    Hi Vladimir. Great video again. Helped me so much with updating my retrofited F07.
    PS: Probably the speed of your connection between Laptop and Enet cable was 100Mbit, thats why you achieve maximum of 10MB/s It should be 1GB, only then is possible to make more than 11.2MB/s

      I do recommend to do full software update at least once after a car is ish 5 years old.
      By that time all bugs have been sorted out.
      There is no point to make full SW update every month (like you do on your phone)

    Hi, Vladimir!
    First of all, I thank you for all the content you create, sharing your knowledge and precious experience. Your lessons allow to learn how to understand and maintain your BMW yourself, not only mechanically, but also in electronic components. Thank you very much for this!
    If possible, answer a couple of questions (F series chassis):
    1) If head unit (entry, nbt…) connected to third party «Carplay box» like MMI Prime or something else…
    It is safe for flashing this ecu? or i need disconnect everything to stock and then flash?
    2) If i want to flash only one single ecu, for example ZGM. After flashing, car go to transport mode and i need initialization airbag, windows, dampers..?
    Or airbag initialization only after flashing ACSM, dampers initialization after flashing VDC and so on..?
    3) I'm looking forward to the video on how to properly work with the retrofitted ecu.
    I install 6wa (2015-07 production) in my F31 with i-step 2013-07-501. Everything works fine, but only cruise function «cannot be activated».
    It would be very interesting to listen and learn some new nuances for yourself.

      Hi,
      You are welcome.
      Some answers:
      1) about all third party things… hard to say how they could affect the programming process. Because different brands might treat signals differently. So some more caution wouldn’t harm
      2) not always… for example airbag locking will be needed only after ACSM reflash.
      Window relearn will be needed only after BDC reflash etc
      3) That will be one of the future topics.

    Great video again. I’m waiting so long for this 😁 but I’m happy that you did it now. I miss a tutorial for using a ICOM with Esys. Can you create a small video how to setup the esys for this?
    And other questions runs the update over the Gateway without an issue but you was not connected via DIREKT Profil?

      Never connect via DIRECT if you are working with the car (not ecu on the bench)
      Icom is easy to connect to esys. There are some useful tips I might dare in future videos.

    Nice video! ZGW can be updated via ENET but you need DHCP server on your computer. I'm waiting for video about updating retrofitted ECUs. Maybe you can also say something about reprogramming ECUs that already have newest software? I had case in my F11, I've retrofitted 6WA and flash with newest software. Everything was fine for few months, and suddenly display in 6WA starts flickering sometimes and error about "graphic card" appeared. At the end I've reprogrammed KOMBI with the same version of firmware and issue is solved. But in meantime I've bricked the KOMBI due to differences between HWEL version (which I didn't noticed).

    I have more retrofits in my F11 and all of them have update so if I understand well this is not procedure to flash/program of retrofited ecus, am I right?
    if yes I hope that next part of E-sys for dummies will be soon :P

      Updating retrofitted ECUs is exactly the same process. With an exception that those should be updated separately based on another VO (if retrofit required changes in VO)

    Thank you for nice video, very useful. It's also worth to mention that beside the connected external power supply to the vehicle, your PC also should have sufficient battery level or also should be connected to the external power supply, otherwise in certain moment of time you PC might go to sleep or shut down completely due to low battery level:-)

      Such thing as sleep mode should be turned off on a laptop you a programming BMWs
      And of course knowing your tools (battery state) is just a part of professionalism.

    Im about to flash my HU to get CarPlay fullscreen in my X1 2020 and you make my life easier with your content!
    Question: do the readings , savings and calculations (FA, SVT, TAL...) generates any changes whatsoever or not? I was wondering if I can poke around before do the flashing.
    PS: ill use another car running to charge the battery during the flashing.

      Until you press START no changes are made to the car. So you can play around safely.
      Using another car as additional power supply is better than nothing, but far from ideal solution!

    Another great video. I'm almost done fixing this basket case 328i, which had an unreadable FEM module and incorrect FA. Rebuilt from scratch using EsysUltra, thank you for the recommendation. The EsysUltra support team is very responsive. Now I need the video for different HWEL. Any time soon?

      You can program as many ECUs at a time as you want.

    Hi, I really appreciate your work and thanks for sharing... I take this opportunity to ask you for help. On my 116 f20 2015 the DSC is having problems in the rain. Do you think a software update would be useful? Or if I physically change the DSC pump with a second hand one, do I just need to use the same procedure as in the video or are there additional parameters? A thousand thanks

      Software update cannot cure physical errors.
      Same procedure will help, but actually just coding will be enough. No programming is needed.

