I would not pay $400 for a plastic case homeowner grade saw.The extra money for a pro model is worth it. I bought a 270 Farm Boss brand new and it lasted 2 years on the farm. The 261 l replaced it with is 10 years old and “Stihl” going strong.
When you are cutting over the course of a long day or have to cut above your midriff area that extrs 1 1/2 or 2 pounds that the Stihl makes a huge difference! I prefer Husqvarna currently but nothing beats a Pioneer from the 70's
I work on both stihland husqvarna both are good saw companies. and the 445-450 share the same everything except cylinder and piston you can make a 445 into 450 with just a swap of cylinder and piston. I would own either of them both are decent saws for the bucks
Just a suggestion, always let your equipment, ESPECIALLY chainsaws, warm up before putting them under load. That Husky is rippin' it! A full second faster--both ways. Start adding that up (60 pieces of wood=a minute) it turns into hours. I burned up my Husky after 15 years and tried to rebuild it, but it wasn't feasible. The guy at the shop couldn't believe it until he looked at the year on the plate. Both are great saws, but the Husky runs higher RPM and will get you in/out quicker. I run a Timberwolf and it's a decent saw too. It basically comes down to chain...keep it sharp and your tip up!
TasKmen why do you like the 445 over the 450? I have the 450 and I just really like it. my dad is considering buying another saw and I thought of the 445 for him. I think it weighs less, which is good for him. what's your reasons for one over the other? thanks for your help
Sos, I went to my local Lowe’s today, and they have a new Husqvarna display, and hang the saws off some heavy duty brackets, with a kind of gray plastic thing, attached to the saw bar. They are pre assembled, no box, and NO Scabbard! They had them all padlocked/ wired together, and the salesman let me compare the 450 Rancher, to the 455 Rancher, and the 545 Mark II. The 545 Mark II is the real deal, but I was surprised by its weight and less balanced feel, compared to the 450? The thing that I cant quite get over, is the one bar nut deal, on the 450. I know it has two guide pins, but just one bar nut/ stud? I still liked it. A tough call. Stay sharp, and keep yer chains sharp! Safety ain’t funny bidness! Thats my new trademarked closing line! Ha ha Peace.
Nice video, Thanks, I am getting a Husqvarna 465 in about a month. I was hoping to go with a 28" bar. Any info as to how that size saw runs with bar size, optimally?
I have this stihl and my friend bought that husky tonight. We going wreck shop this weekend. I want to see how they do side by side with personal experience. I will admit my stihl is a little on the heavy side.
I used to work for a company that done right of way clearing for the power company. They switched to Husqvarna from stihl for about a year and they just wouldn’t hold up. They ended up replacing our saws about every 3-6 months. They switched back to stihl before I left and had no issues.
Well, if it was those Asplungey dudes, that Company is crap, and they have idiots working for them! They probably didn’t know how to use a good saw right! They took down trees on my property, that, when asked by them, I said to leave, but they cut them down anyways! They posed no threat to power lines, but were a great ‘visual fence’ to my neighbors muddy path that runs through his adjoining property.
The husky saws that are not XP are really just poulan saws. Stihl and husky homeowner saws have plastic crankcases. Pro saws have magnesium crankcases. Stihl uses 2 piston rings , husqvarna uses 1 piston ring.
I just went with the Sthil 271 today because of longevity. Sthil makes a better saw that Husky and how they're broke in make a difference too so I suggest breaking then in correctly but still recommended the Sthil over the husky
3 years ago i bought a stihl 271, it blew the bearing out within the first week, i got my money back and bought a husqvrana 450, it is still going strong
@@robertclifford1099 yea mine was junk too. Sold it and bought the Echo CS590, it's a killer saw. Have 2 of them now and modded, really good saws. Stihl wouldn't honor their warranty and I'll never buy another Stihl. It's Echo or Husky for now on
I used to talk to pulp cutters in N Michigan. They preferred Jonsareds at the time because they could get 1 1/2 cord per tank of gas compared to the 1 cord per tank from the Stihl. They said it was all about RPM and the type chain they used. I would assume the same is true of the Husky. Another factor is the gas oil mix and how much oil is used. I used to run Amsoil at 100:1 with 110 octane avgas and knew guys who competed with their saws that ran 200:1. Bottom line, the faster you can get your saw to run the faster it cuts.
