and the American Culture by making it over the top. Like you said it's satire, so for me I personally think removing jokes, any of them, goes against what GTA has been. If you aren't allowed to poke fun at one group but everyone else is fair game that's a bit silly in my opinion, even more so in a GTA game.

My concerns with GTA 6 are that they'll see how well online has gone for the previous title and they'll sacrifice the single player to go all in on it with this one. I like the online mode, but single player is where my heart is with those games.

I was worried that RDR2 wud lean into the multiplayer over the single player experience, but that ended up having the longest single player campaign of any rockstar game, so I’ll continue to hold out hope. But nothing has done what GTA online has. I want that incredible GTA single player story before jumping into the online nonsense.
Lezlie, Lazlow, and 1/2 of the Houser duo are gone. I don't think the average fan understands how much of that core team is responsible for everything we love about GTA. I've been a die hard single player R* player since 2001, and this is the first time I've ever been nervous about what the future holds, not because of wokeness but because Lazlow and Dan have written some fucking hysterically funny shit in their time. Yup nice to see someone with the same view. Dan left Rockstar what? Two years ago? That's the thing that is worrying me the most about the future of GTA and Rockstar games. Dan pretty much wrote and/or coproduced most of Rockstar's games including all of the GTA games and both Red Dead games. So with him not at the helm of the story, what happens?

He spent a lot of time recording dialogue and working with actors in mocap. This is the long way of saying I really don't know. I hope he'll be in the game again as a character but as a R* bigwig he's stepped down so the writing (ads, radio, soundtrack) could take a hit

I personally like the idea of a Bonnie and Clyde dynamic, so a woman protagonist doesn't bother me at all. It's when they start saying they're going to be more "sensitive" that I start having problems. Edgy, politically incorrect humor is a staple of the GTA experience, so if they tone it down it'll either make the game feel bland or even cringy if they go too far in that direction.
This is pretty much exactly my stance as well... Make the man your traditional GTA protagonist and have the woman be a Fem Fatale type character. You can add Romance between the 2 if you want, but you don't have to. I think the dynamic would go over very well with the fandom.

For those of you who don't know we used to be able to talk to the drag qeens npcs and the protagonists would make a joke about trans people, pretty mild stuff, then someone brought it up 9 years after the game's release and they promptly removed it, kind of a stupid and unnecessary move in a game where you can insult everyone
The creators of GTA and Southpark worked so hard to be "allowed" to get away with so much social critique that it hurts to see that Rockstar is throwing away its privilege.

When someone removes/bans/censors jokes at the expense of an identity group, they're implying that that group is too weak and fragile to handle mockery. That's another example of the bigotry of low expectations. Historically GTA games have avoided this issue in the most effective way, by making every identity group the subject of mockery, i.e. equality.

When the company that is known for making fun of everyone stops making fun of a group, yeah they have given up a core tenant of the GTA formula. The moment Rockstar starts protecting certain groups when it comes to satire is the moment you realized you are past the peak of the roller coaster, it’s downhill from here.
Protecting previously discriminated groups from mockery is absolutely the wrong way to normalize them. It constantly keeps them in a box, isolated and unintegrated. Making fun of them like everybody else makes you look at them as just that: *everybody else.*
Of course that’s the correct way to do things, the only thing people want is for people at the very least not cross the line into bigotry, what makes people uncomfortable is when people that do not put in the work cross the line and call it “humor”. There’s always a difference.
I have no problem with them possibly making a female main character, I just hope gta maintains it's willingness to push boundaries with their humor. I like their hyperbolic satire of all people and perspectives
As long as they have proper character development it's not an issue at all. Making an interesting character that ties into the overall story of the game and doesn't feel forced for diversity purposes is never a bad thing, doesn't matter if it's a female.

I'm okay with having a female protagonist I'm interested in it and I hope she's a badass plus it being like Bonnie and Clyde sounds awesome, I just don't want them to sacrifice the witty humor along with the interesting dialogue that makes the missions entertaining at least for me, but I guess we shall see.
Unfortunately she will likely be better and stronger and faster and smarter than the male counterparts, who are either dumb/beta or both. That's what I can't stand. It's so forced.