    One question, After applying changes to an ECU (changing parameters) or to VO/FA coding shouldn't i run the "Steuern_routine" and "Steuergeräte_reset" (Control unit reset) functions in Tool 32 software?

      Tool32 is not needed. ECU is making restart automatically during the coding process.

    Why you dont use dhcp server then start it and then make connections with enet cable thats what i do always when using enet cable and updating ecus on g series, then most of the time its using http server because of internetconnection i have sometimes via wifi from my home or mobile hotspot from my phone

    Great video Vlad, is the process same when you update replaced NBT non EVO on F10, you mentioned that the process is different for retrofitted units.

      Yes! When updating retrofitted ecu make sure the FA is modified according to your retrofit! Because the FA saved in the vehicle might be different!
      Also make sure HWEL and HWAP are black before update. Otherwise you will fail 100%

      ​@@BimDocThanks for the tip, the car had the same HU_NBT but was replaced with the same type of HU due to malfunction, than i tried to generate FSC codes with HU tools, patched with usb imported with e-sys and all of the FSC codes was rejected and ofcorse the navigation not activated - grayed out, this is the reason i want to try flashed first than to try with another set of codes purchased from reseller.

    After seeing yours and other professionals' comments on ECU updates I have this ultimate question in my head:
    Should I border on updating my ECUs if there are no noticeable issues with my car?
    Let's debate:
    A:
    -If it isn't broken, don't fix/update it.
    -Newer doesn't mean better.
    -Dealers don't update ECUs unless they are trying to fix something.
    B:
    -What if some parts are not working properly but you just don't realize(like airbags, transmission speed)? And updating ECUs can fix them?
    -Newer usually means better.
    -Updates are there because they are for you to update, not 'not to update'.
    You can see people debating over this topic on forums due to the fact that BMW hardly ever reveals what's inside a specific update, thus people are making assumptions based on their experiences and logic.
    Which side you're standing with?

      I do support option B
      Because you cannot see with your eye how SW is working most of the times.
      BUG fixes might be minor but very important.
      Also I do not recommend to update your bmw as your phone every now and then.
      Make it once or maximum twice to heal all important bugs and you will be okay.

      Esys will turn off the engine

    Thanks to this video, I updated my BMW GS850 bike. I wanted to do it using ista+ because it is much easier, but I couldn't cope with the voltage emulator. I have an enet cable that did not detect voltages. Slowly, step by step, I did what was shown in the video and I succeeded. At the end, there were a lot of errors, unfortunately ISTA+ could not remove them, it did not detect the ignition. Fortunately, I removed all the errors using Esys.

    Thanks Vladimir, I found this link very useful. Unfortunately, my G82 system did not successfully update because a Serialization of NCD objet failed CAFD MDG1-CAD_Bosh wouldn't update.

    Hi Vladimir, when my istep version is something from year 2017 and i want to do some FA/CAFD coding, do i need to have appropriate psdzdata for that istep or is it OK to use the latest 4.45.3*, please? Spasibo.

    Awesome content !!! My only comment is (if not already commented below), but in your Step 2 regarding cables and power connections, you do not mention that the laptop also needs to be able to stay alive for the duration of the programming. A 3-hour programming session may kill many laptops, if only on battery, so I expect that their power supplies are also not connected.

      Yes, of course laptop has to stay alive.

      It is worth it. But there are some limitations for to RAM difference you need to know ahead.

      @@BimDoc I have been thinking really hard on what to do, in my case I think it won’t be a problem, I will use mainly CarPlay and in last case radio.
      On my actual nav system I never did a routed trip, I just open the map to help me guide.
      The problems that I know it is the crash’s using the navigation on id6 because of the ram, and it could happen random reboots but also from what I heard, it’s just using the navigation.
      From what I seen the retro from id4 to id6 would be still quite expensive and the mmi still lags a bit. I was also looking for the id6 sound drivers, I heard it improves a bit the quality

      It is bare minimum!
      Is car battery is in a good shape and charged then that power supply might be okay.
      Recharging the battery will reduce the risk of failure in case of voltage dips

    Could you tell more about dependencies? For example: if i were to update an entrynav2 for it to be able to support carplay, is it enough to only check the box of entrynav? Or are there also other ecu’s that are to be checked? I dont want to wait for it to update ALL the ecu’s when the goal is only to install carplay afterwards. Thank you and keep it up!

