Currently reading Odinn's Child by Tim Severin. What an amazing man. Not only did he write amazing stories he lived one too. Shame he doesnt get that much recognition. This is guy is a true legend. RIP Tim.
I saw this boat in 1976 when I went to the Boat Show in London with my dad. He died 6 weeks later. I then saw it again last year (2021) at Cragganowen in Co Clare. Brought back memories.
R.I.P Tim Severin. It was a remarkable achievement to follow instructions recorded in the 6th century that involve building a leather/wooden boat and replicate a voyage across the Atlantic, proving that it was very likely to be based on actual events.
I'm reading the book again after many years, just on the off-chance I thought to check if the film was still available, wow, I'm so happy to see it, PLUS I love the emotive Irish music!
@barry herpes, I have, really enjoyed it, I vaguely recall that he disappeared on another voyage. Try to find 'A Giant in Hiding' by Lawrence G. Green, who built a copy of Slocum's boat, great book. Look for more Tim Severin books, he's a historical explorer, start with 'The Jason Voyage'.
I went to St. Brendan Church and grade school as a child but I only heard of the saint's chasing the snakes out of Ireland, not this voyage. It's so great to learn this history.
It's called The Brendan Voyage by Liam Ó Flynn it is a fantastic cd of irish pipes aka Úilleann Pipes. The difference being The irish pipes are played with the Elbow hence Úilleann.
Pipe music can be so beautiful, DId the drugs of the 70's win out over pure reason and artistryI lost brain cells listening to it. Great documentary. Awful nusical sound track. Won't be buying that album!
Came here after hearing that wild Hunter X Hunter theory ! ! ! It's my first time knowing about #StBrendansVoyage tonight, 12:40 midnight of February 18, 2023, Saturday! I wonder if there are Irish people who know or watch Hunter X Hunter (or if #intelligentlywrittenAnime are popular in Ireland). 🤔 How cool that would be to meet Irish #HunterXHunter fans in the future! #AsianFanofIrishCulturehere 🇨🇮🏝️ 🇵🇭 In case of curiosity, this is the video that led me to search for St. Brendan's Voyage: ua-cam.com/video/dym2l7EuVvg/v-deo.html

If youre in 7th grade I can see how financials could be a problem, but there are several simple bought that one could build for less than $400. I recommend picking up some boat building books first from the library so you can see whats involve. I would try building a bookshelf first though using proper woodworking principles.

This set me to re-reading the Brendan Voyage, (classic books like that you NEVER throw away!), but my edition predates the film and all illustrations are drawings. I think to myself: There was a film made about this. 45 years on, with the magic (for those times :-) of UA-cam, somebody must have posted something! Low and behold, some kind person has done the world a great favour and up-loaded it, (thank you Marcus Ua Donnghaile !), and I can put real pictures to what I have just been reading. Now I will continue reading before watching Part Two.

Agreed VikingHipHop. The book of the Brendan Voyage is a fine read. Zero sailing knowledge required to enjoy.

@@marcusuadonnghaile1855 Thanks for the link, very interesting.
Has any DNA work been carried out since or is anybody looking into it?
A great adventurer. Watch his voyage in the Argos too
I read Tim Severin' s book when I was 15. I still admire the courage of his crew. Great adventure!
Must’ve been cramped on that little boat with such large brass balls.
Absolutely fantastic. Amazing journey and wonderful documentary About saint Brendan and his Voyage.
Wow! Anoche terminé de leer el atrapante libro " El Viaje del Brendan" y ahora viendo este documental. Una proeza fascinante ⛵
I only found out the other day who this legendary man was. I was reliably informed His boat is still moored across from ours in the marina.
Where is that
Thanks for sharing, what a heroic voyage to attempt at that time.
R.i.p. Tim, great documentary, music is hilarious 😆

St brendan has definitely carried out the voyage to america.
That’s remarkably sure

just saying its not “definite” as it hasn’t been proven... although personally i don’t doubt it either.

The snake story is St Patrick, not Brendan…
That’s St Patrick not St Brendan