Dollar for dollar, The Timberwolf is the better choice. How could it not be more reliable. It’s a Japanese engine and a mag case saw. These two(450 and 271) are plastic clamshell homeowners saws. At only $400 and 10ccs more it’s a way better option.
@@andybecker2693 my 450 has fallen out of my truck, fallen off the tractor, fell off the wheeler, bounces around the back of my truck, been tossed a few times climbing over stuff. I've damaged the handle and thats it. I'm pretty sure the plastic case is tough enough to withstand just about anything you throw it short of felling a tree on it.
It seemed to me the Husky could not stay in the powerband and and was struggling and had to back off on the bite. I'm just going by the speed of the cut and the sound of the motor used to listen to small engines tuning them by sound.
I wonder if he was pushing on the saw. I have a 450, and it doesn't bog down if I let the weight of the saw do the work, but if I push down, it will big. Oh, and I just happened to be cutting a honey locust that was much wider than his.
I'm not a husky or a stihl guy but it definitely looked like the husky was sharper. there was a lot more fine dust when he was using the stihl. nice fat chips with husky. both great saws though.
i would say go for the closest distributor you have from your house. If you have to change some parts it will be simplest option. Both are good saws. I have a stihl ms 250 and i'm in love with it. just saying
michael guttmann wollte auch erst die 211. dann hab ich mir doch die 271 geholt. ist ein tolles teil. aber wenn man größere bäume hat braucht man fast ne 361 oder größer
I love my Farm Boss but that Husky won this competition. Time will tell if this Farm Boss will stay or go but right now its awesome but if I had seen this prior to buying my Farm Boss I might have went Husky, especially hearing it doubles the warranty..
Craftman Snapon Hard question they are both great but I have to go with the Husqvarna. I mostly use saws in the fall/early winter and the Husqvarna seems to be less grumpy to starting up and running. But this does not mean I don't like the Stihl it just takes s bit more coercion.
The Echo 490 should be included in this comparison 490 is 50.2 semi pro chainsaw, the Echo 501p is pro version and directly competes with stihl 261cm and husqvarna 550. Echo makes a very high quality chainsaw.
Echo is a POS! Just kidding, they are a fine saw, but it is hard to find anyone in my area to work on them. Stihl has the market dominated. That’s the main reason anyone should consider Stihl. They look a little prettier, but hell, its a chainsaw guys, who cares? I guess its why we have the Ford/Chevy thing that has been going on forever. Pay the money and get a Stihl with a good dealer, or get a Husqvarna, or Echo, and take a chance on getting warranty work done? I considered getting a MS261 recently, but the dealer made sure to tell me, its a ‘Pro saw,’ and Stihl only covers it for 90 days, even for a land owner like myself. That is unbelievable! Loss of sale for me.
@@georgedavall9449 many people who run chainsaws are doing the work on them themselves and with Amazon every brand is about equal with parts availability I suggest learning how to rebuild a saw and sharpen your own chains to be an essential ability
@@Nick-hb3sk Well, Thank You Nick for your presumptive reply, six months later! 😯🙄 I do all my own routine maintenance on my saws, and have been doing so for around 20 years or so, including sharpening my own chains. He never touched on the fact that the Rancher has a metal plate with brake built into it with external clutch with 13mm bolts, while the Stihl has plastic cover with 17mm bolts and internal clutch and brake. I think it comes down to personal opinion really, I own the Farm Boss and I've been offered a Rancher twice for mine and I have to admit it's tempting but I do like my Farm Boss.
