This still works as of June 2021. Just a quick update that you'll need the drive to be formated with APFS if you're using a M.2 SSD. I just upgraded my MacBook Pro 2017 SSD to 1TB and running macOS Big Sur.

Does it erase everything on your ssd? Trying to reinstall macOS on my external and need the stuff still on there. My internal doesn’t have enough space to reinstall

@@jackbotti I had to reformat the ssd. Make sure you back up all important documents. The installation might ask to reformat you drive.

The GUID option didn't come up for me so I created a disk partition using your instruction but under journaled (solely) not the one thats encrypted or case sensitive. Is this ok ? Don't get the difference. Also, is this partition going to be the give me full access to the available storage? How can I tell?

i could get the veiw tab on my mac> the most ridiculous problem or option of guid so i just named is mac os and somehow it showed up as a drive and is downloading. should work . fingers crossed

It may be that you have a faulty hard drive or power. Also, depending on what Mac you have, some older models needed a converter. You may want to charge that out and if you're still struggling, pop it into a local repair shop.

Tip to everyone here, DO NOT BUY A GAMING PC FROM TESE PEOPLE if you are considering it. They made my parents pay £1800 for overpriced components and have manipulated them into believing it was worth it. They built one for my parents originally but they decided to upgrade and they only upgraded the CPU to a ryzen 7 3800xt for no apparent reason. I believe this company knows nothing about PCs as you do not need an amazing CPU and a ryzen 7 3700x would have been fine. They use a single 8gb stick of ram in single channel which is bad for ryzen at 2400mhz in a £1800 PC which proves this place is a scam as you need at least 3200mhz for ryzen. They also used a 1660ti which is not representative of a £1800 pc and a b550 a pro which are very cheap options for the price and also a cheap case and they did not include an exhaust fan which means my temperatures are very high and once again showing they know little about PCs. Also you would expect an AIO to be used but a cheap air cooler was used. These people are outwright scammers and profit of people who know nothing about PCs DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.
