YOU HAVE A POINT….
You kinda got me thinking now
Mike Rowe should be our labor secretary. I couldn't believe it the first time I gave someone a job as a business owner, I was taxed. Every worker should stand up and demand companies get incentivized to employ people, not taxed.
That's a great idea
Agreed. Which means trump won’t. Expect more disloyal neocon idiot appointments that can get passed a senate approval.
Very nice idea. Lower the tax rate, build that border wall.
Why would there need to be incentives for employers when there is a shortage of workers?
@@sabinereynaudsf So they can afford to hire employees. Our government taxes us at every corner.
My dad, who was a trained classical violinist, made his living as a house painter. He loved books and ideas, and he took a lot of pride in the houses he painted.

Secretary for the Department of Labor??? Mike Rowe should strongly be considered. He gets it.
I started a locksmith business in 1990. By 1995, I was bringing home just under 300K on sales of 595K. Ever since, I have not made less than 6 figures. I had 4 vans, 8 staff. Sold the business for just under 1 million in 2000. Started a manufacturing business in 1995. Did 2.5 million in the 5th year in gross. Took home 500K for a few years. I turned down a full ride to MIT in 1983 and just decided that I knew I could do well, with the sweat of my brow and the strength of my back. I still have the manufacturing business. Just me and the wife. Never below 6 figures and we work 2-3 days per week.
Mike Rowe is a national treasure. There aren’t many like him around. 😢
Obama told everyone 'Learn to Code'. Now with 26 years experience, I can't find a job, because there aren't any unless you work for the government.
That's their goal!
And good luck if you’re not in a certain demographic
Then what else did you learn?
A great piece of wisdom I learned over 50 years ago seems to apply somehow to your dilemma. I know nothing about writing code but see if this gives you an avenue to explore.
No situation is corrected by the same mindset that created it. The answer is to create a new paradigm that makes the old one obsolete.- Buckminster Fuller
Every generation takes the advice of the previous generation which cause things to repeat. Novelty is the only way to shift the needle in your favor. Identify a need and then generate a novel process to fill the need. That is your template generally to get out from being steered by others' agenda. Hope it helps!
@@markperron851 I actually have a job, just it's not steady, but the pay is good. Job markets always change with supply and demand. I had a friend tell me about 15 years ago, Java programmers were turning down $150 - $200 an hour, because they had to wear a tie.
We need the guys and gals that do the jobs we all can't or don't want to!!! I'm all for trade schools!

Mike Rowe is absolutely correct. I ran a workroom as part of a prestigious project for a famous ballet company. I had 7 employees in the workroom and their sewing skills were abysmal. All of this "I've got a degree" bollocks is nonsense when you can't actually do the job. Power to you Tucker 👍
Mr Rowe is a legend. What an excellent point. This is constant notion that people that go into the trades are people which didn't get the grades to go to university.
This PR completely neglects people which genuinely want to go into the trades and are also intellectually curious hungry and inquisitive people
My story - Hard at work paying my way through a Canadian university, I left school after three years of a four year degree with Dean's list standing each year. With a reference from my father and good interviewing skills, I landed a five year apprenticeship in the printing industry. After mastering the operation of a laser scanner, I got a company to sponsor my immigration to San Francisco. A year later I was living and working in Hawaii. Several years later I returned to San Francisco to work for PC World magazine and later was hired as the Imaging & Color Manager for the Hearst Corporation dba SF Chronicle newspaper where I worked for eight years. My last job at 64 years of age was running a CNC milling machine manufacturing custom eye glasses. Service to others over service to self is the key.
I have tremendous respect for Mike Rowe. He has genuine vision. He saw the shortage of candidates applying for much needed fields years ago and has been making it known that resources exist for school. God Bless Him.
I believe Mike Rowe is right about this upside-down economy

What a conundrum that the people that really deserve to represent us are nowhere near the government.
I worked for a power company. Was not allowed to get an apprenticeship simply because my High School Math 15 years before sucked. I knew how to do the job, wire street lights, traffic lights ect in my sleep. It put me into a depression. Its too bad we are so focused on a piece of paper over skill and aptitude. A decade later I still know how to do these things in my sleep. But no way anyone would ever hire me even as a 1st year apprentice.

None of those trades are willing to work with the family man. Every one of those jobs you mentioned take the man from his home and replace him with a paycheck. They burn him up like a brakes on a semi truck.
Figure out how to not wear people out like a pair of shoes, pay them a wage they can’t walk away from, and you’ll have your workforce.

My grandfather was a war refugee that fought in every campaign on 3 continents from 1939 ... He warned me of the Communist coma .
It is acceptable to shout "Pay Teachers More", but somehow unacceptable to point out that those jobs are 3/4 of the year. Also not popular to point out the power of the corrupt teachers unions. Why is it necessary to have Union Government Jobs?

Plumbers, electricians, and table makers are ripping off the average homeowner as well.
Contractors are just as filthy.
People got so comfortable they don't understand what it takes to keep society running 24 hrs a day 365 days a year.
I believe it was Einstein who said "if I could do it all over again, I'd be a plumber"
Mike is the embodiment of this notion.

Obama: let them eat cake
Mike is so right. I work manual labor all day, but im blessed in that I can listen to any education i want to for 10 hours a day. So I'm studying while being paid.
We need "jack of all trades" too
Tucker, in line with Mikes comment about, "we need more philosophers who can run an even bead", you might want to consider having Chad O. Jackson on your podcast. He is a researcher, plumber, father, husband, and conservative who speaks from a biblical perspective about social issues in America.
Labor jobs are the contribution to society. Big time. And, rewarding.
The Talmud has a saying that it is shameful.... SHAMEFUL... to work with your hands. That means you are a failure. There's something disgusting about that.
meanwhile King Solomon wrote about how satisfying it was to accomplish things with one's own hands.
The Talmud is exactly what Yeshua Messiah vehemently fought against. The Talmud is a book of manmade rules and traditions that many times, in fact most of the time diametrically opposed the Torah - the instructions Yehovah gave to Moses - TaNaK an acrnim for the Torah, the Propels and the historical writings. The Torah - doctrine or what to do, the Prophets - how to do it and the historical writings - what happens when you fail to do it.
If no one works with their hands...civilization...and even uncivilized society...can't exist. Someone has to make the bread. Someone has to build the shelter. And if you're Italian like me...someone has to talk. Everyone that works...uses their hands. There's absolutely no shame in working to provide for your family.
It's metaphorical about how sacred are the hands.
When you work with your hands you are closer to God and His creations!

My deceased grandfather was a dredge captain and an amateur woodworker. He acquired a huge cypress stump on one of his work trips and made several slab tables that would dwarf Tucker’s. I so admire people who create and fix things.
Yes. This is the direction we need to be going.
I wish I would of taken this advice. The issue is when you go a traditional route and then the “good jobs” dry out. You end up being 40 and having to start over. Meanwhile people with jobs that have been seen as less then or laborious are just thriving. Nothing worse then starting over in your middle aged years. Listen to this guy Mike Rowe he is telling the truth.
We need more on the job training! I went to work for big corporation when I was 18 and ended up retiring from that same corporation 30 year later. After I retired I worked a contractor for that corporation and others like it all over the country. The reason I could do that was because theses corporations started hiring only people with college degrees and expecting them do be able what we did the first day on the job.