I've been cutting for the better part of about 10 years and I've always had stihls, husky's or poulans...Let me start off by saying, poulans are garbage in my opinion. Might work for someone else but just not me. I've always loved the idea of stihls because thats just what I have handed down to me from my dad. He bought it atleast 20 years ago and its still running strong for me so I love the reliability. But my grandpa (when he was alive) ran his own firewood buisness and i was one of his cutters and also when he got sick we bought triaxle loads for my grandma and id cut those up for her, also my aunt and uncle would get them to and id take my stihl and use one of my grandpas old huskys. I just gotta hand it to husky though cause the shred through wood like crazy
recently just got a husqvarna and I sharpened a beat up chain on one of them electric sharpeners with the wheel and I was skeptic about the way it was putt an edge on the chain but it filed it kinda the way a full chisel chain looks. Rips like butterrrrrr do gotta hand it to the saw though it is a 71cc engine (Husqvarna 365 x-torq)
the chain may not have needed sharpening on the 271 however I own the 271 and have ran it for well over 4 years cut 50 + cords with it and I will say that from what I saw in the video when you made your first few cuts with the 271 depending on the size of the wood you need to make sure your tension is set to the size of the wood the smaller the wood you cut the tighter you want the chain but not so tight that the chain will burn up your bar but for the medium larger size wood you want a little more slack in the chain the medium sized log your cutting clearly to me looked like with the cuts you made the chain must have been to tight I am interested in another shoot out video where you can look at the difference in the chain tensioning for these two particular saws so maybe we can see that in the future comparisons that you like to do thanks again for the efforts with the comparisons of the saws
he pulled the husquavarna twice and it started up..... I own the 450 rancher and ms310 and the husky started like that after 3 years of sitting up no stabil.
I'd put my money on the husky if you can find the right aftermarket chain for it. The 450 rancher takes a special chain but is certainly lighter in weight than the stihl saw.
That's not a big enough log for the power difference between those two saws to shine. Also, the chain used makes an even bigger difference than the engines. If one has semi-chisel and the other a chisel chain, then it would take a LOT of power to overcome the slower semi-chisel chain.
I've had better luck with huskys than stihl past few years. Every stihl I've ever used in the summer when it's hot are a pita to restart. Huskys just feel like a better put together saw to me. All personal preference in most cases.
Does full chisel cut better than semi? I'm a newbie and just bought a 271 farm boss and it came with a yellow chain but idk if it's semi or full chisel
its no secret, the ms271 with a 20 inch bar is a bit of a dog. iv read it and heard it many times. but slap a 16 or 18 inch bar on her and watch it come to life! either way, theyre both good mid range saws. both will serve their owners well and for many years if taken care of.
between Stihl , Husky and Dolmar...For me $$...it all comes down to the skill and knowledge of the person operating the saw....and what dealer has best service.
@@446hemi service is everything when you buy a new saw its under warranty and if anything goes wrong you need a good service center to honor the warranty for free repairs. Warranty is worthless if not backed by a reputable service center.

I work on both stihland husqvarna both are good saw companies. and the 445-450 share the same everything except cylinder and piston you can make a 445 into 450 with just a swap of cylinder and piston. I would own either of them both are decent saws for the bucks
Stihl hands down my preference
Great comment...thinking of upgrading soon.
Hows a 18 inch run on 271 sthil
I have the ms271 after a few tanks of fuel I returned it and it is the best 50cc saw I have ran. We actually prefer it over our ms261.
Great comparison, thanks for the video
I only got Stihl..........and that´s good. But.......i like that CAMARO..!!!!!!
i liked the stihl seemed to cut nice
GREAST Comment Justin !!! Couldn’t agree more! Husky ate that Stihl for Lunch! Ha Ha
I really like the 445 over the 450 nice.