I do agree, as someone who has put thousands of hours into the GTA universe as a whole, and sometimes spends an hour or more driving down streets or walking down sidewalks, taking in the atmosphere of the worlds, i do legit believe that Parodical Humor is a big part of what makes GTA, GTA. Not specifically racism/sexism lol, but parodying how white people are, how black people are, how gay or straight people are or women and men, but also how ads are clearly bullshit, how the government isn't on our side, how the news makes things out to be a bigger deal or how social media is too important, all of this parody style content is part of what makes the world of GTA feel wholly unique and i think it would be wrong to take away these offensive and parodical jokes... but at the same time, why the fuck is a woman being a protag an issue lol. I've actually wanted to see how this would be done for GTA VI, i mean in RDR2, we got some great female characters, i don't have an issue with a Female Latina at all, i just don't want GTA to stop having offensive or dark or satirical humor taken away, because that's a lot of GTA's personality and i think that's partly important in making GTA's world FEEL like GTA and not any other Open World. If it does end up "woke" so to speak then they've clearly forgotten the point. GTA is about criminals and generally bad people. If they remove that and have only goody goody characters then it's going to be a major mistake. The trans community already attacked Rockstar because the main characters in GTA 5 have negative comments against crossdresser NPCs. I recall Rockstar submitting and apologizing to them, I could be wrong since it was a while ago.
I think it should show all sides of society just as it exists as GTA always have and make fun of society in the process as it always have. That combined with the criminal activity you could never live out in real life is what makes it gta. Hopefully it doesn’t go “woke” but it wouldn’t surprise me. Take a look at last of us part 2, i played the first 5mins and literally quit. My wife finished it and even she hated the whole woke ideology in it. I hope gta 6 is great, but 4 & 5 were kind of dry compared to san andreas and vice city.
Having gay and female characters is fine. The problem with "woke" is that it is often forced and prioritized over good story telling and characters. And often times those characters are relatively one dimensional. They are either gay, or a strong woman and that's it. They have little to no characteristics besides their gender or relationship preferences. If a character is not forced in, or replaces another charcter simply to be diverse, and is well written, little to no people would have a problem with it.
What's wild to me is people thinking that the woke accusations are about the new protagonist when it's mostly about Rockstar dialing back it's offensive humor that was one of the main reasons GTA had so much charm

I don't think they'll dial back the "offensive" humour. Despite being a pretty left-leaning person I'm not against offensive/edgy jokes, however when the joke boils down to a point-and-laugh caricature of a minority group it stops being funny.
I feel like Grand Theft Auto as a series is amazing at satirizing modern American culture. Games like San Andreas and GTA IV especially do a good job at covering topics like the treatment of minorities and the truth of the “American Dream” while still being funny games. I feel like the new game has a lot of material to comment on or satirize for sure since GTA V came out in 2013.

today there is 0 incentive to preorder, maybe cosmetic skins, but as digital products the delivery is instant and not playable until release anyway. plus most new games come out broken. wait a couple weeks for independent reviews and patches to fix the bugs
The characters in games and movies etc. are NEVER the problem, it's their writing that can ruin them and you can only blame the writers for terrible characters. For good writing they should do it like Ridley from Alien, writers first wrote the character without a gender a mind (as in ambiguous) and then assigned an actress to the character and that made her real badass. Same applies to all LGBT characters they'll be good characters if they're well written (like actual human beings with different values and quirks and personal stories) and not just there to push political agendas to make writers feel like some special snowflakes for diversifying.
I mean this has always been a thing. Even when Sesame Street added Gordon in the 50s alot of Southern States didn't want to show it because they didn't want their kids seeing a black person in a positive light. Or Arthur on two occasions, the first one Busters Postcards where they showed two mom's and when Ratburn was getting married. I believe Alabama never aired those episodes on PBS. Or Mr. Rogers basically saying "I love black people and LGBT people".

That's a company treating their employees correctly. There is a reason why Dan Houser's comment bragging about overtime gartered massive controversy. It's one thing if one person (infamously Masahiro Sakurai when he worked on the Smash Bro series) chose to work overtime on a passion project. It's a completely different thing if you imply that you FORCED employees to work overtime. Employees are not robots; they have lives and obligations outside of developing video games. Also, you shouldn't be working harder, you should be working smarter. I'm pretty sure you still have to pay people for overtime (which cost money), so you should really be thinking about how to streamline processes to be more efficient.
No one was forced to anything. They all just willingly stayed overtime because the execs threatened to cut them out of the credits if they didn't give every waking hour of their lives to the Rockstar cult. Nothing werid going on here. 😊
Its not like these people are peasants working for minimum wage, if you're making six figures a year sitting at a desk I don't care what work conditions you have to face or how much overtime you have to do, it's part of making that much money. My husband got me into playing Gta. I know stereo-type, but seriously after play san Andreas and liberty city i was hooked. Gta 5 was amazing to play. Trevor being my favorite character. A female protagonist is totally cool. The Bloomberg article was framed to call out gta and rockstar as needing a sensitivity redemption ( fuck that). I definitely understood why some are quick to negative outlook. The gaming/movie industry have seriously fucked up recently. I enjoy the radio stations making fun of everyone.. im not too worried. Just hope it doesn't lose it's satire. As for Buzz lightyear, it sucked because pixar is basically dead. They never should have gotten rid of John lasseter. The story telling just isn't the same.

