I love my MS261 because it`s super light and you can work forever with it, but it lacks a little bit of power, especially when the chain isn`t 100% sharp anymore. The 550 Mark 2 could be a real successor.
I prefer the Husky, saw cutting speed is mainly up to the operator due to the engineers getting as much out of the engines. What I have found (in my findings) is that the Husky is smoother and way less engine vibration. I like the trigger feel better and the whole saw feels more taught. Stihl saws (for me) feel a bit more floppy. The chain brake does no feel as sturdy an in the Husky. I do think the Husky is a bit heavier. Either saw you can’t go wrong.
Both saws are incredible for being only 50cc stock saws. Up to this size wood they are fantastic. Sure 70cc saws running aggressive 3/8 chain will be faster, but they also weigh about 4-5lb more set up ready to cut. And you carry the saw a lot more per set amount of time cutting versus larger wood where the saw rides the wood Longer in big wood.
I would rather have the extra power, and when you're bucking you had to make quite a few butt cuts. You cut the rot out so that it's at 50 percent or a little less.A smaller saw then a 2072 would burn out and you would have to replace it. Before the 2072 I ran the 2100s a 20 pound saw.Gave you a good arm workout
@@edpottinger849 I myself has an echo 590 which is an excellent firewood saw, and a 394xp for the truly big wood but find myself rarely using it. The big saws are tremendous to run in big wood but I've worked hard over the years to get better at hand filing and find it to be far more important, when matched to the saw being used, than the actual size of the saw. To a degree of course. No matter how sharp and smooth you get a 24" 3/8, it'll never be suited to a 50cc saw. But my echo 590 with a really well sharpened chain is damn close to as fast as my 394 in wood under about 16-18" or so. And probably faster in wood under about 8". I still run my 50cc saws in hardwood tops and limbing instead of my bigger saws.
@@bryantitus6634 I had 394 that I used as well.I actually had to sell it I needed the cash.I really liked the decompression switch,it made you're knuckles not so beat up in the winter. That was my main draw for a couple winters and the 2072 was my backup.Cheers Bryan.Good to know an old logger
finally a video hat uses the same bar and chain on both since the husky uses a .50 gauge speed cut narrow kerf and the stihl uses a .63 regular kerf which makes it unfair for the stihl. Thanks very much for the equal comparison.
I’m not sure the oiler hole on the bar matches up for the Husqvarna using that Sthil bar. At least they didn’t used to. I used to have a saw shop and worked on literally thousands of saws. Maybe these newer ones are interchangeable
Nice to see I am looking at buying a 550xp soon I am still using a 346xp which is a great little chainsaw. I also run a 372xp for larger trees. Thank you for the video.
The older Huskies were way better.A have a 2072 that has never been rebuild and I bought in 1993.Ive bucked tens of millions of feet of timber with it,and it still runs.
I have a 550xp and an echo 501sx and for some reason I always seem to pick up the echo to use and I honestly cant explain why . I know the husqvarna has way more power but the echo is lighter and better on fuel .
Great video. Both very close performance wise. Choose the brand you like and that has dealer support. 550 has better filler caps hands down. 550 has 5yr warranty vs 2 yr on 261 if you buy premix fuel. I would guess 261 for longevity, but is unknown. No wrong choice.
Seeing this video make me kind feel good. Stihl compares theirs MSA300 with theirs 261 and now here is the 261 against Husky 550. I have the MSA 300 so I may not in a so bad spot.
I have a 261, my brother has a 545, and my Dad has a 550xp. I’m surprised the times in the video were so close. My experience is the 261 and the 545 are similar, but the 550 is a bit stronger.
545 550xp is basically tha same but different what sets the 550 apart is the crankshaft has stuffer crank and 545 doesn't, 550 has rev boost and 545 doesn't.
Why runs the oil out of the Husqvarna after the third cut? Im no professional- just looking for the right saw for my dad ... im not sure: Husqvarna or Stihl
Szívesen néznék még videókat, Ugyanezzel a lánccal és vezetővel, több típuson is. Pl. Husqvarna 560xp, 562xp, 572xp, és 592xp típuson is! És, Stihl Ms362, Makita 6401, Dolmar PS-7300 is. Super lenne!
I prefer stihl but only slightly. Stihls seem to have better air filtration and more metal on them. I also hate purge bulbs (they always end up cracking and voila you now are sucking air) so thats another point going towards stihl. On the other end husqvarnas vibration isolation is unmatched. Period. The 572 is the smoothest engine driven tool i have ever picked up. I feel that the Husqvarna balances better as well, stihl might be too light? Unless you plan on buying a light weight bar which i highly recommend doing… the husky will balance far better than the stihl. Love both just as long as the continue to smoke and make noise to hell with that electric crap!
The 261 will outlast the 550 2-3 fold. I've seen a handful of the 550's fail and at least a dozen of the 562's give up the ghost in just a few months of use. Stihl pro saws are a far better investment.
@@brianturner1951 Not even half of the time. Not even on opposite day. Stihl's wear out over time. Huskies run like a MF then just die like a bird shot out of the sky. Then I'm just fucked on a mountain side and have to walk 5 miles (most of the time I just toss the huskies in the bushes or off the cliff) to get a different saw. Stihl's are a million times better.
Why no makita this time? Also the makita 5030 has restricted cat in the muffler which doesn't flow... it's competing against more modern strato saws which don't have cats. Removed the cat and baffle on makita and retest😉
10 years ago I would have agreed with you. Today, Stihl saws have gotten a bit too finicky on the fuel quality and warm up time can take forever in cooler temps. Not knocking Stihl, but I own 2 Husky trimmers,3 chainsaws, and a pole saw and they are simply reliable.