TasKmen why do you like the 445 over the 450? I have the 450 and I just really like it. my dad is considering buying another saw and I thought of the 445 for him. I think it weighs less, which is good for him. what's your reasons for one over the other? thanks for your help
2010V6RAV4 sorry just seen this .the 445 husq.is lighter thanks
TasKmen it's cool. thanks for the response. I figured it was lighter. perfect for my dad
TasKmen 455 is the turd saw heavy and shit for power and the 450s crack the crancase
Yes the one bar nut thing didn't appeal to me, the reason I just bought a 455 Rancher before I suspect it will go that way.
Nice video, Thanks, I am getting a Husqvarna 465 in about a month. I was hoping to go with a 28" bar. Any info as to how that size saw runs with bar size, optimally?
Excellent review. Thank you so very much.
I have this stihl and my friend bought that husky tonight. We going wreck shop this weekend. I want to see how they do side by side with personal experience. I will admit my stihl is a little on the heavy side.
How did they compare? I have a 271 farm boss and considering trading for a 450 Rancher
That Stihl is $900 and the Husky about $1100 in Australia. You guys in America are really lucky with awesome prices there
wow $1100 in AUS for a 450 Husky! yikes
I used to work for a company that done right of way clearing for the power company. They switched to Husqvarna from stihl for about a year and they just wouldn’t hold up. They ended up replacing our saws about every 3-6 months. They switched back to stihl before I left and had no issues.
bullshit
bullshit
The Stihl Crankshafts are fully surrounded by magnesium, Husqvarnas only half
@@luuuk7534 NOT the husky pro saws....fully magnesium
@@446hemi Yes. But not the farmer saws.
No they’re not just “Poulan saws”. Find one Poulan that is the same as the 450 then dummy.
@@luuuk7534 yet it makes little to no difference lol.
026 best 50 cc saw I've ever ran
It's Echo or Husky for now on
@@dentondunn4346 I have 4 Husqvarna's and have never had to use the warranty on any of them, that says something.
@@robertclifford1099 I agree and same for my Echoes
I used to talk to pulp cutters in N Michigan. They preferred Jonsareds at the time because they could get 1 1/2 cord per tank of gas compared to the 1 cord per tank from the Stihl. They said it was all about RPM and the type chain they used. I would assume the same is true of the Husky. Another factor is the gas oil mix and how much oil is used. I used to run Amsoil at 100:1 with 110 octane avgas and knew guys who competed with their saws that ran 200:1. Bottom line, the faster you can get your saw to run the faster it cuts.
Yup, they both cut wood. Also, I love my Stihl 271 with a 20" bar and a carbide tipped chain. I even use it for a chainsaw mill. Works fantastically.
Its a piece of junk
Where's the timber wolf at?
Zachary Coslic in the repair shop😬
@@cledussnow9507 sounds like you’re either very clumsy or drunk too much lol.
Great video
Who is beter husqarna 450 or stihl 271 ?
Am I right to think that the torque of the Stihl would make it better for hardwood?
It seemed to me the Husky could not stay in the powerband and and was struggling and had to back off on the bite. I'm just going by the speed of the cut and the sound of the motor used to listen to small engines tuning them by sound.
I wonder if he was pushing on the saw. I have a 450, and it doesn't bog down if I let the weight of the saw do the work, but if I push down, it will big. Oh, and I just happened to be cutting a honey locust that was much wider than his.
Stihl looks better and I like the tool-less fuel and oil caps. husky not a bad saw by any stretch tho.
I'm not a husky or a stihl guy but it definitely looked like the husky was sharper. there was a lot more fine dust when he was using the stihl. nice fat chips with husky. both great saws though.
which one is better? i'm looking for one of these chainsaw's but i'm not sure. sorry for my bad english.
i would say go for the closest distributor you have from your house. If you have to change some parts it will be simplest option. Both are good saws. I have a stihl ms 250 and i'm in love with it. just saying
Xt-Klaus i've got the 271 and im really happy
sorry for my bad english
michael guttmann German?