As someone who live and works in NYC, In the offices I worked at, the ones who were the farther left, were usually the most out spoken about politics in the office. Rockstar is headquarters in nyc. Its impossible for it not to be in the game to a degree. Its also going to be heavily online, would not be surprise if no offline single player story. Which might even worst. Edited to correct comment about no offline singleplayer.
@@LordWarious I lost hope after Rockstar cancelled the single player DLC for V despite saying it was happening and repurposed it into the Doomsday Update for Online. The code for the single player content is still in the goddamn game. To think GTA IV got two whole expansions while V got absolutely nothing. Watch VI have a really short and/or shallow campaign or be online only. Probably the same reason why GTA VI is nowhere near release. GTA V released and rereleased across three whole console generations and is turning a decade old next year. No point developing the next instalment when you make several billion dollars a year on Online microtransactions.
As long as the characters are as well written as they were in GTA V, who cares if they’re male or female. And a modern interpretation of Bonnie and Clyde sounds kickass

Makes sense and as she's a bit of a psycho, you could put in some of the more insane elements common to GTA and get away with it saying it's all in her head. I found GTA5 a bit wierd tonally where it feels realistic and 2 of the characters you play are basically normal people, yet Franklin kills 10+ people out of nowhere just to reposess a motorbike for example. The tone was bizzare for me.
People forget that video games are art. And they can give a reflection on the world on how it is. Even though jokes, satire’s etc. Removing and censoring ruins the art.

the GTA franchise is known for pushing the cultural envelope. they tackle real world issues but do so in their own satirical manner. I still think they have a place in today's world, and its sad to see them go in this direction. If done right, it can shed light on all sorts of political and cultural topics in a fun and engaging way. Edgy jokes around sensitive topics do not necessarily serve to demean the people involved, but can also be used to point out the absurdity of the situations in a way that pushes a positive message. if you've seen the show 'The Boys', you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Are you seriously taking this bloomberg article as a fact? I don't think GTA 6 will be any less of a satire, but what is left to be satirized, the whole world is a safire of what it was a decade ago when GTA 5 released.

Obviously, it's all subject to change. the game's won't be releasing for at least 2 or 3 years. as for satire, I think there's plenty of stuff left to be satirised, you just need good writers for that sort of thing

As long as the story is good, the characters are good, the satire is on point, the gameplay is good and the open world is as lively as any rockstar game, i don't think GTA is gonna lose its charm. Adding a woman as a playable protagonist isn't a woke thing to do at all. There are many women characters in the history of GTA and rockstar that would pass as a commendable GTA playable protagonist.

Being left leaning doesn’t automatically mean woke. Being preachy and lecturing us in all forms of media especially entertainment is woke. Lots of liberals and conservatives can see it and tell the difference. Unfortunately we dwell on the 2 extreme sides of the spectrum.
More than going woke, I don't think people realize how much bank they made from GTA Online. I feel with most of the creatives gone at this point, it's just a way to ship out GTA Online 2 and the single player will just take a backseat.
GTA 5 was such a good parody of 2010s American culture because the developers clearly were criticizing the cringe on both sides of the aisle, making fun of leftist vegan feminist soyboys and also making fun of guns beer and liberty conservatives. 2013 was a different time though, it's hard to imagine leftists working in game companies today would be willing to equally criticize both sides in 2022 so I hope they at least have the sense to set it in the 1980s or something so they can actually write something that isn't blatantly propaganda for "their side"
I can't fathom the amount of copium people have in store for GTA 6..... Rockstar single handedly gave us THAT definitive edition and emphasized to focus on an ONLINE gaming experience... GTA 6 takes so long because they want to have every single revenue option ready and perfected. Don't be suprised if GTA 6 is not like the last GTAs.

