As a new single mom to a 5 and 3 year old, and a full-time military nurse, I wanted to say what a fantastic teacher you are! I have become a DIYer in a fast and furious way thanks to my ex leaving and through you I have learned how to cut copper wire to update old bathroom piping, install trim and your videos have even given me the confidence to rebuild our old unsafe rotting deck! I wear a bracelet that says simply 'YOU GOT THIS" and your sign off "you can do this" echos it exactly :) Thank you!
+Aj Feisty Wow, that is so great, AJ. I am really happy that our videos have been such a great help, and I love the words on your bracelet! Regards, Leah
your tutorial is superlative in it's presentation for the weekend carpenter wherein it tells the exact step by step process of the technique in cutting these scarf joints. I just went and checked out a bunch of "finish" carpenters videos which assume I know what I'm doing and casually brush over how to set the wood against the cutting bed. thank you again !!!!
I love your channel, I'm doing a lot of renovations on an old neglected house, i used to work for a contractor so i know how to do most of this, but i need a refresher course on some of it. You have a great knack for teaching, thank you.
I love you Leah! Your videos are my favorite to go to all the time. You explain everything slowly and clearly, so that anyone can follow and understand the instructions. Thank you for your time and all the great videos you publish for us.
Ok, this explains everything I needed to know about extending that molding with a "scarf" joint". I wish I would have listened to my wife an hour ago and 3 cuts ago (with a hand saw). thank you...
Leah does such a fine job of explaining basic carpentry and repair skills that you should watch her videos before any others. She know what she is talking about and how to do it. In this video I would only put out a shout out to 2P-10 CA glue combined with the white glue method we're most accustomed to. It works in place of nailing but still gives the strength of the white glue for joint strength and you can put the piece in place immediately without waiting for the white glue to dry. Well done Leah and thank you for your knowledge.
LOVE Leah from See Jane Drill! Leah, you have helped me through every step of our basement remodeling over the last 6 months. Clear instructions, easy to follow, without being long and rambling like some other videos.
auto play somehow brought me to one of your videos, and although I've been a carpenter long enough that I don't imagine much of the content will be new to me, I can't stop letting your videos play. You have a very pleasant and calming way of communicating which isn't common in itself but coupled with the seemingly straightforward and easy to follow instructions, make you one hell of a teacher. I have tried to imagine that I have zero knowledge of the subject matter for a few of your videos and I believe that you have a very rare gift in regards to teaching. I must agree with the many other commenters that mentioned how easy it would be to imagine a television show hosted by you! I can count on one hand the amount of times that I have commented on UA-cam videos over the years but I felt compelled to lament the feelings of many other's. you have a Mr. Rodgers-Esq quality about you which is relaxing and just makes ya happy! sorry for the novel size comment, thanks for brighting my day and keep up the great work. your teaching skills are surely helping a lot of people. God bless!
Hi Spencer, thank you very much for your thoughtful remarks! It is always nice to hear from a fellow tradesperson. And I appreciate that you tried to imagine watching the videos from the perspective of a novice. Anyway, thank you for brightening my day!
Leah!!!!! Thank you so much! I love doing these things around the house but have been afraid to try. I am finishing a closet in an unfinished area of my house and I am going to give it a try there. I will be looking at your other videos as my resident tutor. I am going to share it with anyone who will listen! Blessings and thanks for your detailed, patient, and clear explanations!
Every video you do teaches me something new, Especially the ones on how to do something I've already done. Glue? Studs? Dang, wish I'd found your channel *before* installing all new trim. Lesson learned: Before attacking any new house project, see what wisdom Leah has to offer about it! ~A.P.
You are AMAZING! Your instructions are clean, precise, and simple to follow; you break down instructions so they are easily grasped and presented in an order that a dummy like me can comprehend - so glad I found your tips!
We aren't working on our home yet, but I want to start learning how to do things around the house and your videos are great. You explain things very well and show all the necessary angles.
I love watching your videos and have learned a lot from them. You don't just tell people how to do something, you explain the why and how in a way that is very easy to understand. Thank you!
