Since you are a historian... got take a look at Game 1 of Edmonton's series against the Islanders in in 1983. It was very similar, though Edmonton was at home. Edmonton completely dominated that game (even more so than the Panther game) and couldn't score. The Isles goaltender, Billy Smith, who had already had a reputation as a great playoff goaltender had not been at his best going into the finals. He probably ended up having his best ever final. It ended up 2-0 with an empty netter and the Islanders swept Edmonton. It wasn't nearly as bad as that even though the scoreboard would say otherwise. Of course, the following year, after Edmonton took a 1-0 game on the Isles home ice, Edmonton dominated games 3-5 at home to take their first Cup.