Xt-Klaus ja, hab die 271 und die 211
michael guttmann wollte auch erst die 211. dann hab ich mir doch die 271 geholt. ist ein tolles teil. aber wenn man größere bäume hat braucht man fast ne 361 oder größer
Going for the Husq , has not failed me . Stihl , noisey , heavy but low maintenance, umm , am unsure, might go with a new Jonsered this time around.
...which is owned by Husqvarna
I have got a Husqvarna 450 but there is not that black button on top of mine... Why ??
Does the 3/8 chain on the husky give it a slight advantage over the Stihls .325 chain is .y questions
Stihl rates their hp as BRAKE Horsepower meaning it rates a little higher than it would if it was rated like most other manufacturers do.
I love my Farm Boss but that Husky won this competition. Time will tell if this Farm Boss will stay or go but right now its awesome but if I had seen this prior to buying my Farm Boss I might have went Husky, especially hearing it doubles the warranty..
the stihl may have a new chain but it is not sharpened correctly. It is making sawdust. The rakers are a bit too high.
husky period
Which one u like the most? I have the ms271 and love it
Craftman Snapon
Hard question they are both great but I have to go with the Husqvarna.
I mostly use saws in the fall/early winter and the Husqvarna seems to be less grumpy to starting up and running.
But this does not mean I don't like the Stihl it just takes s bit more coercion.
My biggest concern is that husqvarna also makes the trash poulan chainsaws. How much design and parts are the same?
husky anyday !!
That single bolt on the side cover to hold the bar and the chain adjustment looks like it could be a problem.
Its not, stihl is going to one nut on homeowner saws
I do all my own routine maintenance on my saws, and have been doing so for around 20 years or so, including sharpening my own chains. I know how to run saws, and just recently, pulled the muffler off my Husky 345, and I could still see the honing marks on the side of the piston! Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I appreciate your concern, and advice though, and have a wonderful day. Please stay safe!
Congrats!!! 297,000 views
Stihl is the best 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 2:07 2:07 2:08
You forgot to mention about that both saws have a strato charge engine.
you have to just love how EVERYTIME a husky eats up a stihl....the stihl guys say....the chain on the stihl was dull
i'm a stihl guy and i say buy what the fuck you want. both are good saws
446hemi I've had experience with both in prefer stihl but both are good
I've been cutting for the better part of about 10 years and I've always had stihls, husky's or poulans...Let me start off by saying, poulans are garbage in my opinion. I just gotta hand it to husky though cause the shred through wood like crazy
this happens because 1º the stihl have the saw dull and 2º rarely stihl takes the 2º place :D :D
recently just got a husqvarna and I sharpened a beat up chain on one of them electric sharpeners with the wheel and I was skeptic about the way it was putt an edge on the chain but it filed it kinda the way a full chisel chain looks. Rips like butterrrrrr do gotta hand it to the saw though it is a 71cc engine (Husqvarna 365 x-torq)
the chain may not have needed sharpening on the 271 however I own the 271 and have ran it for well over 4 years cut 50 + cords with it and I will say that from what I saw in the video when you made your first few cuts with the 271 depending on the size of the wood you need to make sure your tension is set to the size of the wood the smaller the wood you cut the tighter you want the chain but not so tight that the chain will burn up your bar but for the medium larger size wood you want a little more slack in the chain the medium sized log your cutting clearly to me looked like with the cuts you made the chain must have been to tight I am interested in another shoot out video where you can look at the difference in the chain tensioning for these two particular saws so maybe we can see that in the future comparisons that you like to do thanks again for the efforts with the comparisons of the saws
appreciate the info!
good to know
Aaron Zugel mm
What country is the current Husqvarna 450 made in ?
he pulled the husquavarna twice and it started up..... I own the 450 rancher and ms310 and the husky started like that after 3 years of sitting up no stabil.
@ Aaron Davis Which is better than those two chainsaws?
I'd put my money on the husky if you can find the right aftermarket chain for it. The 450 rancher takes a special chain but is certainly lighter in weight than the stihl saw.
