She will give you 100 caps and you don't lose any cores, and you can pick them back up!
Quick tip: if you don't have a high hack skill bring nick valentine with you and command him to hack the terminal near the end, he can hack anything and after he's done you just open the door and be on your way

I even jumped up on a shipping container on the middle platform where they couldn't reach me and I got the disease. Either they have a spit attack or they changed the quest to automatically give it to you.

You missed how to recruit Holt Combes which is kind of a big deal since he is one of the few rank 4 settlement vendors! You also missed the 3 turn-in quests for tools, fertilizer and jet.... they can bring you a LOT of caps and are worth mentioning.

I'm worried about how to even pick up the mission to go here in the first place.... surely you don't just walk up and request some missions. there has to be a mission leading up to even getting here in the first place, right?
I use a lot of saves, 50 fragmentation mines and padded or dense armor, if you wait too long or level enough, you will want more mines, because then they can take two fragmentation mines to the face. The skinny guy at the entrance will occasionally call me a monster out of the blue, because I do not have molerat disease, I guess. Do not stealth, you want them to see you, oh, and run it twice, there is usually two that do not pop out on the first runthrough, and they will sometimes trigger Travis telling a story about how the whole place was wiped out, if I remember it right (could be because of a mod)

I did the short stories mission and now I have the projector noise non stop going. I’ve turned the game off, loaded back even before I discovered vault 81 and still the noise won’t go away
If you chase the cat out when it first escapes, you can kill it before it escapes and Deacon will be pissed and hate you for it, but as long as it's real close to the exit grid, nobody will get mad or turn hostile. Also, the little girl never talks about her cat. It's almost as though it never happened. If you however allow the cat to escape, start the quest, then you can go out and find the cat, and if you shoot it, not only will Deacon not be mad, but he even cracked a joke about looting dead bodies when I grabbed the cat meat.
i had piper turn on me in the vault just now. i shot the cat before it left, i wasnt at max affinity with piper and the dialog box came up for piper "send to" without my prompting. as i ran and was hanging out at the front of vault 81, still within vault 81. piper was on her way to where ever (out the vault 81) ànd gunned me down.

You have to find them in a hallway Talking To each other At a late time. Then you want To confront him then. go back to his wife and give her the info. I'm not sure if it's a mission, but i would say you didn't finish Vault 81. Without completing that. From my perspective in all honesty.

If you wander around lukowski's cannery (near top right of the map) you can stumble with a woman with the vault 81 suit and tells you about the vault
Don't activate the protectron in the vault. You can get the mole rat disease if it is attacked. The protectron acts as a companion
no wonder now that im doing the mission i get the disease out of nothing. thanks for the tip and i did that mission with stealthboys mostly

From experience, the use of Terran Republic weaponry in the Commonwealth is also a vary effective solution to this quest. (Ripper).
Use the cryolator form vault 111 it slows the mole rats down and kills them
