Not a negative, but driving and maintaining a coach takes a lot of knowledge. I would dedicate some time to understand the potential issues that you might encounter on the road and how to recover. Best of luck on your travels and welcome from Virginia.
Absolutely, thanks! Don keeps learning more and more as we go through this journey. Still lots to learn but soaking in what we can from our knowledgeable friends and mechanics along the way
Building the ''thing'' was one experience, now driving it will be something else. More learning ahead. One day, you will know that bus like it was a companion in your life. Safe and fun (without problems) travel to you !
I started watching you both in the middle of the night after my treatments.. my insides ripped apart from chemo and radiation. Major surgery prior to that. Now stage 4 metastatic to my lungs. I am hanging in there. Not to worry I'm prepared for anything. Living vicariously through you now. Don't let stress get to you. ENJOY your life together.
I am sorry you have had to go through that, my blessed Mom had radical Mastectomy in 1982, it was heartbreaking to hear her cries when I changed her dressings for her, but, she lived 18 more years, only YOU can know your suffering, but, I admire your fighting spirit !!
Guys, we're calling for the UK, to help you (we've had an Americn Motorhome for 7yrs), you're on a journey. Reset the Trip Meter and log the experience. My sincere advice is to contact the Bus Grease Monkey. Scott & his son are fantastic and will help you learn your Bus, that's the key. ENJOY but take the time to learn the basic for that type of Bus it's really important. Big Hug Peter & Rayne
If the rig ever overheats, try turning on the heater control for the engine, turn the fan to full blast and let it run. The temperature should start to go down. Of course, open windows if it gets too hot inside.
As an owner of a classic class A diesel motorhome I really enjoyed watching you two build you home on wheels, but now I feel your channel will be much more interesting! Safe travels!
Before you get on your big journey on the road, make sure all connections cleaned and de-rusted, all oils filled. All filters changed, temperature gauges and any other gauges are checked and fully working. All tyres fully treaded and filled with air. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a car or bus, all engines and working parts should all be checked and fully tested before any long journey, especially when it’s your home. If your engine has been fully overhauled and checked by a qualified mechanic you will be fine. Always ensure you have spare parts for everything that is at risk of breaking ie hoses, puncture repair, plugs, batteries, connectors, fuses, air pump etc you’ll be good. Do you have services like we have in the U.K. ie RAC, AA? They are road recovery organisations with 24/7 mechanics available everywhere nationwide top to bottom of country. If you have , it might be worth joining one, so that if there’s any mechanical issue, you have someone to call on to help out. Also, maybe start watching you tube videos on bus mechanical work, if they have any of course, to help you both out. Good luck guys. Are you putting a logo on the side of your bus or leaving it plain? I think @rehabit8 would look cool.
Hi Julie, thanks for the advise. As we said, we have discussed our coolant problem with our mechanic and MCI and everyone thought the sensor was broken. We were heading straight to the mechanic before putting any serious miles on and so he could check everything out for us. Our mechanic Joe has been an amazing resource for us, we are able to call him up with questions and now that we aren't building, Don can spend more time learning about the mechanics. There are also some great facebook groups for MCI bus people, many of who know more than us. We have found them helpful in the past.
In addition to being great examples of living in the moment, I'm extremely impressed with your writing and videography skills. You may be novice bus operators, but you're absolute pros at storytelling.
You Both have been a inspiration to me, I have enjoyed watching your Bus build out the past few years. Watching what you both have done, inspired me to purchase and pick up a 2002 Van Hool Coach Bus to start my own conversion process!
You guys got this!!🙏🤞❤ No negativity here. I know it all won't be easy, but that is also was makes it an adventure. 😁 Keep on trudging through and cannot wait to see all the adventures to come. God bless
I cried 3 times watching this😭 I'm so happy for you guys!!💚 This was my dream for a long time and you finally getting on the road made me imidiatly tear up. You look so happy🙌🏻
I just love watching y’all. I miss y’all when you are gone from UA-cam for a while. May the rest of your travels be safe and the Lord watches over y’all. God Bless.
This is very good to find the various issues close to home. Look for those leaks in the cooling, fuel, oil systems. Might want all new filters as well. Ask the mechanic about overheating. Last i knew its best to leave it running to let it cool down. But never done it.