      It depends of the amount of the ECUs in the car and the state of a battery 🪫
      Typical is around 30-40 Amps
      But sometimes values 70-90 are also present

      Yes it is doable via Chiptuning.
      You can just set VMax to 30kmh
      But the you will be unable to accelerate over 30 km/h

      Very good catch!
      It’s because I have updated FZD ECU on that care behind the scenes to make sure that car will not give me surprises.
      So there is no point to update it again with the same software. That was the only reason!
      If using ENET then always connect via VIN

    10Mbps sounds like a network interface setting.
    100Mbps would have supported 70Mbps.
    So if thats the case before starting, Go to Windows Start, Run, type Cmd, type ipconfig /all
    See your current interface Speed, if it is 10Mbps you'll probably need to manually set it to 100Mbps

      Settings were on auto negotiate. It’s a good question why some cars prefer slower speed as by default. And if you manually set higher speed then sometimes SW update just fails due to ECU not responding ((

      This is a common situation with NIC. The ASIC in one may not negotiate well with another manufacturer. I've seen this with all types of makes in the network realm. It mostly comes down to either finding a sweetspot directly connected or utilizing different NIC makes when possible which can include inserting a switch between the conneciton. Not always fun but that's what we do!

      Да можно, но из-за разницы в istep могут появится аномали.
      Вариант 1: обновить и посмотреть будет ли все окай. Если нет поднять и остальные блоки
      Вариант 2: посмотреть зависимости модулей друг от друга и тогда будет видно можно обновлять ПО в одном модуле или нет.

      With a new car (the one you haven’t worked before) it is good idea to update 1 ecu to begin with. And if all goes well then update the whole car.

    Speed issue is Laptop Ethernet auto negotiation failing back to 10mbit / half duplex so low transfer speed. This is because of the two different Ethernet standards used ( automotive 100b T1 standard verse normal 100bt tx Ethernet). In the windows Ethernet adaptor look at properties and got to speed and duplex . Set it for 100mbits full duplex when connecting BMWs over basic enet cable. This should stop the speed dropping back to a missed matched condition that has slower upload speed. For home network / office network put it back to auto negotiate. I’m an older IT network engineer.       I was playing with that parameter already. And noticed that sometimes programming is even aborted until I set half duplex 10 mbs. But yes speed is slower then, but it helps to recover some ECUs

      @@BimDoc Ideally you want the duplex mode to be matched on the ecu and the laptop also. Best Ethernet performance is when both end match. It’s like a two way road. Half duplex is like a shared single road. Performance problems occur when they are miss matched. A single road shared road connecting to a two way road causes a lot more mismatched collisions to occur. There is a network packet analyser app called wire shark. Loading this lets you see if network errors are occurring. On or two errors is ok. But a large error count will indicate ether a duplex mismatch or the ecu isn’t up for being flashed at a higher speed so like you say , some work better at 10 Mbits/sec. But do try looking at the network packets with wire shark and you’ll quickly work out what network speed and duplex works best for a given device ecu or BMW component to get the fastest possible flash or complex coding time.

    Thanks for this perfect description. I was able to update my 2018 G30 from S15A-17-03-509 to S15A-24-532 (NBTevoK17052I > NBTevoY23236I) without any problems due the update process. I have the Apple Car Play as factory option, but somehow after the update it shows no more CarPlay in the iDrive. Also, when I connect my phone, it just asks if I want to connect with CarPlay (Wifi) but afterwards its just the standard Bluetooth audio connection. Do I need to activate the CarPlay option? I made all the Ista+ Service steps for the Tele/Connected Drive Systems, without any errors. Hope You can help. Thanks, Christian

