11:55 "I2C, From what I understand it's meant to be used on a system, it's not necessarily supposed to be used with wires." Pins 15 and 16 of HDMI are an I2C bus used to deliver the EDID data, as are pins 6 and 7 of DVI, and DisplayPort's DisplayID standard uses it as well (although in a slightly modified form).
If he'd kept the headphones off and listened in, he could have listened to Ben using an oscilloscope to decrypt a controller protocol that was fully mapped out ten years ago, enumerate the pieces of hardware inside a cheap ARM SoC-based system, or replace a piece of wire with a longer piece of wire.
Peter Tardent same here. Plus I have Amazon prime and that's taking a toll on my wallet lol. I can afford it it's just that I can't stop buying random stuff that I "need".
I've heard the short cords were to ensure the unit is next to the player so you can reset/power on/off easily (I believe you need to reset in order to change games/return to the menu). So a nice mod would be to run a reset or power button out to the controller!
I still love that when someone off loaded the games to an sd card they found that the Nes Classic used the same ROMs online. Even had the header file that the guy who downloaded them from original cartridges added. Why completely remake games when you can emulate and have someone else rip the files for you.
@14:30 "The XBOX ONE Dongle ONLY works in windows 10" => Not true, you can find the Windows 7+ compatible drivers on the actual Microsoft website for the dongle. It's marketed as "only for Windows 10" and it will work out of the box with it, but they actually have the proper drivers for older Windows too.
The XBOX One controller dongle works with Windows 7 aswell. It's just the audio output on the controller that isn't working with windows versions less than 10.
Thank you for forcing Ben to bandage those hamburger meat thumbs. The close-ups are much easier to watch now. This was a cool episode. Neat to see the button behavior on the scope.
I so would have made a micro USB out on the controllers, so you could leave the cables as they were, and detach them from the controller, and maybe use them for something else as well, but mostly because it may may handy to have them seperate for storing them or whatever. Does that work ? Or is there a reason why that is a very bad idea ?
Ben Heck, would it be possible to adapt a mSD card slot or even a JTAG port to add or remove ROMs from this system? Wouldn't that be great if you were not limited to the selection of games Nintendo picked for you? Cheers!
I like that he's doing his best to understand everything you say. He seems to be having some difficulties which is understandable because he's new to this but from what I've seen you're good at explaining
Can you not use transceiver chip that can interface into fibre optic cable which connects into a transceiver chip which connects to the motherboard of the Nintendo Classic Mini.
can you make a top loading 8 track player with blue tooth? I'd love to see 8 tracks make a small come back. a top loader that displays the tapes art on table while listening via blue tooth would be sweet!
That would require finding some plugs to use, they aren't sold since they're proprietary. So they would have to be sacrificed from something else. Plus there are concerns about noise for an IC2 bus.
they release the xbone drivers for windows 7 and 8.1 due to the fact that the xbone s controller now works with just Bluetooth and the demand for the controller to be able to be used with windows 7 and 8.1
the sega genesis/megadrive II remake for the 25th anniversary runs at 24 fps instead of 30 so everythings laggy as hell and makes some games just unplayable. wonder if its the same for the snes version.
why didnt you just change out the controller ports for USB types so you can plug any controller in. You can just get yourself a USB NES controller and if you need more length you get the USB extenders.
They could have added a small switch as the select button from the pro controller. That button acts as a reset button on the classic. This way you wouldn't need to be near the console to switch games.
I have the actual Nintendo NES, not the NES classic. I found that this was interesting primarily because my friend does have a NES classic that he bought years ago. They do have ridiculously short cords that could damage the entire system if one got into really aggressive game play.
interesting idea, the wiiu guitar hero live guitar isnt accurate for bar chords. on a real guitar, if you're holding a fret on the neck, say, on 5th fret from the head, it doesnt matter if you press on frets behind it (1-4 in this case). in guitar hero live, you get penalized for holding bar chord behind another bar chord, making quick progressions a bit more difficult. i was wondering if it was possible to make a simple hack (maybe even as simple as just a couple bypass wires), that would allow fore more accurate action to playing a real guitar, meaning to allow letting you hold a higher cord, and play with the rest of the frets behind it. and because its a rhythm game, timing is important. so it'd be cool to ensure that it doesnt impact the input timing.
I figured out how to fix the original nes from doing the flashing screen and having to blow on games. if you take apart the nes, you'll see on the game tray that there is a little bb that releases a button when you push down the tray. well the track gets worn out and the bb only releases the button half way causing all the loading problems with the nes. if you remove the bb, you don't even have to push down the try to load the game. the whole blowing on the game was a myth and never needed to be done.