I've never built a traveling home but I've built hundreds of custom cars and original restorations. I can tell you no matter how much experience one has there are ALWAYS issues during the shakedown stage of the project. I'm impressed you had as few problems as you did. Well done!!
I hope you understand what it costs to keep a bus up and running. You will spend thousands of dollars a year just to keep it running and serviced properly. Good luck!
Hey guys, great video.my advice on coolant systems is that if you haven't already check all the active hoses.if when squeezed they feel soft or squishy replace them.it will save sitting on the side of the road from a blown hose
Just a bit of info, if you remove the on / off valve on the end of your water hose it will fill much faster. It usually has a hole 1/2 the size of your hose. The water filter will slow it down some too, you definitely need to filter the water. The filter you are using is normally for city hook up, we filter our water coming from the tank into the coach. Happy Trails…..
Thanks for the tips Kenny about the on off valve. yeah we have 3 filters. Our 2nd filter is from tank to bus house, then a 3rd filter is ACUVA for drinking water.
You can expect to be a little nervous because this is all new to you and when you meet other travelers you will learn a lot from them about traveling. I wish you the very best!!
No negativity at all. S*** happens. You live and you learn, you guys took it better then I probably would😂 but I'm sure you both are headed for great adventures in your beautiful bus.
Best to have such problems close to home rather than miles away from anywhere. Ours will be ready to move in by mid September, fingers crossed. Then we get it certified as a motorhome, then registration all ahead of a road trip to Melbourne, Victoria which is just over 1000 miles away. Watch that tag axle if driving over uneven ground.
Congratulations to you both for three years of hard work on your bus/ new home. It's just bad luck with the few mishaps before starting your big adventure I guess that is part of the adventure. I whish you a long, happy adventure filled, a safe ,and healthy trip where ever the road takes you. I love these channels where people like yourselves travel around this beautiful world of ours and sharing the experience with us. I love seeing parts of the world I won't ever see for myself. Thanks for sharing with us.
Oops: Sure was a shakey start: Just hope they are just baby steps (Teething problems). Fingers crossed that it will be the end of the problems. And focus on your trips. The bus is looking like homeland. Thank you for sharing your story. Regards
Double check that all that coolant that you just added to the engine is compatible with whatever fluid was already in there. Or better yet have a complete flush done asap and have fresh fluid put in. Incompatible mixtures of coolants can cause corrosion problems. Love the vids. Envious of the adventure ahead.
Hope your plans are to get a tow bar sometime so you can pull your car behind your bus. After you get all the kinks worked out that would make life much easier.
Yes absolutely! We figured we'd do things in stages, first get used to driving the bus again and then towing. We just released our video about towing for the first time!
Absolutely loved this episode. I can tell you with out a word of a lie but this is me and the family leaving then not leaving then leaving then Not leaving then completely broken down. Thanks for the laugh and the realistic and sometimes these things happen moments. Subbed and loved. Stay safe and don’t forget to smile.
Youse guys are finally on the road. Don’t know how you did it I would have pulled my hair out… oops.😎 Anyway as a now retired over the road salesman with close to 3,000,000 miles under my belt your engine needs to be top notch. Check all fluids, hoses, filters, etc frequently and I mean frequently until you get a feel for what works. Good thing you were close to home during the first drive. Looking forward to your many vids.
Hey kids...Im happy to hear you are on the road. There will ALWAYS be something to deal with in a coach. Just continue to think about it as an adventure. Dont let people and their comments bring you down. Surround yourself with positive happy people who bring you joy. I am super excited for you. If you are ever in the PNW you have a place to stay! CONGRATULATIONS!
You two are the best! You learn quickly and adjust as needed. Most of all you love each other and enjoy the simple, curious life. I’m sorry you have had problems but you’ve handled them. After a week or two you’ll be riding high and enjoying your new life! Thank you for sharing it all with us. 💕
You guys were lucky in that you had some time to start the conversion before moving in to the bus. We have been living in ours for 2 years as we have been converting it.
