I know I'm 2 years late to the chat, but I thought the discussion about Girl Scout cookies was pretty interesting. Being a Girl Scout for about 9 years now, I've learned a lot about why the cookies have different tastes and names. There are two different bakers who bake the cookies depending on where you live in the US - Little Brownie Bakers, and ABC Bakers. In the stream, Zedaph and Tango ate cookies from Little Brownie Bakers, and the ABC Bakers equivalent of Tag-a-logs is Peanut Butter Patties, and the equivalent to Samoas are Carmel DeLights (Thin Mints are the same between bakers). Another difference between Somoas and Carmel DeLights is that Samoas have dark chocolate on the bottom, and Carmel DeLights have milk chocolate on the bottom.
(Bonus: My favorite Girl Scout cookies are Peanut Butter Patties, second being the Lemonades.)

the driving thing is such a culture shock. friend had an exchange student from cornwall and when i told him i live only 30 minutes away from them he went "*only* 30 minutes?". he just about died when i mentioned that i'd be doing a 4 hour drive up and back down to to go to a convention for one day. my family does 24 hour drive from east coast to the south-west twice a year to visit family. my work commute is 40 minutes. driving long distance isn't that bad i just put on a podcast and go.
edit: my car is manual... little honda civic coupe. i learned to drive in a old 1980s manual truck. everyone else i know has an automatic, unless they have a fancy "muscle car". i think what makes automatic so popular here is that its just steer and gas, you don't gotta worry about shifting gears because it does it all for you. shifting gears in my car is second nature now and i kinda just know when i gotta shift up or down on the roads around me the same way you know what the speed limit is without looking at the signs when you are familiar with the area.
roundabouts... depends on where you are actually. some people call them roundabouts, i got a friend who calls them roundy-hoovys, i've heard traffic circle, though i've never heard of rotary before. my dad calls them road compasses, sometimes shortened to just compass. "take the third on the compass" means "take the third exit (aka get on the road leading left) at the roundabout".

2:38:57 : Fun science fact about banana flavoring! The reason it tastes so different from actual bananas is because the banana flavoring was based on a variety of banana called the Gros Michelle (not sure I spelled that right). That variety has since gone extinct, and all bananas are now the Cavendish variety, which has a different flavor. So banana-flavored things taste more like an extinct banana you've never eaten than the ones you have :)
Also, around 2:41:00 : I don't know if this is true, but I've *heard* that the reason those biscuits are named Digestives is because they actually were marketed as medicine at first. Kind of. They were marketed as something to improve digestion, hence the name, but then the government was like, "Yeah, no, that's a load of BS and you can't keep falsely advertising like that," so now they're just biscuits but they kept the name.

How do you know Tango is a programmer? He refers to the ISO standard as "the correct way to write dates" :D I am the same way. YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS means you can sort date-times chronologically by sorting them lexicographically. You get no benefits doing it the American or British ways. • @syystomu

It does make a lot more sense and honestly I think we should all switch to that format even in everyday conversation and whatnot. My friend's mom and I were just talking about American vs British chocolate earlier tonight! Which is why I looked it up and I know that there are three main differences. The first is that English law says that to be marketed as "chocolate", it needs at least 25% cocoa solids, while in the US, it needs to be at least 10% chocolate liqueur. The second is that American chocolate has way more sugar in it (I know, surprise surprise). And the third is that American chocolate contains soy lecithin, which is an emulsifier, while British chocolate doesn't. So American chocolate is more emulsified (I guess that would come off as a creamier texture?), sweeter, and has more liqueur substituted for cocoa solids.
As for which is better... I've never tasted British chocolate, so I can't say, and while it usually comes down to personal preference / what you grew up eating, I've heard more Americans say they prefer British chocolate, and almost no Brits say they prefer American chocolate. So I think that speaks for itself.
And I've always pronounced it Nest-lee, by the way, not Ness-uhl XD Never Nest-lay, either, since I'm not posh enough to say it that way lol

@@hugoagogo21 I don't know whether that's true or not (what's the name of the enzyme?), but table salt contains a highly toxic chemical that was once used as a weapon in war, which corrodes your lungs until you die (chlorine). I wish people would stop using the "this contains a thing which is also in this other thing you don't like" comparisons.

@@hugoagogo21 Uh, I just looked it up, and the first thing I found was that it tastes like butter and is found naturally in milk (including breast milk), cheese, and plant oils, and used specifically as a flavoring on its own. Other than already being in milk, it's produced by fermenting sugar with special bacteria. So... not a byproduct of processing milk, it's just already always in the milk in the first place?

I like marmite. But in moderation. Sometimes I’ll put two slices of bread in the toaster and whilst they’re roasting I ponder what I want on them. Usually I’ll have 1 marmite and 1 of something else like strawberry jam or Nutella. But I do consciously choose to have marmite. It’s nice. But you need to spread it properly thin enough. And you have to do the butter immediately as it comes out the toaster so it melts. Then comes the marmite.

RE Roundabouts: I feel like for high traffic, traffic lights are better, cuz in my experience (living in the US), there are roundabouts that aren't even THAT big, but they have high traffic coming through both sides most of the time. Because of the way they work, there's always going to be someone with the "right of way," so if the traffic level is SO high, there's going to be sections of the roundabout that just don't move at all. At least that's my take, from experience only, no education on infrastructure or anything. As zed said, the different lanes of a roundabout would be the most difficult to navigate and there's like. less room for forgiveness for accidents to happen (if that makes sense)

My thoughts on Hytale: I'm cautiously optimistic. My only problem is that so far, we haven't seen any kind of in-game automation/engineering. There's scripting, which is more like command blocks/data packs, and there's tons of mod support, but nothing like redstone. If I wanted to play a game and not code, but still automate farms, doors, or other aspects of my experience, I haven't seen any way to do that in all the teasers so far. But they do seem to be getting everything else spot on, so I'm hopeful that there *will* be an engineering/automation system in the game, we just haven't heard about it yet.
If there is a way to automate farms, etc.... then yeah, Hytale could very easily steal a vast number of players from the Minecraft community. And I'm okay with that.
*EDIT* And if I'd waited 10 more seconds before pausing to write this comment, I'd have heard Tango say basically the same thing XD

One thing I don't like about the UK (speaking as a brit) is that in almost all coffee shops and tea rooms, the staff don't come to your table, you have to get up and order at the till - I think the Americans have that right, they should come to you! The number of times I've been doing some work on my laptop in a coffee shop, and I really don't feel comfortable leaving it there whilst I go and order another coffee, so I have to pack it away, go and stand in line, place another order, wait at the end of the counter, and take it back to my table, by which time someone else has probably grabbed my seat. All the while feeling self conscious that I've packed my things away and am now standing in line again, displaying to the world that I'm fundamentally paranoid.

I can't remember the last time I had a fruit flavored one, though, as I always get the chocolate or cookie dough ones... great, now I think I'm going to *have to* buy some raspberry ones soon, and it's all your fault, you two! >:|

In California as a server you make minimum wage plus your tips. So where I work we get paid $12 an hour and than whatever we make in tips after tipping out our bussers and bartenders. In other states waiters get paid below min wage and rely on tips. It really depends on what state you live in

  • @shadowwolf1762

For me and my family, we don't pay the tip if you don't give excellent service meaning if you have a crappy attitude or you don't care that our food isn't up to our standards then you aren't getting anything. However that being said we aren't that tempermental about our restaurant service.