I like how Felix put headphones on after minute 4 when the banter got to the point of redundant and ridiculous.
Ahmet Uzun and he is chugging some sort of drink. I don't think any soda I know of that's dark in color and comes in a green bottle lol.
I immediately noticed that too... made me laugh so hard.

The unsung hero haha
I bought some Wii controller extensions. Works fine.
Peter Tardent it's easy to go out and buy a cable extender but it's more fun and special to make your own
With my skill and abilities I'm sure to burn the house down! It was the safer option lol
Peter Tardent same here. Plus I have Amazon prime and that's taking a toll on my wallet lol. I can afford it it's just that I can't stop buying random stuff that I "need".
pfff the neZ mini extension cord are like 6bucks the pack of 2...
Tailslol exactly the same cable with a different name slapped on it. That's about all I paid for mine too.

love the eevblog reference
Lol I scrolled down to see if anyone else got it.
Me too
I wonder if it was sarcastic or a genuine shout out?
19:20 turn auto caption on and look at the silliness that it says when Ben does his music impreasions
Tennis a nerd and indigenous been insensitive and dented and did it.
(hilarious!)
Mac Donalds it is silly...I just realized I misspelled it when u pointed it out
Felix couldn't take it anymore!!! put'n on the headset .. classic
Ohhhhh Bens Tommy impression is some of the best stuff to see xD
Ha! I love the Dave Jones reference. We're in like flynn (SIC??)
Bobby dazzler
it wins the eevblog retarded product of the week award! or idea of the week...Nintendo discontinued it
They updated the xbone dongle for windows 8 and 7!! I ran out and bought one as soon as they read the article.

OMG portable NES Classic .. Yes please!!!!!

9:37 "4 bits is a nipple"
Space Kitty it's nibble, but he has a b/p b
I thought I was the only one who heard that!
Thought I may have been a little...

Guys!
I liked the live stream yesterday but 2 things: 1. announce it 1 or 2 days before it starts 2. enable chat (4fun)
thx
Stream was announced a week before. Was even a video notice that showed up in the sub stream to set a reminder.
okey. Didnt catch that :(

OMGs!!! The tease with the very last line of the video! Awesome.
I usually refer to it as the N...E...S... "Eny Es"
Liofa yes, but then it should be written N.E.S. it's the only spelling rule in English which is clear.
I bought a classic controller extender to use for a project and they used red for ground. I lost my damn mind.
YOU ARE TEARING MY NES APART LISA!
3:22 - David thinking "What did I get myself into?"
I love your random references of anything from Marie-Antoinette to Bob Ross! Subbed!
It's canon that Dr. Mario is a self credited Doctor and not officially recognized by any major party as a legitimate doctor.
Can you not use transceiver chip that can interface into fibre optic cable which connects into a transceiver chip which connects to the motherboard of the Nintendo Classic Mini.
Is it possible an RGB/Composite signal direct from the pcb?
can you make a top loading 8 track player with blue tooth? I'd love to see 8 tracks make a small come back. a top loader that displays the tapes art on table while listening via blue tooth would be sweet!
Why did you splice the wires outside the plug and not hide then inside it?
Or buy the NES classic extension cable.
What were you doing that made you hurt both your thumbs?
still haven't seen a single one in stores yet
Should have added the option to reset directly on the controller like the Wii one can with the home button.
Could you somehow bypass the rgb to HDMI and get a pure RGB signal?
19:23 Anyone know where I can download an emulator for the BenHeck audio synthesizer?
Could you have wired up an extension cable instead (male and female header)? Or would that have added to much noise to the controller signal?
That would require finding some plugs to use, they aren't sold since they're proprietary. So they would have to be sacrificed from something else. Plus there are concerns about noise for an IC2 bus.