Been watching your bus build since the beginning and maybe a little dreaming about doing the same thing myself. What a gorgeous bus you both have created. Yes, what a challenging time you had starting out, but at the end of the day, your super power and secret weapon is you're still smiling, and you always have each other. Together, you can conquer anything. Whomever said life was not so much the destination, but more about the journey was more profound than any words could describe. Challenges in life define character. It's not the problems, but how you fix them. Thank you for being an inspiration to many of us in both bus building and in life. I think I can speak for most of us watching, we believe in you 100%! You are never alone, and we're with you every step/mile of the way. Happy Trails, and God Speed. Roger
If anything is certain, there will always be something that will show up in a shakedown. You guys absolutely had one. Looks like much smoother from here though. Great Vlog content. Glad to see it.
what I really like about your vlogs is that you show everything that happens, good and bad things. secondly, I myself come from the Netherlands and you display everything in mp / h and km / h, just like the gallons and the liters, so that everyone can follow and understand. keep it up 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great video, thanks for sharing. We've done several cross country trips with our TT. We bring our cat Lewis with us who also walks on a leash, thinks he's a bad ass in his red harness!! One thing I found to help with his riding in his carrier, a product call ThunderEase (made by the same company that makes the Thunder Shirts for dogs), it's a natural phermone that has a calming effect, so we spritz the carrier with about 4 pumps of the spray and let it get absorbed (about 15 min), then put him in and he's comfy and quiet. Anxious to see your next post, our trips have been very planned out with specific destinations and timelines, but our next one we want to do more Harvest Hosts etc and stop when and where we want. Thanks!!
I'm not sure what your laundry plan is, but look into Sudshare. They do laundry pick up and drop off the next day. Good luck. The start felt rocky but you all actually handled it well. Enjoy the journey! Progress, not perfection. 🤩
Hello. Well that was another exciting episode. Ruff start for sure. 2 miles is still 2 miles. I thought the cardboard museum was pretty neat. We are from near St. Louis 👋Happy traveling ❤
The way you said "walk" I immediately said "she's one of ours" you confirmed it by placing the pin for Port Elizabeth and validating that I didn't imagine it.
You should put washer and dryer under bus in one the bays! Or a washer that also dries
2 роки тому+2
You don't know how much i enjoy watching your videos, i think you shouldn't worry so much about making mistakes, it's a new world for you, otherwise it wouldn't be an adventure, at the beginning of the last two videos i was wondering why you were using another vehicle, but i think it was your best decision to have a second vehicle Support to be able to go out quickly, do small shopping and so on. In this first stage of adaptation and testing, I think you should consider having a smaller vehicle or a 4-wheeler and mount it on a small trailer attached to the bus and then you would have a real assistant always available and you could travel together the 4 of you always. Greetings from Belgium and hope to see you next week.
😳 thought we were all gonna need to come round and give you a push for a bit there! 😂 It's always good to be able to look back and laugh at a predicament! Being well prepared and having a go-with-the-flow mindset will definitely help keep unhelpful stress and anxiety at bay. Loved the museum. I suspect you'll find alsorts of hidden and unexpected gems on your travels 😊
Monkeyvaroom Don't feel bad. We took ours on toad trip and its still in the building stage and we broke down and got to the shop to fine out what happen with power steering and over heating. Now we are waiting to get out bus back. Good luck, it happens
Enjoy life and the many things that go well and oh well the world will not end if something goes wrong, because there is a solution for that. It just fits. Greetings from Holland.
Mela you are so beautiful & what lovely people you guys are, thank you for your amazing UA-cam channel, I absolutely LOVE it! You are both doing so well with the very start of this journey, you both take care & looking forward to the next video! 💛
After watching your build, I shudder to think of how much that beast weighs. I saw an entire lumber yard added to the rig. Weight was obviously not on the radar. Better luck on the rest of your adventure.
We are under weight. Thanks for asking. You have to remember we took out tons of metal. The chairs and upper luggage bays were very heavy and the bus is made to carry 57 passengers and all their luggage on top of that. Weight was a consideration and if you actually watch our build videos you will see the ways in which we chose lightweight materials and considered our weight distribution. So yes, once we completed the build and weighed ourselves, we were 3 tons under the limit.