I don't think most rational people really care about the female protagonist considering we've had female protagonists in GTA Online and it's an interesting dynamic to explore - especially with her leaked backstory. Having a latina protagonist isn't shoehorned either, because well... the game centers around Miami and South America. I could definitely see them going overboard on representation in the future to the point that it's annoying, but this ain't it. The only problem I really see is with censorship, like removing the trans jokes. That makes absolutely no sense to me because they lambast people way harder for much more common beliefs and attributes. Removing the drag queens doesn't even make sense from a "social justice" perspective, because it's literally counter-intuitive. To me, that's as unfair as removing everyone who lives on Grove Street because they're black gang members. Just don't apply the stereotype too broadly and you're fine. That doesn't mean stereotypical people suddenly don't exist. Plus, it's GTA where your character is as demented as the player wants them be, but usually is an immortal, minigun-wielding, mass murderer at minimum. The stupid humor, obnoxious and colorful NPCs, and insane amount of pee pee poo poo jokes is what makes it light.
For me I don't really care, as long as it's a good story. I also don't get why you can't have a choice between male and female, at the end of the day I want to play a character that I can relate to, I don't really enjoy playing with female characters. I think thats a male thing, men prefer to play as men, I don't want to dress a woman up or visit a salon. GTA really isn't a female orientated game, most women wouldn't play it as they're generally more against violence and don't see the attraction in violence. But hey there are definitely women who do love it, thats why a choice would be better IMO. Like the last few assassins creeds have gone or even if they made it where you have two characters and could just do everything as one or the other, not sure how that would work story wise though which is why a choice would be best. I'm more against GTA cutting the satire though, I don't see what harm the drag queens were really doing its only a joke in one obscure place in a video game. Its not real life ffs. Lets be honest stereotypes aren't even that bad and are based on reality, and also means you can have a higher proportion of representation of different types of people. Shit all my black friends love chicken, its not a stereotype when its a fact of reality black people love their chicken, I joke with them all the time about it and its funny and none offensive. People are too far gone in cuckoo land nowadays it seems.
Why is removing the transgender jokes a big deal? They literally serve no purpose other than being tasteless jokes. Gta 5 would not feel any different without them.
The problem isn’t with female characters, it’s how they’re written and represented. I love a good female character. I’m a guy and I often choose to play a female character in RPG games like female V in Cyberpunk, Kassandra in AC: Odyssey, Elden Ring and Destiny 2.

I just want a story I’ll enjoy in a next level crime simulator. I don’t care if I play as a female so long as she isn’t written terribly and given Rockstars writing with Sadie in Red Dead Redemption 2, I’m pretty optimistic about this decision if it turns out to be true. The recent changes to the Expanded and Enhanced versions of the game that include some censorship don’t really matter to me. They don’t change the humor of the overall game. The ONLY thing I am skeptical of is whether or not Rockstar intends to be less offensive with the writing of GTA 6, though given how unintrusive these changes are to the players experience, I don’t think it’s a likely occurrence. I think Rockstar will probably double down on it’s offensive humor since it will now be such a large selling point for the game.

Sadie was the worst written female character ever. She was shoehorned in as an HR decision and was literally just “flower power” girl that suddenly became a badass gunslinger with zero experience, got infinite undeserved praise, and never faced negative consequences for her actions.
A lot of the OG staff is leaving the studio, including former head writers. I wouldn’t be surprised if the story isn’t on par with previous titles in GTA 6.
As a trans person I think that removing the jokes was a stupid decision. It's like you said, GTA runs by the South Park rules of comedy: either everything can be made fun of, or nothing can.
As a closeted trans person, I don't appreciate the, "you look like a tranny" joke that npcs sometimes yell from their cars, there I said it, It doesn't hurt me, but it hasn't aged quite so well so I understand removing that, what I don't understand is removing drag queens from the game...

A female protagonist would work if it was something like Catalina from GTA 3 and SA. She had what it takes to be a GTA protagonist and she was female. My problem is that modern western games tend to have really unlikeable female characters. A GTA protagonist is not supposed to be a good person but they should be likeable enough so you can bear playing as them.
Not even likable, but just a well written character, some of my favorite character are absolutely fucking unlikable, but that's because they are well written to be the antagonist, to make you hate them.

My expectations are so low since the launch of Cyberpunk, if a good AAA game launches in 2023-2026 it would be a miracle for me. For now I just play older games, recent games are weak and not as fun.
I have to say that the humor is a heavy part of GTA. If you take away a lot of the politically incorrect stuff, it's not really the same game. Pretty much the same with a female main character. It could be fun, if it's done right. Can't blame some people for being worried. The largest percentage of currently released games, shows and movies are pushing some kind of politics. In the end, it's a good title not to pre-order. That's always the right step. Doesn't matter if you think the product will be great.
You know what would've been better? Just say there's a female and male counterparts to play as. And don't mention "latina" and all that jazz. It's pointless. Let the game come out and let people see for themselves where it's set in , what ethnicity the characters are. I mean it was gonna bound to happen. I don't think having a female character itself is something vast majority of people have an issue with. It's being hung up on these "firsts" that people don't really care about. The story this Latina woman could bring would be interesting since they could project a different place instead of Los Santos like how even the least likely people can connect to a drug cartel thanks to a friendship or marriage to someone in, near or actively involved with the cartel in question. The game could start with you, the protagonist and your significant other in the streets of a Mexico City inspired town without that dumb yellow filter everyone places over Mexico, then your significant other would be holding casual conversation with you, before mentioning the cartel, when with ironic timing, cartel hit men preform a drive by shooting, injuring you, and killing your significant other. This sends you onto a revenge streak where you can choose to join the cartel and tear it from the inside, or go alone to tear it down the hard way. This could give GTA a fresh take outside of gangs in Los Santos and introduce multiple endings to the game. Just my thoughts on how they could make a good story

I don't agree. I feel like the scathing criticism of popular and consumer culture is what makes GTA for me. The oppressive atmosphere coupled with the very cruel take on the world GTA IV took is why I loved that game so much. GTA IV for me was the most "GTA" game in the series for me, right beside Vice City. Still loved GTAO, but from a story perspective, you need to be insensitive and crude to accurately convey real characters, especially when said characters are often hardened criminals and drug addicts.