im just waiting to see the nes classic edition portable now :D
We dont come here for the "mobile game-play". we want this guy taking stuff apart, and then putting it back together in weird ways
A Portable NES Mini would be very great to see, if you ever get your hands on your own.
This episode got a lot better when I muted it.
WOAH WOAH WOAH THERE!!!! 2:18...HE DID IT, HE FINALLY SMILED!!
5:11 Dave Jones thanks you!
Why wouldn't he open the Wii/NES connector instead of splicing the connector cable and the USB cable together?
dave jones at spotted @ 5:12
so now can you figure out how to clone the system since Nintendo stopped making them?
buy a 3d printed case that looks the same, put a raspberry pi in it. I made one and its great.
"Right, ok. I understand completely"
We're in like flynn. Good job Dave, even these guys watch you.
NES Classic laptop?
How long is the new cord?????
that guy was a cool guest! you should find an excuse to have him on again!
I feel like Ben will do a nes mini portable
is there any way to lix the lag in the controller?
Felix was laughing in the background. I love Felix.
love the show, from Brazil
@4:21 the guy in the back reaches for the headphones cause he’s tired of listening to the jokes, heh heh heh
Mine one didn't come with a poster!
i have a wireless dongle for xbox 1 and it works on windows 7....
Can you please make a NES Mini Slim?;)
2017: Pronouncing 'NES' as 'nezz,' when everyone else has been spelling it out like since forever...
A fun video to watch !
the xbox wireless dongle is also working with win 7 and 8,1!!!
couldnt he open the plug and directly solder it to the plug itself instead of soldering the 2 small ends together ?
Runs the risk of breaking the plug, I've tried before and had disastrous results.
Portable NES Classic, great idea ben!
So is he going to make it into an all in one portable?
I wonder how it will compare to a Raspberry Pi with Retro Pi.
the sega genesis/megadrive II remake for the 25th anniversary runs at 24 fps instead of 30 so everythings laggy as hell and makes some games just unplayable. wonder if its the same for the snes version.
mmm ... i wonder of Ben could add external sdcard for adding extra games ROM (^^)
Actually, the NES Classic has 512mb of flash memory. Which is enough to store pretty much every NES game ever made.
yeah there is a way to flash it already.
"Ohhhh, that Nintendo reset button feeeels so good" and a meme is born.
Hello, please could you do something with R.O.B, that old classic robot made for NES... Maybe Ben could give R.O.B a better use than it have now. =D
do u think it is running a emulator ?
Ben's surprise face reminds me of LazyGameReviews :)
Ben rocking that 1988 Dad Sweater pretty hard.
the tommy wisseau impression was spot on
The Tommy Wiseau impressions really make the video lol
2:58 that Felix eyebrow raise.
I2C on a 2m cable? You're braver than I thought!
your tommy wisseau laugh is next level
oh Ben. you are tearing me apart!
"YOU'RE TEARING ME APART BEN!!!" -Controller
"We soldered it really good" - Ben Heck, 2017
The Ben Heck Show Any big plans for the upcoming Aliens day?
Let them eat cake!

Not "ness" or "nez", it's N-E-S!
the more I watch, the more I'm liking Karen, I was initially upset about losing Alison, but here we are
2:17 Felix laughing behind :)
Saw the guya made iPhone. Can you make one without going to store?

I sub-ed when Ben knew the Mega Man 2 song by heart.