I don't care what you have, a brand new travel trailer, a motor coach, a class B, doesn't matter, there are gonna be little things that happen along the way that need your attention. Complications arose, ensued, were overcome. Words to live by if you're living the road life. Don't leave your tools behind.
yes, when we met the other couple in what looks like a brand new expensive professional van build and heard they were having issues too, we didn't feel so bad. ha ha
No flack folks. You guys have done an amazing job, look what you have achieved. You can cope with these hiccups, good experience for anything that might happen in the future. I had to sort out a few issues with my camper van but it was done after a few times of trouble shooting. I think you are brilliant, I know it’s not easy when things go wrong but try not to stress. You are on a journey so if it takes a little longer to get somewhere it doesn’t matter. Enjoy ❤️❤️
I bet your heads were in the shed with the faults you were having, but she's been parked up so long , it's a stunning build you've done you'll get there my prayers are with from Wales uk x
This lifestyle is challenging with a store bought RV, I cant imagine the amount of extra challenges with a custom built bus. You guys look like you really work together during these difficult days. What we have learned after 2.5 years on the road, how important it is to work together and support each other. When one of us is having a bad day it is important that the other person sees that and does their best to help them get through it. Some days we both are having a bad day, then it is really important to be patient with each other. looks like you guy make a great team. Good luck on the adventure. Larry
Welcome to the world of figuring it out as you go. When I married my wife 25 years ago she had never taken an RV Vacarion and had never taken a vaction trip where you just picked a general direction and explored the sides of the roads as you traveled. I owned a huge Flleetwood Class A then and the first time she went with me she wanted to know my plans. Thinking I had every stop planned to the minute. (How her Daddy the Engineer did it.) I just said pick a direction and we'll see what we can find. Her parents lived in the Chicago area so I elected to visit them. Little did she understand I planned on taking a week to get there from North Texas. As 12 hour drive normally. We left on a Friday and I told her to get us tickets for a Cubs game, but make sure it was late the next week. (A Thursday) We barely made it to the game in time. But she learned to not worry about where the next stop was, just enjoy the views and "little hole in the wall places" we could find along the way.... She learned to look at the Woodalls for attractions and the "primitive at the time" Computer. Me, I'm a fly by the seat of my pants kind of traveler. And the Adventure Starts when I pull out of the Driveway. Not at the Final Destination! Enjoy your trips and remember to keep us in mind when you roll through North Central Texas. The BBQ is on me!
Oh no how awful, I'm so sorry that is happening to y'all. I hope that everything is better now Good Luck and Blessings. The kitties look like they are having fun though lol
I LOVE THE TWO OF YOU SOOOOO MUCH. I AM SOOOOO EXCITED FOR THIS DAY. I HAVE BEEN WITH U SINCE THE BEGINNING. DON T EVEN PAY ANY MIND TO ANYONE WHO IS UNKIND. YOU GUYS HAVE SOOOO MANY PEOPLE WHO LOVE YOU GUYS. ❤ YAAAAAA !!!!! IM SOOOOO HAPPY FOR YOUR BOTH. GOD BLESS YOUR NEW LIFE 🙏
you must have expected a few teething problems, I hope that the fix wasn't a long and expensive one, It doesn't matter if you do 2 miles in a day or 50 miles so long as you enjoy yourselves, But it is so good to see you on the road and not still at the parents place, Best wishes for a trouble free adventure.
Watching you both running into obstacles and overcoming! Your love for eachother is inspiring! You two are amazing!
Not a negative, but driving and maintaining a coach takes a lot of knowledge. I would dedicate some time to understand the potential issues that you might encounter on the road and how to recover. Best of luck on your travels and welcome from Virginia.

What we did was put a 1/2 pex line into our fresh water tank with a valve so we can fill it while connected to the city water.
Good thinking to break down close to home. I would have done far far away! Here's hoping you have a stress free bus life!
I hope so too! But I think some stress is always to be expected from time to time
That is what shakedown is all about.
More stuff will happen.
Don't quit and keep smiling !
I'm so proud of you both! Who ever in their right mind would know that a bus would need over 30 gallons of coolant? Y'all are doing great!!

Thanks!!
We enjoyed getting to know you during your stay. It was fun seeing you explore New Richmond!
