Around 6:50 a officer threatens a citizen with arrest for disturbing the peace, which by law. She can not be the complaintive. A private citizen has to claim a damage by the loud noise to their business. Then there is the 1st amendment. Which allows you to assemble peacefully. This could be musical or political musical views. Expression without complaint is why we are free in the country. This lady needs to make a public apology or be reviewed by the local DA

20 year veteran LEO here, and it kills me that the officer responded, " do you want to go to jail for disturbing the peace?" That is such BS. The 1A protectes an individuals right to protest government actions. You can't go to jail for voicing your opinion loudly. This officer needs an education.

I would have waited till the song was over to talk to the dude. Turned around and talked to the complainant informing them no ordinances breached, you can just like him perform to your audience's delight. Always the diplomat if at all possible, ignore the stupid going on, well unless it's endangering someone.
She was high on her authority, that as it turns out didn't have the law on her side. Unfortunate indeed. I cringed when she responded like that and of the many officers I know none would have behaved that way or chosen to error on the side of throwing their weight around on crowd that was really quite tame. Who did she think she was benefiting by responding that way? Certainly not herself or the public perception of Sarasota police. If her department is anything less that a complete s_thole she is in for a reaming and some training time. Public perception matters more today than ever for officers. Your department funding, tools etc comes from tax dollars that can be effected by that negative perception. While any public employee hatesto have someone go all "my taxes pay your wage....." It is important to remember that when you could piss off a lot of people at who's pleasure you serve. We need police, and we need them to have good funding and tools to do a good job of keeping the community safe and stable for business and the economy to be stable and dependable. It's real easy for people to loose site of that when officers act like their power comes from dint of birth or something.

Dovydas has some insightful comments to make about being under contract. He participated in a show like "Got Talent" when he was very young, and lucky for him the producers were new and did not yet have an industry standard contract, or he could have screwed up his career for years. He knows how dangerous it can be for a young person to get bound up to a contract, especially of the company drags their feet, another thing which has happened to him already concerning a custom guitar he designed.

I could see if there were several then maybe step in but it was one bitch that caused this and she (you know it was a crabby 50+ woman) should be billed for the service the police provided her. I remember back in the late '70s jamming with a little band out on a patio in a residential area, and one person in the neighborhood complained. A cop had to answer the call and intervene, but he actually sat back and listened for a while first lol! In fact, he told us if we would turn it down even a little (we weren't playing very loud anyway), he would go back and tell the cranky neighbor that there was nothing more he could do. But we shut it down anyway. No point making enemies, y'know?

Restaurants and shops in the area should be paying him as he is bringing life to the city and people are happy to come and listen and then they go to the shops and food places.
Unfortunately you get a few who want things their way only and object to music or the style of music and put in a complaint, the police have to do their job. I would think the majority of people don't have a problem with him but sometimes the minority has the loudest voice, sadly.
Get the permit and then they'll come out with meters to control how loud you can go and threaten with a fine.
Keep it up and don't stop you are amazingly talented and the public needs to hear you. It's a sad world we live in sometimes.

Can you imagine having to do your job because someone complained and you're having to be that one to go up and tell that person knowing that the crowd is probably going to be totally against you when that should never be that people will have become more childish and ignorance to our police officers and all that they do that they're so underpaid but they chose to do this job and they don't complain about it and they work actually 2 to 3 jobs. Because they felt the call to do that not the call to Power Trip... Again there's going to be bad people in every profession but that doesn't make all of them bad and if these people here would have listened to the conversation you would see that she's not a bad person...