I’d like to believe all is well with GTA but imo I’ve seen some major red flags already. 1. They say it’s gonna be more “culturally sensitive” which sounds like censoring jokes which defeats the whole point of satire. 2. The guy that was writing GTA stories since GTA 3 has left and other highly influential people have left with him. That tells me to expect at least a dip in the quality of the story. 3. They’ve had a “cultural reboot” that means they’re free to push whatever agenda or narrative they want and the crazier they get with these woke ideas, the worse the game will be.
The very essence of GTA is making fun of reality(especially politics) by making a hyper-reality sandbox game. If Woke GTA is true, then they are forgetting their roots.

The only time when a minority showing up in media annoys me, its when its not actual representation but pandering. Amazon and Disney are especially awful about it. In my opinion, if you want to have a gay person, trans person, black person, woman, ect in a movie, then make them an actual character. Make them more than just "a minority", make me care about them at least a little. They dont have to be as fleshed out as the main character (unless they are the main character), but at least give them an actual personality and reason to be involved in the story. "Wokeness" only really annoys me when a franchise deviates so far from its roots that it becomes unrecognizable, or if it becomes over-emphasized and cringe. Otherwise, if there are "woke" elements in something, I don't really pay much mind to it, because a lot of the things people call "woke" have already been around for years. It's not like we haven't been talking about racism and sexism for the last hundred years. People make way too big a deal out of some of the most petty bullshit things. Adding a female character into a game is hardly a "woke" thing to do, too. Especially since we've had a choice between male and female characters in open world games for quite a while now, not to mention a variety of races and skin tones.
The part that concerns me is that they are toning down the humor against marginalized groups, it wouldn't be hard to assume that women fall in that category, add on a female protagonist (which I do welcome ) It isn't hard to be concerned about wokeness affecting the quality of the GTA experience.
If they want to make the character with the tough girl archetype, go for something along the lines of Revy from Black Lagoon and you already have a winner template right there, a real badass woman, yet flawed to the core, but still very likeable. With that being said, in this day and age I have low expectations for a well written female character that isn't blatant pandering to the Twitter crowd that'll never buy their product, then again Rockstar did make Bonnie so there IS a bit of hope.
Or, from a very recent memory. Vi from Arcane is a badass female character that everyone liked. Not to mention the fact that her being lesbian was also not the focal point of her character.

I hope her character won't be annoying as for some reason AAA tend to fuck up when they "finally" add playable female characters to the long-running male-only playable character franchises. I want a down-to-earth and lovable female character. Y'know a Latina with the personality of Alyx Vance would be amazing tbh.
Revvy from black lagoon would be cool but idk how that over the top anime vibe would mesh with the gta world. All I want is for them not to make her the stereotypical “StROnG InDEPenDAnT WoMAN” which is just a woman given negative male characteristics which is played as positive when place onto a female shell. Revvy is cool because whilst she has typical male characteristics I feel that it’s handled correctly, like she’s a person/individual character and not a movement.

Now I don’t think Rockstar should take these elements out because this is what gta is. It’s critical of almost every race, religion, culture, etc. I don’t think they should take out one joke when they made a game like gta 5. it’s meant to be a comedy and it’s not like they are specifically targeting trans people cause like I said they make fun of just about everyone and everything.
The whole point of GTA is being based on the theme of Absurdity. It's meant to be an absurd, everything about it, the story, the NPCs, the in-game culture, the online experience in stories and the only community. Everything about it. Taking that away doesn't make it GTA anymore.

I always thought GTA's story was like South Park. It pokes fun at everyone and the American Culture by making it over the top. Like you said it's satire, so for me I personally think removing jokes, any of them, goes against what GTA has been. If you aren't allowed to poke fun at one group but everyone else is fair game that's a bit silly in my opinion, even more so in a GTA game.

My concerns with GTA 6 are that they'll see how well online has gone for the previous title and they'll sacrifice the single player to go all in on it with this one. I like the online mode, but single player is where my heart is with those games.