Thanks for being an amazing host! We had fun there, I’m glad you enjoyed the video
Great to see you guys on the road. Glad to see you are working out the issues safety. Great start to your adventure.😀
Thanks 👍
I'm not sure what your laundry plan is, but look into Sudshare. They do laundry pick up and drop off the next day. Good luck. The start felt rocky but you all actually handled it well. Enjoy the journey! Progress, not perfection. 🤩
keep your chins up..will be fantastic..lots to learn..be safe and have way toooooo much fun..from victoria beach nova scotia canada..
Thanks Blake
On the road!! Be Safe & Safe Driving & Enjoy!!
Will you be able to hit you car to the bus & pull it?
Yes! Just released the video about towing the car for the first time
Howzit! Awesome ha ha glad you can still hear a little SA accent in my mixed accent I’ve got going on
Wooo hoooo, a few glitches but finally living the dream 😀👍
You should put washer and dryer under bus in one the bays! Or a washer that also dries
Thank you! Today's video shows our car towing story! Absolutely. need something to take us where the bus can't go. Good thinking
😳 thought we were all gonna need to come round and give you a push for a bit there! 😂
It's always good to be able to look back and laugh at a predicament! Being well prepared and having a go-with-the-flow mindset will definitely help keep unhelpful stress and anxiety at bay.
Loved the museum. I suspect you'll find alsorts of hidden and unexpected gems on your travels 😊
I bet we will! Can't wait
The school bus ceiling panels were a awesome idea. The wood added a extra touch will you stain the wood or leave like it is?
Monkeyvaroom
Don't feel bad. We took ours on toad trip and its still in the building stage and we broke down and got to the shop to fine out what happen with power steering and over heating. Now we are waiting to get out bus back.
Good luck, it happens
Thanks Ronald, good to hear we are not alone!
as much hard work you guys have done and the bus is beautiful....you guys got this now enjoy and be safe
Glad you both finally got on the road, I hope it goes well for and you both relax and enjoy bus life, happy travels don and mela
Thanks Jenny!
It is all a learning experience. Most wouldn't have shown the troubles so thank you for that. You guys are awesome. keep traveling!
Thank you
Enjoy life and the many things that go well and oh well the world will not end if something goes wrong, because there is a solution for that. It just fits.
Greetings from Holland.
FYI: you guys are great - building a rig like yours takes gumption - well done
Thanks! 👍
Mela you are so beautiful & what lovely people you guys are, thank you for your amazing UA-cam channel, I absolutely LOVE it!
You are both doing so well with the very start of this journey, you both take care & looking forward to the next video! 💛
Thank you so much!! You are so kind.
Keep Pushing Forward. ( Paul from New Zealand )
Thanks Paul
Lesson learned. When you go on a trip you check if everything is okay. Other than that enjoy the trip.
May you have an amazing journey!
You guys got this! Glad to see ya on the road and shake down will have some surprises. Again yall got this.
I love this! You guys are wonderful and living my dream!
Another thumbs up 😊❤️
I don't care what you have, a brand new travel trailer, a motor coach, a class B, doesn't matter, there are gonna be little things that happen along the way that need your attention.
Enjoy ❤️❤️
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement Carolyn!
I bet your heads were in the shed with the faults you were having, but she's been parked up so long , it's a stunning build you've done you'll get there my prayers are with from Wales uk x
Thanks Philip
Oh my! This was a adorable episode! You two are beautiful!💖💖💖💖
Thank you so much!!
How many buses passed through this but they don’t tell us .. this is real experience thanks … we learn from this too
It's easy to just share the fun parts but real life is not all easy right!
Larry
Thanks Larry
Saw you like hot sauce, you need to tour the Tabasco factory in Avery Island Louisiana. Such a cool tour.
Oooooh!!!
GOD BLESS YOUR NEW LIFE 🙏
Happy travels, even when little problems appear! Have fun! God bless and takes care of you always! I'm so glad to see you guys on the roads! Yeah 🥳😍
Thanks Daisy
No issues man... Keep up the good work 👍👍👍
you must have expected a few teething problems, I hope that the fix wasn't a long and expensive one, It doesn't matter if you do 2 miles in a day or 50 miles so long as you enjoy yourselves, But it is so good to see you on the road and not still at the parents place, Best wishes for a trouble free adventure.