45 what??? E or rancher ?????
looks like you were pushing the husky quite a bit harder than the stihl but i give it to husky great vid though
The new stihl 201 is awesome.
That's not a big enough log for the power difference between those two saws to shine. Also, the chain used makes an even bigger difference than the engines. If one has semi-chisel and the other a chisel chain, then it would take a LOT of power to overcome the slower semi-chisel chain.
You sir are correct .. chains make a HUGE difference. Unaddrsssed in video
I have a ms271 and offered a 450 Rancher for it. Shouod I trade him.you think
That Husky can move some wood.
I have a poulan p3816 16 inch chainsaw. I used it today.
Still cuts slower but garentee it last longer , easier for parts and service. Holds better price if sold used
the older stihls held up better, not the newer ones
Huskys have higher chainspeed lower torq stihl has the torq with a lower chainspeed thats why i mill softwood with a husky and hardwood with my stihl
The time you save by easy access to the air filter you loose with the freaking primer bubble.
I have run both the husqvarna starts easier, runs harder, sounds better, and even most of the time cost about the same if not less.
Advantage to the Husky is a smaller body for a less unobstructed view of what you're cutting. Both great saws though.
its no secret, the ms271 with a 20 inch bar is a bit of a dog. iv read it and heard it many times. but slap a 16 or 18 inch bar on her and watch it come to life! either way, theyre both good mid range saws. both will serve their owners well and for many years if taken care of.
HUSQVARNA the best 👍
between Stihl , Husky and Dolmar...For me $$...it all comes down to the skill and knowledge of the person operating the saw....and what dealer has best service.
There you go that is the bottom line.
work on the saw yourself...what does service have to do with it?
@@446hemi service is everything when you buy a new saw its under warranty and if anything goes wrong you need a good service center to honor the warranty for free repairs. Warranty is worthless if not backed by a reputable service center.
Husqvarna for life they are the best made saw in the world I own a ton of them love them all
How do I look up my instruction manual for the 450 rancher

let this old man clear this -up.... both very good saws! ...But,,, I'm owned the 029 farm boss for 27 years. when it broke(weared out) I'm rebuilt it and upgraded head! I was a stihl man! and I still am. ....I borrowed the 455 husky 3 days of pain ...10hr a day ...I tried get all I could out it before I had too return it ! it showe me the value of a Big heavy saw ! #1- advantage= husky got decompression button on cranking= luv it /husky way to go on a 50 cc big saw or bigger= I NEVER use a big saw without it again !!! #2- hands down.. husky got stihl beat on the primer bulb! `#3 - husky carbs ahead of the game ! more tunable/ stays tuned.. and revs -up smoother /faster.. the 2 pull/ 1 pull at time starts.. blow me away... specialy when I got tired. all said.. I don't know how long it last.. but atm ..the 455 husky rancher is a sweet machine!!!!! my stihl was dependable saw.. but hard cranking and no decompression button. I cuss it a lot =exspecilally when it needed a lot pulls when got its fill up! any1 owned a husky for long time ?
Why does everyone add an extra syllable when they pronounce Husqvarna?
lets see the same 2 saws 3 years from now.
Everyone shows new saws, id like to see after they put some hours on them
We have almost 8 years on a husky 455 rancher. 10 or so bars, runs stronger every time! Hell I’ll make a video of it if people actually want to see an old girl run. It will have a new bar and chain tho
fastest I got with a stop watch for the stihl was 6.35....fastest with the husky was 4.84
With that 4 year warranty you'll need it for that Husqvarna
I'm seeing a trend across multiple husky vs. stihl videos: in every video i've watched, the husky always has the longer bar/chain which gives it a clear advantage over the stihl
How does a longer bar and chain give it a clear advantage with cutting speed?
I don’t think you know what you’re talking about lol.
Husqvarna all day
tune the stihl on the high end
I think the Husqvarna cut a bit faster. I'm a Stihl guy but I'm looking for a bigger saw and I think I might just try out the Husqvarna out.
think im gonna get the husqvarna