I was worried that RDR2 wud lean into the multiplayer over the single player experience, but that ended up having the longest single player campaign of any rockstar game, so I’ll continue to hold out hope. @@firesonic1010 according to his website his production company is still contracted by R* but as an employee he was a writer and a producer. He spent a lot of time recording dialogue and working with actors in mocap.
This is the long way of saying I really don't know. I hope he'll be in the game again as a character but as a R* bigwig he's stepped down so the writing (ads, radio, soundtrack) could take a hit

I personally like the idea of a Bonnie and Clyde dynamic, so a woman protagonist doesn't bother me at all. It's when they start saying they're going to be more "sensitive" that I start having problems. Edgy, politically incorrect humor is a staple of the GTA experience, so if they tone it down it'll either make the game feel bland or even cringy if they go too far in that direction.
What they mean is, they'll shit on white people and elevate everyone else.
This is pretty much exactly my stance as well... Make the man your traditional GTA protagonist and have the woman be a Fem Fatale type character. You can add Romance between the 2 if you want, but you don't have to. I think the dynamic would go over very well with the fandom.

When someone removes/bans/censors jokes at the expense of an identity group, they're implying that that group is too weak and fragile to handle mockery. That's another example of the bigotry of low expectations. Historically GTA games have avoided this issue in the most effective way, by making every identity group the subject of mockery, i.e. equality.

As long as they have proper character development it's not an issue at all. Making an interesting character that ties into the overall story of the game and doesn't feel forced for diversity purposes is never a bad thing, doesn't matter if it's a female.

I'm okay with having a female protagonist I'm interested in it and I hope she's a badass plus it being like Bonnie and Clyde sounds awesome, I just don't want them to sacrifice the witty humor along with the interesting dialogue that makes the missions entertaining at least for me, but I guess we shall see.

I do agree, as someone who has put thousands of hours into the GTA universe as a whole, and sometimes spends an hour or more driving down streets or walking down sidewalks, taking in the atmosphere of the worlds, i do legit believe that Parodical Humor is a big part of what makes GTA, GTA. Not specifically racism/sexism lol, but parodying how white people are, how black people are, how gay or straight people are or women and men, but also how ads are clearly bullshit, how the government isn't on our side, how the news makes things out to be a bigger deal or how social media is too important, all of this parody style content is part of what makes the world of GTA feel wholly unique and i think it would be wrong to take away these offensive and parodical jokes... but at the same time, why the fuck is a woman being a protag an issue lol. I've actually wanted to see how this would be done for GTA VI, i mean in RDR2, we got some great female characters, i don't have an issue with a Female Latina at all, i just don't want GTA to stop having offensive or dark or satirical humor taken away, because that's a lot of GTA's personality and i think that's partly important in making GTA's world FEEL like GTA and not any other Open World. If they remove that and have only goody goody characters then it's going to be a major mistake. The trans community already attacked Rockstar because the main characters in GTA 5 have negative comments against crossdresser NPCs. I recall Rockstar submitting and apologizing to them, I could be wrong since it was a while ago.

I think it should show all sides of society just as it exists as GTA always have and make fun of society in the process as it always have. That combined with the criminal activity you could never live out in real life is what makes it gta. Hopefully it doesn’t go “woke” but it wouldn’t surprise me. Take a look at last of us part 2, i played the first 5mins and literally quit. My wife finished it and even she hated the whole woke ideology in it. I hope gta 6 is great, but 4 & 5 were kind of dry compared to san andreas and vice city.
Having gay and female characters is fine. The problem with "woke" is that it is often forced and prioritized over good story telling and characters. And often times those characters are relatively one dimensional. They are either gay, or a strong woman and that's it. They have little to no characteristics besides their gender or relationship preferences. If a character is not forced in, or replaces another charcter simply to be diverse, and is well written, little to no people would have a problem with it.

I don't think they'll dial back the "offensive" humour. Despite being a pretty left-leaning person I'm not against offensive/edgy jokes, however when the joke boils down to a point-and-laugh caricature of a minority group it stops being funny.
I feel like Grand Theft Auto as a series is amazing at satirizing modern American culture. Games like San Andreas and GTA IV especially do a good job at covering topics like the treatment of minorities and the truth of the “American Dream” while still being funny games. I feel like the new game has a lot of material to comment on or satirize for sure since GTA V came out in 2013.
The treatment of minorities in the US is better than any where on the planet lmao..that's still woke bullshit.

The characters in games and movies etc. are NEVER the problem, it's their writing that can ruin them and you can only blame the writers for terrible characters.
For good writing they should do it like Ridley from Alien, writers first wrote the character without a gender a mind (as in ambiguous) and then assigned an actress to the character and that made her real badass.
Same applies to all LGBT characters they'll be good characters if they're well written (like actual human beings with different values and quirks and personal stories) and not just there to push political agendas to make writers feel like some special snowflakes for diversifying.
I mean this has always been a thing. Even when Sesame Street added Gordon in the 50s alot of Southern States didn't want to show it because they didn't want their kids seeing a black person in a positive light.
Or Arthur on two occasions, the first one Busters Postcards where they showed two mom's and when Ratburn was getting married. I believe Alabama never aired those episodes on PBS.

