In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to cut out the inside and outside of stamped images using the Brother Scan N’ Cut. I used the Basket Bunch retired stamp set by Stampin’ Up. I stamped the basket in Soft Suede ink onto Whisper White card stock. I used a blade depth of 5.
To cut the inside, I used the Scan to Cut Data feature. I used the second option which saves the inside and outside of the basket. I zoomed in, dragged away the parts of the basket I didn't wish to cut, went back into editing mode and deleted them. This process saved just the inside shape of the basket. I saved it to my machine.
Next, I returned home, selected the Pattern feature and retrieved the saved basket data. Then, I scaled that down and cut out the shape. Because the shape was smaller than the original, there appears to be an outline distance or border around the inside of the basket. After cutting the inside, I returned home again. I scanned the image again, this time using the Direct Cut feature. I cut out the basket with an outline distance which matched the inside distance.
At this point, I removed the image from the mat to show my crafty friends the finished product. What may seem like a lot of steps is worth it in the end because your cut images will look professional and you will not need to spend time fussy cutting. Thank you for explaining what the buttons mean as you go along. I'm new to this and sometimes get stumped by the wording in relation to the buttons. It helps to know the info of what they mean. Thank you for the series of videos....they are very helpful to see and watch! Sometimes I mass produce cards to donate to an organization called Cards for Soldiers.....it will be very helpful to cut four card bases at a time instead of cutting down the sheets with my paper cutter.

I will have to wrap my head around this to duplicate it. This is awesome! I know you have tried to do this but you did not get a border around the inside. This is exactly what I would like to do.
Thanks, there are a lot of steps and I'm doing this the only way I know how - scaling down the saved data. I just wrote a long video description, outlining the steps so that should help. I know this is pretty advanced but trying to fussy cut the inside of a basket would be a lot harder than this. I have an idea for how to mass produce these which would be something I could share at another time.

It might be a stupid question but I am a newer with Scan and cut. What happen it you cut the basket as it is, instead on unlayering .
Lilette, no question is a stupid question. It is how we all learn. Two things could happen. If you stamp the handle separately, you would get just a big U shape cut out. The basket would also be a separate cut out. If your handle is touching your basket, you would get one big shape with the white section still in the middle. Both options are still cute. I just prefer the open basket.

Thank you for your awesome videos! I have binge wached a lot of your videos lately! I don´t have ScanNCut yet, but I´m hoping to buy one soon. I was just wondering can your scanNcut scan images like the ones where you stamp a flower with multiple colors of ink and that don´t have a solid black outline (Altenew for example)? I would be using my ScanNCut only to cut out stamped images and don´t need wifi, so I´m wondering do I need to buy the ScanNCut 2 which says that it can read colors to cut out those kind of images or does the cheaper version work as good?

I"m curious why the tape didn't cut. When I scan my images, the tape cuts too. How did you do that. BTW, loved the video.
Carolyn Marentette Thanks for watching Carolyn! The tape does get selected too and the ScanNCut would cut it. However, I selected and deleted it in editing mode. In the case of Scan to Cut Data, you can add the tape later and it is not saved.

Oh yes, the entire basket was cut in ONE piece. I actually have the thinlits too but I love how the ScanNCut cut the inside and outside of the basket for me in just one piece.
Thank you so much for finding this video. Unfortunately my stamped image is not tracing solid line but more wiggley lines that connect into other parts of the stamped image. So i'm going to trace them again but with a thicker pen and see if I can get the scan n cut to recognize only the lines I traced over again. I get so frustrated with stamped images for the scan n cut to cut out. Most time the lines are only partial or wiggley just randomly connecting into other part of the stamped image. The images look clear and crisp but for some reason the scan n cut just don't seem to recognize the lines fully.
Okay the first time I outlined the images (just the lines I wanted cut) was with a pitt pen which we know did not work! The second time I outlined with a 0.7 posca pen and it worked great! Again I only traced over the lines I wanted cut, though it did pick up some of the other lines, it was nothing like with the first trace. Thank you for all the video tutorial you put out, maybe you can do one on what I did as another option for people :) With rheumatoid arthritis in my hands any cutting or tracing is rather difficult why hubby got me the scan n cut....but i've had a heck of a go trying to get it to do what I want when I want.
Sometimes I have to add lines with a pencil so they are recognized. Then, I erase them later. It is a journey to master this machine!

@@PaperedChef Just imagine a coffee mug with Santa and Rudolph pictured on it. I wanted the shape of the mug to cut out and the inside of the handle to the coffee mug, but I didn't want Santa and Rudolph to cut out. So on two of the mugs I tested I traced just the outside of the mug and the inside of the handle and it worked beautifully. So I went back to do the rest and now I can not seem to get it to work....sigh!!
@@lisathompson5500 I think I got it. A couple of tips. The first is to try different parts of the mat. That works for me. The second tip is tricky. If you finally get the shape that you want, then use Scan to Cut Data. Then, save the shape, cut it out a bunch of times and then use a positioning tool to stamp onto the shape.