Lea! I love how you do your videos!!!! I can understand you, you have a pleasant voice and a kind attitude. I feel like even I can do this stuff! This video was exactly what I was looking for to finish my trim in my living room. THANK YOU!!
I like how you explain everything so anybody can understand, none of that fancy talk, thank you, your videos have been alot of help to me and my husband.
You were using the exact same chair rail I was working with. As always: simple to the point explanation and demonstration, which are easy to follow. I would like to add that it is not necessary (in my humble opinion/experience) to place the scarf joint on top of a stud unless one happens to be where you need to join a new piece of molding. Crown molding is fairly light and held in place at multiple fastening points, which should be studs. It may be more cost-effective and time-efficient to just place joints as they occur.
You saved me some money. I bought crown molding and thought I could do it. Got frustrating not being able to cut. I was ready just to pay some one to do it. But Between you and another channel I figured it out! Only took 4 hours but I got it down! Thanks a ton
Lea, thank you. You are so detailed very helpful. My daughter and I are working on wainscot with baseboard and chair railing soon and will be watching your video again.
Your channel is going to be my new addiction. My hubby and I are just getting into house flipping and will be doing a lot of the fix up work ourselves. Your tips are fantastic!!! I'm sure they're going to be more useful to us than any tool we could buy!!!
I am so glad to have found your UA-cam channel. Your instructional videos are wonderful. You are very skilled at not only the work you are performing, but also at explaining in simple and easy to understand terms the how and why of your work. Thank you so much for posting these. Keep up the good work.
It is very refreshing to find a video that explains things so clearly for those of us that try our hand at DIY. Many thanks, I am now a subscriber. Keep up the good work.
Leah, thank you so much for the way you explain the whole process and offer reasoning behind certain steps. I am getting ready to so this with my son at his house and would have missed the part about landing the scarf joint on a stud.
You are my hero! I sure wish I had ALL the fun tools you must have. My one room project is being done with a cheap plastic miter box. Oh well, it will just have to do! Thank you, once again for the videos you have taken the time to make.
Mme these tips are never revealed by selfish woodworking people. Now you are here explaining clear and nice how to do it. This is priceless Thank you so much!!
maximus cholencus I totally agree with you plus they got a free lesson. Some people you can never please. Make it so bad, it came out PERFECT so why didn't little ms. emily miller go to another site if she wasn't satisfied. Geesh.
seejanedrill Ms. Seejanedrill, sometime you can help some people no matter how you try. Yet emily miller could have taken her arrow and kept scrolling to another page that she liked, but had to comment negatively on your perfection. Keep doing what you do because your videos are straight to the point and on point. That's what you call a hater and on top of it all, you didn't even need the caulking.
Great tip! Measure from the stud so the scarf joint can be nailed. This video plus the video on coping -- I'm ready to finish my basement. Thanks Leah!
Leah, just watched your video as I needed to figure out how to make the transition on my molding. Great job on visuals and your instructions... Thank you! Kevin C.
awesome collection of videos, I've already used your advise for installing plasterboard and taping joints. My effort was not perfect but my mum couldn't believe it was me who did it. next task is skirting, your videos will def. help. you seem like such a lovely lady please keep posting. thank you!
just run out of money for the renovation of my apartment , from now on I have to do all by myself. Great tips Leah love your explanation of the work involved.
Scarf joint ! Ahhhhh.... so that’s how it’s done You’re awesome. Very helpful. I’m installing my first set of interior French doors with glass side lights and a glass overhead transome. I need to put a decorative 3” wide chair rail molding between the overhead transome window and the doors & sidelights. Lowes Home Center only had the decorative chair rail piece in 8’ lengths. Naturally I need a piece that’s 8’-4”.... A scarf joint - nailed to a stud behind it looks like the way to go ! Thanks for the helpful video
LOVE IT !! You "SHOW" your work, you go into detail, such as, "this joint needs to be nailed here, and therefore you need to make your joint where there is a stud' AND you don't make me feel like an idiot. KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING !!! I am subscribing !

your tutorial is superlative in it's presentation for the weekend carpenter wherein it tells the exact step by step process of the technique in cutting these scarf joints.