Okay, I'm stopping you right there. Changing your work culture to eliminate crunch time is not a company being kind and gentle. That's a company treating their employees correctly.
There is a reason why Dan Houser's comment bragging about overtime gartered massive controversy. It's one thing if one person (infamously Masahiro Sakurai when he worked on the Smash Bro series) chose to work overtime on a passion project. It's a completely different thing if you imply that you FORCED employees to work overtime. Employees are not robots; they have lives and obligations outside of developing video games.
Also, you shouldn't be working harder, you should be working smarter. I'm pretty sure you still have to pay people for overtime (which cost money), so you should really be thinking about how to streamline processes to be more efficient.
No one was forced to anything. They all just willingly stayed overtime because the execs threatened to cut them out of the credits if they didn't give every waking hour of their lives to the Rockstar cult. Nothing werid going on here. 😊

My husband got me into playing Gta. I know stereo-type, but seriously after play san Andreas and liberty city i was hooked. Gta 5 was amazing to play. Trevor being my favorite character. A female protagonist is totally cool. The Bloomberg article was framed to call out gta and rockstar as needing a sensitivity redemption ( fuck that). I definitely understood why some are quick to negative outlook. The gaming/movie industry have seriously fucked up recently. I enjoy the radio stations making fun of everyone.. im not too worried. In the offices I worked at, the ones who were the farther left, were usually the most out spoken about politics in the office.
Rockstar is headquarters in nyc. Its impossible for it not to be in the game to a degree.

Makes sense and as she's a bit of a psycho, you could put in some of the more insane elements common to GTA and get away with it saying it's all in her head. I found GTA5 a bit wierd tonally where it feels realistic and 2 of the characters you play are basically normal people, yet Franklin kills 10+ people out of nowhere just to reposess a motorbike for example. The tone was bizzare for me.

the GTA franchise is known for pushing the cultural envelope. they tackle real world issues but do so in their own satirical manner. I still think they have a place in today's world, and its sad to see them go in this direction. If done right, it can shed light on all sorts of political and cultural topics in a fun and engaging way. Edgy jokes around sensitive topics do not necessarily serve to demean the people involved, but can also be used to point out the absurdity of the situations in a way that pushes a positive message. if you've seen the show 'The Boys', you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I don't think most rational people really care about the female protagonist considering we've had female protagonists in GTA Online and it's an interesting dynamic to explore - especially with her leaked backstory. Having a latina protagonist isn't shoehorned either, because well... the game centers around Miami and South America. I could definitely see them going overboard on representation in the future to the point that it's annoying, but this ain't it.
The only problem I really see is with censorship, like removing the trans jokes. That makes absolutely no sense to me because they lambast people way harder for much more common beliefs and attributes. Removing the drag queens doesn't even make sense from a "social justice" perspective, because it's literally counter-intuitive. To me, that's as unfair as removing everyone who lives on Grove Street because they're black gang members. Just don't apply the stereotype too broadly and you're fine. That doesn't mean stereotypical people suddenly don't exist.
Plus, it's GTA where your character is as demented as the player wants them be, but usually is an immortal, minigun-wielding, mass murderer at minimum. The stupid humor, obnoxious and colorful NPCs, and insane amount of pee pee poo poo jokes is what makes it light.

For me I don't really care, as long as it's a good story. I also don't get why you can't have a choice between male and female, at the end of the day I want to play a character that I can relate to, I don't really enjoy playing with female characters. I think thats a male thing, men prefer to play as men, I don't want to dress a woman up or visit a salon. GTA really isn't a female orientated game, most women wouldn't play it as they're generally more against violence and don't see the attraction in violence. But hey there are definitely women who do love it, thats why a choice would be better IMO. Like the last few assassins creeds have gone or even if they made it where you have two characters and could just do everything as one or the other, not sure how that would work story wise though which is why a choice would be best.
I'm more against GTA cutting the satire though, I don't see what harm the drag queens were really doing its only a joke in one obscure place in a video game. Its not real life ffs. Lets be honest stereotypes aren't even that bad and are based on reality, and also means you can have a higher proportion of representation of different types of people. The problem isn’t with female characters, it’s how they’re written and represented. I love a good female character. I’m a guy and I often choose to play a female character in RPG games like female V in Cyberpunk, Kassandra in AC: Odyssey, Elden Ring and Destiny 2.

Damn to this day I think "judging people based on the content of their character" is such an important line not brought up to this day.
I just want a story I’ll enjoy in a next level crime simulator. I don’t care if I play as a female so long as she isn’t written terribly and given Rockstars writing with Sadie in Red Dead Redemption 2, I’m pretty optimistic about this decision if it turns out to be true. The recent changes to the Expanded and Enhanced versions of the game that include some censorship don’t really matter to me. They don’t change the humor of the overall game. The ONLY thing I am skeptical of is whether or not Rockstar intends to be less offensive with the writing of GTA 6, though given how unintrusive these changes are to the players experience, I don’t think it’s a likely occurrence. I think Rockstar will probably double down on it’s offensive humor since it will now be such a large selling point for the game.
However it just goes to show they're willing to make fun of some, but others are apparently untouchable.