    Полностью обновил прошивку на своем X5 G05
    Хочу выразить огромную благодарность за этот труд и дополнить видео:
    В процессе прошивки у меня записались все блоки, кроме MGU, в результате в конце я получил ошибку "Tal-execution "not successfully" finished" [G200], MGU загорелась синим экраном с сопровождением гонга ошибки BMW, в тот момент я решил что запорол блок и повторная попытка прошить не помогала.
    Помогло следующее - в Expert mode при выборе TAL / SVT Target / FA первые 2 я выбрал из сохраненных файлов, а FA нажал Read FA (VCM), не знаю было ли это причиной, но с 3го раза блок MGU зашился успешно.
    Далее при сканировании и удалении массы ошибок ISTA+ в памяти осталась одна - 028080 Instrument Panel: Certificates (type1) not ready. Здесь я решил что придется заново вшивать сертификат MGU, но ошибка оказалась ложная.
    Закрыл ISTA+, открыл E-sys - Comfort mode - Certificate management - Read SVT (ECU) - Start Data check - все сертификаты отобразились со статусом "OK"
    Далее снова открыл ISTA+ с полным сканированием и ошибка ушла! Все ячейки зеленые!
    Владимир, вы не просто свет, а прожектор знаний в этой теме, я делал это в первый раз и все удалось. Спасибо!
    Хочу подчеркнуть - не вздумайте делать эту манипуляцию без источника резервного питания типа GYS FLASH, вы высадите батарею и испортите машину.

    Hi, I have a bmw GT 5 series F07. Recently I replaced the complete lockset which I got from an F10 with same engine. Now the challenge is that the car can start but everything else isn't working properly. The car can't engage gears, all the lights on the cluster are showing, the air shocks are down, central locking isn't working and many more.
    I have esys and enet cable but I don't know how to load the vehicle order or anything. Please advise

      You can still use it, but connect it through the router, not directly.
      Other wise flashing HU will be veeeery slow (4 days to flash nbt evo for example)

Скорее всего всё зависит от уровня интеграции прошивки блока, и я буду благодарен тому кто подскажет как добавить эти параметры или какая прошивка нужна чтобы появился список источников света.     Hello. i tried to flash the ecu with your guides. Everything went great except ACSM and HU_Champ. My car is bmw f10 series 5.
    After flashing ACSM, it showed the TAL calculation successfully finished, and all the bootloader, hardware and software of ACSM show black color. but I tried to scan with ISTA by ICOM, the yellow indication shows up "control unit not lock". What should I do now to fix the error. Is there any way to re-programing the ACSM

    I had this experience when deploying microprocessor emulators, driven by Ethernet on standalone PCs:
    1- already let the PCs manage with the @ APIPA (the 169.254.xx.xx) when there is not DHCP: it's a bit random: it is preferable to put fixed @ on both sides. Unfortunately it's impossible on the cars.
    2- Leaving the PC in autonegotiate often leads to random dialogue because the auto must also be in autonegotiate and they cannot be heard because it is not made to work like this:
    . either the frequency is not not the right one (one is in 10Mb and the other in 100Mb)
    . or the protocol is not the right one (eg: one is in half-duplex and the other is in full-duplex.).
    I suppose that the cars can work at 100Mb/sec (2 pairs wires), so the solution (which worked when I had this problem to solve) is to impose one side at 100Mb/sec and FULL-DUPLEX on the copper link ethernet driver. So the other side (the car) will adapt with out problem to these parameters and link is optimal.
    There are approximately 10 bits for one byte, the maximum speed that we can obtain will be ~10Mbytes/second.
    I have also a question to ask you: to add the SLI option (SA8TH) on my car with E-Sys:
    . it seems that there are some "dependencies" between the ECUs, (here: HU, KOMBI and KAFAS2), also it is necessary to CODE the ECUs in a particular order: my question is how to know the order in which the coding must be done? is there any function who can inform me on that in E-Sys ?

      About the coding sequence. There is no dependencies in coding sequence. You just need to code all three of those ECUs in the end and you will be good.

      You cannot make software backup via esys before flashing.
      That’s why flashing (programming) is a dangerous process!
      The only way to make a backup is to disassemble that ecu and make a readout on the bench. (Obviously very time consuming job)

      2. I got two errors (yellow error) in CAS and FRM when scanning with ISTA+. Is that a problem when updating or I just need to update the ECU (green) without errors only?
      3. Why don't we do the flashing (update software) via ISTA+ with ICOM connection. Why do we have to the flashing via Esys?

    why you load FA but not use that option have read fa also if i need do software updated only for DME same way do...

      Looks like it is some kind of local regulation.
      Because there is no such thing on 99% of the bmw.

    Владимир, здравствуйте. А обновлять все модули безопасно? На g-серии, особенно на новых машинах нет проблем с bdc и atm? Не «отвалятся» они?

      На самых новых софтах на G серии уже есть модули которые требуют coding 2.0
      Тоесть обычным Esys вы уже ничего не сделаете.
      Так что будет осторожнее