A female protagonist would work if it was something like Catalina from GTA 3 and SA. She had what it takes to be a GTA protagonist and she was female. My problem is that modern western games tend to have really unlikeable female characters. A GTA protagonist is not supposed to be a good person but they should be likeable enough so you can bear playing as them.
Not even likable, but just a well written character, some of my favorite character are absolutely fucking unlikable, but that's because they are well written to be the antagonist, to make you hate them.

I have to say that the humor is a heavy part of GTA. If you take away a lot of the politically incorrect stuff, it's not really the same game.

The story this Latina woman could bring would be interesting since they could project a different place instead of Los Santos like how even the least likely people can connect to a drug cartel thanks to a friendship or marriage to someone in, near or actively involved with the cartel in question.
The game could start with you, the protagonist and your significant other in the streets of a Mexico City inspired town without that dumb yellow filter everyone places over Mexico, then your significant other would be holding casual conversation with you, before mentioning the cartel, when with ironic timing, cartel hit men preform a drive by shooting, injuring you, and killing your significant other. This sends you onto a revenge streak where you can choose to join the cartel and tear it from the inside, or go alone to tear it down the hard way.
This could give GTA a fresh take outside of gangs in Los Santos and introduce multiple endings to the game. Just my thoughts on how they could make a good story

I don't agree. I feel like the scathing criticism of popular and consumer culture is what makes GTA for me. The oppressive atmosphere coupled with the very cruel take on the world GTA IV took is why I loved that game so much. GTA IV for me was the most "GTA" game in the series for me, right beside Vice City. Still loved GTAO, but from a story perspective, you need to be insensitive and crude to accurately convey real characters, especially when said characters are often hardened criminals and drug addicts.

I’d like to believe all is well with GTA but imo I’ve seen some major red flags already.
1. They say it’s gonna be more “culturally sensitive” which sounds like censoring jokes which defeats the whole point of satire.
2. The guy that was writing GTA stories since GTA 3 has left and other highly influential people have left with him. That tells me to expect at least a dip in the quality of the story.
3. They’ve had a “cultural reboot” that means they’re free to push whatever agenda or narrative they want and the crazier they get with these woke ideas, the worse the game will be.

The only time when a minority showing up in media annoys me, its when its not actual representation but pandering. Amazon and Disney are especially awful about it. In my opinion, if you want to have a gay person, trans person, black person, woman, ect in a movie, then make them an actual character. Make them more than just "a minority", make me care about them at least a little. They dont have to be as fleshed out as the main character (unless they are the main character), but at least give them an actual personality and reason to be involved in the story. I hate pandering, not actual representation.

"Wokeness" only really annoys me when a franchise deviates so far from its roots that it becomes unrecognizable, or if it becomes over-emphasized and cringe. Otherwise, if there are "woke" elements in something, I don't really pay much mind to it, because a lot of the things people call "woke" have already been around for years. It's not like we haven't been talking about racism and sexism for the last hundred years. People make way too big a deal out of some of the most petty bullshit things.
Adding a female character into a game is hardly a "woke" thing to do, too. Especially since we've had a choice between male and female characters in open world games for quite a while now, not to mention a variety of races and skin tones.

The part that concerns me is that they are toning down the humor against marginalized groups, it wouldn't be hard to assume that women fall in that category, add on a female protagonist (which I do welcome ) It isn't hard to be concerned about wokeness affecting the quality of the GTA experience.
If they want to make the character with the tough girl archetype, go for something along the lines of Revy from Black Lagoon and you already have a winner template right there, a real badass woman, yet flawed to the core, but still very likeable. With that being said, in this day and age I have low expectations for a well written female character that isn't blatant pandering to the Twitter crowd that'll never buy their product, then again Rockstar did make Bonnie so there IS a bit of hope.

Revvy from black lagoon would be cool but idk how that over the top anime vibe would mesh with the gta world. All I want is for them not to make her the stereotypical “StROnG InDEPenDAnT WoMAN” which is just a woman given negative male characteristics which is played as positive when place onto a female shell. Revvy is cool because whilst she has typical male characteristics I feel that it’s handled correctly, like she’s a person/individual character and not a movement.

The whole point of GTA is being based on the theme of Absurdity. It's meant to be an absurd, everything about it, the story, the NPCs, the in-game culture, the online experience in stories and the only community. Everything about it. Taking that away doesn't make it GTA anymore.
